i came in for a tire rotation and a quote on my brakes because i suspected my rotors were warped, they gave me a quote explaining what was happening and why they needed to fix stuff. i got the tire rotation and the next day took it in for the brakes, they did a fantastic job i didn't realize how bad my brakes were until they were fixed. being a woman i was scared they might try and take advantage and try and upcharge me but it was nothing but amazing service. read more

Accurate Auto is one of about 50 locations in the Chicagoland area that are part of the Greatwater 360 Auto Care network of auto shops. Matt Kepes is the knowledgeable and affable manager of this shop. David Young is a knowledgeable and friendly ASE Certified Technician here also and upon chatting, I could tell he really has a passion for cars. As a helpful Dad's errand, I brought my son's car in here for a brake job while he was out of town on a trip. This particular shop is also part of Costco's network of auto service providers (besides selling and installing tires which Costco does at its own Tire Centers) and that is what directed me here. That and knowing they would be more economical than having a dealer do the brake work. They do good and reliable and guaranteed work and while they are not "cheap", but rather reasonable, you do get a 15% discount based on being a Costco member. You need an authorization number from Costco via their website to get that discount. They do a lot of the usual auto shop services but most of their Costco referral business is admittedly for wheel alignments (which I also had done) which Costco Tire Centers don't do, but often recommends after their tire work. I really liked the professionalism and friendliness I experienced here. Nice written reports with photos are also provided on all of the work btw. I brought my Ford in last year, and this time I brought in my Buick. I will continue to bring my vehicles here. Making an appointment online was extremely easy. Within an hour of the appointment time, they had already diagnosed the issue, performed a complete courtesy check, and identified other possible issues. They provided a link to a detailed review of my vehicle along with pictures to support their findings. Within minutes of sending me the service review, they called to discuss my options. The main issues were the spark plugs and one ignition coil needed to be replaced. I had a very honest and professional conversation with Matt, the service tech. He gave me an estimate for the work, and I felt very comfortable with giving the go-ahead for the repairs. He told me that the car would be ready the same day, and it was. In preparation for a 900 mile road trip, I had concerns about my brakes.I am fairly new to the area,so in my Google search I noticed Inaccurate Auto had stellar reviews.Some reviews were from women who where apprehensive about a fair price. Inaccurate Auto had wiped their fears away.That was nice to see but I was not overly concerned about the women thing.Ive had my cars serviced for 40 yrs.I just needed the brakes looked at. So hey I'll check out Inaccurate Auto.I made a appointment and was 5 min. late.I even called to let them know I would be a few min. late. I explained to( Emil the Service Manager) when I drove at high speeds, I felt like a fluttering when I pressed the brake.Right away I got a crazy look from Emil ."Fluttering?"he said.I further explained there was no shaking of vehicle.No scraping or screeching sounds.,No burning smells..No steering wheel shakes.No pulling of vehicle to one side.No pumping of brakes.No feeling of brakes that would fail me.No leaky fluids.Something was just " not right" with the brakes.And fluttering was the best term I could use to describe it.He seemed very perplexed about my vague term..fluttering.I could not be any clearer in my description of my brakes and described every aspect of what it was and not doing..Hence, something is up and I just need them looked at.In a dramatic condescending tone he mocked me to the mechanic who came for the keys."She says the brakes are fluttering" Then he looked at me and said"You tell him!"I told him I feel fluttering in the brake when I pressed on it and something is not right. The mechanic walked away, I left and was sent a diagnosis and estimate sheet for parts and labor. Get ready folks because apparently I had driven these bad boys to the tune of $2800.00. All the rotors ,pads and calipers had to be replaced.$2800.00!.No fricken way! My brakes were not driven to the ground.I took it in because I felt if I had continued to drive it would have gotten worse and more expensive.I told them that it seemed high ,picked up my car and called several knowledgeable people.Everyone I spoke to said there was no way it could be that much.I then drove my car for 2 weeks.Yesterday I brought my car to a legit automotive shop in Arlington Hts.Grand total $735! That is $2000 cheaper . My brakes were in no way ,in the condition Inaccurate Auto claimed them to be.This so called reputable shop had tried to take advantage of me.Was it because I am a woman,or because they routinely misrepresent the work needed to be done?Or because the manager Emil was having a bad day at doing his job.I guess we will never know. BTW I paid $35.00 for a so called complete auto Inspection .I don't trust anything they have in that report.And you shouldn't either. I went in for an overheating problem. They put in a new thermostat. The car overheated again. I brought the car back and left it overnight. They called the next day saying the car was ready. I picked it up and after a half hour it overheated again, and I had to park it and walk a mile to my destination. I brought it to another shop, who diagnosed it as having a bad water pump. After installing a new water pump, I never had another overheating problem. Maybe Accurate made an honest mistake on diagnostics, but I paid them money and they failed to fix my problem. read more

Thought I had issues with my starter on a 2014 Honda Accord. They kept it for a week & told me because the starter wasn't failing that they couldn't properly test it. After a week they couldn't figure it out then told me that it might be the battery so I should replace that which cost me $225. 2 weeks later I have the same issue & decide to take into a Honda dealer. Within 10min they noticed loose wires & cut wires with electrical tape. Went bavk & discussed the situation with Mike wondering how they didn't notice loose wires going to my starter & cut wires with electrical tape on it after having it for a full week. His response was that if he noticed loose wires or caused the wires to be loose by accident that he would fix it & not tell me. That it's industry Std which it may be but I don't agree that if you fixed something you did or dud not do that you wouldn't tell your customer. Nice ppl. Won't ever go there again. read more

Generally reliable and helpful service. We have had several older cars serviced here. They have been very helpful more than once. I especially enjoyed the fact that a free 24-hour loaner was provided during very unpleasant weather and I had to attend an important meeting regarding legal and other professional services. Another time we needed a quick but reliable repair to sell our car privately and the shop came through for us big time -- even with a guarantee on the work for us to extend to the car buyer. I often walk past this location and it is always busy -- often a sign of a solid business with a solid work ethic. Unlike most mechanics and even some dealerships' service shops, we have never had to return or complain about poor service or overcharges. This is not the cheapest place, but they stand by their work and do a good job consistently. It is no wonder this shop has been at this spot for many years. read more

Do not take your vehicle here. I got ripped off. I took my van in to get the Check engine checked out. My brake light was on the dash. I was having trouble starting my van. I was told it was the Alternator not the starter. 2 hrs after picking up the van the Check engine light came on & so did the brake light on the dash. I drive the van from Chicago to San Diego & guess what happened?? The van wouldn't start! What a shocker!!!! It cost me $250 for the tow & $300 to get a new starter & get installed. Do not come here. I can't say enough good stuff about these guys. I have been going here for some years now as it's the only place I trust. The loaner cars are a plus but it's just great service. They fix what's wrong and if something is still wrong, they will take care of it. Their emissions service is the best (if you need it) and I've had my car for 16 years so I'm sure they've replaced most of the parts at some point. I first went to Accurate Auto when my car failed the emission test twice because of a new battery installation. They could conduct the test onsite and issue a new registration. I also had them do an oil change. The dealer wanted to charge me over $1000 for an alignment. Accurate Auto said that I did not need it. My second visit was yesterday when my Volvo's retractable roof was malfunctioning. I also had them check the brake fluid since I would get a warning message on inclines. It turned out that I needed new brake pads and rotors on my front wheels, I could not believe the bill. They only charged $100 to fix my retractable roof! Plus you can get a loaner car! ‍ kind of pricey. 4 rental cars later I have now come to the conclusion that I will be taking my vehicle elsewhere. They did a few good things to the car but it's not where it needs to be and I kept getting told that I should just get a new car and I should scrap my old one when it drives fine and it's the only thing that my dad gave me before he died. The last thing they said to me before I drove off with my car was I need to show them a receipt as proof that I filled up the vehicle even though I explained to them that I was driving all the way from Cary, Illinois where I was taking care of my uncle to get my car back. I guess I used a hairs worth of fuel and they thought I didn't fill it up all the way when I did. Never had to show a receipt before until this last time. read more

I don't write reviews often, but I feel obligated to write this one. I trusted these guys because the good yelp reviews. I liked the deal they offered- $95 for a complete inspection and a rental car until it was done. Perfect. I felt like the mechanics were nice, and they seemed to be looking out for me. I just purchased an older 2000 Honda CR-V and they said "We're going to save you some time and money and recommend you don't even try to repair the car, it's got too many problems". I appreciated the honesty. But then I discovered the truth. I drove my CR-V to my mechanic brother in Michigan and we went over every detail and issue the mechanic here printed up for me. Some of the issues were totally bogus. For example- "Your timing belt is soaked, that means the water pump is failing and it's an expensive repair" You can't even see the timing belt if you don't pull off the valve cover. It was fairly obvious the mechanic didn't do that, because the valve cover bolts were obviously untouched. How could he know the timing belt was soaked then? My brother and I pull the valve cover off and the timing belt is totally bone dry. No problem. Operating normally. We replace the valve cover gasket (it was bad, cracking and stiff and leaking) and put the cover back on. $15 fix for the gasket. Example 2- "your radiator is cracked, it failed the pressure test" I drove it 200 miles on a cracked radiator and didn't overheat at all?! Didn't even lose fluids? We pulled the radiator. Looks totally fine. Can't find a leak. I replaced it anyways, just for peace of mind. It's possible the mechanic pressure tested it and it failed with a very minor leak- but whatever, a new radiator is only $100 and 30 minutes of work. Easy. Example 3- "Your transmission fluid is burnt, you'll need a new transmission soon" The fluid was a little burnt. It was brown and smelled burnt, but it wasn't black (actually it was dark purple). This is normal for an older car that hasn't been kept up, but it doesn't mean the transmission is going bad. The magnetic plug in the bottom of the transmission to drain the fluid had no metal shavings on it. That means no gears grinding, no metal wearing down. Transmission is fine. We do a flush, general maintenance type stuff, and everything works fine. It's a 17 year old car so the shifting isn't butter smooth, but it's pretty damn good. $35 for new fluids, and an hour to flush and drive and flush again. Easy fix. I'll be surprised if the tranny doesn't last another 100k mikes. Example 4- "leaking from rack and pinion, could need replaced" One of the hoses has a very small seep at the connector. A $5 fix. Fluid levels normal. No problem. He made it sound like it could be a big issue, but it was a small issue. Example 5- "oil pump could be bad" what? What makes you say that? We found no indication it was bad. Again, operating normally. In the end we did those repairs, cleaned out the entire air intake system, now everything is fine. Only $300 and half a day of work. So, one or two of the issue turned out to be straight up BS, the rest was exaggerated, and some of them were accurate in regards to the suspension system. Maybe the mechanic made a mistake, maybe he was telling me the worst case scenario, I don't know. I'm willing to believe that, because they didn't ask me for a lot of money to repair the car. They just said "don't repair it". But why would he lie about the timing belt then? I don't know. But if I didn't have a brother that is a mechanic, I would have junked the car on their word and their reputation, it would have cost me thousands to buy a new car. So I am writing this review to caution others- they might be great mechanics, but they also might be replacing systems in your car that are totally fine. read more

Never Again. I've been a long time customer of Accurate and have referred people there. They have been willing to work with me in the past and I did appreciate same. While I've always felt they may have been a little higher than other repair facilities, but since they were will to work with me, I let it pass. However, this recent incident will have me never coming back nor making any referrals in the future. I had to have an upper & lower radiator hose and thermostat replaced on my truck. Parts, labor, fluid & taxes they quoted me a price of $747. While I felt this to be high, I needed to have the repairs done. When I came in to pay, I questioned the costs and got a "this is what the book says" answer. "It's 1.5 hours labor for the thermostat replacement." I could see that, if the HOSES WEREN'T ALREADY OFF AND THE SYSTEM ALREADY DRAINED because of the hose replacement. I did not want to jump to any conclusions and checked on line for same replacement. I saw estimated costs between $400-$500. I did not just check on line. I called and sent the invoice to my buddy who is a Master Mechanic for one of the villages in the northern suburbs. He works on the village police cars, fire & EMS vehicles (he helps me work on my motorcycle so I do not bother him with vehicle repairs as that is what he does all week). He advised this I paid way too much for the repairs, way higher than the highest garage that he could think of. Again, I wanted to make sure before I called them out on this. I called the dealership to get a quote for upper/lower radiator hoses, thermostat, fluids & taxes and the DEALERSHIP was $494.00. So beware. based on the dealership estimate for repairs, they were 50% higher. They have lost a long time customer and I can never, ever, in good conscience make another referral. read more

I ended up at Accurate pretty often--my AC went out, somebody hit my car in traffic, I spun out in a snowstorm and messed up the alignment, and of course there were the usual oil changes and other routine maintenance. The team here always did a great job. I have zero complaints about the workmanship, and while the loaner cars are ancient, they didn't charge me to use them so I didn't care. They were always spot-on about time quotes, and their prices are fair--usually better than what dealerships would charge. So...why the two stars, when I was a satisfied customer for over a year? Because one time I came in with my husband, and the guy at the counter made a comment to him about how often they saw my car. It must be, he said, because I'm a woman, and women don't know how to drive. Well, if my vagina makes me too stupid to operate a motor vehicle, it makes me too stupid to go to the best repair shop in Des Plaines, also. I haven't been back since. I'll just stay in the kitchen where I belong and spend my money elsewhere. read more

For nearly 30 years, my family and I have trusted Accurate Auto Clinic with our automobile care. From classic automobiles (the family had a Rambler, but I've seen all sorts in the lot) to odd imports (currently driving a 2001 Daewoo), they have never failed to deliver high-quality work, which they stand behind unflinchingly. Mike (owner) is not only very knowledgeable himself, but he's clearly assembled a knowledgeable, effective and efficient crew. I've actually had them come in under quote several times. What? Who does that? Accurate Auto Clinic. Honesty is a huge thing with mechanics. I get it, I've been on the other side of being taken advantage of and it's not only no fun but is often expensive with no positive results. Mike is as honest as they come and he asks for the same from his staff, clearly. I cannot recall ever having a bad customer service experience. I even trust my business vehicle to them. My wife's car? In here right now. They keep me and my family safe and I don't have to think twice, secure in the knowledge that Mike and his crack team at Accurate Auto Clinic have done the work to keep me on the road for many miles. Oh, and they have a fleet of loaner cars set aside for you. Nothing can put a stop to a productive day like having to sit around a mechanics (even though Accurate has a nice comfy couch). But none of that for you, dear consumer. All you gotta do is fill the tank before you get back and it's yours for as long as the work takes. Sweet! In plain English, take your car here. You know the garage is good, when they can kick a dealership garage's butt all over car-town. Maybe that's not saying much, but these guys are good. You might even say they're "accurate." I was having what I thought were transmission problems with my Honda Accord last year, and took them to the Honda Dealership just up the road. They told me they couldn't get the engine warning light to shut off, and what I probably needed was a transmission oil change. Hundreds of dollars later, and it still didn't work. After putting up with a jerky transmission for a year, my Honda failed emissions testing. Accurate Auto Clinic was one of the highest rated garages in the listings provided by the state (A). Accurate promptly diagnosed the problem, and explained it to me (bad signals into the computer and bad signals out, making the car not run smoothly). They repaired the problem, and took my car to emissions testing, where it passed. They even made recommendations for future work that were accurate (not bullcuss toss on's like other garages). My car now runs like a dream. Better than when I got it. And with a 2 year warranty on their work, I'm pretty happy. Accurate isn't inexpensive. But they know how to read diagnostics better than anyone else I've used. I'll review again after I get more work done there. read more

This is my garage of choice, although they're a little bit of a trek for me (I've used them a half a dozen times for a variety of maintenance issues on a Civic and a Matrix... brake work, etc.). Because of the distance, I do take our car other places as required. Consequently, I compare prices and the advice I get. I've been satisfied in every instance but one, and they made good on it the next day with no fuss. As another reviewer noted, the guys at the counter are a couple of characters, but I just want my car repaired reliably, and that's what they do. Prices seem reasonable, but that's not the primary reason I go here. There may be cheaper places. Pros: Free loaner, straight shooting by all appearances, they do what they say with no games, stand behind their work and take care that you are satisfied. Cons: As stated, I did have an issue once where it seemed like they missed what I was saying when I dropped off the car regarding what I wanted done and why. A great quality and very fair shop! As with many car places, these guys know their vehicles, but may be a little rusty on the people skills. I would take this with a grain of salt since the reason to take a car for repair is to, well, have it repaired correctly. My wife and I have been taking our cars here since about 2010. Both are older vehicles (we both keep cars from new until they drop) and need regular care to stay healthy. Some items are expensive while others are simple repairs. Each time, the repair fixes or issue, or once with the suspension on my car (this is Des Plains, with some of the worst streets in the Chicago area) did need a revisit. They covered some of what was needed, while addressing new problems again fixing it and making my car solid. They also offer solid, if rough around the edges, customer service. They offer loaners as part of the repair service, asking only that we replace the gas we use. They have a decent, if very worn waiting area if you need to wait during bad weather. They are also very eager to offer a check on fluids or tire pressure. Of course they would like to do more work, as with any business, but are very ready to let me wait to have something done. A point on the friendliness of some auto places, the most dishonest ones seem to be the most unethical. In my limited experience, those who are friendly try harder to service things which don't need attention. Accurate does a good job of balancing, while still riding the rough character side of that line. Be prepared, and know your car will be serviced well. One more final point on supporting a good local business. Mike, the owner, is always ready to do something for the community. He serves in politics, is present for charitable groups, and is active in the business community. This is definitely the kind of business I would like to see more of, in all segments, in my community! read more

Accurate vs Dealership My Jeep broke down near my home in Des Plaines and I called AAA. They recommended Accurate as a local partner but I chose to schedule the tow to the dealer in Schaumburg. I called the dealer and was told they wouldn't even be able to look at my Jeep for 2 days! I called Accurate who said they could look at it that day. Since the tow truck hadn't arrived I changed the destination to Accurate. Boy was I glad I did! Here's the perks: 1) 10% AAA discount 2) Less than a mile from my home 3) Complimentary loaner car 4) Fair & honest pricing The work was done in good time for a fair price. Been having problems with my Subaru Outback. When I would make a quick stop it would die. I didn't know where to bring it that would be close to my work in DesPlaines. My boss recommended Accurate because he knew Mike. I was a little unsure because being a woman, a lot of service places will take advantage and tell you that you need something you don't. Well this place is different. Larry was awesome and did a lot of research on the problem I was having. Found out that Subaru had a bulletin out on this very problem and even found me a phone number for the corporate offices at Subaru. He also found out that my car had a recall on the air bags and remote start. Now hoping Subaru will take care of these problems. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They are rude and condescending to women. After having my car worked on here I sent my bill to someone who used to be a mechanic at a dealer in Illinois who now lives out of state and he informed me that the price alone for labor on my car was more than his dealership charges. A dealership that charges less than a local body shop?! Not only that but he also said the parts were overpriced based on his experience in the market. Unfortunately if you're desperate this seems to be a quick fix. However along the lines of overcharging they also have poor communication. I dropped my car Friday morning when they opened and didn't receive a single call until Monday. They state they have hours on Saturday but when I called for an update no one answered the phone at any point when I called. Not only that they've "fixed" things for me that were supposed to fix my AC/Heat and then a month later went out again and they basically said oh well we tried. I've taken previous cars to other body shops and they stand by their work and will legitimately say we'll figure it out. Nope, not here. Spend $1000 to get it fixed and a month later stops working again. Please avoid this place and find another option. I've had better luck and prices at dealerships and I hate taking my car there bc there's always something extra that needs done. UPDATE: My name is not Rachael as indicated in the response from Mike. Also, she was told she would get a call with an idea of what was going on and did not. She did not say what was quoted. Also, yes she used a FREE loaner (got your advertisement?) was she not supposed to use it to drive to and from work every day? Who cares how many miles are used. Also, when she was given updates on the phone they indicated this overhaul of her system should fix the heat and if it didn't they would go from there. When she picked up the car she was told the heat works. Well guess what IT DOESN'T Work! The owner, Mike... is a very condescending and rude person. I was visiting my sister and ran into car problems in this area. After seeing so many good reviews I figured they must know what they are doing. WRONG!!! Do not trust the reviews as they are obviously friends and workers of this business. I had to take my car to a REAL mechanic, have them correct Accurate Auto Clinics mistakes (which cost extra money) and then fix the original issue (alternator) When I called back to inform them of the costly errors they made I was met with scorn and condescension from Mike... (I have only had to pay for the gas I use in the loaner car, otherwise the loaner is free/complimentary) I will admit they are not the cheapest place I have ever found but for the slight extra I have to pay I am will to pay more for a mechanic shop I can trust. They are always very quick with getting things repaired and me back on the road with my car (some times I think they are so quick b/c they dont want me to putting too many miles on their loaner they gave me, LOL) When my dad brought his car into get worked on because it didn't pass the emissions test back in the day. They said my engine was locked up they wanted $3,000 to $5,000 to put a new engine in it I rejected them took the truck home later that week I went to the truck and turned the engine with a socket and ratchet turns out it wasn't locked up after all I took my valve cover off to find out it was just the timing chains I replaced them myself now the truck is running better then ever read more

Honestly the irony in their name is my favorite thing about this place. To make an incredibly long story a little shorter, my husband had taken our car here twice to get an oil change and supposedly a multi point inspection. We also took our car here because it would randomly just not start and they attributed this to a cable that connects to the battery. We paid a couple hundred bucks to replace it and they said that everything was perfect. We took the car in to have it checked out since we would be driving about 500 miles round trip in a few days and wanted to be positive the problem was solved. They insisted it was fixed and there was nothing possible to be done. Later that same day we got about 150 miles down the road and pulled over and noticed a bad (made me gag) smell and smoke from the engine. When I called AAA a driver came out and said that our battery had been corroding for some time and the battery acid was leaking out and hitting the hot engine and causing the smoke and stench. He said that anyone with any auto knowledge wouldn't have allowed someone to drive anywhere without a new battery. So basically we paid them about 500 dollars for nothing and ended up being stranded for 4 hours just to buy a new battery. An extra fun bonus was, since the battery had been leaking battery acid for miles, the front driver's side tire blew because the acid ate completely through it. I called them and left two messages and both of my calls were unreturned. accurate auto is the place to go for automotive service. they are very honest. i hav e a 2003 honda crv. i will not take it any other place. they maintain a fleet of loaner cars. if a client needs a loaner, they will provide one. mike ans accurate also service chevrolet corvairs. i have seen many beautiful corvairs being serviced there.. i could smell gas in my car. mike found the leak right away, i took a loaner and picked my car up the next day. he has a beautiful german shepherd named lexie who loves the bacon strips i bring her. mike is also very supportive of community organizations. thank you read more

My experience was excellent. The team there was very friendly, helpful and informative and best of all honest. Great service at a fair price.
