I can't believe that this is my first check-in for Cure! I've been here several times after going on runs around this area of downtown Norfolk. Such a great coffeehouse. This is the type of place you think of chilling and sipping a cup of joe while either reading a book or getting some work done on your laptop. This place makes you could be placed in an ad for relaxing on your day off at a coffee shop during the day if you had a hired photog tagging along! You're greeted by the friendly baristas when you enter. After making your order, they give you a numbered sign so that they can locate you after you choose your seat. The place now occupies two other lots and the space makes the experience a lot more enjoyable. They also offer baked goods, teas, an assortment of hot or cold coffees, wine, and craft beers. Today, I ordered a cappuccino and a Cure club. The cappuccino was delicious. The club was larger than expected with crisp bacon (very important). This is a great coffeehouse with a smooth soundtrack playing in the background for your listening pleasure. read more

I love getting to write a positive updated review! Cure has completely impressed me! After my first review where I discussed my frustration with the Wifi, the owner messaged me. He politely apologized, explained how the problem occured, and gave me an estimate of when the Wifi in the back room would be improved. A couple weeks later, he followed up with another message letting me know that the issue should be resolved. I was genuinely excited to try them out again in hopes that I could actually spend a few hours working on my laptop this time. All is good to go! The Wifi is (literally) up to speed and all of the positive aspects about my first visit have held true this time as well. I am so relieved to now have this place as a go-to for working. I tried the avocado toast this time too which was simple but highly flavorful and filling. The bread was killer. The iced lavender latte satisfied my coffee craving too! Me and my wife stopped by as a "pit stop" while running errands and ended up finding ourselves sitting there for hours until they closed, talking and simply enjoying each other's company. Cure is one of my all time favorite spots in Norfolk. Great coffee shops are really hard to come by in the Virginia Beach area, but this place is a total gem. The atmosphere feels really fun and urban to me. They have local artwork throughout the shop and exposed brick walls. I love this spot because there is lots of seating and plenty of light. I often come here to study or read. Next up: let's talk coffee. Their coffee is INCREDIBLE. Try any of their iced lattes and you won't be disappointed! They have great menu options. First off the place was very cold in atmosphere and then the coffee was more expensive than Starbucks for a small coffee. We ordered 2 wraps both with bacon, I remember the name was turkey bacon wrap. First off itnhad no flavor and had more lettuce than turkey and one of them didn't even have bacon in it. I like to support local places but this place is a complete miss, I don't even understand how they have 4 stars when they would get a 1 star from me. Let me preface this by saying no matter what I always end up coming here still, even if I spend way too much money each time. Every time I order one of their specialty lattes they are good but they never have much flavor. I ordered the seasonal Cranberry Cheesecake Latte, I did not taste cranberry or cheesecake flavor at all. It's not like I wanted it to be overwhelming but I did want to be able to taste it. I ordered the Turkey and Fig sandwich for lunch which was good. It had strong flavors of goat cheese and fig preserves. However, I wish they used a more quality turkey instead of the kind that is all slimy and wet. I think I will stick to the Pimento BLT for lunch when I visit. I had a really good breakfast at this cute little coffee shop last weekend. I was stopping in the area to pick up macarons at hummingbird next door when I realized I arrived before they were open. The ladies working the counter were super friendly and helpful. After looking at the menu I decided on get an Iced Coffee with mocha and peppermint syrup and "The Morning Cure" bagel sandwich with a side of potatoes au gratin. The coffee was absolutely delicious. It the first time in my life I didn't need to dump mounds of sugar in my coffee to enjoy it. The bagel was pretty good as well and filling. My favortie part of breakfast though, were the potatoes. They were so good, I wish they came in a bigger portion. Next time I will order extra. I'm quite smitten with Cure. I had to see what the fuss was about! I must say I wasn't too disappointed. I LOVE the atmosphere, it's very homey and warm. I love the fact that it's homey, but has a very mod touch with even a little rustic vibe? I love it. I had the sandwich of the day, which was the delicious. My latte was absolutely to die for! Creme brûlée...just absolutely delicious (I also add a bit of raw sugar like a weirdo). The chicken was pretty juicy, the biscuit was yummy...and I loved the aoili on it! I did give one less star because one thing I really came in for were the cute latte designs said to be there. I asked for one, but the person at the counter didn't know how to do them. I love this place. MIght be one of my favorite coffee shops EVER; and I've been to many! I'm here traveling for work for a couple weeks and it's always great when you find a place that feels like home! They have amazing lattes with lots of milk alternatives. In addition, they have amazing food. If you're looking for a sit-down order off the menu server kind of place, this isn't it. It's quick, delicious, and a perfect coffee/food combination! Now let's get on with the review! The location is adorable. Cobble stone streets just has something about them that makes me love them. The interior of the coffeehouse is bright and welcoming and has plenty of seating. Every single time I've visited it's been busy which speaks volumes. I've tried a couple of their lattes. Lavender Mocha, Creme Brûlée, and some of their specials (can't remember the names). Every single one of them were just delicious and I have not been disappointment yet. We came during Covid. They had good precautions in place...plastic partitions, masks, and social distancing. My husband got an Americano and he wasn't thrilled with the taste of the coffee. I got the Candied Orange Mocha. It was very good, though not quite as hot as I'd have liked. But I liked that it wasn't terribly sweet. We both got the lox and cream cheese on everything bagel. We thought we were ordering the Lox Cream and even pointed at the menu as we ordered. But it came out just as a bagel with cream cheese and lox slapped haphazardly on top...nothing else. I pointed this out to the waiter and he said I didn't order the Lox Cream. But he was accommodating about bringing out the additional fixings (capers, lemon, dill, red onion, etc). It was delicious! Everything was on point. The matcha latte is the best I've had. The service was friendly and attentive. They are doing a great job with safety and cleanliness during the pandemic. The Location: Okay, let me start off by saying that parking is sort of sucky. If you want something close, you're going to have to parallel park. On cobblestone streets. And juggle lots of "no parking past this point" signs. BUT HEAR ME OUT!! It is located right in the middle of the gorgeous neighborhoods of downtown Norfolk! The Pagoda is right down the street, with lots of other pretty sights within walking distance. If you're an ODU student like me, it's a short drive from campus. Honestly, I don't mind parallel parking, I LOVE the cobblestone streets, and I'll gladly walk & make a photo op out of it too if there aren't any spots close by. I'm a glass half full kind of gal ;) 2. The Staff. I'll keep this part short and sweet - I've never had any complaints with service, and the ones I interact with the most there are always super nice and super cool people! 3. Made to perfection lattes. I am such a sucker for food/beverages I can take pretty pictures of. They probably know me there as the girl who spends a good five ish plus minutes taking pictures of her latte before drinking it. I would have given 5 starts is just a tad pricey for the parfait but the avocado toast was well worth it , the cappuccino was very good. This is a cute coffee house in Norfolk. It was a really good find. The chai tea latte was amazing. My boyfriend got their signature latte, with a shot of espresso, and loved it as well. Visiting from out of town was looking for a 3rd-wave coffee shop and ventured in. I ordered an espresso and a cappuccino. While they were making it I browed the whole bean coffee bags they have available for purchase. Bags were from 2 months ago. Coffee is a volatile product. Coffee degrades typically (ie 99% of the time) within 2 weeks of the roast date. Espresso is the most critical way of making coffee and they had 5 pound bags on display that are 4 weeks old. If Counter Culture (the roaster) saw this, they'd probably stop being their supplier as it reflects poorly. Sadly the espresso tasted that way. Very thin body. Very acidic. Muted flavors. Undrinkable. I threw it out. The cappuccino was merely ok. read more

This part of Norfolk is a desert with not a Starbucks in sight, at least according to Yelp. So with a need for a cuppa, I headed over here. Parking is a pain to find, but you can park on the street for either one hour or two depending on the space. And until 6PM, you can park in the Viola lot at the corner of Botetourt and York. Driving on cobblestones SUCKS! Great coffee. I had a Vanilla Haze latte to start with - vanilla and hazelnut was nicely done. And when I opted to stick around for a bit longer, my second cup was a pour over that was very rich and very dark. Neat vibe going on here with lots of young folks reading, surfing (I never did figure out their wifi code), drinking Counter Culture (!!!) coffee and eating breakfast sandwiches that looked awesome. The have all sorts of other stuff too, including a handful of bottles of wine, some beer taps (BEER??) and a cooler of bottled beer too. I can see why this is such a popular hangout. My quest continues to try local coffee shops. Cure is one of the shops I had yet to try and had wanted to for a while. So, why not invite a Yelper friend who is a regular at the joint to provide a little lay of the land too! Rosalind and I enjoyed a mocha and conversation about yelp business, boring to most I know. For those that have never been, this area it's in a high rent district. I do not think it's Ghent, but could be corrected. The turn on Botetourt St. is at a light and you cross the light rail tracks and will see the old warehouse building that houses Viola on the corner. There is obvious wealth all around as evidenced by gorgeous turn of the century mansions. The roads are a quaint cobblestone and parking is off the street and limited to one hour. I am pretty sure parking is not legal at the small lot on the corner, it's for the corner shop. The great news is you do not have to drive far on the road, cobblestone require you creep at about 10 mph, or risk taking your car for an alignment. The brick building is a real beauty, possibly constructed in the 40's. Barrel tile over hang in the front, huge clear windows at the bottom provide excellent light and visibility. Large frosted windows at the top that opened at one time and assume they are sealed off now. The building was broken up for different tenants at some time. Cure does not occupy a lot of space, but it works perfect for a coffee shop. I walked in and looked around and felt a little disappointed due to the building being historic. Cure has done something modern with a recent renovation which doesn't work for me. The wall are close to bare, what's up with that. I really loved that they have concrete in keeping with a warehouse theme. Painted walls were a pleasing color. But the seating motif was under whelming and boring. There was nothing about the dining area that was interesting other than the table in front of the window. Worse is the stained white popcorn ceiling. A real opportunity with a recent remodel could have blown this out and exposed the ceiling. I moved over to the counter to check out what food and drink items they had. I surveyed the Mocha board and quickly settled on a Cream Brulee. I discussed options with breakfast sandwiches and my Barista Michelle. She recommended a steak & egg sandwich which sounded great and I said go for it. Her service was above expectations the entire time and made the visit. I learned that they do get items from Bliss Bakery and Chelsea Bakery. Rosalind and I moved to the best seat in the house one of two in front of the window and sipped on our delicious mocha's. Michelle had created a stunningly beautiful mocha. Only thing I will be critical about is temperature which was too cool for my taste. Our food came out very quickly and was brought to the table by Michelle with extra napkins and silverware. She was terrific and got us water too.\ My sandwich was visually awesome looking, but tasted just good, not great. Served on a bagel that was tough did not help. The egg was so, so and the coffee infused steak was pretty good. The side of tiny potatoes did nothing for me other than looking interesting. There were close to flavorless. According to Michelle you can ask for the sandwich on croissant which taste better. There are two restrooms in the back that are unisex. Before leaving I utilized the restroom and although clean they were out of soap at 10 AM, this means it was not checked at open. Paper towels were not an issue. Elite Yelper Nikko wrote in his review that he "loves all the coffee shops in Norfolk, but I love them for different reasons!" I get it and this one has it's positives and with so many shops in the area to get a caffeine fix in my opinion this is a weaker choice. Location awesome, there is almost nothing else around. Coffee choices great and tasty, my food choice weak, atmosphere needs more in my opinion. They also call themselves a Beer Garden. Beer and wine are served which sets them apart from other coffee shops. I may return, but probably in no hurry. read more

Color me far from impressed. While service was friendly behind the counter I had a few issues during our visit. Who takes 25 minutes to make a breakfast sandwich? They have MAYBE 10 tables in the entire place, each filled by guys and gals on laptops who didn't even look like they were paying customers. Is there a rule on how long someone can sit when it's busy if they aren't buying anything? It took a bit to wait for a table, I get irked by people just hanging out because they can when there are people who actually want to eat here as well. While I was miffed at a $3 cup of joe at first, at least it it did include refills. About 20 minutes had already passed and I was about done with my first cup which I tried nursing the whole time waiting for the grub to come out. That was when we asked why the food was taking so long and I asked about a refill on coffee. I did receive service at the table and a refill was promptly made. It was a robust blend and the cream/sugar is self service. They have somewhat of an identity crisis, are you a wine/cheese bar with beer taps or a coffee house? I'm not saying a place can't be both but the branding is confusing for an out of towner. The decor was urban chic but because of the size, the tables felt very cramped and crowded. Finally, someone utilizing a high top that had four chairs who was sitting alone just playing on her laptop finally got up and we moved to a less incommodious area to spread out a bit. The breakfast sandwich was standard, the toast a tad burnt on the outside. They also had gotten a shipment of unripened avocados that day and we weren't able to order it as one of the breakfast options. A good manager would run out and buy ripened fruit and return with it so customers wouldn't be upset about this but alas, nobody here thought of an actual solution. Nothing will ruin a visit when you're out to eat by waiting longer than the standard amount of time for an order or not have an ingredient in stock, both simply need to be fixed. We could visit again in the area as I have a friend who lives down the street and would entertain possibly going back but right now, I was left far from blown away and have experienced much better all around. read more

Stumbled upon Cure and this cute little area while trying to find an open coffeehouse this morning with my friend. It was a perfect, kind of cobblestoney street to walk down for a relaxing and cozy morning. Cure is adorably decorated and has little cups of flowers on the tables. It's kind of the picture perfect, cutesy, hispter coffee date place. They have a lot of different lattes and some interesting teas on the menu. The brunch menu looks really good. I scoped out some of the other people's breakfast sandwiches, and I would have definitely been down to eaten one if I wasn't so full already. I ordered an oolong tea, which came out to about $2.25 in total. Oolong tea anywhere else tends to be more expensive, but here, it was the same price as the other teas which makes me super happy! My friend ordered a latte, and it came out with a pretty leaf drawn into the foam. The oolong tea was delicious, although you really can't mess up tea too much. The service was fairly quick for drinks, and pretty friendly. I'll be back to try some of their brunch foods next time! Parking isn't too bad, there is a lot of street parking around. There was a long line by the time we left (around 10:15 AM on a Sunday) and a lot of the tables were taken. So be prepared to wait for a little bit if you get here any later. Came here a few times now and both times seems to be solid tasting coffee and menu dishes. Saturdays seems to be really packed and had to wait a bit for a table to open up. Second time was the middle of the week during lunch time and had much better service. First visit: Carmel latte and Egg Béchamel. My latte was really good made with Strong coffee and well blended Carmel with soy milk. Egg Béchamel was also good but they were really skimpy on the sauce, next time I'll ask for extra sauce. I like the poach egg that accompanied the bacon and Baguette. Great combination. Second visit: Decaf iced coffee and Brie LT sandwich. Now this sandwich was really good! The bacon was hearty and loved the fact they used arugula instead of your ordinary lettuce. What made this sandwich over the top was the French Brie! Taking it from your plain oh BLT to Brie LT!
