Three cookie that have seemed to have been victims of Shrinkflation and price increases.
    Joe M.

Stopped by this morning after reviewing their menu. Decided to pick up 3 cookies which on their menu are $1.00 a piece. Total was $4.06 not what their menu says. Don't mine paying, but up date your menu.

They bake their own bread and it shows. So yummy! Their chicken salad sandwich is my favorite. Great place for lunch and breakfast too.

Best damn sandwich in Corpus Christi. Cannot beat their prices. The cookies are very tasty. Check out their GIANT cinnamon roll.

We thought we would visit for dinner at about 6 pm . Place was totally empty when we arrived; a very wait person say us and very nicely waited on us throughout. I had the two bratwurst with red cabbage and German potatoe salad . Now usually to me , bratwurst should be full juicy sausages of a considerable size . What I got was a little better than two hot dogs that were cut in two length wise. The potato salad was somewhat greasy and not too remarkable at all. The red cabbage was only passable. The whole thing seemed like it was warmed up from lunch , in that it came out surprisingly quickly and was tepid rather than hot. Microwaved maybe even. My partner had pork schnitzel, spaetzal and sauerkraut. The snitzel seemed ok though tepid . The serving size though was somewhat smaller than what their online pic showed but my wife said that she didn't need anything bigger . My wife said the spaetzal was good though I tasted it and thought it seemed warmed up. The oddest thing is that the sauerkraut was mixed up with mashed potatoes. The texture was weird and it was missing the tanginess of sauerkraut and , again, tasted warmed up. Is this a way to "stretch" sauerkraut of all things? The problem is they just started dinner service I guess in the last two weeks according to our server . On top of all this it was exorbitantly priced . Whereas I might visit during breakfast, I may not fit dinner for a while to where they can build a better experience. The waitress was very nice and accommodating.

I really wanted to keep loving Bien Mérité, but after three attempts, I'm extremely frustrated. Each visit has involved inaccurate and constantly changing wait times. My first attempt on 4/10 around 2pm in the afternoon. It was just me and my 15month old baby, there was only 2-3 tables occupied and I was told 45 minute wait with an almost empty dining room. I asked the hostess due to me being 9 months pregnant and having a toddler if I could just at least sit down while waiting the additional 45 mins and was told no. So I totted out my baby and myself, bought pastries and left. The second attempt I was quoted an hour , waiting the full hour and checked back in with the hostess stand only to be told it was going to be an additional hour, on top of what we already waited again. Third attempt (Sunday, April 26) waited a full hour, checked in once again with the hostess and was told it is now going to be another 90 minutes on top of once again the hour we already waited. I understand waits happen, but this level of inconsistency feels disorganized and disrespectful of customers' time--especially when expectations are set incorrectly from the start. I'm just asking for transparency and honesty here. It's disappointing because the space is beautiful and I've always supported this business but the waitlist management and homestead stand seriously needs improvement on honesty and management of times.

Came on a Sunday with my toddler, and it was very busy so I expected a bit of a wait on things. I have been here before for Sunday brunch with a large group and had a good experience, but today was not great. Got seated after only about 15 mins - totally reasonable. After that, multiple things went wrong. 1- I was initially given a high chair with a broken buckle, so I didn't fasten the straps and my toddler slipped down through the opening. She was ok, thankfully, and we got another one with working buckle. 2 - lots of flies. I felt like I was fighting them for my food. At one point I counted 5 at a time. 3 - I wasn't given utensils when I was seated or at the same time as my food. My food was served, then I had to wait for the waitress, then wait for the utensils. 5 mins of calming the hungry screaming toddler and watching our food cool down was not very cool. Same thing happened to the table next to me. 4 - they ran out of cups, and my coffee was served in a styrofoam cup with a plastic spoon. It tasted like plastic and I didn't enjoy it. When I saw that I was charged $4 for it, I asked the waitress to strike it from my bill, which she did. Individually these things were not a big deal, but overall it was just not great. I believe the waitress was just overwhelmed and doing her best.

Do not be deterred by the size or age of the facility. This place has been in business since 1940s, so the interior of the restaurant is showing its age for sure. That said, the variety of the options and the quality of the food was worth every penny (and it's actually not a lot of coins at all!). There are quite a few booths as well as bar seating. We're glad we chose the bar. Our server was upbeat, informative and knew her business. We went for the special, meatloaf with your choice of tomato sauce or brown gravy and we chose the brown gravy. It was so good. I asked if we could buy the whole loaf. They said they do sell pieces à la carte. We paired it up with french fries, and a vegetable. We also had the home made French bread toasted which had the old diner flavor and was terrific. That special came with a choice of salad or soup and we opted for the salad. And you get desert!! Small piece of strawberry short cake (angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream), all for $12. A hit! The only thing they could improve upon was the salad. It was a small salad made from iceberg lettuce and of course we got to a few of the not so good pieces of iceberg lettuce. Can't wait to go back and try some other of their menu items.
