I've been going to this pharmacy for four years (so I have a large sample size of interactions with them) and I can tell you that this is the most dysfunctional, poorly run pharmacy I've ever worked with. Every time I go in there, whether to get a prescription or receive a vaccination, I wait from half and hour to 45 minutes. I showed up on time for my COVID vaccine appointment this week and waited for 35 minutes. Need to talk to a pharmacist about an issue? Expect to wait over a half hour on hold if they ever pick up. More than once my doctor has called in a prescription and when I go to fill it the pharmacy says that they have no prescription, only for them to later admit that they made a mistake in their system. *This has led to me missing doses of my medication*. If you are a local and are looking for a pharmacy, this place will waste your life. I finally switched pharmacies this week. To be clear, as other folks have mentioned, this is not the fault of the employees- this is a problem from the top down- management needs to hire more people to run the pharmacy. read more

Old baggage = loss of memory Doh! When I'm on my usual roll with driving that initially starts off in the city and finally, several hours later, down in Santa Cruz, I mentally kick myself for forgetting a towel and some sunblock so that I can take in some of the sun at the beach. Longs Drugs is bordered with TJ's in this quaint shopping square so prior to hitting TJ's for my beach food fare, I ran to Longs Drugs for the hopes of skin protection. Perfect. 50 spf sunblock and a cheesy beach towel for $9.99. When I'm a tourist and visiting, one can't complain much about prices. I ran in and ran out, within a span of 15 minutes. An answer to the Walgreen's we affectionately see around the city. At least I know where to stock up on sunscreen/sunblock. A must in this sunny little town. read more

This CVS has a great selection of makeup. The displays were all well stocked and neat. I was surprised to see an NYC display. They usually just shove this stuff in the back near the Wet & Wild. You can find premium skin care like Vichy and La Roche Posay here, just like my beloved Valley Fair CVS. I love it! read more

I was having a terrible time with another CVS pharmacy so decided to switch to this pharmacy. So far it's been terrible. I walked up to the pharmacy window where the tech and pharmacist were casually chatting. Neither acknowledged me even though k was directly in front of them. A woman walked up and they asked her how they could help her - I had to say, hey I've been waiting here to I be helped. I felt invisible. And once I was being helped the tech seemed irritated and wasn't able to easily transfer all my prescriptions, I had to read off each one I wanted transferred. The store itself is understaffed too. I waited in a line maybe 15 people long to be helped by 2 registers. There aren't self checkout options like at other locations. The pharmacy and store district managers are clearly poorly managing all the cvs pharmacies and stores in the area. But I have no choice so I'll have to keep filling my prescriptions here but I won't shop here. read more

It's kind of annoying that they just changed the name on Yelp to CVS and left all the Longs reviews up. They are too different stores. That said, I LOVE CVS. At first they had problems with stock, but that was just changover. A lot of there stuff wasn't out yet because they were still building. I am all about the rewards card. Seriously, I work that puppy like no-one's business. Here's a recent score. Found promotional Revlon products, a mascara and eyeliner $7.95 and a pack with two different lipsticks. $7.95 BUT since they were buy one/get one free I paid $7.95 for four items. BUT that aint all. I also had a coupon for $4.00 off any Revlon product with my card. So now I paid $9.95 for 4 items that I normally would have had to pay about $32 for. The card also puts 2% on your card and they give you a coupon for that amount about every four months. And they figure it BEFORE the sale price. It makes me laugh when the cashier asks if someone wants a CVS extra care card and people get all huffy because they think someone is trying to pull one over on them. OK by me dumbasses. And NO I don't work there, I just go there a lot. read more

I wish I could leave 0 stars. Their pharmacy has the absolute worst customer service I've ever dealt with: 30+ minute waits even when you call ahead for refills, prescription isn't ready when they say it will be. They couldn't handle a refill request - after 2 weeks and 5 calls, I had to call the doctor myself and ask him to call CVS. Now they won't return faxes from my new pharmacy to transfer over prescriptions, and claim they never received them. AVOID!! Take your business elsewhere. read more

Pretty terrible. I used to like this place when it was longs, but it has gone way downhill since CVS took over. The prices went up, the quality went down, and some of their employees are awful. The cashier laughed at my ID because she thought it was fake, and then sold me the bottle of champagne anyways. My girlfriend called her rude and she followed us into the parking lot yelling. On the first visit, I received another person's prescription. On the second visit, they automatically refilled my prescription generic without checking with me. On the third visit, they were out of my medication and gave me only a 7 day supply. I live over 23 miles away, this is a huge waste of time and money. Luckily I did not take the other person's medicine. My dad is a retired pharmacist, and I'm thinking maybe they need to be investigated for negligence. read more

Went to Longs Tue 4/28/2009 to mail a package. The only reason why I went to Longs to mail my package is because I usually shop there and thought I would support the business. Oh, how stupid I was. The post office is only 5 minute walk from the Longs and I should have done that instead. I came up to the guy working at the mailing center and gave him the package. The package weighed 1lb 6oz and he told me the cheapest I could mail it for was $11.31 for USPS Parcel Post. I was shocked. I've never in my life paid so much for this small of a package. I proceeded to ask the guy if it would be cheaper if I walked to the USPS right down the street. He assured me that they would charge me the same exact price and I should not waste my time walking there. Since the package is not an emergency and I can wait the 9-12 days, I decided it would be okay, even though it was extremely high price for the weight and service. But I went for it and headed back home. Out of curiosity, I went to USPS.com to look up the actual price USPS charges for a package this weight shipped via PARCEL POST. The actual price for a package that weighs 1lb and 7oz is $6.67. I understand being charged the extra if I was purchasing the mailing materials from them, but I packaged the stuff with my already owned box etc. I decided to Email the Longs customer service with the description of the incident and my case was forwarded to the Longs manager on Front St. This is what he told me: "Thank you for your recent feedback on our Mailing Center Services at 600 front st. As you may not know, we are not an official USPS. We offer mailing services as a convenience to our customers. In order to do so we have some built in cost and expense. I apologize if you feel that this is to high of a price. I believe our rates are similar to other businesses that offer these types of services. If you have any further questions, please call me at (831) 426-7676 Sincerely, James Schofield" Here's the problem: I was not told that they charge extra. I would have walked those 5 minutes to the actual USPS if I knew. When I actually ASKED the employee if the USPS charges the same price or not, he said that they do: there are no hidden fees. When I tried to get in contact with the manager for further assistance, he completely ignored me and I am left here in anger and disappointment. One thing for sure: I will not be visiting this Longs ever again, nor will my housemates or my family. I'd rather go a bit further than get this kind of shitty treatment. Everyone that works here is incompetent. This actually goes for all CVS' I've been to (including the one on Mission in Santa Cruz and in Burlingame) I agree with the other reviews that commented on the gross carpet. They need to train their staff better. The checkout line takes way too long EVERY SINGLE TIME I shop at a CVS store. Three of my friends have all had problems w/ their prescriptions at BOTH the Mission and Front St CVS because of incompetent people that are slow and don't know how to do their job. Downsides- Really bad croud of meth addicts always hanging out outside by the payphone. it's very disturbing. They do not offer all of the same things that longs use to offer. More of an actual Pharmacy now than an everything store. No public restrooms, although I am aware that it's largely due to the previously mentioned large group of meth addicts in front. Upsides- Amanda in the photo department is an angel. Super helpful. My prints came out great and they had a special on one hour photo last time I went in which blew my mind. Very easy to get there from any given bar after last call. I have bought booze here at 1:59 am. awesome. They now offer coupons on your receits that can save you some serious bucks if you use them in time. read more

Worst CVS in the world. 1) The lines are almost always stretched down the several aisles. They make customers wait forever and never open additional lines. 2) The staff is usually angry/agitated (Once, one of the checkers was crying, another time a checker was fighting over 2 dollar in change with an older woman) 3) There are always bums hanging around the doors. Probably the worst pharmacy in all of Santa Cruz. Always always always plan on waiting at least 20 minutes to do anything in the pharmacy. I've waited close to an hour. There's always a line going down the vitamin aisle. The staff is nice but there aren't enough of them to properly handle this busy location. I go here because I live less than a block away, but I'm in the process of switching pharmacies. I can drive to another one and be back home quicker than it takes me to walk across the street and wait in line at CVS. Also, the crowd outside is totally sketchy even when they have a security guard on duty. read more

CVS has gone downhill for years but this store is especially the pits. A few tips. 1. Ask which line they want you in before you stand in one because after 15 minutes they will put you in a different one. 2. Do Not try to get a rx filled when the pharmacist is at lunch, although who the hell knows when that is. It will just be another excuse to make you wait. I mean retail always works around lunch hours right? 3. Don't let The Mgr Lela with the awesome white eyeshadow pretend to help you. She actually was yelling at me across the store how it was not their fault I couldn't get my rx at 1200 or 0830 tonight. Because the other jackedup cvs in Scott's valley transferred it to the wrong store. So it was MY fault. There was another customer In there at 0830 who said they told him to come back at 0900 (even though the pharmacy closed at 8). Yeah not their fault either. Dangerously stupid. The CVS web site said that these guys had activated charcoal in stock. I called the store to verify. A friend of mine had bad food poisoning and figured that might help. The first guy I got said "I asked the pharmacist and we do have it on aisle 23". I sent my friend over and when he got there they told him it was out of stock. I called right back to ask them to verify as the guy I first talked with assured me that it was in stock. The next person I talked to said "can you wait just a minute while I check?"... Sure no problem... 20 MINUTES later I was still on hold. I get this kind of behavior at an auto shop or bakery, but a pharmacy? My conclusion? Dangerously stupid. read more

The people here don't want to be here. It's a necessary evil in santa cruz, and all I needed was a box of cereal, a gallon of milk, and $20 cash back. I waited to get to the front of the line with my debit card. When it wouldn't scan they looked at me like I was crazy and then proceeded to try once more before telling me there was nothing they could do. Nothing they could do? At the least they should be able to enter it manually so I can get my groceries. I literally put my milk and cereal back on the counter, put my card back in my wallet, and left. The worst pharmacy ever, if you ran out of your meds. I have automatic refills, but my prescription wasn't ready yet. I waited for almost 2 hours, from 6:15 pm, until the pharmacy closes at 8. They assured me that I would get my prescription. Then at 8 pm they told all of us that the pharmacy's computers wouldn't allow them to ring anyone else up, and we all needed to come back tomorrow after 10 am. That was my awesome Friday night. CVS is a complete RIP-OFF. I rarely go there but when I do because I'm going to a nearby store, it's for a necessity that turns out to cost nearly 2-3x more than other places. the cheap staple of distilled water (their loss-leader) that I go in for is often never in stock. Is CVS under new management or did I just get lucky? Went to the pharmacy, was acknowledged and helped right away. Picked up another item and went to the front, barely waited, and was helped by the most delightful cashier, Lynn. She was personable, funny, and found one of my own coupons that save me $2 on my purchase! There were no beggars outside, no obviously intoxicated people buying booze, no paramedics inside taking incapacitated people out on stretchers (this could all be the same day at this location in my experience). Perfect and easy to find location - with a huge store neatly stocked. What was supposed to be a quick run in for pain pills became quite the sweet experience! Very friendly staff quickly assisted and...they let me use my ExtraCare coupon for my 4.49 pain pills! (Was supposed to be off of $5) Was impressed by the cashiers willingness to heck with the manager on the price adjustment! Major score for the morning! read more

I definitely do not like this store. It doesn't carry a lot of things that the old Longs Drugs does including stuff for plants. It has a very small selection of stationery and electrical appliances unlike the old Longs. About the only thing nice about this CVS pharmacy is that it the layout is newer than the old Longs. read more

I'm giving CVS two stars because I really lament the loss of Long's and think that CVS is a terrible replacement, BUT I still frequent this store. What can I say? They have all those drug-store things you need, but the shopping experience is always tainted by some incompetence or missing item. I went to develop a roll of film there last month and waited around at the counter for some assistance for about ten minutes before just getting in a check-out line and asking them to call someone to the Photo department. But their Photo technician was out sick. And the next week, their processor was broken. Instead of suggesting a nearby alternative like Bay Photo, the employee was impatient and unhelpful. To echo the aforementioned sentiments about the carpet, it is tacky and smelly. The entire layout of the store is cramped, especially around the front where they need the most room for checking out customers. Overall, I dislike going to CVS for my drug-store needs... but I still do it. read more

It's cool that this place is open 24 hours, but its always so sketch... I've always found everything I need and they have decent sales on cheap beer sometimes. However, there is always, always a line at the register and the last time I was there, bright yellow warning signs were placed on all of the fridges reminding you to check expiration dates... This is the most disgusting nasty CVS I've ever been to In My Life. The Pharmacy staff does not know what they're doing and needs to be trained in order to fill prescriptions. If you call a prescription in it will take about 5 hours to get filled. the pharmacists have no idea what they are doing and they are not apologetic at all in regards to customer service being completely crap. The night manager here is hella funny and deals with the schizophrenic homeless people, drunk people getting their last bottle alcohol while hopping into cabs, and random "Santa Cruzians" well. He does not take crap from anyone and is still professional as well as a peach to talk to. During the day the customer service I have received has been stellar-- no attitude or rolling eyes. I picked up some stunna shades here (since teachers gotta be ballin' 24/7) and this place is within walking distance of my apartment. They always have what I want and it saves me a trip to Safeway or some other store. When you can buy stamps, batteries, a diet dr. pepper and thank you cards at 3 AM.... you have won me over. read more

This place looks trashy, but they have a lot of things usually over price so I try to avoid this place. Sometimes they do have good deals that they advertise on the products with signs. I came here looking for plates, and found some plastic plates but they looked cheap and instead I got the eco-friendly onetime use paper plates. I usually buy snacks here, like I said in the beginning I feel ripped off when the prices here are higher than normally what I would pay for. The lines here can get long as well so this place is ok, I would avoid if I can. -Parking- Parking is overall available and it's a big lot. read more
