We finally got around to trying the Rooster Diner. It's a bit more pricey than other diners in the area but the food was good, as well as the service. I've been in the building a million times over the past 40 years and it was nice to see it all redone. Glad to see they're doing well. It seems fitting that my first review of 2025 is of this really unassuming roadside restaurant. Life is like that, yanno. Wonderful surprises await the explorer. I have driven by the Rooster Diner about 10,000 times. Maybe more. It's tucked in at a busy half-cloverleaf intersection of US 1 and PA 352, next to a mid-range motel. Not a classic "diner" building, rather a mid-60's roadside restaurant, the kind of place that was almost always by roadside motels when I was growing up. A place I never really thought about, that is, until a friend invited me there. It's a bright building, lots of big plate windows and a vaulted, beamed ceiling. Plenty of parking. Very clean, with comfy booths and banquette tables. We were settled along one wall and handed a wonderfully typical huge menu of offerings. Hamburgers. Omlettes. Open faced gravy and meat sandwiches. Then, my eye catches an entry. Chicken Napoli. No. Way. This is truly one of my favorite dishes, and one I have rarely seen on a menu anywhere. In fact, I think the last place I saw it was a tiny little restaurant tucked in a 1950s strip mall in Virginia Beach, VA. My heart, well, it kind of skipped. Oh, please, don't let this be like the fake "bolognese" sauce (really just meat sauce) dishes. I crossed my fingers and ordered. Napoli is not a common "American" Italian dish, and it takes some skill to get just right - like true bolognese and another favorite I rarely see - aglio e olio. Twenty minutes or so later, after a quite acceptable side salad, a huge plate of piping hot pasta and chicken, mixed perfectly sauteed onions and green peppers, with a smattering of tomato gravy shows up. Coated in a sheet of chewy, salty parmesan cheese. It was, in a word, divine. Not overly sauced, the chicken tender, the flavors combining beautifully. Sigh. I think I got a wee bit teary for this old favorite of mine. I have no idea how anything else was, and frankly, I doubt I ever will. This is my dish, and I will have it every time I visit, as long as they have it on menu. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. Parking is not a problem, it's got a large flat private lot that it shares with the hotel. Of course I'm going back. When one finds a rare favorite done well, they tend to become devotees, right? We arrived and waited for a table for 10 mins when a party of 14 walked in with no reservations. They seated the party of 14 immediately and left us waiting...My daughter is disabled and has difficulty waiting long. I've been there several times before and the food is average at best. Disappointing. I don't get the impression that this establishment is open to feedback or change. Sunday after the lunch crowd. There was a tug of war over the music to play for the staff with no consideration for patrons. I mean, loud vintage rock on a Sunday afternoon? I asked for it to be turned down and for a few minutes it was. A Greek salad came promptly, in a hot dish right out of the dishwasher. The dressing on the side was partially spilled on the salad. The ingredients were ok but the proportions were out of sync. I mean maybe more than a garnish of cheese. More was brought to me. Cleaning spray was used while I was still drinking coffee. I found it really unappetizing. I got the impression staff just wanted everyone out so they could do their thing. Staff seemed indifferent to my mentioning any of this and the cashier asked how things were but did not speak English. read more

Enjoyable food and good service.. Came here with family today for late lunch / early dinner. Not too crowded but got busier when we were leaving. A huge menu with plenty of breakfast, sandwich and entree choices. We went with crab cake for one entree and Eggplant Parm and spaghetti for the other. Both came with soup or salad and given the cold snap, we chose soup. Chicken Orzo was a soothing broth with Orzo pasta, shredded chicken and carrots. Cream crab was the other and very tasty. For the mini meal, one crab cake came with two sides, mac and cheese and broccoli. Both were delicious. For the Eggplant Parm, we got a good portion of cheesy breaded eggplant in a tasty tomato sauce with spaghetti. Plenty for leftovers. Service was prompt and friendly. Parking is easy in their lot off New Middletown Road. Would go back to try more of their menu, the breakfast and sandwich options look really good. read more

I had high hopes for Rooster Dinner and was initially pleased with the experience -- I was welcomed and seated promptly, the server was very friendly, and the food itself tasted good. However, I was disappointed by how the staff handled a small but significant misstep: I was served a sandwich on the wrong kind of bread (was given rye when I ordered white). While they did offer to remake it, I declined and did my best to make do, getting about halfway through before giving up. Unfortunately, I was still charged full price for a meal I didn't really get to enjoy. They definitely check some boxes -- ambiance, hospitality, and overall food quality -- but fell short on the kind of attentive customer service that makes a diner feel truly looked after. read more

The four of us had a good time at the Rooster Diner. We ordered the App Sampler for the table and the each of us got our own breakfast dish. I had the Three Eggs with Sausage. My scrambled eggs were really well seasoned. The sausage was not oily and the home fries were spot on. My friends did not have anything bad to say about their plates either. The only negative came from the Appetizer Sampler. We thought the wings were the only good item out of the three in the sampler. The service was good. I will say our waitress was the best part of the experience. She was very communicative and pleasant. She kept checking on us the whole time. She is an asset to the establishment. She pretty much commanded the whole dining room. Food was adequate at best. I had a Bacon Egg & Cheese on a bagel. The pictures I Saw on Yelp, helped me decide what to order, I felt like I was going to get a hearty sandwich and I feel like they skimped, It was missing an egg and a slice of bacon. They asked if I wanted onions and peppers in my hash browns. They just had a pile in the back and poured them on top, mix them in there and add some seasoning to your potatoes. Give it some love! I got the scrapple egg and cheese on white toast with hash browns. There was a lot of scrapple. The hash browns were brown like they should be. I was expecting more from my toast. Everything else looks and sounds amazing so I was expecting more out of the toast. $9.99 seemed a touch pricey. I don't know how I didn't get a Peanut Butter Bomb. As my dad is fond of saying, "Nothing beats a Jersey diner." Not even this place--and he now lives close to it--but hot damn, The Rooster comes pretty close. This is a 4.5 star review. Half off because well, I'm a Jersey diner snob. The Rooster. Once you survive the Road Warrior insanity of the Route 1/352 interchange, you pull in to ample parking, a nice, open interior that was recently renovated I hear. Booths, counter stools, you know the vibe. Classic diner menu, with a gajillion items and breakfast served all day. I acutally got a salad (long story), and it was fresh and delish. Okay, okay, I had to have some fries, too, which were excellent. Oh, and there's an appetizer called "Garlic cheese curds" which should be called "Cheesy awesome balls." Oh yeah. Service was super friendly, as I found most places in and around Delco. Next time I'm in the area, definitely plan to stop there again, maybe try the breakfast. My wife and I try to get here several times per month . Breakfast, lunch,dinner we have enjoyed their food over the last few years . I am handicapped and sit at the counter and they have no problem accommodating me . Their menu is quite encompassing with delicacies to satisfy the pickiest. I prefer breakfast all day with sausage gravy and grits home fries, sausage or scrapple. Real down country food. The portions are large or you can order smaller with prices that are more than reasonable. If we go for breakfast my wife loves their French toast or pancakes. Always a difficult choice At dinner I really enjoy their croquettes with a whole host of veggies to choose from or their meat selections guaranteed to please. We really wanted to like this place. We did really like the modern take on rustic decor they've chosen for this old Denny's (and former at least one other thing) but that was almost all we liked. The turkey in the hot open-faced turkey sandwich was thick lunchmeat and a little on the slimy side. I couldn't finish it. The fries were the coated kind and overcooked. So I really like the feel of this place. The inside is very cute and homey, and if anyone has been around since it was a Dennys, they have done wonderfully with the space. I've been here twice and the first time, I got a broccoli and cheese omelette and ordered a cinnamon bun. I was expecting like a cinnamon bun with the icing, but it was a sticky bun with raisins and nuts I think? Not my speed, but the omelette and home fries were very good. The second time, my wife got pancakes which were delicious. I got a grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomato. The waiter asked me if I wanted ranch or anything which I thought was nice so I said yes to the ranch but it never came. We did get potato skins as an appetizer, and for some reason I was expecting melted real cheese on them, but they came with this gelatinous cheese sauce on top. The texture was a little off putting. The location gives off a diner type vibe (It was a Denny's at one point), both inside and out , including the service. Let me clarify that. It has a down to earth, homey feel, with a wait staff that engages with you and takes the time to make sure your meal was enjoyable. (The way diners used to be). Breakfast was a meat lovers omelette, kids eggs (over easy eggs with bacon) and a breakfast sandwich on a bagel with a side of scrapple, coffee and OJ. Everything was cooked very well and portions are a good size. Coffee was Lacas (one of my favorites) and the wait staff seemed to be refilling cups ever time I turned my head. The entire waitstaff, seemed like very happy and enjoyable people to be around. Our waitress took the time to stop and talk to my five-year-old for a few minutes asking about her day and what her plans were for the rest of the weekend. So, tried the Rooster for dinner tonight. I'll use my averaged weighting measure for the stars on this one, since there were both good and not so good. To start, it's a solid diner for sure and one I will be back to! My order was: - Caesar Salad - Prime Rib - Mash & Gravy - Corn Her we go: Caesar Salad: 2/5 Not a real Caesar Salad - it's a house salad with Caesar dressing. I would give them an upgrade if they'd put a little cheese on it. Prime Rib: 4/5 Ordered Medium - cooked perfectly Nice & Tender Could use more seasoning - but nothing I couldn't correct with Salt & Pepper. It's far above average for a diner - BUT not in comparison to steak house. I'm basing this rating on what I expect from diner - not a steakhouse and it is definitely above average for diner.
