I hadn't visited this location in years, so it felt like a fun little rediscovery. My neighbor and I were on our way to catch a movie and decided dinner beforehand was a must. She had been wanting to check this place out for a while, especially because she was searching for a good Italian market. Thanks to parking in the garage, we ended up entering through the back entrance, which turned out to be no issue at all. Almost immediately, a waiter greeted us with a warm smile and kindly offered us the choice of a booth or a table. We chose a booth for a cozier, more relaxed vibe. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful attentive, welcoming, and genuinely happy to help, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Dinner was delicious, and his recommendations did not disappoint. The standout? The chocolate cake. It was outrageously good, rich, decadent, and easily one of those desserts that makes you pause after the first bite. The slice was generously sized, so sharing was the perfect move. After dinner, he kindly directed us to the market side of the restaurant, where we enjoyed browsing the impressive selection of Italian goods. From cookies (which my neighbor was specifically hunting for) to all kinds of specialty items, it felt like a charming little slice of Italy tucked inside the restaurant. I have to start by saying that I just had such a fun time here! The staff were beyond pleasant and kind, even taking pictures of our group after our meal. I loved how they were able to substitute sauces in my seafood pasta, the Linguini Diavolo, on request. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the alfredo sauce was rich and complementary. One of the best kept secrets for an authentic down home Italian restaurant in the Houston area! D'Amico's has been a mainstay of the Rice Village for 50 years and shows no signs of going anywhere. Longtime owner Nash D'Amico and now his daughter, Brina treat every customer like family. My wife and I moved away from the city so when we have a reason to come back we like to go to the places we liked the best when we were here. On this occasion it was the Italian Market Cafe and we were happy we came. D'Amico's has a concise wine list but it features some really nice Italian wines at very affordable prices. Our Chianti was excellent and paired well with our dinner. To star we ordered the longtime menu item, Crab Claws D'Amico which were meaty and so tasty. My wife had the flash fried calamari, crisp on the outside but soft inside. So many Italian places overcook this and it ends up rubbery. And here the oil is so fresh and clean tasting. Our appetizers didn't last long and soon our main course dishes arrived. My wife was in the mood for a wood fired pizza, she likes a simple topping of bell peppers and onion, it came just as she liked. I had a new dish, at least for me; grilled salmon with a topping made up of avocado, marinated onion and tomato in a white whine butter sauce with capers and a side of sauteed spinach. They were able to seat us quickly - table for 7 and the waitress was super friendly. They have a lunch menu so most of us ordered off of that I had the spaghetti with meatball with a Caesar salad on the side. I also ordered a small Margherita pizza (take home). I went here recently to pick up takeout. The day before I did some young guy on the phone was a bit of a wise ass when I asked about a shellfish pasta by acting like they never had it. He even asked if I was calling the right restaurant. Clearly, there are pics on this restaurant page with seafood pastas, so yea I did ! In fact, I looked at the pics before calling. Now for the actual food, the next night I ordered a Bolognese Pasta togo. It was awful in several areas. There was barely any meat in it and the meat itself had no seasoning. That liver aftertaste is absolutely horrendous in ground meat when you taste it. The onions in the pasta were crunchy instead of being dissolved into it, which is also no good imo. I would've come to try a vodka pasta or tomato cream type too, but not sure I ever will. 50 years in business when actual great places like Thai Garden only end up making it for two in the end. This happens with restaurants more often than people know. Go figure. read more

They have reasonably priced kids menu too. My kids Alfredo was satisfying and the fried calamari on point with the red dipping sauce having a nice flavor. I was apprehensive about ordering the Pappardelle Pesto due to my allergic tendencies to pine nuts- however my love for pesto outweighed the risks. We were greeted with rolls for the table; it would be better warm, with some sauce, etc. I had a whiskey sour was really good, and they have a large wine selection, including half bottles. Got the meat plate as an app, and the presentation was lacking, and the portion was very large and unmanageable for one. The highlight was the salmon ravioli, and the tomato cream sauce was special. Stopped by here for a quick lunch with my partner and we both enjoyed the atmosphere and food. The decor had its own charm to it thats a bit homey but also romantic and comfortable. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available for various party sizes. Service was quick with several servers giving us bread, water and attending our orders. The lunch specials we went with both cost $12.95 which felt like a steal considering the amount of food we got. Alongside the generous amount of bread they kept giving us was a small app, entree and side. We took the time to look through the reviews beforehand, but now that we've experienced it ourselves, the 1-star reviews feel far more accurate. It's this delicious chicken breast flattened and stuffed with spinach and asagio cheese, coated with a crispy crust. Mrs. and I were in the Rice Village area running errands. We decided to pick up light dinner from D'Amico's since my brother been bragging about being his favorite casual Italian shack. Mrs called in our order and it was ready when we arrived. Mrs went with Milano panini which is basically a veggie sandwich. I went with an old fashion Italian sub. Both sandwiches came with a choice of chips or salad. We both chose the Cesar salad. Both sandwiches were flavorful with the fillings to bread ratio being on point. The salad was fresh and bigger than we expected. Each sandwich combo was $13, inexpensive for such high quality foods. The staff was very friendly and efficient. I dined at D'Amico's for a work lunch. I've always been interested to try it. They've got a cute setup. The tables were a bit close to one another. We were seated inside towards the front and people kept passing right next to us. We started off with the calamari which was decent. I liked the sauce. The complimentary bread was dry and a bit stale. I've had better frozen bread. The waiter forgot one of our drinks so I made sure to request again. He was also unable to answer menu questions for a coworker. There was a lady as well who kept walking around loudly discussing seating arrangements and such. I ordered the chicken Romano. We were lucky enough to stumble upon this place by accident. It was some of the best Italian food I have had ever. The restaurant is very cute and quaint and we were lucky enough to have Peter as our server both times. He is a wealth of knowledge about drinks and anything on the menu We had two Bellini's both nights and it was the best frozen Bellini I've ever ever had. Peter also gave me a great suggestion on wine. That was a great compliment to my dinner. I had the wild mushroom and walnut tortellini both nights, and it did not disappoint. It comes with a light butter sauce and together with the almonds and mushrooms is some of the best Italian dish I've ever had. My friend had the stuffed chicken on the last night and once again the chicken had a crispy outside and so tender and juicy on the inside, stuffed with spinach and cheese. I dined here al fresco during lunch. They're right by the parking garage in Rice Village so if you're there for under two hours your parking is free. That was cool. They give you free bread and olive oil before your meal. The bread is served warm and it's delicious. The olive oil is smooth and balanced. I wanted pizza so I added Italian sausage, pepperoni and mushroom. You pay for extra toppings. It was pretty yummy! It's enough for two or more people to share. I ate the whole pizza by myself. I thought the pizza crust was soft but chewy. The texture might not agree with everyone. I prefer a completely hand tossed soft crust or a thinner crispy crust. Still, I really liked the pizza. I also had a Caesar salad; however, it only had one crouton...The dressing is very light so people might miss the thick, creamy Caesar dressing. I thought it was fine. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. It wasn't too salty either. My waiter was nice. He/the staff kept filing up my lemonade with water so I had to tell them what I was drinking each time. My bill was $24. I honestly felt like I was transported to little Italy for a second here but upon entering was immediately seated with my family of three (got a baby btw) and nibbled on bread for a good 15 mins before I received my huge chicken parm.
