The young ladies that work at the shop are always so sweet and kind and helpful and give very thoughtful suggestions. The cupcakes are delicious. They're always moist and the attention to detail the creativity of the cupcakes and the actual taste is simply amazing. I ran into the shop one afternoon while out shopping and I've been back a number of times. Everyone in my family loves the cupcakes. Perfect choice for my sisters birthday!! My sister love Carousel Cakes in Nanuet and wanted a Chocolate Outrage cake for her birthday. Unfortunately, the Nanuet location was closed for a Jewish holiday. So I called Ridgewood and asked if they had what I was looking for. The girl on the phone was very nice. Since they don't make the actual cakes there and they're frozen, it takes 2-3 hours for a cake to thaw. I asked if the girl would take it out for me then, since I needed it that night. She was happy to do so, put my cake on reserve, and all went swimmingly. The location is in a really cute area of Ridgewood. Right in the midst of a cute shopping district. Be aware - parking is borderline impossible since its metered street parking. We were there on a Wednesday around 5:30p and had to stop and jump out. The girls behind the counter were very nice. Got my cake and got on my way. My sister was super happy and for being a frozen cake, it was extremely good. I'm not a huge fan of chocolate on chocolate but this was delicious. If you're in Ridgewood, stop in for at least a cupcake or something. The selection looked incredible! read more

The frosting was very good, I think I tasted some expresso in it. The cake was moist and flavorful. It's just sweet enough for my taste. This is the best of the bunch. Starbucks ____________________________ The seasonal red velvet cupcake had the best frosting (cream cheese based). The cake was more than decent. However, Starbuck's quality control on the cupcake is just a bit more than decent. I'm pretty sure some stores keep it for more than the 2 day limit, and the cake can get stale and dry. Cupcakes by Carousel ____________________________ The cupcake was better than the avg starbucks cupcakes. So it tastes as good as 80% of the starbucks cupcakes out there (due to the mass produced QA I assume) The frosting was alright. It wasn't anything spetacular. Crumbs ____________________________ The most presentable cupcake of the bunch. The frosting was supar....probably a sacrifice that needed to be made to make it look so pretty. The cupcake was downright disgraceful. I wouldn't feed that to my dog. (but I would give it to my friend as a gift:-D) Yeah, it's logical. My friend can appreciate the presentation for the cupcake. Yeah, I mean, they're alright. The cake is good. They've got the cupcake texture down, so all good in the hood. The icing? Not my thing. I like my icing really sweet and light and this was a little too creamy and thick. I tried halves of the red velvet, mocha, and my favorite, the German chocolate. But lets talk about that German Chocolate. It was serious business in the form of a cupcake. If you're going to check this place out and you like German Chocolate Cake, do it. This place is in a good location. Right next to the movie theater, across from Starbucks, and in an area of Ridgewood where there isn't that much other stuff to walk to for dessert outside of the mostly overpriced Kilwin's, the normal semi-overpriced stuff at Starbucks, and the OK donut shop. They've been open for a good while. Most people here seem to compare it to crumbs where I think the flavors here are slightly better. The icing is a little thick though and the flavors are not super pronounced. I think I have had a better cupcake also at Ridgewood Coffee Company, but not so much that I'd pay more there. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who isn't a super big fan of cupcakes. I like more flavor in my desserts so Grandma's Secret and Sook are well preferred. read more

Very satisfied with my first experience here! Staff was very friendly and there were plenty of options even late on a Sunday evening. I HIGHLY recommend the Elvis. I was so excited to try it that it didn't make it into m picture! Reminded me of a banana version of a Boston cream pie donut. Also very happy with the Carrot Cake and Red Velvet. They are both on the sweeter side, so don't expect the more classic homemade taste for these, but they definitely satisfied my craving. VERY disappointed in the service that was provided...and my best friend didn't even step foot in this place. My best friend who found out she was pregnant wanted to do something special as an announcement for her family. She contacted them Friday morning before Labor Day weekend to just get a PRICE on how much a dozen fondont cupcakes would cost. The person who answered the phone was EXTREMELY unhelpful and my bff was told that there was no one at the bakery to answer the question and that she'd leave a message for someone to call back. Throughout the day, phone calls were made to follow up with each time, a different person picked up. Finally, someone was apologetic and mentioned that they would leave a message for the manager Tuesday (since they closed for Labor Day) and the manager would get back to her first tihng in the morning. Well, WENDY the manager contacted and was even MORE unhelpful than the first girl who answered the phone. The only vocabulary Wendy knew was "I don't know". Truthfully, for someone who's a manager, you would think they'd be more educated and apologectic in situations like this. My friend was finally told the cupcakes would cost X amount and was told that it would take at least week for fondont cupcakes to be made and ready for pick up. My friend has been calling since Friday morning. Granted it was Labor Day weekend, my friend could've been told by the first girl who answered the phone that Friday morning, it would take a week and due to Labor Day weekend, orders may be delayed. If that was said to my friend, she wouldn't have wasted her time WAITING for the store to contact her. Needless to say, Wendy was no help and didn't even offer any sort of solution. Not even a "how about these instead of the fondont cupcakes" or "we can have regular cupcakes ready by then"...NOTHING. I've been wanting to try their red velvet cupcakes ever since I read that Oprah said it was her favorite. So after lunch yesterday we dropped by Ridgewood before heading home. We found the little bakery beside the theatre in E. Ridgewood Ave. When my husband and I entered there were no other customers. But we were greeted by a grumpy blonde who immediately asked us what we wanted. I'm thinking I just got in and I'm just trying to decide which flavors I want. My husband wanted the red velvet so I told her I'm getting one. She asked us if we're getting it for here or to go. We were still undecided 'cause it's nice outside and there was a cute small table and chair we can eat our cupcakes while looking outside the bay window. But the girl was so impatient she was asking me how many do I want so she knows which box she could put the cupcakes in. Why was she in a hurry there was no one else in the store. And she was really really rude. I decided to get the flavors I wanted. I ended up getting 6 cupcakes in a box and a dozen parisian macarons which are good for their price ($1/each) considering they are hollow inside and they are not of the same size. The only notable flavors are the hazelnut and mocha. The bakery itself is homey and I wouldv'e liked to stay and enjoy my cupcake there but due to rude people running the business my experience didn't seem so nice at all. As for their cupcakes, which my husband and I ate at home, the red velvet was really good. The cream cheese frosting was not too sweet and the cake was dense and moist. He didn't like the Oreo cupcake though. He thought there was way too much frosting which didn't really suit his taste. And he's an oreo fanatic. He also liked the brownie cupcake. Same cake as the classic chocolate but with brownies on top of frosting. I didn't really like my pb cupcake. the only pb in there was the drizzle of pb on top and the choco pb cups on top. I really liked the mocha buttercream frosting on their mocha cupcake which is vanilla with mocha buttercream frosting. Even though the place is super small, they jam pack it with cupcakes and cakes. They had about 10 or so different cakes on sale and about 20 different flavors of cupcakes. I opted for the vanilla vanilla M&M cupcake and my friend had the Oreo cookie cupcake. I really liked my cupcake. The cake itself was super moist, the icing was creamy and not overpowering. I also liked that they were normal sized. Crumbs cupcakes (just down the street) are good, but they are TOO big. I can't eat one in a sitting. I either have to share it with someone or throw the rest away, which is not what I want to do when I spend $4.50 on a cupcake. These were perfect sized and reasonably priced. My friends cupcake was good (so he says) but it was half way frozen. I guess they just took them out of the fridge and didn't let them sit out long enough before they were served. He said that the cake part was too cold, but the icing was at a perfect temperature. The only thing I wish they had is a bigger area to sit. They only had one table, which was of course occupied. Good thing Starbucks was right across the street. We grabbed some coffee/tea and sat back in comfy leather chairs as we ate our cupcakes. read more

Crumbs moved in down the street from here and I was sad because they're just a tiny little business and Crumbs is a national chain. I don't want them to go out of business but I don't think they will because their cupcakes are so much better. They're only $2.50, smaller, and not as sweet. The cupcakes are also light and airy and the flavors are common yet creative. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo addicting. Thanks to my great friends, I was surprised with Carousel cupcakes for my birthday. There was a new one in the bunch called the Curious George. Vanilla cake with banana filling topped with peanut butter frosting and chocolate ganache. HEAVENLY! I also tried the brownie cupcake. If you love chocolate, you will love this. But it was too much chocolate for me. It was tasty - but i could only have a few bites. The Hostess, Carrot, Pumpkin, and Boston Cream are still on top of my list. Happy Cupcake-ing! read more

With 15+ reviews on Yelp of various cupcake places around the country, I am no stranger to cupcakes. While I won't be debuting as a guest judge on cupcake wars anytime soon I do think I have a pretty good sense of what makes a good cupcake. I went with four different kinds (you have to order cupcakes in even numbers...it's a rule)...the review is below: Red Velvet: "The One that Oprah Made Famous". This one was legit and perhaps one of the best red velvets I've had. The frosting had that hint of cream cheese goodness without being so overwhelming that you feel like you're eating a bagel. The cake itself was moist (hate that word) and if I could, I would give this cupcake 5 stars on it's own. Hostess: Perhaps I just think that no one can do it better than Hostess itself, but this fell flat. I was expecting more sweetness from the cream filling to balance out the dense, richness of the chocolate. Cookie Dough: This was the worst of the bunch. I expected some sort of faux cookie dough filling but all of the "cookie dough" was incorporated into a chunky frosting/topping and the cake it sat atop crumbled and lacked any flavor. Salted Caramel: Loved that this cupcake had a filling, and the cake was moist but again, the flavors were just really weak. Ordered cupcake breakaway cake based on picture on website. The picture showed alternating vanilla and chocolate cups cakes I also asked that the picture which I sent in should cover the whole cake. When I went back to pick up cake ( which was $98), I was so disappointed The picture did not cover the whole cake, cupcakes were all chocolate on one side and all vanilla on the other side ( totally unaesthetic) The girls in store needed to call Paul the manager who told me that it would taste the same even if it didn't look like the layout.
