    Piggy Bop and B Bop
    Teresa H.

We ordered a piggy bop and a B bop. It was pretty good, but not great. The Piggy Bop was heavily sauced (too much) I felt like it needed more cabbage. Rice was overcooked. Big portions though. Service was fine. We ate there but it seemed to more of a take out place. Not sure if I would try again.

I tried Cupbob for the first time and ordered the combo bop (2 protein and veggies). Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. The flavors were bland, very less quantity of proteins and the ingredients seemed underwhelming. It was an okay experience but not something I'd rush to have again On the positive side, the service was friendly and the place was clean. Maybe I'll give another item a try in the future, but for now, the combo just didn't impress me.

    Korean chicken

Me and my mom decided to try this place out after spotting it during a Starbucks run. Going in for the first time can feel rather intense as there is plenty of options. Every bowl includes cabbage, rice noodles, and white rice inside it. You get to pick your entree for the bowl. I kept mine simple this time by just picking some chicken. After the bowl is made you then pick a sauce to go on top of it. The sauces range on a 1-10 scale. 1 being sweet and 10 being spicy. Not knowing what to expect I just picked a 3. My meal also came with 3 gyoza (or potstickers). The meal was very yummy! I'd say it filled me up quite well also, despite looking smaller. The sauce was not spicy and stayed on the sweeter end (almost teriyaki like). The gyoza was also tasty! Especially with the dipping sauce. My two year old even devoured her noodles - yes, they offer kids bowls! They also include the cabbage, rice noodles, and white rice. But you can exclude any of it. Overall I would definitely return here. I think I would try a level 5 on sauce next time and see if I could get more noodles versus rice.

The first time I tried it with the miso soup base and the second time, I got the tom yum spicy soup base. The miso was very light and almost bland, to be honest. I didn't love it. The tom yum spicy, which was recommended by the staff, had more flavor. It was much better. However, I tried my husband's sichuan spicy and liked that more. If and when we return, I will definitely get the sichuan spicy base. The seafood mini hot pot for one at $25.95 has plenty of seafood in it. There's a crab leg, mussels, clams, calamari, and more. I have yet to finish an entire hot pot in one sitting. The restaurant has a large dining room and offers plenty of seating. Service was fast and friendly at both visits.

The hot pot is flavorful, delicious, and fulfilling. I went home with a second meal because the portions are so good. I also recommend the basil popcorn chicken, they do a really good job of seasoning not on the chicken but the breading as well. Do not skip over this local gem!

The two of us ordered two mini hot pots but fair warning, I think one mini hot pot is enough for two people, especially if you order some sides. We ordered siu mai (frozen) and their house-made spicy wontons. For the hot pot, we got one with a sha cha based and the other with the house spice blend. I really liked the House Spice Blend. Not a bad hot pot spot but I'm not sure I would be back given that there are other great places nearby that makes a good hot pot. Service here was attentive but sparse. The day we came, it seemed like there was only one server. I saw four people walk away after not being seated. I wish this place much success.

A party in our group has a dairy allergy, so we did have to go back and forth with the server to confirm what can and cannot be eaten. It took a bit of time but the server was patient. Some things were good and some weren't. The mini hotpot was good. I got the mushroom broth and chose the chuck eye roll for the meat. It's a good enough of food and my husband and I ended up sharing it. We also liked the spicy cucumber salad. The spicy pork and shrimp dumplings were disappointing. I know I can't compare it to din tai fung but these were hard and undercooked. The pork and chive dumplings were pretty tasty. We got to try a pan fried bao and it was decent but not worth getting IMO. Our friend got the kimchi fried rice and said it was good. Portion is generous. It's hit or miss.

Apps were the Chinese long beans which very good and the avocado ragoon. They were crispy and tasty. The inside was a golden yellow which seemed a bit confusing for avocado but it still tasted great. Let me start with a little tid bit about Downtown Gilbert. There is nothing really special about it…read moreoutside of the vibe is right. Always a lot of people there so it makes you want to be there. Restaurant wise they have really basic offerings. Places you can find in Mesa, and Tempe, and Scottsdale. Now.... What truly makes Downtown Gilbert special are the small shops that are hidden away from the "main strip". One of those places is Clever Koi. Hidden in the Parking lot space behind Shaq's Chicken spot is a small strip of shops. A book store, smoothie place, and my favorite Clever Koi. Our family has very different tastes when we move from one member to the next. So finding places that we all like gets tricky. Clever Koi makes that easy because we honestly have yet to run into something we don't like. Let's start with our favorite starter. The steamed buns (giggity). The pork belly is hands down phenomenal. An amazing bite that literally makes you want more and more. The lazy fries are just that, again pork belly is included, but that garlic aioli is what drives this dish. The tai salad is obviously classic. The short rib dumplings literally make you close your eyes and just say "Mmmmmm". My middle child is the hardest pallet to please at any restaurant as he only eats certain things, but the Chicken Katsu sandwich here is his second favorite chicken sandwich in all this world. The first time he ate it he spent the whole ride home raving about it. Mind you, we live in San Tan, so not a short ride. The shaking beef is always good. It has this firey kick that brings the heat upfront but does not linger. You cannot forget about the fried rice here. Rice is one of my weaknesses in life second only to pizza. Fried rice ranks right up there with my top favorite ways to eat rice and this ranks right up there with my favorite fried rice places. The main reason we come here is because of the noodles. Ramen, ramen, ramen. When you think of Ramen, I assure you this is what you are thinking of. The broth is oh so savory and reigns in the fresh veggies and proteins to meld them with the noodles for a flavor punch each time you have a mouthful. They have great drinks here as well, or so I've been told by the other adults I come here with. I always just get a sake and Sapporo so... LOL The service is always good here and we somehow always manage to miss the lunch or dinner rush which is awesome. All in all... this is by far my favorite dining spot in downtown Gilbert. Great food, great drinks, great service, great atmosphere, in the middle of a great little square. A must eat for me.

Upon walking in the hostess with dirty blonde long hair just glared at me. She didn't smile, didn't…read moresay a single word, she just stared as if I was the most annoying thing in her day. I approached the counter she was behind and asked if I could have a table for one. I then clarified that I would prefer a booth as the area the chairs were located has people constantly walk behind you and that triggers my PTSD a bit. The girl looked me in the eye and grumbled ok and told me to follow her. She led me to a table with chairs. If there were no booths available I would have waited, but I didn't say anything. Maybe a single person wasn't allowed a booth. She dropped the menu and walked away, never said a single thing. The restaurant itself was very cramped. I know it's a seafood restaurant, but that doesn't mean you need to treat your customers like sardines in a tin. It's definitely positioned to fix maximum attendance without comfort in mind. The waitress I had was kind and sweet, very professional. She refilled the drinks I had quickly enough. The whole experience was quite slow, it took me about 90 minutes from entry to paying my bill, which felt like is longer than the amount of customers inside would warrant. The main issue I had was the quantity of food. It's hard to fault the place too much for this. They aren't trying to deceive you, but they are using every legal marketing technique at their disposal to hide how much food you actually get. When you order scallops at a place like Red Lobster you get a skewer of them, even other high end places like Osaka. However, here you get a scallop. Yes, a singular scallop. There's no note saying it's that price per scallop. No description saying this is a single scallop. The word isn't plural, but my first thought wasn't a, "oh a restaurant would serve a single scallop at a time." The menu price is also high enough where assuming you get a skewer of scallops isn't unreasonable. So yes, it is on me to not analyze the menu appropriately, but regardless I still felt remarkably disappointed after the long wait and huge bill with the amount of food I received. I also got some crab legs as well, it was a crab happy hour at the time. I ordered the Entree and while yes, it said 1/2 lb, I don't order crab legs enough to realize half a pound of crab legs is two. That's like four bites of meat. I figured the word Entree and the $75 price tag was enough to indicate that this was enough to feed a full grown adult. I was wrong. When you order crab legs at any other restaurant, you get enough for a meal. This wasn't even enough for an appetizer. The sides themselves were also quite disappointing. I got a smashed potato or something, which is quite literally what it sounds like. A baked potato they smashed into a cup. Not expertly cooked or seasoned with awesome toppings, just a generic potato. Then the most average baked mac and cheese imaginable littered with bread crumbs to try to mask its cheap taste. I left with a $125 bill after tip. To me, that's an insane price to pay for this amount of food and essentially leaving hungry. Considering nothing on this table requires an expert chef to make they are asking for too much. May as well go somewhere cheaper. I mean its crab... it's not like they season it or anything. Can't say I'll be back. Ever.
