The mechanic, Jess, was friendly, polite, and professional. He took us right away and had our tire patched in less than 10 minutes. He then charged us an incredibly reasonable amount, finally explaining that the warning light on the dash would go away after driving for a bit. A competing business down the road which advertises themselves as a business that does just tires had previously told us that the tire could not be patched, and wanted to charge hundreds of dollars to replace the tire. I'm talking tens of thousands and thousands of dollars spent with him and my whole family trusted him to fix their cars. Drove far even to support a good business. That is until now. His quality of work has gone down and completely unprofessional for a car mechanic. He's a rip-off. He never answers the phone, and when he schedules appointments and you show up and there's a sign that he's on VACATION?? The cherry on top was when my check engine light went on and he said it would be a couple hours to find out what was wrong. Told him and his assistant specifically to call me with an estimate before he worked on anything. Calls me later to say it was $495 and he already fixed it. No calls prior about what "issue" it was. THAT'S ILLEGAL. My dad also had work done on his car and was told it was a certain price. We go to pick it up and now it's $100 more?!? I was awkward at first because I wasn't sure where to walk in or wait, but they let me hang out in the garage with them. Pedro did my oil change and let me ask a ton of questions about the process. I'd never seen an oil change live before so I was fascinated. He was so patient with me, explained everything, checked my tire pressure, filled up my antifreeze, showed me where the power steering stuff went, and made sure that my "check oil" light was indeed off before asking for the standard $25. They not worth 1 star. My wife hit side brick on front wheel. My car keep going towards one side. I bring it to them. They repair. I spend almost $1000 for four tire at Costco. In 2 month, I got flat tire. I check my tire. Two front tire worn out one side only. I ask them repair again. They do it again but it still worn out one side. This time I ask them repair and replace my new tire because it was there mistake and I had to replace 3 times on 2 front tire. They told me that they repair and replace 1 new tire. But still same thing happen. I bring it to the other repair shop. They told me that this is not new and they this wrong I was busy. My wife bring back to Shin's auto. Guess what they told my wife. Replace tire every 6 month. What a idiot. My wife and I realized that they done have skill and not want to talk to them again. I went to other repair shop and it works great. I hope same think happen to there family and run into same problem that my wife and I go through. He is not skilled person and not have responsibility on their work. If the job is going to take a while to complete, you're a block away from the nice strip mall with Barnes & Noble, Potbelly, Whole Foods, and other nice restaurants. I drove past this guy a million times before asking about a walk-in oil change. I had him do my brakes next. They don't look it, but I think they can handle pretty much anything. If you have to drop it off and you have kids with you, and its a nice day, next to the Whole Foods (actually next to the Potbelly) is small but nice park. Or take the kids to eat at Kevin's Place just up the block. Imagine that, take your kids to the park, get the car fixed, grab some grub and and a book, all at once and all within a couple of blocks. For some reason, this gas station and the Marathon next door always have the best prices for gasoline in this area. You won't find another gas station for miles that offers gas this low. Across the street is a Shell gas station that is usually .04 cents more. This Mobil also has two pumps which are Full service, which means an attendant will come out and pump your gas for you as well as check your fluids (if you ask) and clean your windshields, etc. For this you pay almost ten cents more per gallon. Additionally they have a full service garage which is open most of the day, though I believe the garage is it's own entity separate from the gas station. read more

You'll find that you have now found 1 of the holy trinity of three that everyone must have in a city (a good lawyer, good doctor and good mechanic) and thus it is a HUGE find. If you live within a 30 mile radius and need any work done on your vehicle, go to Shin's. They will do an honest day's work for a honest day's pay. We had our front brake pads replaced on our SUV that the dealer quoted $270 with a coupon, another independent mechanic quoted $215 and Shin's did the entire job AND rotated our tires AND replaced the pads with higher-quality ceramic brake pads for $145 out the door. Daniel showed us the old parts and explained the entire job in detail to us and was extremely fast----just over an hour which was time for a saunter and a bite at Whole Foods around the corner. Great shop. I did a walk-in for an oil change on a Saturday and they turned my car around in 20 minutes This is the first place I've found that will do an oil change for less than $35. They proved to be super-honest with pricing: they charged me $25 because my car takes a standard filter. If it didn't, then the price would've been $30-35. Shin's is a good place to get work done as long as they are familiar with the car. Dan, who used to work here, was really good (I have no idea where he went to). Mr. Shin is very good as well. Mr. Shin's other assistants are only OK. I stayed to watch them do some recent work which was a good idea because they would have forgotten a couple parts otherwise. Mr. Shin corrected them. Overall, I'd recommend Shin's for basic maintenance and general troubleshooting if you have a more common car or if Mr. Shin does the work himself. They have easily the best prices in the North Shore and do solid work for most things, but if you have a less common car be sure to watch them do the work so you know they don't forget anything. read more

Love this shop. Sometimes they're a little tough to understand on the phone because of the accent, but the work is good, fast, and the price is fair. I have been to Shin's at least 4 times now for various work from oil changes to much bigger repairs and have been happy with the work every time. I drop off in the morning, they get the work done same-day, and the price is great. They did a new water pump for me, I had the same work done by Pep Boys years ago. The price at Shin's was way better, and they showed me the old parts they had pulled out so I could see the damage. Same story on the work I'm having done now. I went to Sears for alignment (Shin's doesn't do alignment) and they wouldn't do it because they said I needed suspension repairs. The quote at Sears was brutal, so I waited til I could get to Shin's. They test drove it, inspected it, and called me to tell me exactly what it needs and quote me a much better price. I hope this shop stays open forever, I have an old car and it's such a relief to have a shop where I can get it worked on at a fair price. read more

I had serviced my car since 2009 here and I have to say Mr. Shin (Korean) is honest tech I have ever met. Often times you go to repair shop they always try to get you additional repairs, often times unnecessary. Mr. Shin would tell you when you need to get it, and he will often say TODAY is not the day. He also refer me to a tire shop down the road where I got a good discount on tires. Before then I had tire rack ship the tires to the shop and have them install it for me. This place is inside the Mobil gas station, don't go into the shop next door which also has the shop in the gas station. There is B&N book store and Whole Food Grocery just around the corner to wait but you can also sit and watch the repair being performed. I pay cash for small stuff but they do take credit card. read more

Mr. Shin is hard working no BS mechanic. He doesn't look for a ways to rip you off, just do and suggest only the necessary work. Beside regular maintenance work, I have also ordered tires from internet and had him install it for me. The total saving wasn't much but no hassle of upselling or try to add more service was worth more than visiting tire chains. I've used them before and I brought my vehicle in today as I failed my emissions test a few weeks ago. (Frustrated me as I stayed up late studying for it!!) I needed to pass that to get my state sticker. He did the work needed and called me to advise it was ready to go. When I went in to get my car I learned he had already taken the car to the emissions testing center and gotten the required test done which I passed. It's about 10-15 minutes each way and even if you are in and out in 2 minutes he devoted about 30 minutes of his time, not mine, and did not charge me more than he originally quoted.
