Owner is not friendly if you're only looking to buy. He won't let you browse his selection or store and will only bring items up 1 at a time. He also has insane mark ups on his boards. For instance he has a board he tried to sell me for over $200 (that he also claimed was a REALLY GOOD deal), but I found the exact same board on Amazon for $74. Exact same board, exact same wheels, exact same trucks and equipment. And I'll attach photos of the board plus the Amazon photo for reference. I got the board in and took it over to try and compare it to the one he has in store, but he refused to show me the board he had when he saw mine. If you're simply looking for a repair I'm sure he's great, but if you're looking to buy something this is not the place. read more

This scooter shop is the best!! The staff genuinely cares about their customers. We have a fairly new scooter that had an issue with its rear tire. We took it there and not only did they replace the rear tire, but they showed us how the front tire was damaged making it extremely dangerous to ride. Stopped by with my Scooter to see about repair to a tire. Was rudely greeted and made to feel as though I was a bother for even stopping by. The employee spent a total of 45 seconds with me. Told me NO he doesn't do tire repairs. When I asked for a recommendation of another place to take it, or how I could repair it on my own, he was rude and had no answers. Finally found a good knowledgable place to buy a scooter. I had no idea they had gotten this complicated. Extremely different from the basic Walmart collapsible scooter. Took both my kids over to check out the store. We spoke with Chris the tech that works on all the scooters. He was extremely knowledgable and patient with all of our questions. He could have put us in any scooter but he took the time to explain about each part and the cost factor in building versus buying a already made scooter. BEWARE BEWARE! I purchased two scooters from Travis Kirk with Custom Scooters. My scooters were in excellent condition when I took them for a general maintenance service. Travis Kirk switched my scooters. When I showed him a picture of one of the scooters taken less than a month before dropping it off to him, he escalated, yelled at me and threatened to call the police on me. He didn't even bother to look at the distinct different colors and variations in the picture. I ended up taken him to small claims court. He had to pay! Don't trust this guy. I had the displeasure of returning to Custom Scooters. I am reminded of the Old Testament quote about "a dog returning to its vomit". The wife was as confused as ever. I tried 2x to explain what I needed done, and she continued to ask about unrelated issues. Finally a bystanding customer joined in and together we got her straightened out. She punted to Larry, who had been loudly hardselling some poor bastard on the phone: "I can save you X-hundred dollars today!" "limited time offer" "got to happen today" "what address would we be shipping that to?" Oh, sweet lord. I waited for the salesbeating to end, feeling sorry for the customer who had *clearly* called about a cheaper bike. Larry took one look and punted to Plano Cycle: "you need a bike shop". That's a little odd given that the manufacturer lists him as a sales/service center for that brand, and he had some of them on the crammed sales floor. I'm tempted to call the manufacturer and let them know that CS is punting their product repair/service. I would not go back to Custom Scooters if my skin was on fire and they had free buckets of water. read more

Needed to figure out why my daughter's scooter wasn't working today. I suspected it was battery related as many people have battery issues once Razor scooters hit one year old. After poking around the internet searching for scooter repair, I couldn't find many options. Asked my Facebook friends for recommendations and everyone seemed to think Custom Scooters in Plano was the best option. I called them and found out they could diagnose the scooter's issue for $35-no appt needed-first come, first serve basis. When I arrived. I saw 2 employees, no customers. Both were on the phone and never acknowledged me. After 5 minutes, Larry interrupted his personal phone call (discussing cable/internet options for his home with his wife). Told him I needed to have a scooter problem diagnosed. He told me to bring it in and continued his personal call. I was sort of surprised he never offered to help get the scooter out of my SUV-pretty heavy and bulky-but I didn't ask for his help so I guess I can't fault him. As I rolled scooter in, he continued sitting in his chair on his personal call. After awhile, he walked over to his front desk and began pushing a labor contract at me for $35 diagnosis, battery replacement for $89-$109 and $35 labor charge. When I hesitated to sign, he finally wrapped up his phone call. I questioned the price of batteries. He explained that the scooters come with the $89 battery and they usually last 1 year. He recommended upgrading to the $109 battery that he says last 3-5 years. I looked at the two options and started googling the batteries to see if I could find them cheaper elsewhere. He got flustered and starting getting short with me "fine, you want the cheaper battery, I'll put in the cheaper battery-no problem." As I was trying to explain that I do want the better battery, just want to make sure I am getting a fair price, he walked off into the back room where repairs were taking place and acted like he wasn't hearing me. I found the better battery on line for $25 on Amazon-walked into repair area to show him and he said, "well that's not our price." The "rational shopper" side of me knew I should order the battery online and have hubby put it in. The "irrational mom" side of me just wanted to get it done and check it off my to-do list. My mom side won today-and I paid $100 more than I should have. For convenience, I guess this place is okay-but just know going in they mark their batteries up 400% and leave much to be desired from a customer service aspect. Oh-and as I was leaving, he never offered to hold the door open as I rolled the scooter out-nor help me get it back in my car. I'm thinking we could use another scooter repair shop for the Allen/McKinney/Frisco area. read more

I should own stock in this place! I have been coming here with my son since he was 7 and the customer service Travis provides is amazing. We have purchased (so far) 2 scooters, also custom parts to make one of them custom, he has a gas powered mini bike (which he loves, and adults are able to ride it too) and I believe he also got a little racing car to zip around in. That's just me...I have no idea how much more my ex has bought from there. We keep going back because the customer service is second to none, they are really quick with repairs, and Travis goes out of his way to make sure everything he sells is taken care of immediately when there is an issue. We will continue to go there and even though this place is more expensive than Walmart, you get what you pay for and Custom Scooters is quality all the way! read more

I was a bit skeptical walking in after seeing the previous reviews, but a friend of mine who has two kids who are into scooters told me that this is the place to go. That skeptical feeling vanished as soon as I stepped in the door. I was immediately greeted by Travis, who identified himself as the new owner of the shop and he was most helpful and informative. In talking to him, I learned that he had just taken over the business at the beginning of October. I was there to check out the various types of scooters (I'm considering buying one for my son for Christmas) and he walked me through all of them with ease while explaining the features and benefits. Even though I was really just researching a future purchase, at no time did I ever feel pressured to buy. The store was moderately busy, but Travis and another person in the shop were able to easily handle the flow of traffic without making anyone feel ignored or unimportant. It was a breath of fresh air compared to the service I've received in other places. I actually wound up buying a 'Triple 8' helmet for my son (which I didn't even walk in intending to buy) and Travis even had me select some of the scooter branded stickers to dress the helmet out like all of the kids are doing these days. My son was thrilled. Great place, great service and I will definitely be back for the scooter purchase when ready. I'm always happy to support great local businesses that are doing it the right way. Note to anyone who has already been here with the poor experiences previously listed - I'd recommend coming back and checking them out again. We called to see if they had a part for a scooter we had that needed repair. They told us to bring it in and they would try to match it to something that they had. After driving half an hour from home, we arrived there with the part in hand. The person asked what it was from and we were told: "We don't have anything that will fit that scooter" No looking to see if it would match and we felt it was a little rude of an approach. After visiting twice and trying to get info to make the right decision, it was apparent the salesman did not know anything about the products and Owner wasn't interested intalking to me or sharing any info unless I was ready to buy today. We highly recommend Custom Scooters! My 12 year old son needed a new freestyle scooter. After looking online for a few hours and being overwhelmed by the variety of products, I decided to call a local store for help. Travis was very helpful and recommended the best scooter for the money given my son's age, height and ability! We wanted a scooter that was a step up in design and durability because he is learning basic tricks which include small jumps. The basic freestyle scooters sold at many large box retailers are not strong enough to withstand jumps (especially as kids get older). Brought my sons' e300 Razor scooters in for repair and was highly impressed with the service and owners. Very fast and reasonable repair costs will keep me coming back despite the fact I live 40 mins away. One of the repairs was a flat tire and they had it done quickly. However, a few weeks later I had a fluke flat tire in the same scooter's rear tire. I came to discover that a piece of broken metal had worked its way between the tube and the tire. Have no idea how that could possibly happen, but they fixed it right up with no charge this time. Lifelong customers here! Really like Travis and his wife who are super friendly and knowledgable about all their products. Wish I was a kid again so I could ride all those cool scooters! read more

I visited this shop after reading the 2 reviews on-line. As such, I didn't have great expectations for the service. I planned on it not being a quick visit. I found the people to be knowledgeable and honest. They worked with me to troubleshoot and repair a brand of electric scooter they had never seen before that was in pretty bad shape. In addition, my daughter was able to purchase a used electric scooter that was in "like new" condition for less than $200. This particular shop is the 2nd largest of its kind in the US. I feel fortunate to have it located here in DFW. I have already referred a friend to this shop and they have won me over as a regular customer. It is indeed a "mom & pop" shop and I like the positive aspects that come from working with people who are truly invested in the success of the company. Had a curbside appt today to get my daughter's Razor Scooter fixed. I originally went to the website and requested an appointment. Someone contacted me promptly and we set a time for me to bring the scooter in. When we arrived today, there was a large white truck parked in front, so I couldn't see in and was worried they couldn't see me. I called, but got the voicemail so hung up and told my daughter to go knock on the door, or see if she could get someone in there. (I can't walk as I recently had foot surgery). She went to the door, knocked, then came right back saying she had seen someone inside walking by. So I thought I should call again, which I did and got the voicemail again. BTW, the voicemail only directs you to the website; no other instructions. SOO, I told her she would have to go try the door again. She did and came back saying a man yelled at her. I was trying to understand this, when he came out yelling at me saying, "Ma'am, you don't have to call me 5 times!!" I said we would just move on and we left. My daughter (who is autistic, but that's not the point of this review), was hysterical. But we didn't know what to do!! And I didn't call 5 times. And why do you have to be mean to people who are trying to give you their business?! Not to mention a man should never yell at a teenaged girl. Avoid. read more

I purchased two scooters from Travis with Custom Scooters on December 26,2018. I've never had any problems with the scooters, but I decided to take both scooters to Travis for basic maintenance in order to keep them running well. I dropped the 2nd scooter off on June 10, 2020 and I picked it up on June 25th. After looking at the scooter with Travis and my son, I noticed that the color of the back of the scooter wasn't the same as the bike I had dropped off. I immediately told him, "This isn't our bike." He responded that it was. I said, "Travis my bike wasn't aqua blue with a faded Wiener Schnitzel sticker ." He insisted that it was our bike and that the sun faded that part of the bike. I reached in my purse and showed him a picture of our bike that was taken on May 08, 2020 just a few weeks ago and it wasn't the same color as the bike that he was given us. My son also implied that he didn't think it was his bike. Travis said that the color fades over time from being in the sun. I told him that I kept the bike in the shade. He said that he only had one green bike in his store. So I thought okay, perhaps he's right and I gave him the benefit of the doubt since I had purchased it from him originally. But less than an hour later, I returned with the bike with the same picture blown up to show him that the two bikes weren't the same and that I wanted my bike. He started to escalate and shouted at me. I said, "Travis, I'm not trying to argue with you and you're yelling at me." He told me to leave his property and not to come back and if I were, he would call the cops. He was horribly rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. read more

Awesome shop and store. Travis and Mandy are the owners and they really know their stuff. Travis helped my son and I pick out helmets. I test rode a 24" stolen BMX. They do trade ups and trade-ins. Ignore bad reviews, this is a place you have to go by and see. Your kids will freak out and you will find yourself feeling like a kid again. This is the second experience we have had with Larry that has turned out bad. One of my best friends who is an ER doctor bought his son an $800 gas scooter from Larry in 2012. He barely used it and went to sell it back to the store. He was offered $50 for an $800 scooter. However, Larry, did offer to sell replacements parts to upgrade the scooter in order to "possibly get $200 for it." Ludicrous. When my friend responded that he purchased this scooter for $800 and it's in the same condition, he was told to leave the store immediately! I am a big supporter of local businesses. I was not familiar with any kind of specialty bike or scooter store until my son found this place on the internet (he's 10) and identified that they have and carry the top quality names in scooter along with top quality BMX and regular bikes. If they don't have what you need, they will order it. Even though my son is a kid that most businesses would just kind of roll over or ignore for the parents, they paid attention to what HIS needs were and what HE wanted. Not so much what I did! What I wanted was for my kiddo to be happy with the non-pro standard bikes that you can get at walmart. He wants quality and to get better at what he does. So he gets everything from them. His collection has grown to a Lucky scooter (which he got for Christmas), now more recently, a BMX bike with a lighter frame so he can do tricks and lots of gear, clothing and even his helmets...which the owner gave him a bunch of pro name stickers to bling it out with. They have the newer bike helmets that adjust by turning something in the helmet rather than mess around with a chin strap, which doesn't look good on anyone. It also isn't the shape of an avocado. Sure, everything is more expensive here BUT the more you shop there, the better your relationship with the employees become and before I knew it my little boy was being very adult at the counter with every detail and everyone there was taking him very seriously. I will continue to go here and my son will too without a doubt at all. I've spent a little here, but they also warranty everything and do their best to fix your stuff if you need repair or even just an adjustment. I recommend this place before you try the larger pro shops where you don't really get the attention that should come with the price you pay for the items that you're buying. Customer service is nearly obsolete these days, so would you rather go to the place that explains things in detail? Or would you rather just spend your money at a place that just scans you through and hands you your receipt? The attention is worth the extra cost. While you're there, walk across the street to the farmers market and grab a fresh, ripe cantaloupe. I don't go anywhere else because nothing is ever ready and ripe as it is here. Had a bad experience as well. Long story short I brought my son from across town. It took longer than anticipated but we got there 20 before closing. He ran my son out as I was waiting in the truck. He's walking out locking door. I walk over nicely and told him the story, asking if he'd let my boy look around for 10 min. He said only if you're going to buy something.
