There are so many flavors to try, 2 flavors at a time is the way to go. 3) Anything labeled as hot is really hot. I came in on a Saturday night looking to see what the hype was about. Upon entry, a young man at the counter voiced a brief "Do you know what you want?" and I indicated I had not been to the restaurant before. He did well in regard to explaining the wing flavors, however. I ordered the Wild Bill, the War Machine, and the Puff The Magic Dragon. I went to sit down, and noticed three children running around the tables. I should've sat at the bar, which I planned to do initially. Anyway, took a half hour to get the food to my table. The wings themselves seemed like they were good quality (only one broken bone) and had very good flavor. One wing actually was burnt to a crisp, however. The meat on this wing was harder than the bone and was inedible. The Puff wings were the... "spiciest". I tend to order the highest level of spice from multiple restaurants in which spicy food is a staple (Thai, hot chicken) and actually prefer the pain. It was pretty apparent the young man was trying to get people (me) out of there as it was approaching closing time--immediately after serving my food asking if I wanted a to-go box, and asking every three minutes if there's anything he could take (baskets). I was annoyed to feel rushed, especially since it took so long to get the food to my table. Maybe it normally takes that long, I don't know. Maybe they should have a cut off time for the kitchen. Also, with two other tables of customers eating, heard a woman loudly dropping F-bombs in the kitchen area. Personally I don't care but not really a good look for the establishment. Mixed experience, overall. Likely won't be back if it's just me. Will try the hotter wings if I do. Probably best to go during dinner time or get take out, definitely not a late night spot. We get home and the over cooked smash burger has been engulfed in a massive Texas toast, cut in Hal's and crammed into a Chinese to-go container! Have eaten here a few time over the years, but this was the first time in quite a few years (first time at the new locale). The new location is breath of fresh air, as the previous location was small, dark and dingy. The new location (formerly Plaza Garibaldi I believe) is clean, spacious, and well lit. I was never overly impressed with the wings in the past at D-Spot (maybe too high of expectations), but they've always had the tastiest fries of any place around the twin cities imo (the dipping sauce it amazing too). Both things still ringed true when I visited again. The fries were even better than I remembered (perfect crunch on the outside, pillowy perfection on the inside). The wings just never do much for me, though in fairness I've only tried a half dozen flavors. This time I ordered the Buffalo Bill, and they looked amazing, and they were good, but just too rich for me personally, (I had to wipe some of the sauce off of the wings because they were too rich). Which is hard to down vote a place for, because they're definitely not chintzing on saucing the wings. Especially when the service is so great, and the food comes out fresh, it's easy to rate 5 stars. I wish I could post a review commenting on the quality if the food, but we didn't actually get any. We placed an order online and it said to pick it up about 70 minutes later. We received no notification that the order would be delayed. We show up 80 minutes later and are told the order is still at least 25 minutes out (kitchen hadn't started it and they weren't sure when they would). Without me asking, they sent me to the manager who ultimately cancels my order, again without me asking, so I had no option. I have had some bad customer service experiences of late, and I understand times are hard for everyone, but the manager was unkind and unapologetic. Holy moly this is the mother load of wings!!! If you like wings, come here. My sister and brother-in-law have been raving about this place for years. I traveled home for the holidays and it was the perfect opportunity to finally get to try this place out. I think my sister was foaming at the mouth on the way there she was so excited. She perfectly planned out the timing so it wouldn't be so packed. She warned me that this place is always busy and at the meal rushes, the line can be intense. We went on a Sunday around 1 and while there was a line, it moved pretty quickly. This isn't your typical family restaurant. They play really loud metal music in the kitchen so don't expect a calm setting. You don't really notice it once you sit down. The system is to order at the front, get a number, and take a seat. As for the menu, it's huge. They make over 100 different types of wings. It's insane. This guy is a wing genius. There are different categories to help you decide. They wings go from sweet to death heat. They warn you plenty about the crazy hot wings. My sister is a pro and picked out a few of her favorites for us. We then just randomly picked a few more flavors. There were 4 of us so we went a little overboard so we could try more flavors. We ordered the Snackers, War Machine, Tarantula, Buffalo Bill, Katana, and then one of the hella spicy ones that I can't remember. I ordered a soda to drink and it was fun to see that their fountain sodas are locally made. We grabbed a table and waited anxiously for our wings. When they arrived, I think we realized our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. It was a lot of food. And the wings are not small. They are good sized wings smothered in sauce. I tried one of each flavor to start (except for the really hot one) and WOW! All of them were AMAZING! I'll describe the Snackers because that one sounded so weird to me. It's basically a Snickers wings. Caramel, chocolate, and peanuts. Sounds gross right? It is soooooo good! Especially if you have a few spicy wings. Seriously, try it. I couldn't eat a whole basic of them but I ate at least 4. My favorite was the Tarantula: soy glaze, roasted garlic, chili, dry rub, fried garlic. Heavenly. The Buffalo wings had big chunks of blue cheese on them. Yum. But they were ALL really good. We each had a different favorite so it was fun to get a bunch of different flavors and share. We love wings and so we ventured up north to this wing spot because they are known for their abundance of flavor combos. The menu is very small - wings, burgers, fries, onion rings, & coleslaw. They had a whole page full of beers but I'm picky and they did not have the 3 kinds I like (Corona, Bud Light & Mich Ultra) so I choose fountain soda. The wings were good. I really loved the Tarantula ones. (check out their menu for description) The fries were definitely seasoned but a tad too much! I had seasoning powder all over my tongue from just 1 bite. The onion rings were decent and I loved the horseradish dip they came with. It wasn't overly powerful/clear your nose strong like horseradish can be. You get 1 tiny dip for a whole basket of fries and onion rings so ask for more when ordering but you'll pay for it. We finished all our wings and left most of the fries due to the seasoning. If you're an adventurous wing eater, check this place out. Up until this point Psycho Suzi's held my personal award for my favorite chicken wing in their Dry Rub wing which is phenomenal. Buuuuut D-Spot has cleared the way and bumped them out; if only for the sheer fact that every wing I have tried from here has been awesome. Psycho's only has the one variety that was my favorite. Not only are these wings delicious but the meat is excellent quality and the wings are are sizable. You don't get any weird dinky ones like at BWW or massively pumped up ones that leave you weirded out. They also have some really killer french fries that are fried perfectly crisp and seasoned well; are they beer battered? It tastes like it! A small basket is both affordable and perfectly sized for the two of us. We have tried - Ginger: 5/5, Maybe my favorite? Delicious. Good amount of spice but not overpowering by any means. Just enough to be able to still identify the rest of the flavors. Honey Bear: 4/5, SO GOOD. Gooey pure honey flavor with a kick of heat that will leave you painfully reaching for another. This wing is the sadist of wings. Yes sir, may I have another? (Update: ever since the first batch the rest have been...different. Not as pure honey flavored and not nearly as spicy. Moving from a 5 to a 4) Solar Flare: 4/5, a toned down version of Honey Bear; tolerable spice and the honey flavor isn't as PURE as Honey Bear. VERY good though. Love how sticky they are. War Machine: 4/5, love the sweet and spicy with the undertone of jerk. VERY GOOD. Four Seasons: 5/5, these dry rub wings are savory and delicious. They aren't QUITE as good as Psycho Suzi's dry rubbed wings but are a close second. The herbs are perfect. Would love to see them have a dry rub with some savory flavor spiked with a little twist of sweet cinnamon like Psycho's. Tom Sawyer: 3/5, these were pretty good but I could taste more BBQ than I could Strawberry. Maybe that batch of sauce was just a little off that night. Need more strawberry flavor to be a Strawberry BBQ! Country Fried: 5/5, far from plain. If you count this as fried chicken its the best I've ever had. FANTASTIC. Spicy BBQ: 4/5, solid. A good spicy wing. It was the gentleman's favorite but lower on my list. Billy the Kid: 3/5, good but was expecting something slightly different. Interesting though! Wouldn't get again but totally worth trying. Blue Moon: 3/5, was lacking something. Was almost hope for a slight orange flavor like the beer! But it just tasted like wings drenched in a creamy bleu cheese sauce. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Sure messy! 7/2017 Update: We've had about 90% of their flavors now and all are so so good. Everyone I know in the underground has been yapping about this place for several years. I finally went. Super impressed! Although I like wings, I am a burger person so when I didn't see any on the menu, I asked the lad at the counter. He smiled and flipped the menu over. A full selection of awesome variations. Per his suggestion (he actually suggested a bunch of them), I tried the 50/50. Half ground bacon and half beef with a special sauce on a flipped bun. Sounded simple enough. It was simple but symphonic! It came out still slightly pink in the middle without me even having to request it (big points there!). Good beef, the bacon tasted quality, the sauce was great, and the flipped bun was butter toasted. (Single with fries @ $7.99) (Note: I usually use ketchup, black pepper, and raw onion with everything I eat. I didn't use any of them here. The entire plate was crafted exactly how it was meant to be consumed.) The fries were an added bonus - seasoned with some kind of house cajun style shake. The soda fountain serves Minnesoda and Jones Sodas!!! All you can drink. What the hey? Staff was really welcoming and down to earth. The attractive young woman in kitchen yelled through the window, "I like your tie!" The lad taking my order made pleasant and excited conversation. The interior decorator is a genius. It's somewhat warehousey, artsy lofty with a lot of black and gray, all offset by great colorful art by local artists. A bunch of microbrews on tap if you're into that. It took me way to long to get around to this place. I'm ashamed that I've missed out on several years of what I consider to be one of the best burgers in town. I roll with 6 chipotle bbq wings, a small basket of fries, and a double 50/50 (burger with bacon ground into it) with provolone. He rolls with 6 widow maker wings and the Rick "superfrico) James - parmesan ricotta frico, provolone cheese, garden aiol. Get a number, pop a squat and wait. The wings are a bit bigger than your average wings, so that was a plus. Flavor wise, way better. The sweet heat was very good on the wings. They also weren't over fried or under fried which is always a plus. In the grand scheme of things, the wings were solid. The burger was far beyond better than I thought it'd be. Good quality meat, cheese was flavorful, and even the bun being served upside down was a nice touch. I thought the tomato aioli it came with was a bit of a miss though. Just didn't do the burger any justice, and added a flavor that didn't really belong. I think a touch of a sweeter ailoi or a sweeter bbq sauce might have done the burger better justice. Still, really good though. Fries took a bit of time and were lost in the kitchen, but finally arrived. The special yellow sauce is a nice touch that was way better than simple ketchup. Honestly, Im kind of meh about this place. I came here due to a recommendation by a coworker that their wings are great. I was told that the spicy wings are good spicy not bad spicy. (Bad spicy is 0 flavor all pain.) But that they were a good spicy like mango habanero from B dubs. The flavor but also heat. So we started out slow since spice level is relative. And honestly, we thought about trying the hottest flavor but were too full by the time we finished. War machine wasn't even that hot either, so it was kind of disappointing. I didn't really have a favorite flavor. (Other than their Ranch dressing. That is a side tangent I can explain later.) But overall, I was kind of left unfulfilled. Tarantula was actually my least favorite of the 4 we had. Tarantula is more of this sweet after taste with a hint of smokey flavor. Sezshuan was watered down housin sauce with cracked black pepper. And Alfredo just stated like cheese. (there was suppose to be garlic, but then again. I am a garlic girl.. so for some they might be able to taste it.) War machine tasted like sweet and somewhat spicy BBQ sauce. But all the wings had that "added" smoke flavor that seemed redundant after a while. They did have a cool soda machine that I forgot to take a photo of. Overall, I am kind of disappointed really. This is my second visit and it will definitely not be my last. I fall more in love with D-Spot every time! SO many different choices. While I agree with others that the way you order is a bit awkward and could use work, the staff is passionate about their wings and super friendly. I love chatting with them and giving their suggestions a try. If ever there was a place appropriate for an opinionated staff, a wings joint is one of them. I actually think having ipads on the tables for ordering might work well for this type of place, especially given the huge number of options. WiFi would also be a nice addition, since the building eats cell service.
