Went here for supper. I actually got a salad as I had already had eggs that day. The salad was huge and exceptional. Way way above normal diner standards. Very cute place, with a really nice staff, but honestly the food very disappointing. I had shredded potatoes that came out barely cooked and soggy. The eggs were honestly pretty questionable. The breakfast burrito i also ordered, was wet and the eggs were really wet as well... i don't know. all im going to say is i probably would never eat there again and if they maybe just tried to make the food a little more decent, they would have so many more customers than they do! read more

You are greeted once you walk into the door. You are seated and served your beverages right away. The food is hot, tasty, and reasonably priced. The portions are above average and the service is amazing, quick and kind. Definite place to take your mom, grandma, or a first date. read more

Horrible experience for our first time here. Our order was "lost in the pile" after waiting over twenty minutes. Only half our order then was brought out with a lot of confusion by our waitress. Waitress and manager did not offer to make anything right even after it was brought to their attention. Manager blamed waitress saying she was new and shouldn't be serving. You drive into West Chester (The County seat of Chester County) on Gay Street you look to your right and see the D-K Diner, and you say to yourself "that place looks great I'm early for my DUI arraignment, I'll give it a shot" ". An old school Diner with plenty of parking..you flashback Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives???,.....you stop.....you order.......and then reality hits.....the food sucks.. Signature bad dish: Any morning potato: frozen string potato, chopped and cooked in grease.. I live less than 2 miles from the D-K Diner. I have eaten there 5 times in 30 years. I don't willingly go to the D-K. The place is clean, the service is prompt, but Gus, Rosemary and Vince packed it in years ago. I have done some cogitating on the subject, and I have come to the conclusion, some restaurants can stay in business indefinitely by virtue of their location. The regulars will keep it afloat, just don't waste YOUR money. read more

Some time ago I did have breakfast at D-K Diner. And although the food was acceptable, I didn't appreciate the hostess seating me with 2 strangers. She had this couple sit at my table!!! I found this very uncomfortable! Since then, I never went back. And I don't think I ever want to come back for fear of making me sharing a table with people I didn't know. Great 50's retro look with very good food. Breakfast is excellent with good size portions. Cream chip beef on a waffle is crazy good. Coffee is tremendously good. Can't get out of there with less than 4 cups. Not fancy by any means but that's fine. You won't be disappointed. Bring cash as credit cards are not accepted here. read more

No matter where I travel, a great diner is a luxury for me. Some people find happiness with super fancy, I find joy discovering a fab diner. While recently visiting beautiful West Chester, (My new home in a week), I stopped in at D-K Diner. Authentic, perfect diner heaven. Food was great and cheap. Owner is a pisser. Love this diner. The food is consistent and fast. During the winter months they have dinner Wednesday through Friday, which is cool and there is nothing like a good hot turkey sand with mashed potatoes! My kids love going and they have the best chocolate chip pancakes!! read more

We went for breakfast several weeks in a row and ordered the exact same thing each time. My pancakes were always cold as was my hot tea, which was usually only 2/3 full. This week , my whole order was cold. When I asked for more hot water so I could have a whole cup of tea the waiter brought a whole new cup and then charged me for it! Not only was I charged for a whole second cup but I was charged 50cents more than the menu price!!! I definitely will not go back. read more

The place is fairly small so no matter where you're sitting your can hear the gremlin in the back really putting his "help" (that's what he calls them, to their faces) through the ringer. I've been there three times and I've heard racist, sexual and derogatory comments and will not be back. And the long hair monster who wanders the place in your scrunchy?consider a hairnet... Went today, 12/16, for breakfast ~ No acknowledgement upon arrival; however, everyone else that came in after me and my boyfriend received it. We were asked if we would split a table with the couple that came in directly after us (asking them first). We declined so the table was given to the other couple. The lady of that couple let the hostess know we were there first and the hostess said that she wasn't worried about us. And chuckled. After a minute or so, we were told another 3 mins. I'm really surprised at all the mediocre reviews for DK. My husband and I love this place. I'm a Jersey girl, so I guess I just love a classic diner. They don't have fancy menu options, just all the basic breakfast and lunch stuff. The prices are reasonable, and plenty of food. They allow you to substitute grits for the home fries, which is great. They just added shredded hash browns as an option instead of home fries, as well as grits. A great idea, since the home fries were the weakest link here. TIP: Order bacon as your meat, for some reason, they give you a huge portion of super crisp bacon. They also have raisin toast if you want, and orange marmelade or apple butter for your toast. I've found the waittresses to be friendly, but maybe that's because we come here so much. We can't come as often, since they don't have high chairs,only booster seats. I have young twin boys, so I can only come here on the rare occasion they are with someone else. read more

Gave this place two chances. It failed both times. The coffee is just diner coffee, nothing to comment about it. But the food is pretty bad. I wouldn't even say its as basic as any other diner. It just tastes bad. The second time I went, I took two bites of my eggs benedict and couldn't eat anymore. Gave this diner a second chance today after horrible experience at Nudy's in Frazer. The 1st time I went to DK, the waitresses were literally screaming at each other. Food wasn't special, walked out with a headache so I looked elsewhere else. Went back today and had steak and eggs, and it was delicious. Steak was cooked perfectly and not fatty. Eggs were done to perfection, and coffee wasn't weak -- and they always filled up my cup -- and collected the dirty dishes. Dreadful. Just ate there this morning after getting my fasting blood tests done at Quest Diagnostics around the corner. I have been there before but this is the worst food I've ever eaten. The home fries were inedible and tasted moldy, and the eggs (3-egg omelette), while edible, wasn't very good at all and tasted like powdered eggs were used. The orange juice was not even real OJ like most diners serve, but tasted something like Tang. And the price for all this was over $10.00! I'd never go there again. read more

DK is a long standing West Chester tradition. This is a real diner, not some building with the name diner on it. Personally, I never understood why it is common to find a line at the door any given Saturday or Sunday morning, we are talking breakfast food, any moron could make it at home and avoid the lines. All the same, those lines say something for the quality of food and service that you can expect when you go there. If you want to check this place out, go on a weekday, seating is easy to come by, and the food only gets better when the staff doesnt have to get people in and out as quick as possible. It's not that the experience suffers on the weekends, it just gets much better during the week. Likewise, there is a $6 bellyful lunch special every Monday through Friday. If you have a love for the good old classic American diner, be sure to stop in if you are ever in town. There are many locals you can find there on a daily basis, so with all the choices in West Chester, they can't be wrong either. read more

I have gone to this place many times. Each time I went I looked for a reason to like it. The eggs Benedict were terrible. The Hollandaise sauce was bland. The veggies in the omelet were frozen. My companion and I enjoy going out for breakfast regularly and although we were a little leery about the place b/c of it's exterior appearance, we figured we'd give it a try anyway. So glad we did - we had one of our very best breakfasts so you really can't judge a book by its cover here. We each ordered something different -- the chipped beef on toast and a specialty omelet of the day - wow. The chipped beef dish was absolutely the creamiest most delicious one I've had anywhere in the tri-state area! We were waited on promptly by what appeared to be local college kids and they continuously offered us coffee refills - service was better than we could have wished for. We went mid-morning on a weekday so perhaps the day and time you go may make a difference, but overall a really good breakfast place and not expensive. read more
