    Tonkotsu ramen
    Ed H.

Place is a more than a bit sad and desolate and service is strained, but food is actually alright. Strip mall Ramen and Poke place that seems to have seen better days. Fountain soda machine is out of service. One side of the dining room was roped off. One TV was fairly loudly playing a Japanese TV channel but several others were off. There was only one worker during the dinner hour. As a result of the limited help, that worker needed to take orders, man the cash register, make the food, bring the food out and bus tables, clean, etc. There were only two other tables occupied when we went but service was overloaded. The worker needs to make each dish, one at a time and then bring them out. I can see if you are behind a few orders that the wait could be quite lengthy. And they charge a mandatory 15% tip for dining in when this is not a full service restaurant, due to "tough times." We ordered pork buns as a starter and I had a Tonkostsu ramen bowl. We waited at least fifteen to twenty minutes until the worker came over and I was surprised that he brought the Tonkotsu, not the pork buns starter. Frankly I wasn't expecting much given the general situation visible here, but the ramen was fairly decent. Not great but a fairly decent bowl, better than many I've had. It had a creamy tonkotsu broth with a slightly funky taste and an ok assortment of toppings including a few thin slices of braised chashu with a nice flavor, a half egg that could have been slightly more well done, bamboo shoots, scallions, some spinach (not nori) and some ok noodles. Then we waited about another 15 minutes before he brought out the pork buns and a Poke bowl. The pork buns were a bit different with a fairly thick piece of pork covered with barbecue sauce and carrot bits and some small crunchy bits. So-so on the pork buns. The Poke bowl was reported to be good. There are worse places, but would not go out of my way to come here.

    Miso with duck !

Im not really a ramen person so ordering was a bit of a challenge but with a little assistance I had an awesome bowl of Ramon with spicy miso soup, bamboo shoots and duck that was just awesome. The spicy miso was so tasty and the duck was delicious. They offer both takeout and a dinning room and we chose to dine in. The service was great with the good individually prepared so there was a bit of a wait. Highly recommend a visit!

    Shrimp Tempura Bowl

Shrimp Tempura Bowl My wife wanted to try something different for lunch (I love fast food) so we came here. Prices looked high ($16 for shrimp tempura bowl, $3.50 fountain drink) but we were the only ones in the restaurant so at least we could have a nice conversational lunch. Whoops! There is a $5.45 (15%) surcharge if you want the pleasure of wiping clean your own table and eating inside (I'm not kidding). The place was generally dirty, understaffed, and unkempt but at least the a/c wasn't freezing us out. It was very hard to like the place. In spite of all this, the food and my wife's company were excellent, hence the 3 stars. It didn't seem like a good value at all. We live locally but probably won't return.

Context; lived in Hawai'i for several years, and know my poke. Have eaten here nearly 3 times a week for the last few weeks. One miss in all that time. They forgot to put any sauce (shoyu) on one order. Let them know, and has been as amazing as the first and all other times. Ramen is Ramen, but its about the broth, really. Spicy Tonkatsu is phenomenal! Only issue might be the small amount of vegetables and pork for the price. ($14) Poke bowls are perfect and out of this world! Give them a shot, be patient while they continue to get things figured out. Love this place!!

Very friendly staff. Good ramen and poke bowls. Find the QR code on their menu to avoid the third party order system. I will eat here again.

    Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. Well made.

It's not worth the money you pay. There is hardly any food you get for the money you pay. i will not go back there.

While it accommodated us, our large party probably was a bit of a distraction for the other diners. Coincidently, during our visit, we ran into two families we knew from that area. Both raved about Tanpopo, and commented how they were regulars. After getting our food, it was easy to see why. Several people at our table had ramen, and one had the Pho. Everyone who had the ramen enjoyed it, but the person who had the Pho commented that the beef was a little bit tough. The rest of us shared several sushi rolls, and they were all amazing! The presentations were lovely, and everything was fresh with savory sauces and sides . They even brought out some matcha ice cream with a candle to help us celebrate our birthday boy. Kid chopsticks are available for purchase to use and take home, which definitely made our grandkids day! The salad with the yellow-colored dressing couldn't be explained except to say that it was "Japanese". The curry on the Chicken Curry Bowl was a very "hot" dish and I wouldn't order it again. The fried rice with chicken was almost flavorless unless you added a lot of Soy Sauce. The waitress needs more English language training on menu items or needs to bring in the owner to explain them. In general, the variety on the menu is interesting. The dishes just need more clarification for those who want to learn about oriental dishes.

I didn't get a good look at the interior because I was just picking up the food but there was plenty of parking and the individual I interacted with briefly was friendly and my order was accurate. I started with the gyoza. They were decent/average. I wasn't super blown away but they also weren't bad. I also ordered the Red Tonkatsu. It was kinda spicy which I wasn't mad about. The pork chasu had good flavor and texture. The noodles were a little thicker than I'm used to. The broth was heavy and rich. I've eaten a lot of ramen in KC and had several Ramen pop ups from Tokyo so I'm a little biased. This was definitely solid ramen but it wasn't the best I've ever had either. The price point is fairly cheap compared to KC prices so overall I was happy with my meal. I probably wouldn't seek it out if I'm back in the area, but if you live here, then definitely check it out because it was good and was a good value for the price.

I was here for a birthday dinner. We had a table that faced the window, so we had a great view of the lake. It was a Saturday, and they even had a guitarist playing music, which was a nice touch. We ordered the smash burger and the salmon. The meat in the burger was very tender and flavorful. It melts in your mouth. We chose the truffle fries with it and these complemented the burger nicely. I liked the fries more than the burger. The salmon came with crispy skin on top, which is my favorite part of salmon. The best part of that dish was the crispy roasted brussels sprouts, probably the best I ever had! So rich and savory! They made my partner's birthday special with a dessert on the house. We shared a rumchata bread pudding, which was sweet but not overpowering. They even wrote "happy birthday" in chocolate and gave him a handwritten card. They really went above and beyond. For drinks, we both got the a gin-based cocktail called 'dress to empress' which had tasty lychee infused syrup and lime juice. Very refreshing. We also shared the brussel sprouts app and oh my gooooodness I could order that 10x over. Not to mention the portion was massive. It had big pieces of shaved parmesan, a honey aioli and some kind of chili oil. So darn good. I went with the salmon entree. Loved the fingerling potatoes and other accoutrements that came along with it. The salmon itself was A-OK. Like good but I've definitely had better. But there was the slightest bit of fishy-ness to it. Overall, wonderful experience. Would return no doubt.
