I've been coming to this cupcake shop since I moved to the Bay Area. Every time I want to give a treat for a birthday or a thank you this spot is my go-to. I've tried most of their cupcakes and they're all so delicious, including the vegan options. They have regular sized cupcakes ($3.95 to $4.25 each) and mini cupcakes ($23.40 per dozen). You also have the option of purchasing cupcakes that were baked the day before which are $2.95 each (if I'm buying as a treat for myself I usually buy these and they still taste pretty fresh!) My personal favourites are the salted caramel and the carrot cake but you can't go wrong with any of them! Every person I've gifted them to has LOVED them. PS. I tried their birthday cake cupcake (vanilla base, chocolate buttercream) and their chocolate raspberry flavor of the month. 5 stars for taste: they taste delicious. Moist cupcake and super light and airy frosting. However, the cupcake part is dense - it's delicious to bite into but it sits heavy in your stomach. I did not have a gluten reaction, but I did have a stomach ache (this is not my gluten reaction) each time I had a cupcake. Stopped getting them because of this. Also as a presentation note: you should NOT be putting your gluten free cupcakes on the same stand and directly next to your regular cupcake. Sooo this place just replaced my go-to bakery (I won't name them). I found them on Instagram and was so excited to find a Black owned bakery! The first time I made a delivery order which was simple and quick, each day they have a set of cities that they deliver to (it changes each day of the week). My second time I ordered a birthday cake for my sister's birthday. I picked it up at the Berkeley. She's pretty plain in her cake preferences, so it was just vanilla on vanilla cake. I have been to the Berkeley locations. Really cute shops. I love their displays. Clear, well labeled, and so appetizing. Online ordering is very easy and user friendly and pick up was very smooth. Everything is so beautifully decorated, but what really sets them apart are the incredible flavors and quality of ingredients. I picked them up at 6pm the night before the event and refrigerated them. The next day they were excellent. We had 100 of the minis in a variety of flavors at a 70th birthday party and they were the biggest hit ever. Everybody loved the opportunity to choose. My favorite cupcake shop ever (yes, even better than Sprinkles!!!). This place is so so so good - the cupcake flavors are all delicious. The quality of these cupcakes are seriously above and beyond any we've ever tasted. I can't even state which one would be our favorites because they're all so good! I highly recommend trying the key lime with the crust on the bottom if you HAD to pick just one ...actually, maybe the carrot cake because the icing is to die for! Ugh, I'm sorry - I don't think I can officially recommend any single flavor because you just have to try them all for yourself. My only complaint is that there is no parking so if you need to pick up your order, you'll have to park in one of the many garages and walk over, or quickly put your hazards, run in to pay, and grab your cupcakes. I would go every single time I was in Berkeley and I am so excited to see a location opening in SF! Favorite cupcakes I've ever had! I've had many famous cupcakes but none compares to this. The flavors are so unique. One of my faves is key lime (and I'm not even a key lime pie fan). I also love the red velvet. The cake is moist and the frosting is so good. Oh ma gahhh I love this cupcake shop!!! I dont know what is happening back there, but these cupcakes are soooooo freakin delicious! First off, I'm not sure how they've mastered this key lime cupcake. Key lime pie is an art, and a very fine art to master. Cupcakin has taken the finest key lime and made it bite size, with the graham cracker crust to match! I couldn't believe my taste buds. We get a lot of treats at work. A few weeks ago, a talent brought us cupcakes. Being the glutton that I am, I had to have one. They arrived on Thursday, January 4th around 4:45pm. *Salted Caramel: Vanilla cake with caramel buttercream and a salted caramel garnish *Red Velvet: Moist red velvet cake topped with cream cheese frosting We got a dozen of the cupcakes listed above. I didn't know what they were when I grabbed one, so I went for the caramel one since on of my coworkers said it wasn't salted. (Obviously, she was wrong!) I liked how bite sized they were. (I love mini treats!) The cake was fluffy and the frosting not too heavy. Though I did taste the salt as I'm not a fan of sweet and savory together. It was faint as the salt didn't overpower the caramel, so I didn't mind too much. Another coworker ate the whole red velvet in one bite and mentioned the decorative straw had a coffee flavor. When I took organic chem, I would drop by here every week after our 5-hour labs just to give myself a damn treat after a straight half-day of hell. They definitely have the cake moistness and texture down on LOCK. Every one of their flavorings tastes super natural, and as if from super quality ingredients. At first I thought that spending more than $3 on a small cupcake was crazy, but then I tried it and my eyes were opened. It was actually one of the best cupcakes I've eaten, and I've eaten a lot of cupcakes. The have a great selection of cupcakes ranging from classics like red velvet to more interesting flavors such key lime pie. I got the key lime pie cupcake and it was amazing. The cupcake itself was very moist and had a nice light crumb. The bottom of the cupcake had a graham cracker crust or something like that because it was crispy and added a textural contrast. Instead of icing on top, I think that the cupcake had a meringue because it was light and not that sweet. The meringue is a good idea because icing would have made the cupcake too sweet and rich. Lastly, the cupcake was filled with lime curd which added the necessary lime flavor for key lime pie and brought in an acidity that balanced all the sweetness. read more

Cupcakin' makes cupcake perfection! At about $4 per cupcake or $2 per mini cupcake, it is pricey here for sure but the cupcake quality and taste largely makes the cost worth it. Just keep that in mind! Salted caramel - this has that perfect salted caramel frosting on top with a light drizzle of caramel. Carrot cake - SOLID for carrot cake fans. You can see the thinly grated carrot, raisins, chopped pecans and it is full of that wonderful cinnamon and nutmeg flavor you crave for in a carrot cake. Perfect airy and light cream cheese frosting on top so it's not too thick at all. Key lime pie - the top 2 were very, very good but key lime pie won it for us. I loved the crumbly graham cracker crust at the bottom and the surprise key lime curd in the center of the cupcake! The key lime frosting was spot on without being too tart or too sweet. Throughout all 3 cupcakes, each of the cakes were very moist. There was not a millimeter of dryness at all. My favorite part was actually the cupcake edges that were just the tiniest bit of crusty/chewy - hard to describe but that edge texture was just so perfect. Normally with cupcakes, I end up chucking the bottom half and just eating the top half. Not so with Cupcakin: these cupcakes are ridiculously moist and decadent all the way through. We enjoyed a red velvet cupcake and a salted caramel cupcake, along with friendly service and strict social distancing. My personal preference is a heavier frosting-to-cake ratio, and I'm a sucker for more creme or other interestingly-filled cupcakes (only saw fruit fillings available).
