We finally got around to trying the Rooster Diner. It's a bit more pricey than other diners in the area but the food was good, as well as the service. I've been in the building a million times over the past 40 years and it was nice to see it all redone. Glad to see they're doing well. We don't eat out in the area that much anymore but I'm sure we will be back sometime.

    CHICKEN NAPOLI - delicious

It seems fitting that my first review of 2025 is of this really unassuming roadside restaurant. Life is like that, yanno. Wonderful surprises await the explorer. I have driven by the Rooster Diner about 10,000 times. Maybe more. It's tucked in at a busy half-cloverleaf intersection of US 1 and PA 352, next to a mid-range motel. Not a classic "diner" building, rather a mid-60's roadside restaurant, the kind of place that was almost always by roadside motels when I was growing up. A place I never really thought about, that is, until a friend invited me there. It's a bright building, lots of big plate windows and a vaulted, beamed ceiling. Plenty of parking. Very clean, with comfy booths and banquette tables. We were settled along one wall and handed a wonderfully typical huge menu of offerings. Hamburgers. Omlettes. Open faced gravy and meat sandwiches. Then, my eye catches an entry. Chicken Napoli. No. Way. This is truly one of my favorite dishes, and one I have rarely seen on a menu anywhere. In fact, I think the last place I saw it was a tiny little restaurant tucked in a 1950s strip mall in Virginia Beach, VA. My heart, well, it kind of skipped. Oh, please, don't let this be like the fake "bolognese" sauce (really just meat sauce) dishes. I crossed my fingers and ordered. Napoli is not a common "American" Italian dish, and it takes some skill to get just right - like true bolognese and another favorite I rarely see - aglio e olio. Twenty minutes or so later, after a quite acceptable side salad, a huge plate of piping hot pasta and chicken, mixed perfectly sauteed onions and green peppers, with a smattering of tomato gravy shows up. Coated in a sheet of chewy, salty parmesan cheese. It was, in a word, divine. Not overly sauced, the chicken tender, the flavors combining beautifully. Sigh. I think I got a wee bit teary for this old favorite of mine. I have no idea how anything else was, and frankly, I doubt I ever will. This is my dish, and I will have it every time I visit, as long as they have it on menu. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. Parking is not a problem, it's got a large flat private lot that it shares with the hotel. Of course I'm going back. When one finds a rare favorite done well, they tend to become devotees, right? Yep. That's me.

THREE EGGS, APPETIZER SAMPLER, VEGETABLE OMELETTE

The four of us had a good time at the Rooster Diner. We ordered the App Sampler for the table and the each of us got our own breakfast dish. I had the Three Eggs with Sausage. My scrambled eggs were really well seasoned. The sausage was not oily and the home fries were spot on. My friends did not have anything bad to say about their plates either. The only negative came from the Appetizer Sampler. We thought the wings were the only good item out of the three in the sampler. The service was good. Overall, Rooster is a good diner and the price was super reasonable.

Bacon, Egg & Cheese on a Bagel w/ Home Fries w/ Onions & Peppers

I will say our waitress was the best part of the experience. She was very communicative and pleasant. She kept checking on us the whole time. She is an asset to the establishment. She pretty much commanded the whole dining room. Food was adequate at best. I had a Bacon Egg & Cheese on a bagel. The pictures I Saw on Yelp, helped me decide what to order, I felt like I was going to get a hearty sandwich and I feel like they skimped, It was missing an egg and a slice of bacon. They asked if I wanted onions and peppers in my hash browns. They just had a pile in the back and poured them on top, mix them in there and add some seasoning to your potatoes. Give it some love! It takes 5 seconds and the pile they gave me just looked like no one cared. you eat with your eyes and I knew I wasn't going to enjoy it as much as I wanted to on a rainy dreary day.

The Rooster Diner, Media, PA. Different Breakfast sandwich #8 in the last 2 weeks. It looks like an old Denny's but it ain't a Denny's no more. I got an artsy creative vibe. I got the scrapple egg and cheese on white toast with hash browns. There was a lot of scrapple. The hash browns were brown like they should be. I was expecting more from my toast. Everything else looks and sounds amazing so I was expecting more out of the toast. $9.99 seemed a touch pricey. I don't know how I didn't get a Peanut Butter Bomb. Kind staff. Good menu. Reasonable prices. Great American diner experience. A little landscaping would serve the business well. Clean overall.

2.5 stars. - not rounding up…read more Poor service, little too pricey for what I received. Very unorganized kitchen and staff. Overall missed the mark. I ordered the Satchmo, a buffalo chicken, Italian hoagie, ham hoagie, 4 chicken tenders and fries which came to a grand total of $85. Phew. This was my first time here, but I've heard the food and cheese steaks were great so I was ok with things at this point. I placed my order for pickup and was told it would be 20 minutes. I came in around the 20ish minute mark and waited for 25 more minutes. There was only 1 other person waiting with me. I did see 3-4 other people come in pickup and leave while I waited, but it wasn't busy by standards. While waiting is when I when I observed how unorganized and dis shoveled the staff were. The lady upfront was kind, attentive, and seemed to be running the show putting orders together. But, when she asked for help she didn't get any. She asked another staff member to help bag a specific sandwich for an order, several times, and it went in the guys ear and right out the other. I could also hear them scrambling in the back working on my order, and complaining about how many Italian hoagie orders came in right at the same time. Maybe they were behind, maybe they accidentally let mine go with a different order? This is all speculation but they were definitely overwhelmed and it shouldn't have taken that long for my order. The cheese steaks were good, and the Italian hoagie was very hearty! They do not skimp on meat, but the hoagie bread was so hard most of it was thrown away. I don't care for shredded gums. Overall, not a good first time experience. Minus a star for the price, minus a star for the delayed pickup time, and minus 1/2 for the rock hard Italian hoagie bread. The steaks were good but everything else outweighed the food quality.

I haven't visited for a few years now because my last experience was repulsive…read more Perhaps it was a coincidence but I received very odd treatment (abnormal from all my prior experiences) here when we asked non-white friends to join us for lunch. We were seated in the corner by the cookie jars, 3 kids among us. The waitress for some reason could not hear my non-white friend even though she was perfectly audible to me, and I was audible to the waitress (not speaking any louder than my friend). Nonetheless, my friend had to repeat herself more than once, and I felt her guard go up that the treatment was odd. My protective instinct for them (and my child) went up as well. The food took an extremely long time but that can happen at lunch because they are very busy. What was odd was that my friend was given an order of fries she never asked for--I heard her order THREE TIMES and somehow the waitress still did not get it right. I will add that the waitress was extremely preoccupied with a male customer, flirting, giggling and acting like a high schooler (she was 20-something). I get being giddy in a new relationship but it was completely distracting her from her job and was totally inappropriate especially considering all the mistakes she was making. We also had to wait extremely long periods between being given water, ketchup (again, my friend's request), our bill, etc. Worst part, the bill was extremely high and included about $15 more than what we ordered. We were charged for the fries she mistakenly (on purpose?) gave us, and the wrong sandwiches were on there too. You know what I did? I did the "nice white girl" thing and obediently made no fuss and left a tip that waitress never deserved. It's sad I was confused and overwhelmed by the sh!tty treatment and in denial about what happened. Yes, I should have made a complaint then and there but they'd already made us late for the arboretum, plus when you treat people passive aggressively, and you make 3 kids between 1 and 5 have to sit for an hour of the slowest incompetent service ever, I had to just pay and leave because I was not going to make a scene in front of kids and the place was slammed with people so I'd have had to further wait for someone to be available. However I did attempt to call them multiple times in the days after but no one picked up during lunch hours when I called. They have no email address I could find to show my receipt and as the days passed I had a million other things to do as the mom of a young child so that's how it goes when a business has no email in the 21st Century. We were treated like crap and overcharged. I realized all my prior visits were with my family or extended family, all white people. Childhood visits were with a white friend who lives nearby, and her white family. You can see in photos and reviews I have been to this place many times going back to my childhood, but I haven't returned since and I will never go back. I got a good sense of how it feels when "odd" passive aggressive behavior seems to happen around non-white people, and yes it could be honest mistakes (a series of them aimed at my non-white friend) or it could be discriminatory. It could be that one waitress's attitude is irreflective of the establishment but this is what happened at this establishment, and the result is we were treated deplorably and I have no reason to ever return. They owe me an overcharge of $15 plus the unfairly high tip I left that horrible waitress!

The food is consistently fresh, portions are generous, and everything just tastes like it's made with care. Their breakfasts are top notch--perfect bread, with tons of options- not just white , wheat or rye...quality meats, and potatoes from heaven. You can tell they don't cut corners. Pancakes are also excellent. Although my request to get one in the shape of a unicorn was denied, only Mickey. LOL They have some homemade baked goods that are killer as well. Try the famous Bryan's Irish soda bread as your toast for a true taste reminiscent of the Emerald Isle. Better yet take one home, like I did. Lunch is fantastic as well...I just wish I could go for that more often. Try the "N" sammy if you like London broil. it's crazy good. What really stood out though was the service. Super friendly, quick, and they actually remember repeat customers. It's the kind of spot that feels local in the best way. Think Norm from Cheers. If you're anywhere near Media and want a solid, no-BS breakfast and lunch spot with a deli that delivers every time, this is it. Easily one of my go-to spots. I'm there every week. The beet salad was quite nice with fresh mozzarella instead of the typical goat's cheese. i also enjoyed the "torta" sandwich. It was a large, tasty crab-cake served burger style probably 6-7 oz. w lettuce tomato, garlic mayo, and some truly delicious fresh-cut fries w skin onI also enjoyed the lemoncello chicken served w fingerling potatoes, and haricot vert. On the shelves you'll find a number of italian specialty items: dried pastas, desserts, chips etc. In the cases you will find prepared foods, salads and sauces. The day we went in there was a refridgerator problem with the glass case and all the food items were stacked on top of each other in a case that worked. We grabbed some cooked stuffed shells and some tomato sauce to reheat for dinner the next evening. The sauce was tasty and fresh but sweeter than I like (tasted like sugar was used which I will never understand as the tomatoes are sufficient.) The shells were spectacular - absolutely delicious. Their website with a full menu is under construction and will be here soon. This is a welcome addition to us folks out here.
