There's a load of people in here, you're doing pretty well for yourself (approximate) Owner: Why the hell do I need to smile? I get all your money anyway. (Direct quote). Their food is a disgusting, overpriced affair (like the island in general) and is served by a cadre of Jamaican women as sour and unpleasant as their employer. All the island's blue collar folk who work in the Old South area, between Lover's Lane and the Airport, they all hate this place - they just have no choice.

They have a walk up window to order ice cream and I highly recommend doing so! I had the peanut butter pie ice cream and it was delicious! So much so, I wouldn't mind taking a drive out there to have it again. So good! The town has a pathway to walk along the back side of the homes while viewing the ocean, and gorgeous yards of impatience and roses. We even saw a beautiful majestic deer along our walk. If you haven't been out to this area, make sure you throw on walking shoes and explore the area. It's simply beautiful! Enjoy!

They even had dumplings for cheaper than back home which was a random find. Service was efficient as there were quite a few staff working and they weren't very busy, although they weren't particularly friendly. Super sweet! Unfortunately, the phone customer service at Jim's STINKS. The first woman who answered sounded half asleep, insisted they don't have anything but alcohol, and then hung up on me when I mentioned the website says they also have some snack and convenience items! When I called back someone else answered, was equally as rude and sleepy and said "We mostly sell alcohol." I said YES, I know, but I'd like to add some snack items. She got defensive and annoyed when I confused her for the first person (they both sounded asleep so easy to assume they're the same person!), and started insisting delivery was gone for the night. I explained that someone would pickup, that I don't need delivery, and asked why is she being rude in addition to the first person hanging up on me? I asked for her name, to which she replied "why do you need my name?" I was transferred to the first girl who said she had a customer come in and so she hung up on me since delivery is gone for the night anyway. Ummmm. You can't put someone on hold?? Really poor customer service. I was planning on dropping some serious coin to ensure my friends bday weekend in MV was made more enjoyable by my large gift basket. "Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now." I certainly hope "Jim" or whoever owns this place takes a look at who he has working in the evening and answering phones. And in case Jim reads this, I called on Wednesday night Oct 13, 2021. I know good staff is hard to come by these days, but come on. Because on a small island, Cumberland Farms is quite high on the ladder in terms of everything desirable, all behind the grimy door of this well-situated chain store. Get your daily dose of island gossip here, first of all. (They do have some stiff competition in this department with Mocha Mott's around the corner on Main Street and Shirley's Hardware up on State Road.) Lurk around the front door, the side of the building and down near the corner by the post office; you will get all of the up to date news before anyone else. (Note that if you loiter around the side near the fire station, you may get offered some drugs or if it is dark, encounter some whacked out drunks who are not always polite.) Island gossip usually follows the same pathways. It's about people, first and foremost: Who landed in jail last night, who is running for reelection, who caught a big fish, who died. Next- politics and anything related to it. On a small island that means traffic lights, immigration issues, school concerns, the hospital, the Steamship Authority and tourism. If you want local opinions and up to date news stories, hang out here for a bit. As this spot is so close to the ferry, it's often the first or last stop to visit. Coffee, candy, chips, soda and newspapers are hot items. If you like magazines, they have everything- and they are the first place to get People, The National Enquirer and Star Magazine. Once again, Cumby's is the first place on the island to reveal serious dirt, in this case of the Brad and Angelina variety. This is a hard core islander spot, filled with locals of all types. Many of them like to buy their lottery tickets here and by golly, there have been some big winners over the years. Some guys show up every day to play the numbers. You'll get familiar with them if you pick up this habit. Cumby's is open late so the island kids who are out driving around the island looking for something to do generally end up here for some junk food before going home. It is very busy just before closing time and most people at that hour are very drunk or very high- or both. The staff has been here forever and they each have their own distinct style. They are very happy to be working here and treat you with respect and a certain wary tenderness. If you show up a few times and smile, they will appreciate you and smile back, but it takes some time. I'm sure they have dealt with some bizarre situations over the years. Cumby's is really one of the island's greatest spots, given its hours, its location and its ability to attract all kinds of people. Yes, it's grungy, slimy and sells a lot of crappy junk food at prices which will make you recoil, but there's just something so welcoming and funky about this place that I have to review it and have to give it four stars.

Our waiter was very knowledgeable regarding the menu. He steered us away from the baked ziti since he thought the plastic container in which it was served might melt in the microwave. We were able to find seating by the window which offered a tremendous view of downtown Chatham. The ambiance was A+. Bathrooms were being cleaned as we ate so we knew it was clean. We also met up with some other patrons who happened to be from our hometown which only added to the experience. The only downside to our experience was the lighting which was too bright and gave off convenience store vibes. On balance, for value and quality, this is easily one of the best late night restaurants in Chatham.
