Tonight was my first time at Stoney River. I brought my family here to celebrate my college kids' successes this year. When we went we did not have reservations. When we walked in there were about 4 hostesses standing behind the counter. When we asked if they would be able to seat us they looked us over. The one hostess we were talking to kind of laughed and another hostess walked over to the first one, whispered something in her ear. Then the first one said they couldn't seat us. My daughter asked how long the wait was. The hostess paused and finally said about 30 minutes. We left because the vibe they were giving us was that they didn't want to seat us which I didn't understand. We were well dressed so I couldn't imagine it was our attire, but that was the vibe they were giving us. When we left, I told my kids it must be because we didn't have a reservation. I was trying to the hostesses the benefit of the doubt. My daughter got online and made a reservation for 30 minutes out, as we all decided we really wanted to try Stoney River. We walked back in 5 minutes before our reservation. Now there were about 5 hostesses behind the counter. I could tell from their faces that they recognized us and a couple of them were whispering again. I walked up to the counter and gave them our reservation information and they said ok. While we were eating we saw them walking by the kitchen looking at us again. This was not a look as if they were checking on us. Our server was nice and did a good job. The food and wine were fine but I have to say the experience with the hostesses really ruined the experience that I couldn't even focus on the food. Unfortunately, we won't be back. Wife and I made a reservation for brunch on our anniversary. A bit chilly inside but we happened to be seated next to the fireplace, which wasn't lit but they happily did so upon request. The others around us appreciated it, as well. We were greeted with an anniversary card and complimentary champagne for a toast - a very nice touch. We ordered a mimosa and red sangria from the brunch cocktail menu - $8 each. Wife enjoyed the mimosa and the sangria was a generous pour and very tasty. Then they brought out a basket of fried biscuits with cinnamon butter - outstanding! For our entrees, she had the Lobster Avocado Toast, which came with two large slices topped with avocado, sunny-side up eggs and massive chunks of lobster served with a side of roasted, parmesan crusted tomatoes, and I ordered the Crispy Chicken & Waffle, Nashville Hot style, which also came with thick-cut bacon. Both dishes were magnificent! I cleaned my plate and she could only finish one of the pieces of toast, so we boxed up the other. Finally, we unexpectedly received a large slice of chocolate cake as a complimentary dessert. We were so full we had it boxed up to take with us. The staff really went above and beyond, and the food and beverages were outstanding. All of this for less than $60, plus tip. Could not have been a better experience. We were grateful to have secured a reservation at Stoney River on this busy Saturday night. The interior is much more modern, esthetically pleasing than their yellow sign indicates, lol. It is definitely a "nicer/upscale" place for dinner. We weren't hungry enough to spend $$$ on their steaks so I chose the delicious sounding meatloaf; hubby chose their signature Steak and Biscuits. While hubby raved about the steak and biscuits; I was not impressed with the meatloaf: too much, too salty. BUT!! I am not mad about the carrot cake we carried home!! I'm so glad I convinced myself to order this massive thing. This $16 dessert is really for two people! It is dense, moist, lightly spiced, not-too-sweet and with perfectly balanced cream cheese icing. Bravo! It took us two tries to finish this at home. It is the *best* carrot cake in the city. Calling this the Last Supper of the Three Musketeers. My son loves Stoney River so I made reservations before he leaves for the Army on Tuesday. I want to thank the Staff for being so kind and making this dinner extra special. From the card on the table him to staff coming up thanking him for his service it made my heart ache with pride. A fellow soldier actually came up and talked to him at the table and shared his positive experience being in the military so THANK YOU FROM THIS MOMMA'S . It was bittersweet. The food was fabulous. We ordered shrimp cocktail and the spinach artichoke dip which honestly was the best I've ever had. It was creamy and the flavors were well blended. Fantastic. I didn't order steak for once. I ordered Tuscan Chickenwith garlic mash and steamed broccoli. It was divine. Tender pieces of chicken with sun-dried tomatoes in a silky cream sauce. Chef's kiss. Dinner ended with a special surprise piece of chocolate cake and key lime pie. It was grand. Also thanks to the staff who called and brought out my debit card. This might be my favorite restaurant in Louisville, chain or not. Every time I go I have a great experience. Last night was no exception. Whiskey Shrimp might be the best appetizer in town. Had an amazing time with my family at Stoney River! We had amazing service while dining there the other night. I also love the ambiance inside because it isn't too loud and it is dark but not too dark. Safe to say, the food and drinks were awesome as well. We had an absolutely fantastic experience tonight! The food was absolutely delicious, and the bread they bring out is just as tasty. We started with the stack, which had a wonderful avocado and tuna filling. The ambiance was so nice--relaxing and romantic, with just the right amount of background noise for a pleasant conversation. We also had some dessert, and I had to try the carrot cake, but I took it to go. The asparagus was amazing, especially when you add a little lime--it really made it shine! If you're thinking of trying them out, I highly recommend stopping by and having some delicious food. I hope your service is as good as ours was. They definitely keep your drinks full! I was super thirsty that night, and the server kept it topped off. I'm a big fan of refills, and I was pleasantly surprised. I'll definitely be back to try some other things on the menu. The crème brûlée could use a little help--it was a bit gummy, and there was too much sugar around the plate. My husband's ribeye was perfect and my granddaughter's lamb chops were ideal but unfortunately I ordered filet medallions with lump crab. I have no idea what the medallions were. Perhaps filet of round steak. They were inedible. It cost us 285 and I tipped 70 bucks. It was not the server's fault. The service was fabulous. As two proud foodies who enjoy fine dining, my wife and I were surprised we'd never visited this place. After our dinner we wished it was a restaurant that was already in our rotation, but it is now! Better late than sorry. We were welcomed by low lights, voices, and a romantic atmosphere. This place is the perfect place for a romantic dinner. It's casual fine dining, so it's high quality, but not too stuffy. If you're familiar with J. Alexander's, it's a better version of there.It has a great price point and the service was second to none. The wait wasn't long, and our service was amazing. The food was amazing! Definitely try the burger, it is definitely in my top 3 in Louisville. If you're a bread lover you'll want to take the rolls home, there that good. We arrived 15 minutes early with another couple for our wedding anniversary and we're seated a little sooner than reservation. My apologies for not taking pictures of the main courses. They were beautiful. Jeremiah and Caitlyn were our stylish, cordial and professional servers. Wife and I ordered a New England Lobster Bisque which had a modest amount of lobster and Sherry wine. Our friends ordered a crab cake which came with a mango, tomato and bell pepper relish. Both were divine. Wife and I shared a 16 oz prime rib prepared medium and agreed it was possibly the BEST prime rib we ever had. We shared some garlic mashed potatoes and heirloom carrots. Our friends ordered a Cowboy cut ribeye which has bone-in prepared medium with broccoli and mushrooms. We all thoroughly enjoyed our selections. We spoke with Cole Henry, General Manager. He is running a tight ship with the service and food second to none. We finished with carrot cake and 4 layer chocolate cake which were delicious and each big enough for 4 people. We checked in early for our reservation and after 25 minutes had to check again. We were told that the young lady hadn't checked us in actually so had to wait another 15 minutes to be seated. Despite this inconvenience, we were greeted by Ashley B once we were seated . She was pleasant and polite and got our order correctly. I wanted the lamb but the price for the portion size wasn't sitting right with me. I ordered the steak with potatoes. We also shared deviled eggs. Everything was great and prepared as requested. We had a reservation for 2:30 and i didn't even get my food until 3:40. Our waiter wasn't rude but he wasn't very attentive either, he came over and we were trying to tell him what we wanted to drink and he said im just gonna get yall water and walked away, then didn't come back for another 20-30 minutes to get out order. They messed up my salmon so they had to restart my order and it took an additional 20 minutes. When my food came the salmon wasn't seasoned basically at all and the asparagus wasn't either. My steak medallions were way over done. This is the third or fourth time my steak has been over done at this place. Husband 's NY strip steak was great but he also ordered a baked potato. When they delivered his steak, they told him they had no baked potato ready and it would be TWENTY minutes before it would be ready! This is a high end steakhouse!!!!!!!!! How does they NOT have a baked potato? He got the truffle fries which were cold and underdone. Super lame. read more

Don't let the reviews fool you! I was a little concerned with some of the negative reviews. Granted, some people may have had genuinely poor experiences for whatever reason, but that was not our experience. I ordered the ribeye, and it was genuinely the best ribeye I've ever had. Better than Ruth's Chris, better than any other I've had. Our service was great, and I can't think of anything negative about our experience. I do not think 3.9 stars is an accurate representation of this establishment. read more

We got a reservation for our anniversary. Five years. The whole experience start to finish was not good. It was borderline a humiliation ritual. They tried to sit us in a booth by the bar area so we asked to move. They obliged but acted super strange toward us since that moment. We weren't rude but it felts like the whole night they held it against us. When asked which dressing I wanted for my salad, I asked for balsamic vinaigrette. Confused, the server asked what balsamic was. She asked if it was balsamic vinegar and oil I told her I think so. To be honest, I don't know. I was also confused why she was asking me that instead of saying "no we dont have that". It's just a dressing most restaurants have so I just picked one off the top of my head. The server brought out a bottle of oil and a bottle of vinegar. I was so confused why bottles from the kitchen would be brought to my table and put on a plate. I said "this wasn't what I had in mind, what other dressings do you have?" I was not dead-set on balsamic, genuinely I didn't care what dressing it was going to be. It made me feel embarrassed and weird she would place bottles from the kitchen onto our table. When our second course came, the food was fine, temperature was fine. Nothing spectacular. The shoe-in was the close of the night. Last year, they gave us free champagne and cake, because it was our anniversary. Course not this year. At the end of the dinner, the check came and they overcharged by $8 for our salads. We sent the check back. This whole thing is just silly at this point. She didn't ask if we wanted dessert until after we disputed the bill. I'm disappointed. I was really looking forward to this dinner. This was a big anniversary for us and we felt like this part of our celebration fell flat. read more

Stoney River is one of those places I keep wanting to try, but it just never comes up as a destination point. So when my wife was out of town, I decided to go and try them out. One nice thing about Stoney River is they have plenty of parking. I do get frustrated trying to dine down town due to the lack of parking or the price of parking. Anyway, I headed down, found a parking place and walked in. The first thing I noticed besides the very nice decor, it was a little dark. No big issues, it took my eyes only few seconds to adjust. Knowing they were booked solid for the evening and since I was a party of one, I cleared it with the hostesses before I found a nice place at the bar. It only took a second for a very nice bartender to approach me and ask me if I was dining at the bar and what would I would like to drink. I told her that it was my first time dining at Stony River and yes I would be eating at the bar. She gave me a few minutes to peruse the drink menu. My eyes landed on the Jackson Old Fashion, so I placed my drink order which gave me time to make my entree decision. Mean while, I was presented with a bowl of popcorn and fresh bread with butter. Both the popcorn and bread were most excellent. Seeing they offered French Onion Soup and Prime Rib, which are several of of my favorite things to order, I informed my most attentive bartender as to my decision.. My drink arrived and it was very tasty. So tasty I ordered another. My soup arrived and it was as good as I was hopping for. With perfect timing, after I finished my soup, my steak arrived. It was cooked to perfection and had a great taste. Now the only fault I can find with my meal, if you can even call it a fault since I ordered it, was the creamy horseradish provided. It was a little on the low end on horseradish taste for me. It was good, but I like a little more kick. They offer a "raw" horseradish option. I will be ordering that the next time. To make the meal even better, serveral of my friends arrived at the bar, a most pleasant unplanned rendezvous. Having friends to talk to made the evening even better. To sum it up, I am now a big fan of stoney River, I have added them to my restaurant rotation. I am just upset that I waited so long to try Stoney River. read more

They are showing a few signs of greedy venture capital influences. The cocktail napkins are super cheap. Not the subtle nice touch you should see and they used to have. Menu breadth has shrunk a little etc... I like the place but if I owned it I would not cheapen the guest experience and that is creeping in. read more

Stoney River had always seemed like a very popular place. I've seen teens waiting to dine here before prom and lots of families standing outside. The parking lot around it always seems busy too. Finally came in and they were slammed! Apparently, between Christmas and New Years is the busiest time of the year (probably for every restaurant). So many families dining in! We did have a reservation but we waited probably 10-15min for our table. It was 7:45pm but it seemed that every table was filled. There were open spots at the bar though. Tbh I thought the inside would look a bit more lodge ish. Instead, it's very modern inside with a cozy feel. They have fireplaces and the lighting fixtures looked nice. People do dress up here but not fancy, probably business casual. We ordered drinks. No idea the names but they were all pretty to look at and delicious. They also give fried biscuits as the complimentary app. It was something in between a biscuit and a donut. Still pretty dense though. Eating one was enough for me. We all ordered the burger. I'm not a huge steak person. We all ordered it to be cooked medium. It was already cut in half which was perfect! And it came with a bunch of shoestring fries. Garlic parmesan. Yum! The atmosphere was nice. Very chill but kinda loud. I saw a lot of people order the chocolate cake. Maybe a ton of folks have end of the year bdays. It looked like a large slice! This was absolutely the worse experience I've had with a restaurant in years! We traveled all the way from Nashville, TN to Louisville, Ky to celebrate my sister in law's birthday. The food I ordered was completely wrong. It took them a while to correct it and when it was time pay for our food the employee begins to say they can only split the check in 4 ways take in mind we had six total people. They begin to explain to us that since it's busy we can only split the check 4 ways. This was totally new news to me and asked to speak to the manager. The manager comes up and explains to us that employees at the front should have told us which they did not. I informed her that since no one told us how can we make this right because it's not our fault that no one told us on top of that everyone that's eating together for my sister in laws birthday dinner may not know each other. So please RIDDLE ME THIS BATMAN! WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD SAY "ITS OK USE MY CARD AND JUST PAY ME BACK" like what if we were strangers. So after speaking with the manager and explaining all of this and waiting for additional 15 minutes for a response. The waiter comes back and gives everyone their individual checks the way it should've been in the beginning. The waiter never checked on my drink. I was thirsty the entire time. If we was upset about not getting a tip, he can now have a reason. It's sad because I tip very well and this restaurant and waiter lost out on a big tip. Please next time communicate that on a busy night you can only do 4 split checks up front, please get orders right(I repeated my order several times to confirm). We won't be back William was our servers name. He seemed to have an attitude because we kept telling him to correct our orders that HE got wrong! Like come on! That's ludacris. But wait there's more! As we were going to the rest we heard William talking about us and I guess one of his little buddies was mad because of the lack of tips we gave so he decided to try to stare me down like my tip was going to change. Absolutely not. The service was horrible and we knew what they were saying. They totally missed out on some great tips. My family doesn't tip for poor service and poor management. Made reservations on Resy, but it looked like you could make reservations on their website as well If you don't have the Resy app. The larger sized filet was 10 oz, which they do not note on the menu. It's only $4 more than the smaller choice filet which I think was 7 oz. Daughter and I shared the perfectly "medium" cooked piece of beef and still had a nice little chunk to take home. The FRENCH ONION SOUP was OMG and only $10. The spinach dip with "worth it" tortilla chips were amazing. Hubby liked his Rib eye steak. We had a lemon cheesecake (shared) for dessert. Rates at the top of incredible places for a celebratory occasion. The inside feels intimate but not isolated. We had reservations for two for a birthday dinner. They had a birthday card on the table waiting for us. Jomal took incredible care of us with his genuine interest in seeing we had a good experience. The price point is under Ruth's Chris or Morton's but the quality and quantity give them some serious competition. For one, the delightful complimentary bread reminded me of donut holes and were yummy. I highly recommend the whiskey shrimp toast. Awesome and memorable. The chefs offering was filet medallions with more of the whiskey shrimp. Heaven!!! Stoney River was just ok, the atmosphere was nice, the main service was good, we had 10 people for a birthday get together, a drink was spilled, not one person came to clean it up, but we ask for new towels and they took 4 wet ones away, didn't bother coming back an clean up the drink the rest of the way, salt shaker was stopped up and believe me we needed it, my center cut filet, was tough for a filet, the broccoli was hard and not seasoned, the wedge salad was an entire head of lettuce with hardly and blue cheese dressing, my wife had the Steak Frites with sauce béarnaise and Parmesan fries, the steak was ok, hardly any sauce she took two bites and was done, cold fries with no seasoning and had a sprinkle of Parmesan, my son in law had the French dip, he said no flavor tried the get salt out, my daughter had Bistro chicken, she said she wouldn't come back, I ask the others they said theirs were good, so at least someone liked it, probably a top 50 steak house read more

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US!! We tried to get into this restaurant by walking in last year. They only take reservations so we were stoked to try this place and celebrate our 24th anniversary. Our server, Zee, was just spectacular. She was very attentive, gave us suggestions and made our evening very special. All of the staff made it a point to stop by and wish us a happy anniversary. Enough of that, let's get down to the drinks and food. I started with a Winter is Coming (diehard GoT fan so why not?!) and the love of my life had the Lemon Drop Mojito. For entrees I had filet medallions topped with jumbo shrimp with a side of roasted multi-colored beets. The hubby had Bistro Chicken with risotto and spinach.
