Worst service at the pharmacy EVERY TIME. Every time I refill my prescription and I receive my text showing its ready I arrive to find its not ready. Then I'm told it will be ready in an hour..I come back in an hour still not filled told to wait an additional 20 minutes. I'm ready to find a new pharmacy. I've been dealing with this for over 3 years now. My patience has been worn completely. I'm here now writing this review, same thing. And most of the associates are all very rude and condescending. Patients shouldn't have to count their meds or be blamed for the pharmacy's mistakes. If you screw up, own it. They didn't even have the courtesy to note the problem when I called the first time, or the second (I was told to call the next day to speak to the manager), or when I showed up to have the problem corrected. I agree that the "store" has several items that can't be found anywhere else. But this review is on the pharmacy. I have been going to this CVS pharmacy for several years and have had mediocre service. Until yesterday... it went from mediocre to horrible. My prescription was electronically requested by my Doctor at 4:45 PM and I got there at about 8:00 PM and they had not even checked their electronic prescription queue. Pharmacy technician initially tried to blame it on my Doctor but then fessed up it was their fault. I was sent away because they did not have the prescription and that they would call me the next day to let me know what the status was. 24 hours later... no call. Horrible service!!! Seven months ago I transferred all my prescriptions to CVS pharmacy after Walgreens had a contractual dispute with my insurer. After bringing in all my bottles from my "old" pharmacy, I'm still encountering situations where the staff at CVS pharmacy don't have what I need to refill on file. I wish I could say that was the worst of it. I have one doctor that for reasons I won't get into needs to be billed differently. Every time I drop off a prescription from this doctor, I make mention of it. Every single time they nod their heads, take my prescription and fill it the way they always do -- billed incorrectly. Every single time they waste my time and theirs returning and re-processing my purchase -- as a long line stretches out toward the front of the store behind me. It gets worse. On one occasion I brought in three prescriptions written by a single doctor. I was told it would be ready the next day. Two days later I go to pick it up and I am told that the prescription is illegible; they will need time to call the doctor (which begs the question -- in 48 hours why had they not already done so)? This ties into another problem: According to "Josie", CVS' automated system does not call a patient unless the prescription is already on the shelf for "two or three days". The phone call is your warning that if you don't get there ASAP, it's gonna be yanked. This I didn't know. That's because Walgreens automatically has their service call clients when a prescription is ready for pickup -- not just when it's about to be pulled. I also made the mistake of believing that this is a 24-hour pharmacy. On the one occasion I called during off hours I sat on hold. After 20 minutes I got ahold of someone in another part of the store who informed me that the pharmacist was on a break. Now I fully appreciate that these folks need and deserve their break but what I didn't know is that the pharmacy manager does not provide anyone to relieve the night-shift pharmacist, "Don", while he's out! I had called at 11:30 p.m. I was still on hold 10 minutes to midnight, and never once did the voicemail system allow me to leave a message or otherwise inform me that the pharmacy had temporarily closed. A week later, while still trying to get the same prescription filled -- ostensibly my doctor failed to call back -- I spoke to Josie who said "everybody knows" that this 24-hour pharmacy closes. Uh, obviously not "everyone"! Why not tell that to your new clients next time? (Or better yet, do what Walgreen's does -- allow people to leave a message for the pharmacist!) Getting back to the illegible prescription: All told it took three tries on the phone and three tries waiting in line to obtain three prescriptions, dropped off a week prior. I spent almost two hours on the phone and in-store lines as pharmacy staff parsed out the prescriptions they assured me would be ready for pickup in a single day, on a single visit. Once again, the pharmacy staff blamed my doctor (a different one this time). Funny the excuse "The doctor didn't call back!" is always so handy. Those same doctors didn't have a problem calling the pharmacists at Walgreens. Since becoming a CVS pharmacy patron I am to believe that ALL my doctors have become super flakes! Stranger still, when trying to track down the many "dropped balls", I have encountered situations where I have been asked who helped me last only to be told by a fellow pharmacist that they have no idea who I'm talking about! Now I ask you: If the pharmacists working at this CVS don't know the names of their coworkers, how the heck does one trust them with one's medications? Case-in-point: I spoke earlier of the night-shift pharmacist, Don. Upon returning from break, he indicated he didn't have my prescription on file. I read him the entire label off my Walgreens bottle. I asked when to check back ("Tomorrow at noon"). Three days later not only had my doctor failed to call (allegedly) but, after multiple conversations with staff during which time I restated the name and contents of the label, my prescription was filled incorrectly. I guess I should have saw this coming from the 2 out of 3 pharmacists I spoke with who, despite spending all that time in school, *admitted* to never having heard of extended-release albuterol tablets (for asthma -- an old drug, not exactly obscure!). If you must patronize CVS pharmacy know that there are better and cheaper places to go. Second, if you have problems, as I have, with rude staff who consistently pass the buck to your "flakey" doctors, I suggest you get to know Carl. Carl is the only breath of fresh air in the entire place. Some of you in the area might recall that Carl once worked at the Drug Emporium pharmacy on Imperial and Beach before it closed and became a Smart & Final location. Carl is old school -- competent, helpful, professional. Don't be thrown by the fact that some of his coworkers have never even heard of him. He's there. And he's your only hope! read more

Now that I have been a customer here for a few months I can give a better review. the pharmacy here sucks. The pharmacy techs are pretty useless. What really pisses me off is their blatant disregard for any patient privacy. I learned to give them my drivers license instead of having to announce my name and birthday to everyone in the pharmacy area. And whats worse is they still ask me what my name and birthday is even after handing them my drivers license. This place is the most unprofessional pharmacy I have ever been to. If I could give negative stars I would. This is the only CVS pharmacy I have ever been to that claims my doctor's office does not transmit prescriptions in a timely manner. Every other pharmacy gets scripts in 10 minutes. Could it be that your tech is too old or not capable of the volume you "handle"? I talked to my doctor at 5pm and my husband went to pick up my meds at 10pm only to be told they never got them. At 7 am the next day I called and was told that they had gotten the script but it had not been filled yet. It was finally filled at 9 am... A mere 17 hours after the meds were prescribed. When I complained, I was told that my doctor faxed the script over at 4 am. 4 am! Really?? What family practice doctor is in their office at 4 am? They had no explanation as to why if the script was "received" at 4 am why it was not filled until 9 am, 5 hours later. For a z-pack that is already pre-packaged. I was not even offered a "sorry." I can't wait until the CVS on Harbor and Imperial opens. I hope Whittier's attitude and lack of efficiency doesn't infect the new staff. Do yourself a favor, go to another 24 hour pharmacy. If you are already feeling bad don't let their ineptitude make it even worse. read more

I went in to refill my mother-in-law's prescription, which was a mistake considering the first time I went in they gave me problems because her doctor was in a different city. Today, the young man behind the counter and the lead pharmacist denied our refill and did not disclose why. Was it because the doctor prescribing was from a predominantly minority city or because they assumed we were criminals. Not sure, I will update my review when I get their names. I will also be going to talk to a supervisor tomorrow to see what guidelines they use to deny prescriptions. Either way this was uncalled for. read more

This is our CVS, we frequent it often but the pharmacy..geez, they really must get rid of the weak link. The pharmacist Josie Dang was a complete nightmare, very rude, yelling at the poor techs instead of politely taking them aside to better instruct them. If I could less than one star, I would! Pharmacy is horrible!! First time coming here. The lack of eye contact from staff should have been my first warning! Was told to come back in 2 hours, I saw long lines, so ok. Target and Vons nearby, got some shopping done. Came back 3.5 hours later, no lines, however Rx is NOT READY. EXCUSES GIVEN they need 20 more minutes to count pulls!! There are 6 people behind the counter! Frustration now since I have groceries in the car and will have to run home and come back!!! I like this place only for the fact that I was able to find some products that I was not able to find at my local Target. I mean, there are certain times when a girl needs to find her products and when the usual store you go to doesn't have what you want you're forced to look elsewhere. Well, it was coming to a last resort to try CVS. I didn't want to go to Wal-Mart because I hate fighting the crowds. So when I was just about ready to leave the parking lot at Whitwood Mall, I noticed CVS and turned in forthwith. I found exactly what I was looking for, was able to use my coupon, and was offered a CVS discount card by one of the employees. I made a discount killing on the products I was buying and left very happy. Now I know where to go to buy these necessities. I'm so glad I found CVS. I'm totally coming back here. read more

There has to be a more convient way to pick up prescriptions. I waited in line for 15 minutes just to be told that it will be another 45 minutes before your prescription is ready. This by far is the worst place to get a prescription filled! Always out of something, will fill partial scripts sometimes and always some confusion regarding prescriptions. Literally had the worst experience at this CVS! This isn't my normal CVS but I have had to use their services before and it had never been as bad as my last experience. My boyfriend was released from the hospital after having emergency surgery's and we were needing to go pick up his medication. I needed to take him with me since the medications he was prescribed were strong. I wouldn't be able to just buy them myself with out him being present. I get the medication and payed for it then went over to where he was sitting to make sure I had everything. They only gave me two out of the three we needed. I get back in line to see what was going on with the third cause that was the only we actually really needed. I asked the guy that helped me the first time and told me to talk to the pharmacist. When I finally got to speak to her after waiting watching her while she did nothing she told me she wasn't going to sell it to us. So I asked a few more questions trying to understand her reasoning. The excuse she gave was that the insurance wasn't going to cover it so I would have to pay full price. I said I would pay the full price then she said she still wouldn't sell it to us even though he was prescribed the medication. She sent us on a wild goose chase telling us we need to contact the hospital because she wouldn't help even though she could see my boyfriend sitting down feeling very unwell. After contacting the hospital we went back in to CVS the hospital said they can't do anything and if something is wrong it's the pharmacist job to call. We went back in to talk to the pharmacist and tell her what they told us. The pharmacist wouldn't come talk to us and was walking around laughing. I guess the shift changed and a different pharmacist came in and she made him help us after we've been waiting there for a few minutes watching her just laughing with her friends talking crap. We talked to the new pharmacist and before he told us anything she pulled him to the side and was talking about us telling him to not help us. She started insinuating that my boyfriend was a druggie and that's why he was trying to get the medication so he shouldn't help us, when I fact it was obvious he just had surgery and wasn't feeling well. She was prejudice and decided put him in a stereotype because he is a young veteran. In her own head because she was being prejudice she believed the only reason he wanted the medication his doctor prescribed was because he could only be a druggie in her head. Not because he feels terrible because he just got out of the hospital from emergency surgery and the doctor said that medicine is what he needed for recovery. When the other pharmacist was done talking to the lady he said the reason they couldn't give it to us was because of the insurance (which was BS) he recommended calling a different pharmacy in the morning to see if they could help. The next morning was busy calling different pharmacies calling the hospital getting no where. I ended up calling my usual CVS to see if they could help me figure it out. I called the CVS in target on Carmenita in Santa FE Springs. They pretty much told me they could help me out I could just need to get it transferred to them the only problem is it may take a few days cause it was Christmas week and they were located in target so they wouldn't get it shipped until after all that (the only reason I didn't go to them in the first place). They recommend trying to get it one more time and if they still gave us trouble then get it transferred and they could help but it would just take longer. I called the CVS in the whittwood one more time to see if could get it. The lady on the phone was rude but told me if I waited an hour they could get it ready for me and I could pick it up myself as long as I show my ID. When I went to pick it up their were new pharmacist and I got it with out any trouble (sad to say but probably because I'm a young Caucasian female and I was there by myself this time).I found out they didn't have it prepared the night before and instead of telling me that when I asked if that was the reason the pharmacist made a whole scene making sure we couldn't get it because she decided to be prejudice to my boyfriend. I've had a lot of bad experiences at different CVS's but this was the worst. You think with everything going on in the world people would know that it's not ok to be prejudge and treat people any different because you choose to fit them into whatever stereotypes you have going on in your head. I wish I would have gotten the pharmacist names and one of the other workers she was talking crap with so that I could make sure this doesn't happen to other people. I recommend not going to this CVS she humiliated us and made us feel terrible when we did nothing wrong. read more

I return an item that I bought from this store and they look at me as if I were trying to deceit them. One of the staff asked the other (in front of me) and saying something like this "does he open it?" I feel it is not polite because I was there in front of them. They look at me like with suspicious eyes. I just don't like how they treat me. May be they should learn how to treat customer better. read more

If I could give this pharmacy 0 stars I would. I have a prescription for pain pills as I was just hit but a car. I took my prescription in and they told me they couldn't take it because they couldn't read the date yet other numbers in the script are written the same and you can read those. This is Friday night at 10pm after they told me they could fill it. The doctor was closed all weekend so I have to take a day off to go to the doctor just to have the same script written again. I took it in today and saw the same person who now tells me oh sorry again, we missed another problem and we can't take the perscription. They have spoken to my doctor numerous times and told him just to rewrite it so they could see the date better and yet, still will not take my perscription. I was hit my a car now over two weeks ago, in a serious amount of pain and no one willing to help me. Incompetent pharmacist and techs with zero customer service. read more

On multiple occasions, I get a call stating my medication is ready o lay to be told it is not and to wait another hour. I hauled my sick infant out of the house for his antibiotics. Get home, and the normal liquid pink meds, was powder. They forgot to add liquid and mix it! They constantly blame the dr for not sending the prescriptions. Today I saw my dr send 3, o my to be told "sorry. Your Dr didn't do their part. Have a seat. We can call but it will be another hour wait" No thanks! read more

If I could do less than one star I would, which sucks because this CVS is a great store. Always well put together and it's easy to find what you're looking for. The problem here is the employees, mainly the management team. I don't think I've ever been assisted by anyone with a smile or pleasant attitude (I manage in retail, I know how important this is for customer service) but I've had bad experiences each time I've come here in the last 6 months. Last night sealed the deal; came in to return some Orajel my husband bought for our teething 3 month old (didn't know infants under 2 couldn't have it) and to purchase Tylenol instead. Showed the receipt for the purchase and I was asked for the card used. I didn't have it as it was my husbands card and, unfortunately, his account was compromised last week so the card and account had been closed. They told me they couldn't help me. I asked for store credit. They said no. I told the guy "there has to be a way, what do you do in a situation where someone no longer has the card that was used?" He offered to get his manager. The guy came back with someone else who's name tag read "Manager in Training." At this point, my son started to get fussy and cry because he wasn't feeling well (hence the Tylenol) and had been in his car seat too long. The Manager said he couldn't help me without the card listed on the receipt. I said "listen, I work retail, I know how this works...there has to be an alternative, I don't get it". After a long scoff, he said "fine, I'll do it for you THIS time but next time you better bring in the right card." WHAT AN ASS. I said "you act like I DONT want to give you the right stuff you're asking for! Trust me, I would much rather have gotten this over with 5 minutes ago and my husbands account not hacked and his money stolen rather than sit here and argue with you about it while my son is upset because he doesn't feel well and needs his medicine." The manager said nothing and walked away after issuing a gift card. I don't appreciate how rude and unhelpful he was. I understand there are policies put in place and he was just trying to follow them, but sometimes being a decent person and making exceptions for customers in order to KEEP THEM as customers is a much better resolution. Good job at losing my business, bro. PS, I've notified my friends and family to not visit this location as well. Hopefully, another CVS location will offer real customer service. read more

I can't stand this CVS. My usual one is on Mills, and the techs there are incredibly more professional, friendly, and efficient. Everything these people aren't. The techs here are rude and rush the hell out of you. Everyone is pissed off and seriously want to do as little as possible to help you. I sat at the drive thru for 20 minutes, and when I hit the call button, the guy would get on the mic and say "hold on, just a minute" and then resume to stand there and laugh at whatever the other tech was saying. Another time, a tech snapped at me and was angry because I apparently wasn't being LOUD enough for him to hear my answers the personal questions he was asking me about my medicine when other people were standing right there. Look, I've worked plenty of crappy jobs before, where the customers are rude and morale is low, so when the guy at a fast food joint acts like this, I don't care and I even understand. But this is people's medicine your dealing with! Its KIND OF important. The ONLY pro is that they're open 24 hours, which is comforting to know when you're up sick all night. Thats IT. When the best thing about a place is the hours, you know it sucks. Drive the extra mile and go to another pharmacy. Any one but this. read more

I've been shopping at this CVS since it's been built, and also the Sav-On drug store that this one replaced for many years. After yesterday's rude encounter with the guy that works in the photo dept (he wasn't too happy to have the mgr ask him to help with the long line), I am going to give my hard-earned dollars to either Riteaid or Walgreen's. The photo guy rolled his eyes at the customer behind me when I asked him to please apply a $2.00 coupon to my order. His facial expressions are always implying that he thinks his position behind the counter is a place of superiority. This ping pong game in trying to get your meds filled is outrageous. These people don't care one whoot about you and they don't even try to get you, your meds ontime. I have been trying to get a prescription filled for 2 weeks and its still excuse after excuse. We called the doctor and he hasn't called back. Blah blah blah. Don't go here its not worth it and now that I am without my medication, I'm not going to be able to sleep. I HATE this pharmacy and I plan on going elsewhere. Good riddons. I have been a long time with this CVS in Whittier for many years. I am a reasonable person, but this pharmacy is totally flawed. I have spent so much time trying to make sure I could get and pick up prescriptions after submitting new prescriptions, but there are so many little things that you need to know if you really need something. Example, if your doctor sends a prescription after 5:00 pm, you cannot get it that night. I recently needed a drug that is necessary for my husbands life. Coumadin, also known as Warfarin. The clinic he goes to keeps increasing the dose, so I knew I had to have the doctor's office call it in on Friday in the day. We did that. I finally got through to the pharmacy after waiting three times for over 15 minutes on the phone and hanging up. It was 9 pm at night and after many questions they finally found the new prescription and said it would be ready at 10:00 pm. So today I went through the drive through to pick it up. After much discussion, they told me that the insurance would not cover it, so they decided not to fill it. I am a caretaker for my husband. My time away is critical. So they tell me to come back in an hour, because they decided not to fill the prescription. Since when can't they call and ask me if I still want it. They have no customer sympathy. Over this one prescription I spent 60 minutes waiting on the phone, verified with our doctor and CVS it would be ready, only to tell he they decided not to fill it because I would gave to pay for it. Well CVS pharmacy, thus prescription is a life saving drug, not some maybe thing. He has to gave it, so why would you decide not to fill it without calling me? Believe it Iraq nit, my time is valuable too. I expect a pharmacy to gave a brain. Your pharmacy has messed up so many times. One time you gave me someone's hydrocodone. That is a major pain medication drug that can only be filled with a take in prescription. They are incompetent. I am going to fine a pharmacy that cares about me and my family. I'm posting a second review to correct the first one I posted by mistake. Although the pharmacist had closed the 24 hour pharmacy for his lunch break at 11:45 p.m., an older employee did apologize for the inconvenience. He returned at midnight and rushed to assist me. He was very efficient. I noticed he was alone on this late shift, & he then dispensed meds to another patient, & then another one, & proceeded to answer her millions of questions. He then assisted her with her grocery list purchase (which I thought was very inconsiderate of her, & too kind of him..I feel he should have directed her to the store front cashier). As soon as he finished helping her, he rushed to fill my daughter's E.R. rx in record time. He did an outstanding job. Despite the tiny bumps in the road (24 hour pharmacy being closed for lunch), I'm thankful to have this 24 hour pharmacy in my home city, & that they accept TriCare. I'd rather wait 15 minutes for him to return from his bad shift lunch break, than have to drive outside the area to fill an E.R. rx at midnight. :-) read more

Went in today to buy makeup and gum I had a 20% coupon, to my surprise the coupon doesn't apply to sale items and the makeup was on sale. So Lorraine the cashier instead of letting me know not to waste it on gum she applied it to my gum. I said to her (with a smile)that was s waste, she replied "ya".
