I drive out of my way to go to this CVS location because the customer service at the one closest to me is undesirable at best. Everyone there is nice and helpful and the checkout people are very helpful with difficult transactions, I prefer to be helped by Grace every time. I love this pharmacy. I'm sad to see that many other people haven't had such great service. I have three kids and the fact that the pharmacy is open 24 hours is a wonderful bonus for us especially since it's central to children's hospital, where we live and where the grandparents live. It' s extremely convenient for us. The pharmacy tech's and CVS staff have never been a problem for us and we've been going there for several years since before it even became a CVS. My only issue is that sometimes the wait is long for pick up sometimes because they are understaffed at night. They've always been incredibly helpful and willing to explain the medications to us and check for any complications / risks and drug interactions which is something we are always worried about with the kids. read more

I've had so many bad experiences with this pharmacy. They are no longer 24 hours and did nothing to notify customers when they switched so that month I found myself unable to get necessary medications which made me very sick. The latest problem seems to be their phone system has not been working for the past two days. So it's impossible to reach anyone in the store or request a refill without physically going to the pharmacy. As other reviewers have said that usually is a good 2 hour wait. So much frustration with this place once I see my doctors and get new written copies of my prescriptions I think I'm finally finished here. read more

My doctor sent my prescription over on a Wednesday and since it was my first time going through this pharmacy, I called to make sure that it would be filled in a timely manner. The technician on the phone stated, "It will be ordered and ready for pickup on Friday." I was pleased with the two day turn around, as that is about the time it takes to have my medication ordered. When Friday morning came, I received a phone call stating that my medicine couldn't be refilled yet due to the duration of time that had passed since my last medicine refill (this is completely inaccurate btw) as I usually pick up my meds with plenty of days worth of medicine leftover. I tried calling and was kept on hold so I decided to figure out the situation in person. Upon arriving, I was never greeted or addressed. I did notice that they just had received a delivery of medicine as most of their team was working on breaking down their Friday delivery. When I was able to speak to one of the technicians, I was told "Your medicine won't be in until Monday." At that point it was very apparent my medicine had never been ordered (even though on Wednesday one of their technicians said that it would be) and they tried to cover up their mistake by having their automated message call instead with false claims about it being a date of the refill issue. I then was directed to speak to the person in charge, I believe Benjamin. I told him that this situation was completely unprofessional and very serious. I followed by asking him about another solution to remedy this error. I was directed to drive to North County (about a 45min drive) from their location, as they will be able to assist up there with my medicine!! That solution doesn't even sound logical to me but I guess some places still need to work on customer service. I ended up leaving and calling my Doctor's office and with a few calls, I was able to find a reliable pharmacy and my medicine was available that very day. The entire experience with the team here was an absolute nightmare and I won't be returning. The lack of professionalism is at an all time high and I could of only imagined had it been some child's seizure medicine, or an elders heart medicine, they could be putting people at serious risk. I would recommend doing your research and finding a reliable pharmacy who takes their customers needs into consideration and not just settling due to proximity. Worst pharmacy ever. They close at 8 pm, so I made a mad dash to get there after work. Upon entering and waiting in line at 7:50, I ended up not getting my medicine because there was something wrong with the insurance, but I DID get a nice lecture from the lady who worked there. "Why are you coming in now? We close at 8! Why weren't you here earlier?" "I just got off work. I'm here now because I couldn't be here earlier." "Well, are you having an allergy attack now? Are you seriously ill?" "...Do I need to be in order to pick up my medication?" "Well, we can't process your information, so come back tomorrow morning." As I turned to leave, some crazy girl comes running in and starts shouting at the lady about how she's been waiting an hour to get her medication...so I guess I'm not alone in my frustrations with this location. read more

The CVS chain is perhaps the worst of all the chain store pharmacies littering America and systematically destroying the customer service ethos the old mom-and-pop pharmacies had. So giving this particular CVS one star seems pointless. And yet the glum, inattentive staff, the ugly, badly lit interior, and the disorganized shelves filled with shoddy goods seem to cry out, "Are we not the worst among the truly awful?" This is a Great store to visit! There staff is always smiling and willing to help everyone going through those doors. They even walk me too my items when I can't find it! I had an amazing experience, they had every thing on my list. One of the employees even went to the backroom to grab it for me! I have never had such great service. CVS Pharmacy to the rescue on Labor Day. So often there is a glitch between the doctor and having the medication in your purse. Not a hitch this time. CVS came through. On a holiday, the doctor on call phoned in a prescription before the pharmacy opened and left it on voice mail. They opened, they got it and were preparing the order when I called 30 minutes after opening. They said they'd text when it was ready. They did. It was there to pick up- no problem. Within an hour. Sounds simple, but we all know this is not always the case. They saved my weekend. read more

Two really frustrating experiences in less than two weeks. I picked up one of those cards for a medication that they don't keep out with the other OTC meds and stood in the line for Pick-Up for about 15 minutes (more on long waits later). It turns out I needed to take that to the Drop-Off counter instead, so that meant another 10 minutes in that line. So would it be hard to clearly spell that out somewhere, such as special sign located both at the spot where the cards are, and at the Pick-Up area? When I suggested that, I got the usual "I'm sorry you had to wait". But they aren't sorry enough with YOUR time, because they don't do anything about it. Next time I was in, I was picking up a medication. Their automated reminder phone call was sent, and indicated that I should bring new insurance info with me because my insurance had changed. So guess what? I stood in the Pick-Up line again, only to find that I was supposed to go to the Drop-Off, because they ONLY update your insurance at that station. Again, would it be so difficult to either a) make that clear on their phone reminder recording, or b) have a sign that clearly indicates that? This meant another 25 minutes out of my day that otherwise would not have been necessary. And their attitude is one of complete indifference, as if they don't really care about customer service. And I pointed that out, and of course their response was: "We really try to provide the best service for our customers." The person who waited on me seemed to assume that people should know what line they should be in. I couldn't get through to her that I was telling her what they needed to improve on. It was as if she thought I was dense. In general, I have found their service here to be glacially slow. There's at least 10 people working back there, and almost all of them don't seem that busy. I had often seen several of them conferring about something -- how many of them must it take to deal with a single problem? On this last (and I do mean final) visit, the woman in front of me was picking up her meds, and the server spent an incredibly long time searching for it. She went away, couldn't find it, asked someone else, came back and conferred with the customer, went away searching again, and finally came up with the meds. I overheard the server tell her, "someone put it where they shouldn't have." I didn't hear an apology. This tells you a lot about how competent they are. This place is a Kafkaesque nightmare. read more

First off, we don't use their pharmacy. A lot of reviews here say the pharmacy blows and that may very well be the case, however the store and associates are awesome! We always receive excellent customer service from the staff here and if you're not, maybe it's a personal issue. They greet you when you walk in and immediately offer to help you find whatever you're looking for; I haven't really experienced that at any other major retailer. Don't let the pharmacy keep you away from the main store and consider who they have to deal with on a daily basis before you judge; entitled millennials needing their Prozac or the geriatric demanding their heart pills, it's a tough job! read more

I dropped off my prescription. Two weeks went by and never got a call from them. I called to check and was put on hold for about 10 minutes. Hung up and decided to find out in-person what was taking too long to fill my rx. I had to speak with two people just to find out they lost my rx. Again, I gave my info expecting a call once my rx was ready. Two days passed, and again, no call from CVS Balboa. Again stopped by to check just to find out they didn't need a rx since my vitamin D is an otc. I finally got my rx after almost three weeks. read more

OUTRAGEOUS PRICES!!!! I just got my prescriptions transferred over. I went in to pick up one of them yesterday and was charged $161.49 for the 90 day supply. I thought that was a bit expensive (especially since I don't have insurance coverage). I therefore called Costco today to find out the price of the SAME prescription (quantitiy, dosage, generic) and it was $32.29. Are you kidding me? I went back to speak to the pharmacist, and the store manager, and both told me the $161 was the best they could do. Funny how they can't do anything about the price on something that can't be returned...... I will NEVER buy a prescription from CVS again. read more

Let me start by saying I use to work at CVS as a pharmacy tech about 5 years ago so I know exactly how easy it is to fill prescriptions and how a customer is important. I had a prescription for BC sent transferred from the CVS in Claremont to this one. Let me say it has been a journey getting my BC filled. I called this pharmacy literally two mins after having it transferred, they let me know they got the request but it was pending and the other CVS so they would call to stop it so the computer would allow them to print the label. The next day still no prescription ready I spoke to a guy who said he would call to make sure it got transferred. How hard is it to transfer a prescription! Especially for BC, you print out a label and stick it on the pre filled prescription. Day 3 still no BC prescription I got the same answer oh its not transferred...let me get this straight how many people does it take to transfer 1 prescription when it is all in the database at CVS!! Idk what these techs are doing but I know for a fact it's not hard to do this at all!!! I'm basing this experience on being a past tech, get it together! This is not rocket science! This is a busy store, I get it, but over a period of 3 days I think is a little much. Enter info in computer print label, stick label on! If you have trouble getting it transferred then you're just an idiot. Thank you CVS for delivering great Techs! Finally got this issue resolved on day 3 and tech #3 I belive her name was Randy or Brandy she called me within thirty mins or less to let me know it was ready to be picked up. That is an efficient tech, I did feel a little bad as I kind of was a little firm on the phone with her when I called and of course it's not her fault just glad it was resolved. read more

Left doctors office 2 hours ago...my prescription was sent to this pharmacy...I verified through my CVS app account that it was actually received. It said "fill in process." I just got to the pharmacy and was told "it will be about 20 mins because we just received it." So...basically, using the CVS app is useless and inaccurate, or they actually wait for you to come to the pharmacy to fill the prescriptions. read more

Hands down some of the worst customer service I have ever received on several occasions. I gave the staff the benefit of the doubt the first few times my prescriptions were screwed up because at one point in my life I worked in service industries (retail/waitress) and know how much it sucks dealing with a-hole customers, especially if things are out of your hands (aka corporate hell). CVS as a whole needs to get it together: What is the point of having an online system that you can refill your prescriptions if it does not notify you that CVS is going to switch you to generic or that store doesn't actually have your medication in stock or your medication has been discontinued? Then my favorite part is it emails me to tell me my prescription is ready for pick up but I get down to the store & it's actually at the CVS on Balboa in GRANADE HILLS (for the fourth time). Of course the staff blames this on my doctor's office (who I had already discussed this with and know is not their fault b/c CVS has my other 2 prescriptions that were called in at the same time just not one particular medication). When I ask them how I can ensure that this is not going to happen again they tell me to call their 1-800 # because this keeps happening to them (Rx's getting sent to Granada Hills). Uh, no your the employee. Also, if you are going to switch a customer's Rx from Brand to generic or vice versa you should discuss it with you customer prior to doing it (or notify them online). When I questioned the clerk about the rational behind this the pharmacist yells his answer from behind the counter & the clerk tell me to "take it or leave it." I know that the pharmacy is obviously understaffed but come on - a little customer service goes a long way. Not to mention when they were out of my medication (one that has a warning not to abruptly stop taking b/c of health consequences) & I inquired if another CVS in town might have it they told me, " I don't know you would have to call around." Me: "Your system doesn't tell you that?" CVS: "No, and we are really busy." Needless to say they have lost my business. I just transferred my prescriptions to a local pharmacy (My Rx HealthMart Pharmacy in N. PB) that does compounding & will hopefully be much more knowledgeable. read more

I made a yelp just to write this review. The ladies who work in the Pharmacy are so rude both in person and over the phone. While waiting in line to pick up my prescription I listen to the lady behind the counter be just as rude to the woman she was helping so I know they are treating everyone in this unfriendly fashion. Needless to say I just finished switching pharmacies. The only reason for two stars is because the lady who is always at the front helping with photo is very nice. read more

Absolutely the worst service I have ever experienced. Went thru the drive thru coming from the emergency room with a 2 and 4 year old in the car, the asian girl, Kathy, working the window was rude and seemed inexperienced, tired and overworked. She told ud we have to come inside even though I let her know we had two sick you children in the car and we were coming straight from the ER. We made the mistake of letting her know we had a new insurance card for the baby and she said thats the only way she can help us. By the way this is after waiting in line between two other cars for almost 15 minutes just to be told this and there was none behind us either. So we went to two other pharmacies across the street and bot did not have a night person, it was 9:00 pm on a Saturday. Hence we had to go back and go inside, once there I explained the situation to "Linda" and how I felt it was wrong for them to make us come inside, she quickly took the new insurance card and did nothing with it, there really was no legitimate reason for us to have to come inside. Then she tried to tell us something different and wanted to charge us $77.00 for a scrip when we have no copay. Everyone there was very confused and when I asked to speak to the pharmacist she told me Jennifer is off and thats that. Very rude and unprofessional people here, they should know when to make exceptions to the drive thru rule and make their prices more competitive. We ended up going to Costco pharmacy in the morning and paying $17.00 for the same prescription. read more

They said they would get ahold of the doctors office I get no return phone call no Updat nothing I go into my doctors office and they tell me it has been approved and they literally print out the insurance where it said it was approved now today they told me to come back at 7:41 to pick up the prescription I was so sick I sent my friend I get a phone call at 8 o'clock telling me they're out of that prescription when they told my girlfriend to be there at 7:41 to make matters even worse my own doctors office at Scripps told me CVS was the worst pharmacy that they had several problems with them and that I should change pharmacy so at this point I'm definitely going back to Rite Aid or Walgreens read more

The pharmacy at CVS is consistently the WORST, by far. The only reason I keep going back is because CVS seems to be one of the most organized of the drug stores available and the employees are usually quite helpful. I've been a customer of CVS for quite some time and generally, at the ones I've been to, all the pharmacists are friendly and helpful. But, for the most part, the pharmacists at this location are rude, snobby, and not helpful at all. Especially the blonde lady (there may be a few, but if you go you'll know what I mean) I had so much trouble trying to get my prescriptions switched over from another branch. They talked to me as if I had no clue what I was talking about, even though I knew exactly what I needed. There is, however, one guy and a new gal that work there that are very helpful and fast, I unfortunately can't remember their names, but they're pretty much the only ones who know what they're doing over there. My daughter had several prescriptions and we tried month after month for 6 months total to have all the prescriptions coordinate for pick up on the same day the 15th of each month. My prescription allowed for substitutions and the pharmacist didn't understand that and told me it would be awhile to call the doctor and I should go over as it would be faster. Being that urgent care is next door I did. Doctor said they have to call and form says substitution is ok. Went back to pharmacy told them and they said they would call doctor. I waited an hour and called pharmacy to see if they got the ok. TURNS OUT THEY NEVER. They lied to me. As I called my doctor they said pharmacy never called. I had the best experience this morning. I am teacher and went to pick up pictures of my kids (for a Christmas project) on my way to work. I had two online orders, one from my phone and one over the internet. The phone order was there. The 2nd order was not. Phillip came over to check, he couldn't find it. Phillip helped me to reorder what I needed from my phone. Good thing he knew so much about the iphone cause I don't. He was fabulous. I left a short time later, WITH my pictures. I thought I would have to come back on my lunch to pick up the pictures. I would not have had the pictures I needed , this morning too, if it were not for Phillip. Thank you Phillip. I have a refill for my medicine to pick up at this store for the last three months and I had to wait for average about 2 hours. Furthermore, my doctor had authorized to give me a lipitor with 10mg and they gave me the one with 80mg. Fortunately I detected this error and refused to accept this higher dose. I had complains to the manager lady twice, but the waiting situation did not improved. I recommend you should go to the store for better service. read more

You can always expect to wait in line to pick up a prescription here. When you reach the front of the line, just hope for a routine transaction. If there is anything out of the ordinary, you'll be going to the back of another line for a second period of waiting. When you reach the head of the second line, expect to be disappointed. Will never go to this store or use cvs again...i work near balboa avenue store and had a prescription for my daughter for asthma filled....i normally go to mira mesa store and called mira mesa location and asked if they could transfer prescription to balboa location. I was called and said prescription was ready and when arrived at Balboa location I was told the prescription was not ins system in Balboa location or Mira mesa location...I called Mira Mesa location after I was turned away and they stated the Balboa location was faxed and prescription is in the system and should of been ready. I spoke with several people at dr. Office and cvs to confirm prescription would be ready because I was going have to leave work early and still no prescription and not one worker fessed up to speaking to myself on phone at Balboa location as i called to confirm prescription was filled....Never will i use CVS again as this is not the first time I arrived and had issues with my prescriptions being filled....I was even on phone with mira mesa location and speaking to pharmacist at Balboa location and one store was seeing prescription in system and one store of course the store i was standing at balboa not seeing prescription for my child that was having issues breathing....do your jobs correctly. When CVS took over from Longs Drugs they made a big deal about their ExtraCare rewards card. I have finally figured out what a scam this rewards program really is. They'll email that you have a 25% coupon so you go into the store, and surprise surprise, when you get to the cashier, you find out that the coupon doesn't really apply to this particular transaction. One of the many exclusions is on any sale items. So what they do is lower the price of a $20 product by $1.00 -- it's now a sales item -- so the coupon doesn't apply. If this hadn't happened multiple times I'd consider it a coincidence. But I've only been able to actually use one of their coupons one time...so I have a feeling it's a more calculated thing. And then, to add insult to injury, they give you your receipt -- with eight irrelevant coupons attached to it. Things you'll probably never want or need to buy. If my time weren't worth something to me, I would refuse to purchase the item and leave it with the cashier. But that would mean then going to Target or Walmart or Walgreens...and sometimes time is just worth more than the few dollars I would have saved. Might seem like a petty issue...but when stores push you to sign up for their rewards program and you do...then you expect that it will occasionally benefit you. Otherwise, why even bother?? read more

It is currently 1:45am and I have been suffering from back pain and lack of sleep due to a bad injury. I called this pharmacy to ask questions about a prescription I needed filled ASAP (a muscle relaxer which I usually hate taking.. But in this case.. After no sleep for 2 days I will try anything to help me sleep). Anyways, I called and was left on hold for 25 mins before being hung up on. I called again and had the same thing happened. Finally I get ticked off and pull up to the window. Some guy answers over the intercom and says he's on lunch and he will be with me in 10 mins or so. Irretating.. And let me back up a little. This is a work comp case and EVERY time I come here they say that my case is closed or some bs. The work clamp insurance is listed and they are supposed to bill it to them.. But time and time again I have problems with it. Now it is 2:08 in the morning and surprise surprise this dude says they can't bill my work comp.. The same work come they always bill and I have to pay cash. Oh and itl be another 15-20 mins to get it ready.. What a nightmare.... :( terrible! read more
