The store gets 2 stars overall, because it is neat and clean, and the folks in general are quite friendly. That part should get three stars -- A-OK. But, to me, the most important function is at the back, in the pharmacy.... that drags the rating down. The pharmacy is the WORST... except for the Walgreens on Soquel Ave, which is MUCH worse, way slower, etc. -- or, at least, it was, some years back. I haven't had the stomach to go back there. At this CVS, I have had my dr.'s office fax in prescriptions, and they have not only gotten them wrong, they have entered them in MULTIPLE in the computer, and in various stages of incomplete and incorrect -- wrong instructions, wrong dosage, etc. I was able to see it via the web site access. I printed it out, and still have that printout, it was so beyond the pale that anything could get THAT messed up. On other occasions, the prescriptions have not been on time, even giving them an extra 8 hours from the promised/scheduled time given by the computer. They explained that their pharmacy had undergone several personnel shifts all at once, but come on, isn't there a way to adjust for that in your production rate? so you can at least give people a reasonable ETA? Folks don't mind having it delayed if they know when it will be ready and only have to stand in line to pick it up. To have to wait, then learn its not ready, and you have to go kill 15-20 minutes to have them expedite the fill.... that gets old after three or four repeats. That's what was happening for at least a month or more, and they just couldn't seem to get a handle on it. It's finally improved, after quite a period of being pretty awful with the not-yet-ready situation, so I have to give them credit for that. But, there are other, deeper issues, like incompetence at the supervisory level. One time, when I asked the pharmacist about a problem filling the prescription, she gave me THREE different excuses, all of them just "made up" and definitely not the actual problem (because she didn't bother looking in the computer's audit trail records, and those supposed scenarios could not have possibly happened), and when I told her she wasn't actually answering my question, and merely speculating, she said "well, you can talk to Brigitte our manager then...". On a different occasion, this same pharmacist was asked about the rules regarding new medicine consultations, and she said "You know, I just can't remember, what's the actual law, and what's the store policy!" This is a LICENSED pharmacist! She is nominally in charge of everything that happens in the pharmacy with regards to dispensing of drugs, while she is the pharmacist on duty. Seriously. Messed. Up. I can understand corporate doesn't give you enough people, or the people are poorly trained, but not knowing the legal requirements of your own licensed profession? That's not ok. They have recurring professional education for that. On another occasion, I was picking up an Rx. A tech who was definitely from Central or South America, and not a strong English speaker, couldn't find my Rx. I waited in line to talk with the pharmacist for an extra 15 minutes, to find out what went wrong. It was there the whole time. The tech couldn't spell my name! They just need the first three letters of the first name and the last name, plus the birth date, to find your Rx in their system. She couldn't even do that! It's fine to have ESL workers, but don't put them in positions where their lack of familiarity seriously hampers their effectiveness! Or, at least coach them to ask to spell the name. I wonder how many others had this same frustration with her, because she was too proud? afraid? to ask for name spelling? This was not her fault; it was a failure to properly supervise. CVS has been taken to task by the DEA, because a pharmacy employee in a Sacramento store admitted to stealing 20,000 Vicodin, I believe it was back in March of 2014. How did they not notice, until the DEA performed an audit? They are also being sued for millions for various irregularities in filling Rx's for Medicare patients. Millions. Clearly, the pharmacy staff isn't well trained enough, and their procedures just aren't tight enough. Not my opinion -- these are realities, as reported in the news after DEA investigations uncovered massive failures to account for controlled substances. I hope they get their act together. There are few alternatives in a town dominated by the 2 big chain pharmacies, both of which have recently been the subject of some harsh criticism and even severe sanctioning by the DEA. read more

i've hung in there for years but I am finally done. The lack of communication, the inaccuracies, the AI getting worse and worse, bothering my over and over again with the same prescription problems, and all the stressed out employees who have to listen to all the complaints of the customers because of the corporate decisions to save money instead of giving good service. I've been on my same medication for well over 7 years not only has 1 pharmacist changed my medication amount yes I have the screenshots and contacted corporate and she was fired but now new guy here balding younger guy now thinks is acceptable to treat me like some pill popping abuser but told me I have to wait an hour to get my medicine I'm the only person waiting ! I came here the day before to pick up my high blood pressure medicine and I was told it would be ready for pick up today. Regarding the pharmacy only, I wish I had better things to say. I had ONE person helping me out at first who was excellent. She had to expedite one of my 3 prescriptions (the other 2 were ready) so I went outside and killed 20-30 minutes. When I returned, she stepped up to help me but she was summoned away and after that, everyone who stepped in was clueless and unhelpful, including the pharmacist herself, who was very "crisp" with me. When I asked a final question at the counter (yet another problem cropped up), I had at least 6 pairs of eyes staring at me like I was the number one troublemaker of the day. This is the most frustrating part of these type interactions: a simple answer seems so impossible to get when faced with this bureaucratic mindset that we regular folks can't seem to escape. read more

I walk in and directly get the stink eye- no greeting . Okay fine. It's retail, I get it. Conduct my business in the pharmacy. The tech has to wander around lost looking for prescriptions in four or five different places and has to check multiple times. Finally finds one then the other then the other. Took 8 minutes to simply find things they told us were ready. Fine. You're busy, I get it. I go to the front of the store and have to "wait" for someone to get locked up batteries for me. I get ignored. I step in line, stand there through two customers, allow the elderly lady nearest the opening register to go because that's the kind thing to do, then a customer walks up with a return, half way done with that transaction, another 8+ minutes total while the check out woman knows I am standing there, she closes her register again, fully aware I was waiting and allowed the elderly lady to go to the open lane. I was the only person standing there. "I'm closed" and made me go to another lady's line. No kindness, no sorry I'm over time, nothing- just nasty "I'm closed". Both of these women are absolutely miserable and taking it out on the customers at this location tonight. No apology for the other persons behavior when I asked why it was acceptable, no thank you for shopping at the end of my business. I am absolutely disgusted my elderly parents use your location- we will be changing immediately if this is your customer service! How are you treating them?'!? RUDE! RUDE! RUDE!!!!!!! In an attempt to describe a problem and request a renewal for a prescription that is due, I was cut off in mid-sentence over and over again. For months now, their restroom has been out of order and I was asked to leave the premises even though I am a regular customer. Funny... I see employees using the restrooms, but they are out of water if a customer needs one. I was home to use the grocery store nearby. Their online prescription service is the worst. The list of my prescriptions is incomplete, does not allow the functions that I am looking for. There are not enough starts to rate this pharmacy. They are awesome. They fill prescriptions, finding the best price, are courteous and kind. I watched as they went out of their way to help a man with two badly burned hands get his pain pills economically. They found the best price for my medication. It is fun to go in there. One man even showed up in a cat in the hat outfit. I have only had one experience at the CVS pharmacy on 41st and they were also quite good. read more

Cashiers and management are not friendly Manager seems too stressed out and I was confronted inappropriately with aggressive interaction today after picking up a prescription I was waiting to use the restroom when I asked the pharmacy to unlock the door. Last time the pharmacy cashier had to come out from behind the counter to let me in the locked restroom door . I was standing there waiting and saw the manager come from the back part me. I thought she if all people would have a bathroom key and I was trying to keep the cashier from the pharmacy to not leave her post . As I asked the manager politely if she might have a key . She was just to aggressive in her answer and I felt very uncomfortable to stay in the store. It's too bad that she is that stressed and I have heard many complaints about her interactions with staff. I went there at night and another patron challenged me to fight inside of the store. I requested the staff to call the police and they refused. The patron that threatened me said he would be waiting for me outside. This was totally unprovoked and staff should have contacted police while this occurred in front of them at their cash register. We made the mistake of shopping here last Thursday, never again! When we went to pay for our purchases there were no registers open only the self check. The poor clerk at the self check was trying to explain to another customer how to use it and would assist us in using it next. This is very poor management to not have at least one register open as I along with many other customers will not use the self check. If I wanted no customer service I would buy from Amazon on line and not make a drive to the store. CVS did not have poor service they had NO SERVICE. This is the CVS (formerly Longs Drugs) by Nob Hill in Capitola (Bay avenue). It's an adequate drug store with a decent range of general retail stuff including hair products/soaps/dental/medical/etc. What gives this store a 1-star rating in my book is the pharmacy. Seriously, if you have a choice choose to get your drugs somewhere else. It's close to my house so I consistently "give it another chance" and am disappointed. I can't recall the number of times I've been called to tell me a prescription is ready only to reach the store and have to wait (just 10 minutes = about an hour in reality). They also have regular inability to get various medications from their suppliers (while the other CVS and a nearby Wallgreens have no such issues). Also, this terrible store has incredible staff turnover -- always getting a new, inexperience person working the counter. Every visit turns into an hour or more of frustration and waiting. I drove 20 minutes to the Capitola CVS pharmacy because the service of the CVS pharmacy in Scotts Valley is horrible! My time and effort was definitely worth it. The staff at Bay Avenue CVS is very friendly and Sabrina, the technician, went above and beyond to help me with my RX. The pharmacist (male) was also very nice. As all the CVS pharmacies, Bay Avenue is super busy; however, they work efficiently and treat people with respect and care. From now on, I will be driving to Capitola to buy my RXs! On a Sunday night before 6 pm I went to CVS on Bay Ave in Capitols to request a prescription refill. There was no line and I was the only person who waited patiently for about a few minutes. The store was quiet and with not many shoppers. When both customers left at the same time I went to the pharmacist . I was telling the pharmacist what I needed when his aide interrupted and said the pharmacy was closed and told me come back tomorrow. She so adamant not to service me she turned the register display towards me to show me the time, 6:00 pm, I could tell the pharmacist was taken back by having the aide rudely taking over the conversation about that the pharmacy is closed. She blew the Customer Service aspect of the job. Please do not get your medications from this pharmacy. The first time I went, it was humiliating standing in line, standing in line again, standing in line and waiting for them to check on something. This was when my doctor's office had faxed them my prescriptions and my insurance information. I forgave this and went back a second time. I called my refill in 2 days prior to pick up to arrive there at 10am to be told that it would not be ready until 3pm. Also, there are the most tedious lines at the front. I would have given this no stars but they do keep this place very clean, there are good deals on occasion and the staff is friendly. Unfortunately, CVS has taken over Longs and everything has gone downhill. Service, products, the pharmacy.... i hate going here now! My biggest peeve with CVS is that you have to have a card to get sale prices. Also, the range of products they have has diminished greatly. For the sake of example, I went to pick up a box of Q-Tips. First of all, they were nearly impossible to find. Once I found them in some obscure corner, I found that they only have 1 type of Q-Tip brand q-tip...the rest were CVS brand. The only type of Q-tip they had was the antibacterial kind, which I didnt need, but bought anyways because generic q-tips suck. I've noticed this CVS brand trend with almost every product. I don't like being forced to buy the store brand because there are no other options. I miss Longs! read more
