I love my hair cut and that my hair is red. I am a little disappointed that I was unable to get the color red that I wanted and was more leaned towards the color that the hair stylist was able to do. I really think that if she was unable to do the color that I showed her and wanted I should have been recommended to make an appointment with another hair stylist. When making an appointment over the phone maybe ask more detailed questions of what the client wants to be 100% sure they get what they want. read more

I've been going to this salon since I moved to Goleta about a year and a half ago. Somehow I ended up with Nicole who has been somewhat nice, but often unavailable. Recently, I needed a quick color appt. for an event. Nicole was on vacation so I ended up with Amanda. My hair looked nice, but two hours later bloody scabs started popping up all over my scalp. The back of my ears and hairline were on fire. I waited a few days and then called the salon. I left a message for Nicole for suggestions. Five days later, she hasn't called me back. I paid $180 for this misery. Two weeks later I'm still itching like crazy. Calling the dermatologist Monday. I will never go back to this salon. read more

I received a bayalage and haircut and was left disappointed. It's been about 6 months now so I've had time to process and attempt to like my new hair but it hasn't happened. My bayalage looked more like a brassy ombré. My hair cut was left super short and choppy that I still can't style it and wear it down. The choppy layers I received don't even blend in well together. Overall these past few months have been super hard for me as I haven't been able to wear my hair down bc it looks terrible. I knew something was wrong when the stylist kept snipping away with her scissors, I should have stopped her since I noticed she was cutting way too much but I didn't and that's my mistake. I feel like the stylist did what she wanted to do and disregarded what I had asked for. In total I paid $350 for haircut and "bayalage" and it was not worth it. I've gotten my hair done at other salons and I've never had to pay this much. I won't say the name of the stylist bc once it's out on the web it's out there forever and I don't believe in tarnishing someone's name like that online. I'm working with a new stylist at a different salon and slowly we are trying to fix my awful haircut, but unfortunately it takes time to grow out choppy layers. Fixing brassy color is thankfully easier but what's the point if you can't even wear your hair down. read more

I starting coming to Cutting Edge on the recommendation of a client. I've been about 4 times now, always see Steffani and always have a good experience. Staff is always friendly and accommodating, the whole salon is meticulously clean, and my haircuts and color are always done well. Prices are reasonable given the SB area. Appointments are easy to come by. Location convenient. I have no reason to go elsewhere and if you're looking for a new place to "get your hair did" I'd strongly recommend them, and Steffani in particular. After finally deciding to cut my mermaid long hair, it took me quite a while to actually decide where I was getting my hair cut and with whom (trust me I spent hours deciding, calling people, checking yelp, and asking alumni friends)? I have been going here for a few years and the salon is a comfortable and neighborhood friendly atmosphere. I've had two different stylists on my hair and have not had a bad experience with either of them. If you are looking for a designer high end expensive salon with those same results this is not your place. I came in last weekend for a haircut and some waxing services and I could not be happier. Devyn cut my hair and quickly took me from a grown out, no real style look to cute and manageable. I had a color service last week that just wasn't what I wanted. I asked for a copper/orange, and I left blonde. I was really unhappy with it, and I foolishly applied a color conditioner over it, thinking that would give me the color I wanted -- But it made it worse. I reached out to the salon to let them know that I was unhappy with my initial service, and the owner replied and offered to fix the issue for free. I went to April the second time, and she was amazing!! I can't recommend her enough! she was able to reverse the damage from my color conditioner, fix my roots, and give me what I originally wanted. All at no extra cost. I was really upset after my first service, but I'm so pleased that Cutting Edge made it right. I will come back to April, no doubt! Thank you! read more

I went in for a really simple layered/angled cut. I wish I could remember the girls name who was cutting my hair because maybe she was just one bad stylist. The front came out uneven and now I feel I have to pin back the front everyday until it grows out more. I could kind of tell while she was cutting my hair that she wasn't doing it how every other hairstylist I've been to does it. If you do go here be sure to speak up if it seems your stylist doesn't know what she's doing. read more

Based on one of the earlier reviews here, I went and got a hair cut here from Lana. Maybe I just caught her on a bad day, but I did not like how it went. She was pretty rough with my hair while washing it, and pulled it really hard when she wrapped it in a towel after washing. I literally had a couple of tears in my eyes from that. She really seemed to be preoccupied and not paying attention to what she was doing, either. I also had the hair flipped into my face pretty hard (almost slapping) several times while she was cutting my hair, and she seemed more interested in cutting it how she wanted to cut it instead of going with what I wanted ... I asked her to change something and she didn't want to do it, which was kind of annoying. The resulting haircut was just so-so ... she seems to rely much too heavily on using product to shape the hair so I'd look good as I walked out of the salon, instead of cutting my hair so that it would just naturally fall that way. I've gotten better much cuts for ~$25, (compared to $40). Hence the rating: 3 stars = A-OK. Not terrible, but certainly not great. I've heard good things about some of the other people at this salon, though, from my officemate. I will probably give her stylist a try next (the salon overall seemed pretty nice). If that doesn't go well, I will look for another salon. read more

She put me at such ease I had to fight the urge to nap while she worked. I definitely recommend this salon. April does such a great job with my hair, for haircuts, styling and also recently I decided to lighten my hair. Went here a while back to get all my hair chopped off, and going from long hair to chin length hair was scary but she did such an amazing job. I had to come back when I decided to go blonde, which was no small feat considering my hair was very dark brown! She listened to what I wanted, made suggestions for how to achieve that, helped me stay realistic in my blonde ambition, and was very honest about how each process would turn out.
