I am so happy to have Horsnyders in this county. The staff is TOP KNOTCH - they are so knowledgeable & helpful. I went in yesterday to get a brace for my elderly father - I am SO grateful for Annah and Vicki - my goodness! They did so much to make sure it was going to work out right for my dad. I feel I should update my review because I was in a lot of pain when I wrote the original (though I maintain that I was in pain on account of Horsnyder's policies.) First, they get a star for being the only locally owned pharmacy near me. There's simply no way I'm going to target or walgreeens, so Horsnyder's is where I'm at, like it or not. I'll give another star because the pharmacist personally intervened in my case and helped make sure I would be able to get my doses on time. I still think this special treatment shouldn't be necessary and recognize it's not the same service others are getting. The thing that really makes me mad is the way they invalidate prescriptions after 1 year with no warning whatsoever. It doesn't matter if your bottle reads "10 of 12 refills remaining," if the prescription is more than a year old they will cancel it and not tell you. When I complained about this, they told me I should track it on my end and simply note when I make my annual doctor visit. I feel a good pharmacy would track that themselves, and warn you that a prescription renewal was imminent so that you don't miss doses. In many ways I feel this is a pharmacy not well set up for sick people. I don't go to the doctor annually; I'm constantly in and out of there. I have 4 prescriptions at Horsnyders that I need to constantly babysit to make sure they don't run out or expire. It still feels like I'm having to put in way too much work to be one of their customers. Please, Horsnyders, figure out how to track when these prescriptions are expiring so that your sick patients are not missing doses. read more

This place has been a standard in the Santa Cruz area for a long time. I know they have delivery but have not used that service. They also have a numerous and various hospital and medical related supplies. They definitely know what they're doing. They're very customer oriented and knowledgeable. I have been going to see specifically Mary for sometime now. She specializes in women's health care etc. Super knowledgeable and supportive. I just love her and wouldn't go to anyone else. read more

This is the worst pharmacy ever. This is the only local one that offers the prescription that is needed. They kept giving the runaround about what paperwork is needed and not. Said I can wait hours, days, or week before being proceeded. When I got there the 3 ladies working there were not attentive to the window instead asking about "what dip they are going to make and if to make dile dip instead". I navigated between urgent care and this pharmacy to get what is needed. Urgent care even called to follow up. Sherri being rude as ever stating they'll deal with it whenever they can? Doesn't seem like they have any empathy for others. I don't know if this was because I was Hispanic and very ill but this place is the most unwelcoming environment ever read more

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They're not just pill pushers or pill counters. They care about their customers and their patients. They take their jobs very seriously. At times there's a long wait to check out, but that's because the attendant is reviewing directions for someone Who is buying something medical. It's good to be patient when you go in there, but just know that you will be getting excellent service and fine products. read more

A warning to any other trans person attempting to use this pharmacy. I went to pick up my prescribed testosterone twice, and each time received 2 1mL vials for the month. My dosage is .5 mL a week. Each time I brought up with the pharmacist that my prescribed dosage includes 4 vials a month. They pushed back on me, saying I could take 2 doses from each vial. I spoke to my doctor, who confirmed that I should receive 4 vials a month, and that reusing the same vial is a sterility concern for injection medication. This morning I called Horsnyder's with this information and once again requested that I receive not just my full month's dosage for this month, but that I also receive the 4 vials (a full month's medication) that Horsnyder's has withheld from me against my doctor's prescription. I was told there is nothing that can be changed about this because "they don't do that", which sounds pretty transparent to me that it is not an official policy, but one either rooted in ignorance or bias. It is flatly unacceptable that a pharmacy only dispense half the medication ordered, let alone that they defend this on three separate occasions as "we don't do that", with no further information. I am now out a full month of medication that I paid for because of this pharmacy choosing repeatedly not to prescribe my full dosages of medication. I have been pleasantly surprised by the friendly air of this pharmacy in the past, and intentionally try to support small businesses. But I will have to move my medications elsewhere and stop patronizing this business if they flatly refuse, with no actual stated reason, to provide half of my medication as prescribed. EDIT: I just called back and asked if there was any way I would receive the entire month's dose of my medication that was withheld from me, against my prescription, as confirmed with a doctor. The man on the phone tried to send me once again to the woman who told me, "we don't do that", saying it was a "store policy". I replied that there was no policy mentioned. He continued to try to speak over me until I interrupted with, "am I going to get the 4 bottles of medication I was prescribed that you withheld from me?" and he replied, "No." I am out a month's dose of medication, that I paid for, because this pharmacy refuses to dispense medications as prescribed. read more

Very nice staff, and I always try to trade with local merchants. My normal copay for prescriptions is $10., but Horsnyder increased my copay to $25. I called my insurance and they recommended that I switch to another pharmacy like Costco where I can get my prescription filled for $10. I use the prescription twice a month, so two 15 day supply would cost me an additional $30. per month. I'm disappointed that Horsnyder is jacking up the rates, so I'll have to stop doing business with a small outfit that I wanted to support. When I was leaving, a very nice woman came out and explained that it depends on their cost and that I could call three days prior to pick up to see what the copay would be. And while I appreciate her explanation, it's just easier to go to a big box store. read more

Great experience calling ahead, asking about 16" wheelchair cushions - talked with someone who said just come on over. Three different types (at least) of Nova cushions for the most narrow wheelchair and I was able to get one that worked well. Did not ask for or need help; the woman behind the register was very nice and explained the return policy. Was in and out in less than 5 minutes with the solution to the problem! read more

So disappointing. I chose Horsnyders because I want to keep my money with local businesses. I got out of surgery today at 9 am. Finally at 5 pm got my script filled. Apparently some of the clerks got upset with my 2 year old daughter who lost patience whilst my wife and she had to wait 20 more minutes to get the script filled. Cannot recommend. Our vet called in a prescription and they didn't fill it and couldn't find it in the system. Couldn't even find my wife or I in the system even though we are existing customers, so it seems their system is broken. Instead of trying to find a solution they just stared at us and made it clear it was closing time so we went the night without our dog's medicine. Called the vet who confirmed they were having trouble communicating with the people at the pharmacy and asked if we could recommend new pharmacy. I have absolutely no idea how someone could give this place anything short of five stars. First the back story to the reasoning for my visit. I tore a ligament in my foot and was told by my doctor to not put weight on my foot for the next three weeks. Crutches are horribly annoying to juggle around and my work place involves me moving around freely and utilizing both of my hands. So I looked into ordering a manual knee scooter, so that way I didn't have to take off of work. I looked all over the place to find one to order from Amazon, Walmart, target. Etc. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, all retailers are dealing with a shortage of staff, as well are all parcel services to make the deliveries. Anyway, it would have been almost a week to get one and I just got back to work after having been closed for 7 months, also due to the pandemic. So I really can't afford to take any time at all off of work. I kept looking around, I went to a CVS and the cashier recommended Horsnyder to me. I'll start with what lead to my initial first visit. I called them up and they not only had them in stock, they offer a rental program so I don't have to pay the full price of a new scooter I walk in and am immediate greeted by two staff members who directed me to the rental area. The woman who helped me directly was super nice, told me that I could even use my insurance to cover partial cost of my rental. She fitted me for the scooter and sent me on my way after making sure I could make it around the store with no issues. Fast forward two weeks later, I went in to return the scooter and look for a brace to help me walk around now that I'm comfortable to put weight on it. The woman that helped me this visit was named Vicky (might have spelled that wrong) But she not only directed me where the braces were, she broke out a measuring tape and grabbed a few different types for me to try on. Then afterwords I watched her sanitize the ones I tried on and set them to the side to dry off. Not only did this establishment take the pandemic seriously and practiced proper sanitation protocols, they were extremely polite and very helpful during each of my visits there. I was pretty shocked today to see two employees of a PHARMACY not wearing their mask properly. One was behind the glass where they fill medication and one was in the medical supply corner. Both had their masks below their noses the entire duration I was there. We walked into Horsnyders and right away Vicki asked what were were looking for. We said blood pressure monitors and she leaded is directly to them. We wanted to replace an old one that we had for over 20 years and wasn't sure what we wanted. She came over in less than a minute and started explaining every single one on the shelf and how to use them. After a few minutes we knew exactly what we wanted. We took it home and it is perfect for our needs We just want to say that she was so knowledgeable and friendly and gave us the best choice for our needs and pocket book. Terrible! The worst, a bunch of Karen's that will make your experience as difficult as possibl. They told me 35-40 min, I drove around to wait( getting me stuck on the opposite side of town at traffic hour with a painful wisdom tooth extraction site) then they called my doctor got my script cancelled because I had gotten a pain med filled earlier before for the original extraction. This script was for the infection, it was 8-5mg hydracodone, and a z-pack. She went through the trouble of getting my pain meds cancelled but couldn't call me who was driving around waiting on nothin because the z-pack was ready when I went in the first time, and the painkillers were now cancelled. Not only that but she said out loud and pointed at me as if catching me something said you already had pain meds filled! Yes two weeks ago at the extraction time, so I go to call my doctor mostly because I was so offbeat how she acted as if she caught me in some grand scam but low and behold 4:59 doctors office closed! I would have just took the z pac and left rather than be stuck in traffic and wait 45 min first. No phone call to me but all that she went through to get my script cancelled leaving me waiting for no reason. I wanted to switch my whole family here to support a local busines, now I know why so many choose other wise. A she and awful experience on a day I was already having a hard time. read more

Let me talk you through my experience with horsnyder. 10:30, I call my prescription in, they say they'll call me in about an hour when it's ready. 2 pm, still no call. I go in, they say they haven't even started. Now this would be okay if it had only happened to me once or twice, but no joke it's been every single time. This is just ONE issue I run into on a daily basis at Horsynder. My medication is not something that I can just go with out. I really hope the team can figure out what the source of these issues are. I want to shop locally and despise corporate pharmacies. Hard for me to get there, because I work over the hill. Got there 1740 a couple of weeks ago. They wouldn't fill all my prescriptions, said I had to choose 1. I asked if they could mail them and they said for $3. Two weeks later, no meds arrived. Horsnyder has an excellent selection of medical supplies. Not just excellent, the selection is insanely extensive. They not only have a bajillion braces for every part of your body but they also carry them in every size (I saw the range from Small to XXX Large). I went looking for a knee brace and found this wall of support chock full of various knee braces from those little patella ring thingers to full on leg immobilizer deals, all depending on how much support you will need. It may have been because I came at the end of the day but everyone that worked there seemed pretty worked over. I imagine they deal with crabby sick people all day and it can take a toll. I plan to come back should I ever need anything out of the ordinary and will stick to rite aid for things like soap. After coming back today to exchange my knee brace (it was a size too big) I had to update this review. I went to the counter to exchange and was told I should speak to one of the fitting people. A woman by the name of Janet let me try on a few different braces until we found the perfect one for me. So great! :) read more
