Surprise, surprise. Mr. Picky's favorite is the Monday meatloaf. And I agree. But I recently decided to try the burger on the back of the menu that I had seen many people ordering. It turns out that this is a very generous-sized beef patty and they put just the right amount of pickle and onion, lettuce and tomato on it, creating a really delicious bite. I had never tried them at the restaurant before, but for my side I selected the french fries and they were close to perfect. They were piping hot, the perfect color, and had just a little tiny bit of crisp on the outside. Going forward I'm definitely gonna order that again. And Mr. Picky said he liked the fries he stole from my plate so much that next time he would have those with his meatloaf instead of the homemade mashed potatoes. The restaurant is very clean and big. Employees are nice and accommodating! The thing with this restaurant is that they have different lunch specials every day of the week that feature a couple of sides you can choose from to go with your meal! I've had the country fried steak w/ gravy and mashed potatoes, beans, and yeast roll. (That's one of the Thursday specials). That was pretty good. I have also had the fried catfish with coleslaw and onion rings with garlic bread which was one of the Friday specials. That has been my favorite so far. Coleslaw is great, catfish is seasoned well, and the onion rings were so crispy! All of the specials with their included sides are only $9.99! It's been several years since I last dined here. Jessie's is a casual and inexpensive table service breakfast and lunch restaurant. My past visits have only been for lunch. Parking is adequate in the strip center lot. The menu changes daily with 3 different entrees offered with a mix of vegetables along with burgers, sandwiches, soups and salad, etc. offered every day. About a week ago, I came by for lunch. The first thing I noticed was a new improved interior. It was much nicer than in the past. The only thing missing was some kind of decor on the bare walls. Of the selections being offered that day my waitress recommended the 12 layer lasagna saying it was very popular. So I went with that and added green beans and a salad as the two sides. Along with a drink the daily lunch costs $8.50 before tax. I told you it was inexpensive! The salad came out first. Basic iceberg lettuce with croutons and my requested ranch dressing. The rest of the meal arrived about 5 minutes later. The green beans were just ok and the lasagna too but honestly not my favorite flavor wise. I probably would order something else next time. The best thing about the meal was the price and it filled me. Table service was ok but when you are finished they don't bring you a bill. You have to walk up to the counter to pay. Went for the first time with my husband a couple of weeks ago. Never will return. Food was mediocre. Pork chops were flavorful and juicy. Pancakes were good. HOWEVER, there was a hair on my plate, potatoes had no seasoning and were bland. My husband was eating pancakes and as he poured syrup on his pancakes he noticed a gnat stuck inside the bottle. If you do not like a VERY basic and plain breakfast platter then don't come here. Everything here is so bland and plain. I got the #1 special with two bacons strips, two sausage patties, two eggs, "hash browns", and biscuit and gravy. First the gravy is liquid, not thick and tasteful at all with a dry biscuit. I was very disappointed when I saw dry cubes of potatoes than hash browns, as stated in the menu. The whole platter was very bland except for the patties and bacon (which were of store bought quality). My uncle in front had the chorizo platter which was nothing authentic or spiced as you would remotely get at a Mexican place. Then we decided to give the buttermilk pancakes a try. This was the only thing that we liked. The only thing was it was less than a centimeter thick but for $1??? That's pretty good! I have eaten here for years, pretty much since they opened, they were always one of my favorite lunch restaurants. But slowly over the years I have seen the taste of the food decline. It would appear that they use a lot of packaged food products and not as much from scratch cooking. My most recent visit was yesterday and yes I didn't realize what time it was and they were almost at closing time (2:00pm) the food was awful, a small slice of dry meatloaf, with can green beans that were actually pretty good and the very small portion of mashed potatoes ( no seasoning for flavor) with packaged white gravy. I asked for an extra side of mashed potatoes because it was so small and was told they were out of mashed potatoes, explains the small portion. I wasn't offered anything in place of. The previous visit was their pot roast which was always delicious, actually as good or better than mine with homemade brown gravy, oops I got side tracked, the last visit was a tough piece of beef that I couldn't cut through it, very little carrots or potatoes. It really saddens me that they have slipped so far down in their quality of food. I guess I need to find a new favorite home cooking restaurant or just stay home and cook myself. lol read more

My sister and I were in the area and found this little place with the help of Yelp. We were waited on immediately and ordered our food which was delivered in a timely manner. Shortly after we arrived, it appeared that the regulars began to show up. The young waitress was working hard and taking care of everyone. My wife and I visited here for the first time in June 29, 2019. I had breakfast combo one and she had breakfast combo too. She's particular about where we dine and said she would definitely return. So very very confused especially with the reviews. Granted some weren't great but I certainly expected more gone is chicken fried steak and like an idiot had to push to try the "gravy" really should have taken a pic of the watery non-sausage gravy I had with some biscuits. The waffle and pancakes weren't bad, but the bacon was charcoal and reminded me more of beggin strips that decent bacon. Now the service was actually pretty good friendly and the prices are hard to beat. However, if you're looking for something not out of a box for gravy in particular not sure this will meet your expectations. Maybe the daily specials would be better for lunch? Not sure but I don't think I'll be headed back after how bland and kind of sad most of the food was. read more

I got a coupon for this place in the local paper that comes in the mail, only way I even knew about it. This place is so tiny and hidden away you 'd never know about it unless you lived in the area or someone told you about it. So I decided to drag my co-worker to lunch with me today to try this place. Overall, I was impressed according to the other single review on here. I got the bacon wrapped chopped steak with brown gravy, mashed potatoes and a salad. My co-worker got the other daily special, chicken and dumplings. For $6.50 with the coupon, reg. $7.50, and it comes with a drink, not bad at all. Everything was homemade, not instant potatoes, salad could have been with lettuce other than iceberg, but I liked it. I will definitely go back for other daily specials. Jessie's has been around a while. It's a small café serving home-style breakfast and lunch. The menu rotates through different offerings each day but there are some staples like burgers and some sandwiches and salads that are always available. I've eaten here for lunch and have generally been pleased with the food; it's not fancy but it's fresh and good and at a fair price. You'll get a good lunch that's not too much to eat or too little. My favorites so far have been the meatloaf and the rosemary chicken. The chicken and dumplings are all right, tasty but not my favorite dish. If you're lucky they'll have a dessert that day too. I need to try the breakfast sometime. For the longest time Jessie's was in a narrow slice of the strip mall; about a year or two ago they moved to a larger spot a few doors down in the same strip mall. It's a nice local place to visit. Be aware that the place isn't a dinner joint and does close by mid-afternoon. read more

I was really looking for a country breakfast instead of my norm of Mexican breakfast. Although the choices for Mexican is vast in the area, and in particular, on weekends, however, there are only a few restaurants where you can get biscuits and gravy with our eggs. This place closes at 2 pm but serves breakfast until 11am and lunch until closing time. They have two breakfast specials. I opted for the $6 option with 2 sausage patties, 2 slices of bacon, 2 eggs, hash browns, and bread choice with a selection of biscuit and "sausage" gravy as a bread choice. On this occasion, they did not have the hash browns or sausage in the gravy. I received home fries of diced potatoes and regular gravy sans sausage. However, I found the potatoes to be an appropriate substitution but I should have been told that they did not have hash browns or sausage in the gravy. Nevertheless, I split my fresh biscuit apart and chopped my sausage and poured the gravy on top. I kind of liked it better because it did not have that characteristic layer of grease on top that should be mixed in before pouring it on my biscuit. This solution worked for me. I am also glad that I did not take the option of all bacon instead of the sausage. It was really silly, but I was informed that if I chose all bacon, then I would only get a total three slices of bacon. I just did not like to trade in 2 sausage patties for 1 extra slice of bacon. It just did not make sense for me. LOL My wife chose the $5 breakfast special that had a "fruit" waffle with one bacon, one sausage and 2 eggs. Again, the fruit was just a single stawberry "garnish" in the center of an otherwise normal waffle. The rest was cooked and tasted as expected. Except for the minor quirks in the foregoing, you cannot argue value as the prices include coffee or orange juice (or in my case- iced tea). The food was well-prepared and the lunch items look attactive as well. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. I was told that they have cornbread as a bread option (an option that has been eliminated in other country restaurants) on Monday through Thursday so I certainly want to come back during this time frame. I like these hole in the wall restaurants, and you should give it a chance. read more

I've been going to Jessie's for lunch now about a year. Service is always spot on and I've never had long to wait for my food. Different specials (includes a drink) everyday of the week and all are quite good. I would also recommend the freshly made hamburger with the jalapeño cheese bun. It was much better than I had expected and definitely is one of the tastiest chicken fried steaks that I have ever had. You could taste the quality of the meat and the breading was near perfect. I believe they are only open till 2 pm. I usually go on Monday for the meatloaf, Wednesday for chicken and dumplings or bacon wrapped chopped steak or Thursday for pork chops or chicken fried steak. They are talking about changing Fridays menu to Mexican food plate which I hope they do. I get the mashed potatoes with salad. The salad is large and crisp.
