Heaven in a box at a discounted price on Tuesdays
    Tina C.

The cupcakes here are AMAZING! They are moist, beautifully decorated, stay firm while you're devouring them, and mostly importantly are TWO DOLLARS A CUPCAKE ON TUESDAYS! Seriously, this is an amazing deal for these cupcakes, and I hope they don't get rid of this promotion. They have so many flavors in both chocolate and vanilla cake that it would impossible to not please even the pickiest eaters. The store is a bit tiny, so it can get cramped easily. Take your cupcakes to go and enjoy them at the town square a few blocks away.

These cupcakes were so delicious. I bought them without even trying them based on the reviews and have no regrets. They were a huge hit at my daughters party, so many people asked where I got them from. They weren't to sweet, just perfectly moist and flavorful. I will be back again soon.

Super mediocre. Definitely better cupcake places than this one. Cupcake was good, but it wasn't satisfying or memorable.

Perfect choice for my sisters birthday!! My sister love Carousel Cakes in Nanuet and wanted a Chocolate Outrage cake for her birthday. Unfortunately, the Nanuet location was closed for a Jewish holiday. So I called Ridgewood and asked if they had what I was looking for. The girl on the phone was very nice. Since they don't make the actual cakes there and they're frozen, it takes 2-3 hours for a cake to thaw. I asked if the girl would take it out for me then, since I needed it that night. She was happy to do so, put my cake on reserve, and all went swimmingly. The location is in a really cute area of Ridgewood. Right in the midst of a cute shopping district. Be aware - parking is borderline impossible since its metered street parking. We were there on a Wednesday around 5:30p and had to stop and jump out. The girls behind the counter were very nice. Got my cake and got on my way. My sister was super happy and for being a frozen cake, it was extremely good. I'm not a huge fan of chocolate on chocolate but this was delicious. If you're in Ridgewood, stop in for at least a cupcake or something. The selection looked incredible!

The cupcakes here are probably as good as frozen cupcakes get. Maybe not all cupcakes are frozen....but you can definitely get frozen ones if they run out. So I think 3 stars would be a pretty accurate description for me. I'll also include my red velvet frenzy below from 4 Ridgewood shops. Ridgewood Coffee Company ____________________________ The red velvet cupcake wasn't the most appealing, but it's one of the best I have ever tasted. The frosting was very good, I think I tasted some expresso in it. The cake was moist and flavorful. It's just sweet enough for my taste. This is the best of the bunch. Starbucks ____________________________ The seasonal red velvet cupcake had the best frosting (cream cheese based). The cake was more than decent. However, Starbuck's quality control on the cupcake is just a bit more than decent. I'm pretty sure some stores keep it for more than the 2 day limit, and the cake can get stale and dry. Cupcakes by Carousel ____________________________ The cupcake was better than the avg starbucks cupcakes. So it tastes as good as 80% of the starbucks cupcakes out there (due to the mass produced QA I assume) The frosting was alright. It wasn't anything spetacular. Crumbs ____________________________ The most presentable cupcake of the bunch. The frosting was supar....probably a sacrifice that needed to be made to make it look so pretty. The cupcake was downright disgraceful. I wouldn't feed that to my dog. (but I would give it to my friend as a gift:-D) Yeah, it's logical. My friend can appreciate the presentation for the cupcake. A dog wouldn't know a pretty cupcake from an ugly one.

The first impression of Cupcakes is that they know what they're doing. The place is clean, brightly decorated, and they even have little cupcake temporary tattoos- cute. The cupcakes? Yeah, I mean, they're alright. The cake is good. They've got the cupcake texture down, so all good in the hood. The icing? Not my thing. I like my icing really sweet and light and this was a little too creamy and thick. I tried halves of the red velvet, mocha, and my favorite, the German chocolate. But lets talk about that German Chocolate. It was serious business in the form of a cupcake. If you're going to check this place out and you like German Chocolate Cake, do it. Eat that cupcake so hard. So what am I docking two points for? I guess the icing on the mocha. I have to really like a place to give it 4 or 5, so 3 it is. It was just. Alright. But I wouldn't go far out of my way to get it again. Unless I was in Ridgewood and craving a cupcake...

Very satisfied with my first experience here! Staff was very friendly and there were plenty of options even late on a Sunday evening. I HIGHLY recommend the Elvis. I was so excited to try it that it didn't make it into m picture! Reminded me of a banana version of a Boston cream pie donut. Also very happy with the Carrot Cake and Red Velvet. They are both on the sweeter side, so don't expect the more classic homemade taste for these, but they definitely satisfied my craving. The salted caramel was a bit too salty for my liking, and I love the salty/sweet combo, so be prepared. Overall, great place to get your cupcake fix.

Ever since first discovering the blue velvet cake when a coworker brought it in I have been in love! Although red velvet is a popular flavor, blue velvet has a completely unique taste. At this locations you can purchase mini and regular cupcakes as well as full sized cakes. They are on the expensive side however if you're a true sweets lover this will be worth every penny!

These cupcakes were so amazing! I would totally get them again! The cake is made perfectly. It's not too overly sweet and just the right balance.

Service was quick and efficient. I ordered a latte and a scone. The scone was very delicious and fresh. My boyfriend ordered a frozen hot chocolate and a chocolate éclair. I tried a bit of the éclair and we both agreed that it was the star of the show. I normally am not a big éclair person but this one was so chocolatey and rich. It was filled with this creamy, fresh chocolate filling. I strongly dislike the store bought cream filling that they are usually piped with. We sat at one of the little tables on the sidewalk outside since the weather was nice. I will be back if I am in the area and in the mood for a sweet treat!

Cross contamination is no issue for me, as I informed them, but I need to know if there are nuts actually inside as an ingredient. One person said only one item on their dessert menu contained nuts, and when I mentioned that many contained hazelnut they seemed surprised to learn that hazelnut is in fact a tree nut. Lo and behold, the chocolate dacquoise inside the Spring dessert contained nuts and I got an anaphylactic reaction as a result and needed to take my EpiPen. The bite I had was very yummy but almost took me out so I'll still keep two stars for the baking itself. However, staff NEEDS to know what contains very common and deadly allergens.

We enjoyed the saffron kulfi (almond, pistachio, cardamom) and cookies and cream (blue tinted which didn't seem necessary). The server gave us a nice big scoop for $5.99. In addition to ice cream cakes, they sell signature sundae type things that you can customize and likely friendly to the camera but not to your wallet. There's a good amount of seating towards the back, which is nice since most ice cream shops are small. There's also a location in Hoboken. Looking forward to returning!

If I hadn't looked them up, I would have never guessed that they were a chain. As expected, we were the only ice cream craving knuckleheads walking in on a 50 degree weekday, but on the plus side we had this cozy ice cream shop all...to...ourselves! We were greeted by an employee who walked out from the back and she presented us with the menu on an iPad since the TV screens above the counter were not operating. To sum up their menu - they specialize in mostly Asian-inspired soft serve ice cream creations that are instagram-worthy. Sure, you'll probably want to take 47 pictures of whatever you order, but the pictures really don't do the delicious ice cream justice. We ended up ordering one of their "Floteas", which is basically a bubble tea topped with a beautiful tower of soft serve ice cream. Specifically, we got the Taro Bubble Tea & Matcha/Taro Swirled Ice Cream, but there were multiple other flavors we EASILY could have been swayed towards. Not knowing just how gargantuan the Flotea would be, we decided to also order the Nom Nom Cookie Signature Mason Jar, which consist of Monster Cookie Ice Cream, Chocolate Crunch, Chocolate Syrup, Cookie Crisp, Marshmallows, and Oreos. Once again, another monstrosity of an ice cream order that could be shared by 2-3 ice cream lovers. Honestly, considering that the prices were around $10-$11 for just about everything on the menu, we should have knew that we were about to find out where every penny of that money went to. Let's just say, we loved, I mean, loveeeeed the ice cream. I especially was infatuated with our Flotea, mainly because I have had a major lifetime crush (if I can describe it that way) on soft serve ice cream and they made it to perfection here. Of course, it didn't hurt that the ice cream happened to be a matcha/taro swirl, which are 2 of my all-time favorite flavors. In addition, they also had Earl Grey Vanilla, Vietnamese Iced Coffee and a combo of both - did anyone say heaven? As for the Nom Nom Cookie jar, excellent. Unfortunately, we were stuffed to the gills from our lunch prior to coming here and, on top of it all, it was a frigid fall day, but we still thoroughly enjoyed the ice cream here and you can bet that we'll be back one day when we can actually feel our fingers after holding the ice cream for more than 10 seconds.

That being said, the tea is premixed so there's no opportunity to adjust tea or sugar level. Tapioca pearls were a perfect consistency. Chip City specializes in baking cookies with a soft, gooey center. After drooling over photos online, I decided to treat myself one night. The store is located on a main street in Ridgewood, so it's street parking only. When I walked in, I couldn't get over how cute and bright the store was. To whoever is in charge of the marketing, design, and logos... kudos to you! A sweet employee (I think her name was Chrissy?) answered all my questions and helped me out. Since I came later in the evening, I was worried there wouldn't be too many cookies available, but I was wrong. There were plenty AND they were still fresh too! They offer classic flavors as well as seasonal and artisanal ones. So many unique and creative options! They also have mini ones and thin ones (with less calories). Flavors are rotated weekly and you can check the website for the line-up. Each cookie is $5.50, but trust me... they are dense, large, and can be shared with other people. I decided on the 3 Box Special ($14.50) and got... *Italian Rainbow - MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE ONE! It's a tri colored almond cookie filled with raspberry jam and topped with dark chocolate ganache. The almond paste was so rich and the sweet jam was the perfect touch. A MUST TRY! *Chocolate Chip - A yummy classic. How could you go wrong with a brown sugar cookie with dark chocolate chips? *Fluffernutter - The description made it sound better than it tasted, so this was my least favorite out of the three. It's a vanilla sugar cookie with peanut butter chips filled with marshmallow cream. The peanut butter overpowered everything else. I feel like this would work better with a chocolate cookie. What I love about these cookies is that they don't just taste like a giant blob of sugar. You can actually appreciate and distinguish between the different flavors and ingredients. If you like crispy/crunchy cookies, you probably won't be a fan. If you enjoy cookies with a slightly crunchy exterior, but a soft, ooey, gooey (almost raw-like) interior, Chip City is for you!

Their homemade ice cream is delicious, and they offer a huge variety of flavors. We stopped by on a Friday afternoon and lucked out--it wasn't crowded yet. If you've ever been here during peak summer hours, you know that's a rarity. This place is a local favorite, and long lines are pretty common later in the day. I was really hoping to get my favorite, Bailey's Cream, but they were sold out. That's one thing to keep in mind: while they have a ton of flavors, they aren't always all available. I ended up ordering the Black Raspberry Chip with free rainbow sprinkles (my go-to), and it definitely hit the spot. Someone in our group got a milkshake and absolutely loved it, while another ordered the Cappuccino Oreo and enjoyed it as well. Portion sizes: A single scoop (their small) is surprisingly large. With prices having increased over the years, I'd love to see a smaller, more affordable option for those times when I just want a little ice cream. I also wish they'd let you choose two flavors in a small cup instead of requiring a double scoop (medium) if you want to mix flavors. A few things to know before you go: Van Dyk's is cash only, although they do have an ATM inside if you need it. The shop itself is very small, with no indoor seating or restrooms. There are only a few places to sit outside, so most people end up standing around or grabbing a spot on the small wall. Parking can also be a bit of a headache. The lot gets hectic, especially when they're busy, and better signage would definitely help. We've found it's often easier to park on a nearby side street and walk over. Even when the line is long, the staff does a great job keeping things moving. One employee usually takes care of an entire group from start to finish, which helps keep the ordering process efficient. Everyone we've interacted with has always been friendly and helpful. Even with the cash-only policy, limited seating, and hectic parking, Van Dyk's is still one of our family's favorite summer traditions. The homemade ice cream keeps us coming back year after year, and hopefully next time they'll have my favorite ice cream, Bailey's Cream, in stock.
