I grew up in Prospect and I remember going to Bus Parsons' as a kid. I was young, but if my memory serves me correctly, Bus Parsons' was frequented by a lot of guys on motorcycles and they had decent burgers. I think the spot probably has a long history, but it's currently Cunningham's Creekside. My dad is fried fish fanatic. Not just during lent, but everyday, all day, all year long. When we decided to meet up for dinner tonight, nobody was surprised that he wanted fish and chips. It might not be the first place we'd normally think of, but it's Saturday, we didn't have reservations, and we thought we had better odds of getting a table fast at Cunningham's. Cunningham's is a cool spot. It's on Harrod's Creek and you can pull your boat right up, dock it, and grab a bite. No need for boat of course, they have ample parking too. It's a bar that offers patio seating when the weather permits. It's got plenty of televisions to catch the game. It also has soups, salads, and grilled options if, like me, you're trying compromise with someone who always wants all the fried things. I ordered salmon tonight. It was served on rice and it came with two sides. I got side salad and a baked potato. The food came out quick, so I scraped what was left of my salad onto my plate. I'll include a picture, but that might be important to keep in mind. I had a Blue Moon draft beer too. Dinner was delicious and not too heavy. I appreciate that I can go to this same spot my dad took me when I was a kid, he can have his fried fish, and I can find something at a bar that's a bit less bar food-ish. The sign in front of the building has changed. The entire interior is different. We've added a lot of chairs around our table too. But the nostalgia of grabbing a bite off River Road creekside with Dad is the same as it's always been. read more

After a bad fish experience, down the road. I decided to drop into Cunningham's Creekside to see if I couldn't get a little fried fish redemption! I ordered the fish platter with onion rings and steak fries. The Young waitress was very friendly and the food arrived promptly. The fried fish and rings were golden brown not pale and void of color. The fries thick yet crispy. Wife got the fish and slaw both very good. Check was picked up quickly and we were thanked as we left... perfect experience. This is a really nice place to grab something to eat while enjoying some great views along the water. The weather was nice so we chose to eat outside. We had to go down a flight of steps before we made it to our table. You can watch boats come in while you are dinning. We ordered 2 cod sandwiches with a order of onion rings. For an appetizer we ordered some cheese curds that were very good. The sandwiches were huge and very good. You get a pickle and some potato chips too! The fish was crunchy and tender juicy inside. The onion rings seemed freshly made as the breading easily fell off while eating them. Very good! Even the pickle was good! They have a bar inside. We saw many margarita's going by as we sat. Ate at cunningham's creekside for dinner. It WAS my family's go to restaurant. They ended up towing my car. They have signs saying parking for paying customers only but yet towed their paying customers car. When I called they said they have signs but again the signs state paying customers parking only and do not have a time limit for how long you can park there. When I called Dave's towing this morning they want $200 when the signs at Cunninghams say $138. I will no longer be recommending this restaurant to anyone. read more

Being a beautiful Tuesday night, my wife and I decided to head out and enjoy dining on the water. This particular Tuesday we selected Cunningham's Creekside. We did not expect the crowd that was there on a Tuesday night. I guess everyone else had the same idea that we had ... We found a parking place, walked up to the receptionist and after a few minutes debating, we decided to wait the 30min for an outside seat rather than set immediately inside. In less than 30 min we were seated on the deck... Our waitress was very nice and helpful.. we ordered drinks and perused the menu which contained lots of seafood options.. perfect since I love seafood... I ordered the fish and shrimp grilled with baked potato and coleslaw, my wife had the fried fish dinner... First thing I noticed when our food came was the size of the fish portions. More than enough for a hungry person... The Fish had a great taste and was cooked perfectly... My wife stated her's was just as good... We ate as much as we could and asked for to-go boxes... Finished our drinks and headed out to the car... where there were multiple cars looking for a place to park... We let some lucky people have our parking space and headed home... All in all a very enjoyable evening and one I hope to repeat at Cunningham's read more

It seems to me at this place that buying appetizers inside separately are better price and better deal than buying meals. First, we bought the chicken strips. They were very mediocre not very good. We had a few pieces of gristle and they didn't have much in the way of seasoning. The ranch dressing was pretty good but they were just very Food service and generic. The fish fingers were better and for.$10.25 for four pieces not a terrible value again I would've liked a little more seasoning to it, but the fish flesh was nice and they have Heinz ketchup We also got the beer, battered cheese, puff things. They were pretty good. The marinara had a nice flavor, but it was a little too chunky and we could've used a bigger cup so we could've got more dip on the cheese sticks. She also got a salad, which was OK, but she said it would've done much better with some croutons. She said the blue cheese dressing was OK with the salad. I added mac & cheese and it doesn't have any big chunks of cheese or is not baked on, but it is a decent cheese sauce and I tasted what I think was pepper mixed in or some sort of red pepper is kind of different, they do have Coke products here and I was glad that they were only $2.50 i'm getting sick of drinks that are three dollars or more. The waiter was pretty fast on target although he was a little condescending to her. They offer outdoor seating which we would never do in 1 million years. I don't want bugs and wind or anything like that, but it is available if you want it standard bar and grill style sports on the TVs. I said I think the dinners are bit overpriced, but you can piece together combos or or appetizers and get by. read more

The service is always excellent at Cunningham's. My wife and both had the broiled white fish dinner with slaw. We get this most every visit because it is so good. The patio is a fun spot to watch the boat traffic go up and down the canal in the evening. The fried cod is a favorite of many as well. read more

My husband and I have passed this place numerous times and kept talking about stopping to try this place out but we never did. Until today. And so glad we did. We now have another go-to spot on the list. My apologies for not taking pictures. I got distracted when the food came and simply forgot. My husband got the Grilled Whitefish Sandwich with steamed broccoli for the side. I ordered the Grilled Whitefish Combo with Fried Oysters. I love oysters but I've rarely had an opportunity to have it since living in Kentucky. And when I have had it, it wasn't all that great. Well today, it was on point! My husband and I both were very pleased with our orders. We also ordered two glasses of wine which was perfect with our meal. We were seated outdoor. The breeze felt perfect. And our server was great! She showed up and greeted us with the best of energy! Overall great experience and we will be back! There are several other menu items we want to try! The best thing about the place is being able to get there by boat and have a creekside experience. It is busy, crowded, the staff are brusque, and the food is ok. But the overall experience is greater than the sum of it's parts because of the water-side atmosphere and the charming company I was keeping. The cocktail I got was forgettable, but I finished it before switching over to diet coke. Our group shared some oysters which....were not good. Even fried, they tasted not right and I don't think we finished them. I got one of the sandwiches based on a recommendation from one of my dining companions, the ruben. It was good enough and I finished it. The food itself wasn't much to write home about. Again...it is all about the location, the time you are there, and the people you are with. So, I can say with near certainty that I will come back eventually. I won't go out of my way to do so, but I won't put up a fight when it is suggested again. I will find something to fill my stomach and enjoy the meal. read more

This is exactly what I want this restaurant to be. It's in a great location, has fair prices, and has solid food. It's at a sweet spot for all three--you might be able to find a better value or better food, but not a better combination of traits. I always enjoy the Grilled Chicken Dinner or the Grilled Salmon; the Chicken Tender starter is solid as well. The burger is fresh, and the onion rings are large and well-breaded. They have changed the breading on the fish sandwich, and now it's like any other fish sandwich only at a higher price. Oh, how I wish, this was so much better. A beautiful sunny day, last week, we made a drive to do curbside and take to the riverfront park. Our order consisted of 2 grilled fish sandwiches and one onion ring. We placed the order, only a few minutes from the restaurant. As we arrived, a waiter asked us our name and car description on our order. He and one other guy were bringing orders to the cars. They asked us our name 3 more times while we waited. We figured the grilled fish threw them off. No problem. We could hear them talking to other cars, telling them, they had no staff as everyone opted to draw unemployment rather than work. It was apparent many were regulars...they would tell them to pull their vehicles up by door. There again, I presumed their orders had been called in way before ours. So we waited. And waited. They appeared to be checking on our order. Our $36 order arrived. We paid in a haste, no receipt on our credit card but ok, we understand the hectic curbside makes things awkward. We drove, 3 minutes, to our parking spot in the river, opened the food. It was all there. That's the best news I have. The onion rings were edible but cold...not lukewarm....cold. The grilled fish was so overdone, it actually curled up on the ends. And COLD....not room temp...cold!! And sooo tough from overcook, you could not even bite thru the underside. Like shoe leather. And cold. So much for this experience. Too many good curbside available. Plenty downtown eateries for fish sandwiches. We're eating out, 5 out of 7 days a week, and trying, very hard, to frequent the small business. Hoping you have a better experience. read more

Our mother's day dinner consisted of my mom's choice of takeout...so Cunningham's Creekside was her choice. It's a cute little restaurant with a beautiful location right by the boats and river. Our initial plan was to bring chairs and hang out in the parking lot (within distance.) Sadly we were told no, but the employee who came out to tell us was very friendly and even offered to show us an offsite location to go to. If you dig seafood, you will dig this place. They pretty much have everything on the menu. I ordered the fish dinner, and it was great. It was SOO huge though...I could hardly finish one piece! We all ordered something different, and everything just looked so good, even if it was in a takeout box. I am already looking forward to coming back here once the covid craziness is over. Longtime Louisville residents/family of mine suggested the Hubs and I try Cunningham's after they went for dinner recently. We love eating in or near the water and particularly love seafood so it was an easy sell. In addition to being easily persuaded, we had become disenchanted with Captain's Quarters since COVID - their menu was drastically reduced and what was left was not what we liked. Anyway, Cunningham's was ready for us tonight and we loved it! Hubs got the Cunningham burger and fries. He was very pleased- the fries were especially fantastic! I got the fish sandwich with a salad. The fish was great and the homemade tarter was good- I'm very picky about tarter! The best part though was the homemade blue cheese dressing on the salad! OH! Had some fantastic fried chicken here. Half chicken, breaded and crispy. Side of mashed potatoes with brown gravy. A salad with homemade blue cheese dressing. All were very good. We sat in the screened in porch with a nice view of Harrods Creek. Will definitely return when I have a craving for fried chicken and it is available. It is seasonal. I know they don't have the best overall rating but this is one of those Louisville staples. It's been around for a while! I remember when they were located in 4th street, but I had never gone to try it. I finally did and I was impressed! It's a sports bar with tons of older people sitting around and enjoying food. Lots of men come and sit at the bar, chat, and watch the games. They've got a ton of TVs on, so pick an angle to sit at so you can get a great view. I came on a really cold, Friday evening around 7 and there was a wait. There were two groups of two-three waiting before us. The hostess said it would be a 20 minute wait but that didn't seem long so we stayed. They went above and beyond my expectations! We waited but 5 minutes and got seated in a back room. There were a lot of people here! So many older folks though. Like grannies meeting for wine and such, couples quietly eating. It cracked me up! My family and I were probably the youngest there. The waiter seemed busy but he came and fixed our uneven table and took drink orders. Note, they brew their own sweet tea! Definitely a selling point and one of the best sweet teas I've had in town! You could taste that it was fresh. It was absolutely amazing! Anyway, I ordered the fried cod sandwich, which was cod laid on toast. I got it on rye and had ruffles chips as a side. The two cod pieces were huge! Not a bad price either. So so good! I think the meal was around 9$? My sister got the grilled white fish sandwich on rye with chips as well. She enjoyed it but wished it was piping hot. I don't think she was as impressed. Again, the fish portion was generous! My mom got the trio platter which came with fried oysters, grilled shrimp, and two pieces of cod, one Cajun and one normal seasoning. It came with rice and a roll, then she chose green beans as a side. It was a lot! She couldn't finish it at all! She enjoyed it too and thought the meal was reasonably priced. The green beans were the best thing ever and the roll was so soft! It came with a salad that you could tell was fresh. My dad got grilled salmon with baked potato and rice. He thought the rice was a little too buttery but he is always particular. He liked it as well. His meal also came with a salad. This is definitely a place to go if you want some good seafood for a good price. The portions are huge and filling. It's a hidden gem in this city! When we left close to 8, it was getting empty. This area of town may explain that because there are a lot of older people nearby who eat dinner early. Also, it was really cold outside so I'm not sure if it was typical for then to not be that busy. Anyway, our server was really awesome and just super attentive. He did a great job of checking up on us and giving suggestions. He was really honest about the menu and the way that food tasted or was cooked. I'd come back anytime! read more

My husband was working out near this location and grabbed us 2 fish sandwiches with rye bread today. Same recipe and delish fish I remember from the old Fifth street restaurant. Absolutely fresh and delicious. Homemade tarter sauce too- I forgot what a gem this place truly is and we will be back. Generous fish fillet as big as my hand - it's really big LOL. We're trying to get in as much patio dining as possible during this great weather. This was our first meal at Cunningham's. I seem to remember eating at the old Cunningham's Creek Side with my dad when I was a kid. Recently we seem to be on a roll getting great service. Today continued the trend with our server Hillary. Not only did Hillary deliver great service, our food was pretty good too with a couple small exceptions. My wife had the fish and shrimp combo ($16.50) with fries and salad as her sides. She loved the fish and shrimp commenting the fish was the best she's had in a long time. She ordered her fries well done and crispy. The fries arrived at the table perfect! However, her side salad had brown lettuce and some of the lettuce had also been frozen. She picked through her salad avoiding the unappetizing pieces of lettuce. I had the Trio Platter ($20.50 with onion rings) consisting of whitefish, fried shrimp and pan fried oysters. My sides were onion rings and a salad. I also loved the fried fish and shrimp. They were delicious. The oysters were small and over done to the point of being hard and dry. Not good.The onion rings were great. Unfortunately I had the exact same experience as my wife with the salad. I pushed several pieces of lettuce to the side of my plate. The silver lining to the salad situation was we both had Blue Cheese dressing, and we both loved it. read more

I wrote a review back in September 2023 because the service was non-existent. In the last month we have gone back 3 times to see if things improved or to see if they are worse. I am glad to say that the service has been very good. The food is still great. The first time we returned the server was at our table almost as soon as we sat down. He said that he recognized us but had not seen us in a while. I explained our situation and he mad sure that everything was right and apologized for the past. We enjoyed our meal and have since returned to make sure it wasn't a one time thing. As always in the past our food was very good and we were served quickly. I will be sure to pass on the good news to all of our friends that were shocked at the prior experience. Cunningham's is back on our list of "go to places" when we need a place to eat. We started ordering curbside service when Covid first hit last year and when places started opening again we still order curbside or dine in. The food is always exceptional. The wedge salad is fresh, bacon is crunchy, yummy blue cheese crumbles, and tomatoes. We also get the salmon and the grilled shrimp entrees. Fish is always fresh, litely seasoned, rice was warm, baked potato always comes out hot and never dried out. Our server Diana was such a joy. She's polite, even with a mask you can tell she is smiling, she managed 5 tables at a time and she rocked it!! We will always come back because of Diana's wonderful service and she also has great eyebrows. read more

Brought the family here yesterday for lunch and man it didn't disappoint. It was our first visit and we will definitely be coming back. The fish dinner is big enough for 2! I'm a tartar snob and they had decent tartar. Service is great on top of it. My 3 kids enjoyed their kids meal. Definitely will be back. A perfect day, sunny, warm Friday before a 3 day weekend, to sit waterside and enjoy an after work drink with Beer Cheese Bites and some Seafood! The weather, atmosphere, service and food were all nearly perfect. The drinks came out fast and we ordered appetizer of Beer Cheese Bites (very good curds of fried cheese with tasty marinara) followed by a Fish Sandwich for my wife and a Fried Trio Platter of Fish, Oysters and Shrimp for me. The food was well portioned pieces of Cod, the oysters were very good but the shrimp was just "so-so," lacking flavor. I have waited a while to post my review of Cunningham's because i didn't want to write this based on emotions. I was one of a group of six (five adults & one child) and we were seated on the patio. Not long after we were seated our server (who was wearing proper face covering) came to take our drink orders. He was quite charming and funny; lots of joking around while going about the business of answering questions and making recommendations. We got our drinks and queso quickly and dinner orders were taken; again with a pleasant demeanor while answering more questions. While we worked on the queso and chatted with each other, I noticed that people who had been seated after us were receiving their food and we were still waiting for ours. When another table not only received their food before us, but finished and paid their check, one of the guys at our table asked our server about our food. The answer we received (without proper face covering and in a not-so-pleasant tone) was, "There was a large party that came in after you," before he walked off. Yeah, that made sense...not!! Three in our group were former servers and were of the opinion that the order wasn't put in. Stuff happens, I get that, but either own your mistake or keep quiet. Most of us ordered fries, and when we finally did get our food, we only got three or four containers of ketchup. Someone asked if we could get more, and he returned with two bottles and set them down rather firmly (without proper face covering). I was sitting next to the railing, farthest from the server, and when he brought the checks he didn't include a pen. No biggie. I was opening my purse to get one out, and he tossed a pen on the table in front of me. So rude!! I don't have any complaints about the food, but I'm not sure I want to return to Cunningham's based on the behavior & attitude of this server.
