Rolando was incredible! After a couple traumatizing experiences in San Diego, we researched for a long time before booking an Education Cut with Rolando. It's an investment but so worth it! My 12 year old has very tight curls with multiple curl patterns that continue to change in puberty. She became self-conscious of her hair in middle school and desperately wanted to understand how to maintain it so that it grows again and how to style it so that she can stop wearing slick back low pony tails. Enter Rolando - he was patient, took his time to listen to her concerns and explained every step as he was doing it. He went through each product, was intentional about keeping it minimal effort so she could learn how to recreate it herself, and suggested products that were best for her hair that also were affordable. My daughter left with healthy, defined bouncy curls and a huge smile. So grateful for this experience and happy to have someone we now trust. As an aside, the studio itself is lovely. It's unfortunate that I have to write this review, but I have reached out to the stylist and she left me on read. I previously left a glowing review for Amy as I was absolutely stoked about my curly cut (May 23rd) and color correction (June 2nd). However, I noticed within a few short days that the darker color that had been applied to cover my previous horrendous blonde highlights had begun to fade. I thought a slight fading was perhaps normal, but then I started to notice that my roots were beginning to show as well. After paying close to $500 for this color correction, including teasy lights and root shading, I expected the color to hold up. Amy informed me that I wouldn't need to come back until between 4 and 6 months to have the roots shaded again. This was important to me as I was specifically looking for low maintenance coloring due to the previous constant need to get highlights every 6 to 8 weeks. In less than 2 months since I had the cut and color correction, my hair color was back to what it was prior to the color correction, meaning the highlights and low lights and roots now show through. I was even asked by a friend a few days ago if I had highlighted my hair again. I reached out to Amy to inquire if this is normal or if there is a reason this could have occurred even though I am using sulfate free, color safe products, and only washing my hair once to twice a week. I even sent her pics. Sadly, she left me on read for over a week and has not responded. So I thought I should make others aware because after paying close to $300 for a haircut and close to $500 for a color correction, I expect the return on my investment to last more than 2 months. I would also expect the stylist and salon to stand behind their work or at least attempt to provide an explanation or have a discussion with me, but this wasn't the case. Now I am out of pocket about $800 with only a cut to show for it with color correction lasting less than 2 months, so I wanted to warn others. In this economy especially, this is a huge disappointment. read more

My haircut was ok, but with a $300 price tag I expected more. The style post-wash left me with limp and undefined curls. There are few people on Earth that I adore more than Allie. After a few years of social media lurking, I finally caught an opening in her books early in the post-COVID era. With every cut, I fell more and more in love w my hair and the sorcery Allie welded every time. We talked through what I was looking for, she gave honest feedback on potential limitations and she was quick to fix anything that wasn't quite right. Beyond her masterful technique, she's just an all around goddess. So much so that after moving cross country, I often found myself plotting to fly into SD for a quick visit to her chair. Honestly, I'm so bummed. As curly girls there's already so much trauma around our haircuts, and I have now been disappointed twice by this salon. Can't remember who did my hair the first time but I spent $200 for a TRIM that barely made much difference. Dagger through the heart forking out my wallet, but I had hopes that next time would be better. I go back for the $80 cut a few months later; I just needed a little trim and wanted a little more of a wolf ish shape but nothing crazy.... tell me why i get like a 20 min dry cut that F*CKS my cut UP. I've got like 3 random ringlets that stick out through the cut to make it "wolf ish" and the right side is hacked up way more than the left. It just felt inconsiderate and disrespectful of my time and money and hair. I will never go back all they care about is money and it's not worth it. I have thicker, somewhat difficult curly hair and I've always had trouble at regular salons getting cuts that look amazing when I blow-dry and straighten, but look like a mess when I wear my hair naturally. I've gone to Coral twice now and she's managed to give my curls shape while really taking off weight and keeping length.
