Just got my haircut here by Nelson and i am satisfied! I moved to Boston 4 days ago and googled barbershops and this place came up so i gave it a shot because its right off the T stop. I liked the vibe and cleaniness overall of the shop and I asked for Nelson(owner) based purely off of the reviews online. He did a good job and was very detailed. I will be back faithfully twice per month. It also helped that i came in on a Monday which was pretty dead so any barber was available. Are you efing kidding me? The whole time I was getting my hair cut some old dude was high af on weed, standing next to my chair and just saying some disgusting jokes about women and race(bragging about how he had at least 50 "bitches" in his life and stuff like that, like, GET A LIFE?). The barber was careless and was very rough on his hands cutting the hair, He was stopping constantly to talk to that old dude who's high and laughing super loud just right in my face. The hair cut took double the time because he spent too much time chatting with his high "friend" and was not paying any attention to the hair cut he's cutting, which caused my fades to be RIDICULOUSLY uneven even after I asked him to fix it(you can see in the pictures). C'mon, I can cut my own hair better than this. 10/10 would not recommend this place and I've been here twice. Very unprofessional and RUDE to their customers. read more

Popped in on a Tuesday afternoon around 4 and the place was packed. One of the guys (Milq, I think, judging from reviews) greeted me by asking me to take a seat and somebody would be right with me. Before I could get my coat off, Pablo had cleared a chair and I sat down. Told him what I wanted and he delivered beautifully! Probably the most efficient cut I've ever gotten (to the point where I was worried how quickly he was moving at first), but I realized about halfway through that it was because he knew exactly what he was doing. At the same time, I didn't feel at all rushed and he took the time to shape with scissors, something I've always felt I wanted but never had done on hair this short. Somehow, I was in and out in under 30 mins with a clean fade. The ambiance was exactly what you want from a proper barber shop: warm and clean, with intense discussions about whether Welker would be a first or second ballot hall of famer on one side and jokes that I half understood in Spanish on the other. Was in town for the day and in desperate need of a haircut. Found Cut N Edge on Yelp. I called ahead to ask if I needed a reservation, but it wasn't necessary. Walked in and got a haircut from KNU. Not only did he give me a great haircut, but he gave me loads of tips on cool places to go around town. I read some reviews about it being loud and unprofessional. This place is just fun to hang out and all the guys just have a blast together. If you're looking for a boring clinical place, this is not it. I have tried many barber shops in the Boston area but none have deserved my loyalty the way Cut N Edge does. Why should one become loyal to any shop? Because of a great barber, someone you can count on to deliver the best "you" for an upcoming date, sales appointment, or job interview. The shop is filled with skilled barbers but Keith Gordon is my go to. He's timely and careful to deliver my cut based on my specifications. That's a feat as I can be picky. Another reason for loyalty is location and facility. This shop is literally across the street from the Mass. Ave. T stop (orange line). Easy to access and near other convenient retail and service spots. I would describe the barber shop as a lounge setting with great music playing along with sports and news channels displayed in HD. Cut N Edge is good. Barbers who know what they're doing. Been going there for a while and my barber knows my hair so I'm sticking to it unless I have no other choice. The service can be better though. The conversation can get a little weird , depends on who s working or the subject at the time. Don't even make an appointment because my appointments are never followed through. I'll make an appointment for 12 and I'll get in there at 12 but someone is sitting in my seat then I have to wait another 15-20 minutes.. Whats the whole point of making an appointment? But luckily there s another barbershop down the street that s a back up in case I'm in a hurry. Not a bad place , just needs to be a little more professional. read more

I just left and had the worst experience possible. The owner, Nelson, was very unwelcoming and didn't want to cut my hair because I'm a woman. He pretended that he was going to then when his customer showed up he said "I can't do anything with you now". I'm like you knew you had an appt? Then he told me to go to another chair. I went and I guess the guy didn't speak English. I had told him I wanted to face my boyfriend and he clearly doesn't understand English or can't hear because he spoke Spanish to Nelson and Nelson screamed at me and said "Now you want to wash your hair???!!!?!!!" I'm like what are you talking about? He was so rude and disgustingly uncouth. Every one in the shop was watching him and I told my bf, let's go. They don't deserve me or my money. I usually get my hair cut back home in Connecticut, but decided to switch it up and go in the city. Cut n edge has a very open feel barber shop, with 8+ barber chairs, a big screen tv, and music playing. I immediately got asked to sit down once I walked in by a barber named Milq. Yes, pronounced milk. This guy was very personable as he asked about me. I usually get a 2 on the sides and the back, trim the top with scissors and blend them together. For some reason I sat down and said I need a 1 on the sides and the back. I quickly found out that it's much shorter. I stopped him quickly and asked to taper it into a 2 instead of continuing with the 1. To my surprise Milq did an excellent job fixing my mistake and ended up getting one of the best haircuts I've gotten in a while. I give Cut N Edge an overall 4 out of 5. read more

Being the whitest of college kids, I wasn't sure what to think when walking into this place. However, the barbers here are very professional, the place is clean, and the atmosphere is pretty much just what you would want in a neighborhood barber shop. If it wasn't for my ability to cut my own hair, I'd definitely be a regular here. My best cuts have been with Milq (pronounced milk), but most of the guys here will take their time even if it's just a simple buzz cut. I've gone here twice. The first time was okay, got a decent haircut, but the barber cut too far above my forehead and there were a bunch of stray hairs in the front that I couldn't comb properly when they grew back because he'd cut them closer than the hair around it. Today I went again and waited about ten minutes, then had my hair cut by a barber who was very unprofessional. Hardly listened when he asked for what kind of haircut I wanted, then spoke loudly to the other barbers in Spanish throughout the course of the haircut and repeatedly stopped to look at pictures that another man was showing him on his phone. The television was also rather loud and the environment was unpleasant overall. The barber paid very little attention to cutting my hair and cut the side about half an inch too far up toward the front of my head in one small area, which I didn't notice until after I'd left but is virtually impossible to hide completely. Would not recommend this barbershop to anyone who wishes to get a quality haircut or have a pleasant experience. read more

There are many places you can get a haircut & what's impressive about Cut N Edge are its employees. They KNOW what's going to look good on you -when you personally ask them for a cut, shape up trim, line-up, block, fade, crop, and more to the extent of a barber shop. What can't be found at Cut N Edge is a customer who comes out looking worse than they entered. Here's my experience: I grew my hair out to where I could crop it. Later, my hair became unmanageable. Needing a new look & with 3 days off, I bravely went from shop to shop browsing for happy customers wearing more than just a smile, but a defined look stepping out of barber shops & salons. I found numerous places that glamoured with facility appearance and pricing, but their employees however couldn't do a fade, nor a skin fade. I found places that used all electric hair trimmers to places that catered to small snips here and there like a conveyor belt business I did not want my appearance left in the hands of anyone. I sought after skill. If a barber or stylist is really good, they would be able to do more than just a fade or a 'regular' w/ a #2 on the sides and maybe trim the bangs, but not too short. They, barber or stylist, would need to know how to offer a look that suits & what doesn't suit and tell that to the customer. I entered Cut N Edge with the same brave observation. I noticed the different styles of hair that we're being cut & styled, customers both men & women. I approached Milq & asked him to recommend a 'New Look'. He gave his recommendation after observing the shape of my head. Not only did he fade and trim, he lined, blocked, thinned and straight razored. He thoroughly washed my hair, then style without having to use much product. The result: LOOKS from EVERYWHERE! I couldn't spend a day without one person giving a kind & respectful remark. Cut N Edge is your average barber shop. But an average barber shop is the way to go if you are a guy looking for a simple cut. The atmosphere is great, you can tell there are a lot of regulars. As a Northeastern student, a place like this right by campus, with the student price ($15), is great. I love coming here because it's exactly what you'd hope for in a neighborhood barbershop: all the usual barbers chit chatting with all the usual clientele (I'm happy to say that I seem to have become a usual, walking into the place feels like I'm on 'Cheers' these days). The atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly, and I have been taken care of by Christmas, Nelson, and a few others, and all of them have done a stand up job. I've never been unhappy with their performance. I've been particularly happy with their beard trimming, I wish I could keep them in my medicine cabinet for every time I need a shave. read more

Cut N Edge is by far the most reasonably priced full service barber shop I've been to in Boston. I've now been coming here for my haircuts for about 6-7 years. Nelson, the owner, is my barber, though I'd trust my cuts to any of the other talented barbers there. Super chill vibe inside, not too noisy. Lots to keep you busy while waiting for your cut... biggest TVs I've ever seen on the walls, tasteful music over the pro audio system, or just good conversation with all the barbers. They have wifi (you need to ask for the password) if you have work to do while waiting and overall, the design of the shop is really nice. Brick walls, custom chairs and sofas...just really well done. A word of advice, call ahead to make an appointment (it's free) and you won't have to wait very long, if at all. The haircut will vary based on who you have cut your hair. I've had my hair cut multiple times there and my experiences have ranged greatly. Do NOT go to the man in the back with the suit/nice shirt if you're looking for a haircut other than a disconnected undercut. I've asked him multiple times to fade my hair starting with a 1 and ending with a 3 and he either did not understand or did not hear me the two times I've gotten it cut by him because he just used a number 1 on my sides and gave me an undercut, which is NOT what i asked for. Otherwise, all the other barbers are pretty capable of giving you the haircut you want and are pretty nice/sociable people. read more

Wow, I have lived in Boston for three years now and just found this place on Yelp. I have been looking for a barber who can do a proper fade for the past three years. Before moving to Boston I served 6 years active duty US Army and I know what a fade is supposed to look like. Enter KEITH G. This guy has been cutting hair for the past 20 years and does an awesome fade! Needless to say, Keith is now my new barber. The price is right, especially for the city of Boston where a haircut can easily exceed $30. Like other Yelpers have stated, this barber shop is straight out of the movie "Barbershop". Being a freshman at Northeastern, I was very skeptical about which barbershop to try for my first haircut. There are multiple barbers right on Huntington Ave that would have been closer, but I doubt that they would have managed the same expertise that I got at Cut N Edge. Being only about a half mile walk away from campus, the location was very easy to find and was very welcoming. The moment I walked in someone immediately said hello. Christmas took care of me today and he did an excellent job. I've had my hair cut at places where you sit in the chair for ten minutes and you're done. All of the barbers seemed to really want each person to have the best haircut possible. There are lots of regulars that keep coming in, and I am now a new addition. Another plus is that they are not very expensive. For the amount of time that was spent to cut my hair, the price was definitely extremely reasonable! read more

Be careful at this place. I called to set up an appointment, and was told over the phone to just come in. Some guy is standing on the curb outside the shop, I walk passed him, and am about to walk-in, and from behind me I hear "you wanna haircut?". No I want a foot massage that's why I'm walking into the barber shop. (I wasn't actually angry then, but now that I'm writing this, I'm less than impressed.) I turn around, say yes, reach out to shake the guy's hand and tell him my name. We walk into the shop and he sits me down in a chair. I realize that english isn't his first language, that's cool, but now I'm realizing that it's going to be a little tough to communicate. S'all good, I'm came prepared, it's a new barber shop for me so I figured: come ready to give them everything they need to hook you up right. So I pull out a couple pictures I had saved of what I'm looking for on my iPad. Dude takes issue with something I asked for and I figure, hey, you know what you can and can't do better than I do. So, I try to understand what he wants to do, ask him a question or two before I realize this guy and I, quite literally, aren't speaking the same language. But you know what? This place has awesome reviews on Yelp that say "These guys know what they're doing, they'll hook you up, I love this place, etc". So I just figure: hey I've shown this guy a few pictures which should be worth a thousand words, just trust the professional and let him do his thing. Five minuets later my man thinks he's done. I didn't ask for much more than a line-up, granted. I see the back and say 'hey wait can I take a look'. I take a look, and pull at some of the longer hairs in the back, and start to say something hoping he can clean that up, maybe take the back line up a half inch or give it a little taper... something. He starts shaking his head and tells me that my hair is too long. I'M AT THE BARBER SHOP FOOL THAT'S THE POINT! jeez. I'm giving this place two stars because I'm sure if your barber speaks the same language as you do, you can have a conversation about what you're looking for. At the end of the day, this industrious guy flagged me down before any other barber could get the chance for my business, like he was a private cab driver or a ticket scalper, he looks at a couple pictures, can't figure out what I want, takes 5 MINUTES to give me a mediocre line-up, and when I ask how much, he pauses for a breath like we're bartering in the street or something, and then says "$15". You want to know what? I'm not going to try to talk this guy down at a shop I've never been to with a room full of barbers and one other customer. In fact, since he was so focused on getting the most money for the least amount of time, I gave my hurried hustler of a barber a $3 tip, just to keep his mouth shut while I walked straight out the door. Went in for the first time just before a big work event and had a great experience. I'd been growing my beard out for weeks and wanted to get it professionally trimmed as well as get a great hair-cut. Lamont did both. He listened to what I wanted and was meticulous in getting it perfect. I walked out of their looking like a million bucks and couldn't have been happier. And to top it all off it only cost $20 for the cut and beard trim!!! I had to tip $10 I was so happy with the outcome. if you want your hair "cut N edged" like an old man military haircut without your consent, this is the place. Was too late once I felt the straight edge dig into my temples-- unevenly to boot, and actually left a scar on the right side, where the hair has still not grown back in several weeks on (the barber was distracted talking about boxing to another customer). This despite agreeing to a similar cut to the barber's, which was not edged in this bizarrely ugly fashion mirroring male pattern baldness. I know it's hard to find barbers in Boston with stylistic grace, but is this really a default style in Boston!? I won't make the mistake of straying from Razor's in Somerville again. read more
