I took my girl out yesterday and she was hungry for barbecue It was my 1st visit to try Papa Charlie's BBQ. I had heard some good things about it, and wanted to try it. We sat at the bar and Paul did a great job taking care of us. I had the brisket and Mac and cheese. The brisket had a great smoke flavor and I enjoyed the Mac and cheese too. My girlfriend had the ribs and potato salad. The ribs were really good, the middle ones were fall off the bone tender and the end pieces had a nice char. I was hoping she'd leave me one, but no, She crushed them. Nice touch sending all the Mom's a dessert on the House. She chose the cobbler and ice cream, it was nice and warm and had a great flakey crust. I'd recommend the place and will return. Nice atmosphere, good service, and top notch bbq and sides. read more

Great atmosphere, but don't wast your money or time with the BBQ. Extra small portions with a extra large price tag. The only flavor from the brisket was from the A1 sauce we had to top it with. Possibly the worst BBQ I've had in Texas. If you want a family atmosphere with horrible food this is your place, other than that there are better choices nearby read more

I was so excited to try this place! We need a good bbq place in Cypress! So, we went there on Saturday around 7:00. It took a long time for a hostess to acknowledge us and seat us (there was not a wait). The restaurant was VERY loud so it was hard to have a conversation with those in my party. When the food was served it was cold. Two of our bbq sandwiches were served with frozen buns!!!! Our portions were small which was fine. But don't expect Texas size like most bbq places. read more

They recently catered my 3 year old's birthday party and it was amazing. Every guest I talked to asked about the barbecue and where it came from and how good it was. They were fantastic to work with. I would have to say I was extremely disappointed in the food at Cypress Trail hideout. The two stars and strictly for the ambience of the restaurant and patios area and the server you provided us great service. For an appetizer we got there skillet queso with brisket, the queso was room temperature at best and so was the chopped brisket. The brisket was very fatty which is not a good texture when combine with a luke warm cheese sauce. As for entrees I got the wagu burger med-rare as recommended on the menu, unfortunately it came out well done and the bun was hard as rock from sitting under the heat lamp I presume while my daughters chicken tenders cooked. The second burger was great but no manager came by to apologize. My wife got the baked potato with the brisket, again the meat was very fatty and she had lots of have chewed pieces of meat on her plate. On the plus side the kids enjoyed their kids meal but with them want Mac and cheese instead of fries it brings their kids meal to almost $8 which seems steep for this type of restaurant. I honestly cannot see us eating here again, although they do offer live music on Friday's so perhaps we may give them a second chance for drinks. read more

Great food with even better service!! Request for Cameron as your server, he was amazing! Had great food recommendations and had us laughing the whole meal. We ordered fried pickles for an appetizer and had the turkey, tomato, bacon sandwich, and the two meat plate with brisket and sausage with Mac & cheese and green beans for our sides. The pickle chips were phenomenal and had so many for an appetizer portion. The turkey on the sandwich was smoked and was so flavorful. The brisket and sausage were great and the sides were amazing! Had the pleasure of dining here for the first time on Mother's Day and I loved it! I noticed immediately how relaxed everyone was. It was packed outside and inside yet no one appeared unhappy - just a really great vibe and atmosphere. It also was very clean. Our darling server, I think her name was Kaitlin, was great! We had a few order changes and she was great at accomodating us. Now to the food. I got the Brisket plate with coleslaw and potato salad and it was incredibly delicious and soooo was the sauce. Other items ordered at our table included Fried pickles and brisket queso - omg - incredible! More bbq; a couple of the most flavorful hamburgers and other items and everyone at the table couldn't have enjoyed it all more! Though many rave about this BBQ restaurant I thought it was mediocre. Had a plate consisting of 4 ribs, creamed corn and coleslaw. Ribs were tender so 5 stars for that, but they were also rather small and the rub was okay. Coleslaw was average. Creamed corn was not so good, at least not for me. It is thick, like it was made with cream cheese or some other thickener added. Yuck! With a weak iced tea my total bill was just under $20. Way too much money for the amount of food and the quality. Our team went here for our end of year basketball party. There were 40+ people. We sat outside by the fire pits, where the kids could roam freely, but safely. A couple waitresses took our order and I swear within 15 min. all our food came out! The fastest service I've ever had with such a large group! The staff was very attentive to our needs and the food was great! The brisket was so tender and the ribs fell off the bone! Highly recommend and it's such a relaxing atmosphere. read more

Tried this spot a few months back after a friend posted good reviews. Good BBQ is subjective but I try to be fair. The issue I had with the brisket was at best it was room temperate smoke flavor was not there and I did not see a smoke ring at all. The sausage was ok at least it was warm forgot what sides I had which means they were not memorable. read more

We tried this place out for lunch today. Seems like a quaint little place. Typical country fair like burgers and chicken fried steak. Nice outdoor area with a stage and cornhole. I understand they are still going through opening pains. Main complaints were: very understaffed, food came out randomly (I was done eating mine before everyone else's came out including some drinks). My Red, White, and Blue steak salad was pretty underwhelming. $14 for a handful of lettuce, 2 slices of tomato, 2 slices of onion, and 3 thin slices of brisket, although the brisket was very good. Texas Rd House has a similar entree that is 4 times as big for the same price(good for leftovers). I'll go back in a few weeks after they've maybe worked the bugs out and see if it's better. Food industry is tough in this area with all the new restaurants opening. Gotta be on your A-game, not many chances to make a first impression. read more

It's a sin to call this "Texas bbq." Pulled pork was bone dry (how is that even possible), brisket didn't pass the pull test at all, was not tender and very dry. It also had very little bark and the marbling of the brisket showed a poor meat quality selection. I'm fine with it being lower meat quality but don't charge $16 a lb for it. Sausage was alright at best, but definitely room for improvement. I expected the turkey to be dust after the bites of the other food but this was actually not bad. Bbq sauce tasted like ketchup with a few different seasonings. Mac and cheese was good and the green beans were ok. I picked all of this up at 11:30 so you would expect this to have been at its best. read more

Overall it was a great time! Met 2 other couples for dinner, and were seated promptly. Our awesome waitress suggested different beers to try, and was very knowledgeable about the menu. Ordered nachos as an appetizer, good but not great. Hubby ordered the chicken fried steak with creamed corn. They use the same jalapeno gravy for both, and it was really thick. Not great. I ordered the chicken breast with pic and cheese, and a loaded baked potato. Both were awesome! Others ordered burgers, baked potatoes with pulled pork, and a turkey avocado sandwich. We were excited to see a new place in the neighborhood, but that's where it ended. The place looks good, but once inside you find that it is a BBQ joint, where you order from a waiter or waitress. Then you see the prices, $15 for a hamburger, $12 for a brisket sandwich. We decided to check it out despite these flags and ordered our food. We both went with chopped beef brisket sandwiches. They come with a side, hence the $12 tag for a sandwich. When our food came out, there was a gel about 1/4 inch deep in the bottom of my basket. When I picked it up, the grease ran down the bun and all over my hand. I've gotten less oil working on vehicles. Anyway, this hidden gem will likely die a quick death. There are too many good BBQ joints on this side of town that are cheaper and offer cafeteria style service. They do have a bar, but the restaurant has some work to do if they intend to survive. read more

Good atmosphere and good food! My husband and I ate here for dinner for the first time. We tried the sausage, brisket, and turkey as well as the mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and Mac n Cheese. Meats were moist and delicious! Creamed corn and Mac N Cheese were great, mashed potatoes above average. Service was excellent- our server was attentive and polite. Food wait time was appropriate. I took my son to dinner last night at Cypress Trail Hideout. The decor and atmosphere was great! I had heard how good the food was, but thinking we ordered the wrong thing. We both had the brisket bbq baked potato, which usually you can't go wrong ordering that. The $12 potato was very disappointing, as it had no taste. There was some brisket on it, but not much and it was minced into tiny pieces that were hard and burnt tasting. There was minimal cheese on the potato and I thought it came with green onions, but didn't see/taste any. There was plenty of butter and sour cream (sc tasted a little off). I did eat the whole thing, not because it was good, but I was hungry. I should have ordered something else after first bite, but guess I wasn't in the mood to complain about it. Usually when you get a bbq potato from restaurants, there is a good amount of chunky brisket....you may want to adjust. It was also around 7:45, so maybe we just got the end of the day leftover bits. I would like to try restaurant again, but something else. The fried pickles were good for appetizer. read more

Cypress sure does struggle for good quality restaurants, so I was hopeful for this new one. I went at 4:30 to pick up BBQ to take home for dinner - they aren't really set up for that. It feels like it's designed as a post work bar hangout, that serves BBQ. There are plenty of people working there, but mostly young and acquiring restaurant skills. Me: Are the ribs baby back? Them: what do you mean?... Bottom line on the food: Ribs are indeed pretty good tasting, tender off bone. Weird that they are all individually cut, especially since I ordered a rack (which also caused confusion). Brisket sandwich ordered lean: won't get that again. Lots of fat. Pulled pork sandwich: meat was dry, texture was slightly old, when I added their bbq sauce it was actually 7 out of 10. The overall strange thing about this place is that all food prep is behind closed doors in the kitchen, and doesn't feel like a genuine BBQ place. A place like Rudy's is far more authentic. The portions are small, expensive, and took a surprisingly long time to get considering the 90% empty building at the time, with a restaurant full of staff. Cypress is FULL of people with decent salaries looking for a quality restaurant that delivers - the competition is weak. Owners and managers need to step up, for the customer loyalty will be extreme. read more

We went here last night for supper! It was the second time we've dined here and we'll definitely be returning! The atmosphere is great, plenty of outside seating, great music, tv's with the game on, tons of space for the kids to run around and hang out. The first time we ate there, I ordered the pulled pork with mashed potatoes and house made mac & cheese. The pork was delicious and the mac & cheese is to die for! Last night I ordered the Cypress Trails Chicken breast with fries and I would order it again for sure! The chicken was perfectly cooked- juicy, tender grilled white meat with melted mexican cheese on top served up with spicy corn salsa that was absolutely delicious! We also tried an order of the fried pickles. They had the perfect amount of crispy breading fried on them and were delicious by themselves and dipped in the ranch dressing. It's a little pricey but overall we enjoyed it and plan to return! read more
