I've been a resident of the Kentuckiana region for almost a 1/2 century and this is my first time visiting Cunningham's. In my defense, I think it's because we have so many great local restaurants! Suffice to say, this place will be on my top 10 of places to recommend, especially in the fish category as well as scenic spots for dining ambience. We sat outside on the lower deck overlooking the dock. The only drawback was the intermittent almost nauseating smell of exhaust from idling boats. This was tolerable for us since it was thankfully only occasional and brief. Parking was also a bit of a hassle, but patience will be rewarded. Our party of 4 was seated within 15 minutes of arrival for a Saturday 5 PM dining, which is fast for anywhere in this town for this time slot. We also never felt rushed during our visit, which is also a great compliment considering how busy and popular this place happens to be. Our server was absolutely fantastic. Sorry that I don't recall her name, only that she wore a hat that referred to her dog (Max?). She was able to make great recommendations and also shared some insider tips about the queso dip. Food and drink service was efficient and timely. We ordered the queso dip, fried fish, broiled fish, grilled shrimp, rice, steamed broccoli, onion rings, baked potato, and salads. Consensus was that all of our choices were delicious and prepared very well. We just had such a relaxing dining experience for a quick Saturday outing. We all were in the mood for fish/seafood and they did not let us down! I had the shrimp dinner ($22) it came with about 12 large fried shrimp and two sides. It was very good the shrimp, coleslaw and cocktail sauce all tasted amazing. Everyone else got the fish sandwich entree ($18) and it was massive and so crispy but not greasy which was nice. It has a nice community scene and great bar area. The patio overlooking the river would be nice to enjoy in the spring/summer months. My one take away was it does have some improvements that need made, the women restroom the handicapped stall lock was broken and in turn not usable if anyone may need it. But for food and service it is a top contender for great fish in Louisville! read more

This was our first itme to eat here. We pass it many times as we travel River Road, but never stopped because the parking lot was always full. We were going to go to Captains Quarters, but decided to give Cunningham's one more try. It was late after noon and the lot was not full so the lunch crowd had probably come and gone. We know that they have always had rave reviews about their Cod fish so that was our plan. We walked in and got seated right away and the server came and took our drink orders. We both ordered the Cod sandwich and onion rings as an extra side. The fish was exceptionally large and thick. It had a very nice sweet and flavorful taste. What really made our meal were the onion rings. The crust was so crunchy and the onion very flavorful. It is hard to describe just how good the crunch is. The atmosphere was very good, the service was as well and we can't wait to go back. They have deck seating out back on the creek and when the weather gets better it should be fun to try. read more

Stopped by for a late dinner. Was still able to sit on the patio because it was well lit. Loved being able to sit with a view of the water. I had the fried fish and fried fish combo with coleslaw and onion rings. Everything was delicious, I'd order it again without hesitation. The fried shrimp and the onion rings were the starts of the show though. So good! Server was attentive and kind. I was a little hesitant about ordering the coleslaw but she offered to switch it out for me if I didn't like it, but it was good so it was a non issue. Can't wait to go back. Been coming here for years mostly for the fish n chips which is top notch. Tried the Fried Chicken for the first time tonight and was highly impressed... Very crispy and flavorful, some of the best I have ever had. The coleslaw is also impressively balanced and not watery at all. The green beans were clearly slow simmered and I am guessing the secret ingredient is love. The entire staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and fast. Avoid. Even if you request outdoor seating a week in advance, when you arrive they will try to seat you inside.

The food here is so incredible! The fish sandwich of course is an absolute must. The takeout service is incredible super fast and always pleasant. I really enjoy the atmosphere when picking up our food orders. We eat here pretty regularly. I highly recommend the Queso under Appetizers it is to DIE for!! 10/10 fresh fish! read more

Wanted to like this place, but omg. Parking area was inadequate for today's crowd. Angry girl took out name for first available table, twenty minutes later we were seated at a table so broken it should be repaired or removed. Ordered mild chicken wings, got buffalo wings. Delicious food, drinks, and very busy in the early evening. My party of 4 arrived for dinner around 6:30 pm and this place is packed. People waiting outside that did not make reservations. Once inside the waitstaff is great, personable, and helpful. We all ordered different things and they were delicious. Met some friends here for a get together. They were busy, parking lot full. We were lucky to get seating for us 7. We were waited on promptly for drink and appetizer request. Our waiter was very good, his name was Paul. He just had everything under control. He delivered everyone's drinks and took orders. Everything went great, food delivered in a good time from ordering. Paul took everything we threw at him, made sure all our needs were met and we were happy. The food was great; everyone got what they ordered and food was plentiful for our orders and tasty. I had a side salad which was crisp and upped my order to include onion rings. The dining room and bar were what you come for, nothing fancy but clean and well organized. Definitely coming back. Stopped by for a late lunch while visiting family. The fried chicken dinner is the best I've ever had. Crispy outside and juicy inside - just perfect. Half a chicken, big pieces. Plenty of French fries and delicious coleslaw rounded out a great dinner. Other choices at the table included pan-fried oysters and a large house salad with eggs, bacon and cheese. We had a wonderful lunch yesterday on Memorial Day. There was a bit of a line outside so I was worried we might have a wait, but thankfully we got the last available table outside! There were several open tables inside but I think everyone was wanting to have a view with their meal. This was my first time going and I'm already ready to go back My husband got the fish dinner which came with mashed potatoes and I got a cheeseburge that came with chips and a pickle. We each had a bourbon slushee as well, which were quite tasty! I'm not a seafood person, but the menu had a very nice variety of foods so I think there's something for everyone. I have been told this place has the best fried fish sandwich in all the land, so I had to try it for myself (sorta, since I am not an eater of the bread) but I'll get there. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and was sat immediately inside (the covered patio was full and with the on and off rain I didn't want to risk the actual patio). It took a few moments for my server to come over but to be fair she was preoccupied with another table that was pretty rowdy and I was only 1 in a party of 4. Once she did I ordered the Sangria while I waited and thought it was pretty good. After my joiners arrived it took her a while to come over and greet them even though she walked passed us several times even after cashing out the other table. I ended up ordering the fish platter that was grilled and got a loaded baked potato which was delicious so I can only imagine how good the fish sandwich actually is. I will be honest and say I was really disappointed in the service over all. I was a server for years so I completely understand we all have our days but when you constantly have to flag your server down because they are completely neglecting your table it's just not ok. We had to ask for refills with empty cups/bottles on the table, we needed sides we had ordered with our food that didn't come out initially, and she even brought our checks when we weren't done and were going to order another round which we did. We came here with a lot of my husband's family on a Friday night back in late January. We live all the way down in Elizabethtown, but my father-in-law works at the truck plant, and had several people recommend this place to him. We had a large group and we're seated pretty easily, granted this is probably because of the time of year we came. I would like to try to come back during the summer to sit outside and enjoy the waterfront view. The food was very simple. I got something that was like a burger but on toast. Really nothing to write home about. We were with a little cousin who loves fish (in a "fish are friends not food" way), and he forbade everyone from ordering fish. Maybe in season, and outside in the sunshine, and without the fish police, we have a better experience. Unique place with waterfront dining. Would consider coming back if I'm in the area and it's a nice summer day. read more

We usually get cod, shrimp, slaw, side salad, and split fries and onion rings. Every time we go service and food are consistently great. Depending on the time you go will determine wait time. This, in my opinion, is a sign the food must be worth my wait time. You can order ahead to go tho. read more

I was told the fried fish here was really good. They weren't wrong. The fish dinner was enough for two people. The fish was delicious!! I enjoyed the fries too. I loved the potato salad. It was fairly sweet. We had the cheddar beer bites as our appetizer. I wasn't impressed. You can definitely taste the beer on the outside coating.
