If it wasn't for Yelp, I'd have avoided Curry Place. It looks rather...sketchy...on the outside, and the inside is so generically decorated you wonder if it's a popup or a restaurant that might fold and be replaced with something else at any time. Fortunately, I had the reviews to guide me, and my friends and I were glad we did! The Ghost Chili curry is exactly what it says on the label, but if you can tolerate heat, it's an amazing thing to try. You get quite a bit of burn, but the flavors are amazing - fruity, rich, and savory, it's way more than "just" hot. If you're looking for something on the milder side, go for the kebab plate. You get a great selection of different meats, all with different spice rubs, and a lot of protein for the price. The garlic naan was solid, and I really enjoyed the salty lassi I had with my meal - it helped cut the spice from the curry really nicely. Prices are reasonable, and the service wasn't amazingly fast, but it wasn't horribly slow either. Worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

We've been going to this place once a week for the lunch buffet after baseball because our kids request it. After 3 visits, the food continues to be exceptional, and the service very friendly. Just yesterday, we decided to order some take out (this brings the total to 4 times we've eaten here). And it was every bit as tasty and wonderful. And very affordable. Yes, some dishes can be on the spicy side, nothing surprising there. It's Indian food! But there are plenty of mild options. Because the lunch buffet is not the same every day, we've been able to sample a lot of dishes. We fell in love with the Paneer Chilli, which is spicy, yes, but what great flavor. If you want mild, go for the chicken tikka masala. The reviewer who gave this place 1 star because the spicy food gave him "gas" is clearly uninformed about quality Indian food, and should not have bothered eating something he knows would upset his seemingly delicate stomach. The naan was a bit doughy, the crispy fennel cracker things (papadum?) was not crispy, and a few of the dishes were just a clumpy mush without much taste. And the rice was dry. Had take out from here last night. It was first time ordering from here. We had Vegetable Samosa, Garlic Naan, Butter Chicken, and the Spicy Ghost Lamb Curry. All were excellent. I would rate it closer to 4.5, but not quite 5 stars. The mint sauce with the samosas was a little runny and the naan a little under done for my liking. The entrees were excellent and will definitely order from here again, The lamb dish was definitely hot which I loved, but was too hot for my wife. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce delicious. We eat Indian at least 1x / month and this might be our new 'go to' place. Like others said, don't judge this book by its cover. read more

Tried Curry Place for lunch yesterday and had their Curry Goat. I had heard a lot of fuss over this restaurant and thought I would give them a shot. The goat was yummy and well cooked. The basmati rice was also good but I wish they would have given a bigger portion of the rice. The rice wasn't enough for the amount of goat given. I also got an order of Onion Kulche which was probably the best I've had from any Indian restaurant. They have a lunch buffet but we unfortunately missed it by a couple minutes- looked good though and inexpensive. $8.99 on weekdays and $9.99 on weekends. The food was good but the restaurant itself was a bit dirty. Food and dirt all over the floor...not so nice. I would return to Curry Place to try their lunch buffet. read more

The best kept secret in Germantown. No frills dining but the food is great. I suggest the lunch buffet that way you can sample several dishes. I've had the buffet before and everything was delicious. Delicious. They deliver within 5 miles of their location and have a minimum $30 charge for delivery, which is great for ordering for work. I was skeptical to try the Indo-Chinese menu, but the Chicken Hakka Noodles were incredible. So were the papri and samosa chaats. So yummy and flavorful. They even use an iPhone card swiper for deliveries so you can pay by card. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch and dinner. The reasons I'm only giving 4 stars instead of 5: 1. The phone service is pretty bad. It's often so hard to understand the person on the other end of the line. 2. The goat vindaloo is like 80% bone. After India Palace wrecked their chances of having me as a regular delivery customer with their crappy hijinx (still haven't forgiven them for the incident in an old review of mine) we stumbled across Curry Place. Not only do they deliver, but their delivery food is quite solid. The naan transmits better than expected when delivered, I will say that. I am particularly a fan of their paneer tikka masala and their biryani's. The Aloo gobi was also pretty good, but sort of came off more like a General Tso's Cauliflower, less like I'm used to with my aloo gobi's at restaurants in the past. Came here last week for my birthday dinner after reading the reviews on Yelp. Glad we did! The place is small but intimate and cozy. The service was kind of slow but the staff was very friendly and the food was amazing! Totally worth the wait. Everything came out piping hot and was served family style, where everyone could sample a different dish. The best part of the meal had to be the mango lassi- definitely slap your mother good! We were trying to avoid spicy-hot foods because our 7-year-old can't handle it; do NOT believe your waitress if she tells you there are only 2 items that are spicy. When I got the check I was expecting a $12+ dollar meal, but it was only $8 (plus tax and tip)!! I will pay $8 any day of the week for all you can eat of that delicious Indian food. A couple notes: The restaurant is small so probably not the best choice for a group over 4. They may have one table that can accommodate 6 or so. One of my coworkers always orders unsweetened ice tea (gross). He doesn't order it here because it takes forever. We think they probably don't have it ordered often (because unsweetened ice tea is gross) so they have to make a fresh batch for him. I've seen Curry Place while patronizing other shops in the shopping center but never bothered to stop in. What a mistake! My husband and I decided to treat ourselves after a hard week of work, and we both agree that the Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala dishes were among the best we've had. The wait time to receive the ordered meal items was was reasonable and not too long. The restaurant interior is on the small side, but there is plenty of room for couples or for larger families. They were cut in triangles (2 slices not completely separated. I liked the size as it separates the curry flavor from the cheese flavor. Chicken Saag is becoming a regular order for me. I went here for the weekend lunch buffet. Our group included a vegetarian, and we were pleased to find that the buffet had a good number of items for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. The price - $9.99 - also couldn't be beat. The selection consisted of the standard dishes that you'd get in most Indian restaurants - there was a spinach dish, a tandoori chicken, paneer makhani, chola (chickpea curry), a chicken vindaloo and a goat curry. The meats were extremely well-done, and the chicken vindaloo gravy was particularly fragrant and tasty. Some of the dishes - the paneer, the tandoori chicken - could have been spicier, but that may just be my taste. I will say that I was sorry not to see more of the Asian fusion dishes in their buffet. We asked, and the waiter said that we could order these a la carte, but it didn't seem worth it since the buffet was filling and had a good selection of other items. Since we didn't get to try them, I can't review their "Indo-Chinese" - the particularly spicy, oily and delicious variant of Chinese food that is particular to many Chinese restaurants in India. The decor is a bit basic, even for a no-frills Asian restaurant, but everything was clean and in good shape. There wasn't really a waitstaff, but then, they didn't really need one. I'd definitely recommend this place for a weekend brunch, but with the caveat that the food they serve in their buffet isn't fusion. read more

You have other Indian restaurants in the are that charge 12-13$ for a buffet and usually way more selections but then only a few of the items are good. This is a small cheap eatery. Very quaint restaurant in a storefront in a strip mall, and sparsely decorated inside. That said, the staff was very friendly and attentive throughout the meal, and the portion sizes are quite generous. As for the food, we started with the paneer tikka, which was very good- the yogurt sauce really made this dish. We ordered plenty of naan- the rosemary garlic naan sounded good, but you really couldn't taste the rosemary. The garlic naan was prefect though. For my entree, I decided to try something new, having never had Indo-Chinese before, and got the chicken hakka noodles. The food here is flavorful and authentic North Indian food. We live nearby and this is one of our go-to takeout restaurants. Favorite items: Navrattna Korma (creamy and delicious with lots of vegetables), Gobi Manchurian (we order this "dry" since it usually comes saucy), Baingan bhartha (creamed eggplant) Cons: The atmosphere is the reason I took off a star.
