I don't usually give one star but I had to leave this review. I'm a HUGE supporter of neighborhood mom-and-pop business and it really pains me to write this...but the cut was that horrible. What my son requested via a picture and what my son got were two completely different things. The fade was not great on the sides and on the back. He made my son BALD on the sides instead of a low taper. It was a sloppy job AND it still took 45 min! And at $30 with a $10 tip?! Not okay. I'm not sure if the barber just doesn't know how to do the cuts the younger kids like...but it didn't seem that complicated of a cut based on the picture my son showed me. We were very disappointed. First time here because our reg barber was booked. Definitely not going back and sticking with Mario's which is right down the street. read more

I've been getting my fades here for years, this shop is built into the front of a home on white road. The owner mike has cut my hair for the last 9-10 years and has basically seen the back of my head more than I have. Before this shop opened Mike & B (the other barber) were at Phat EFX on Monterey, and style masters before that. Mike eventually opened his own spot and left PHAT EFX. Mike has always taken care of my fades and I followed him to his own shop. This is your typical black barbershop, meaning that it's is also a place where their friends an family come by to see what the good word is, sports & politics are discussed freely, and of course you can always get J's and fresh gear to match that fade. Mike has had multiple barbers roll through but now it's jut him and B. They both provide full service barbering ie fades and shaves for those who have the facial hair. The quality of cuts are top notch, tight bald fades as well as others. The fade will run you $20 but includes cost of tip, a bit hefty but well worth it as the price for a clean fade will be the same anywhere for the most part. The fades are made to order and they use straight edges to line you up, facial shavers to complete the bald fade, and they also use olive sheen and an astringent to protect the skin afterward. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is only because the wait can be very long sometimes, your best bet is always on slow days or early morning before others come in. They are open Tuesday - Saturday, the weekends of course are always the busiest. Weekdays are really the best time to drop by, but you can always call ahead to check how many people are waiting for a cut. Each fade can take about 30 minutes because they take their time and focus; of course there are always plenty of magazines to read and a flat screen that will normally have music videos or sports on, plus the conversations going on are always more than interesting. read more

They are great at what they do, but when their friends or regulars come in they barely have their attention on your hair. 30-minute haircut becomes almost an hour. First thing first. This is not your local super-cuts. From the title of the store you can already tell what type of customers it is shooting towards. It was pretty tough to find many black barbershops in the South Bay but go figure the easiest one to find is in East San Jose. This place gives you an excellent haircut, they take a long time to give you a simple style but that's because they want it to look perfect, and to be honest it does. People recognized immediatley that I got a new barber from the quality of the haircuts. However the price did go up for me about 9 bucks it was well worth it. They take alot of time because its really up to the customers to promote the store because it is in a little house on the left side of the road and they don't just do haircuts, they also sell "Bay" clothes that you would find in your typical "Bay" shop on Santa Clara, and heck if your lucky you might find your favorite video game being hustled out of here. I saw Gears of War go for 25 dollars here. You can get everything for a good price, don't ask how they get their stuff but its really a good place to go to get a fresh cut and to meet some tight folks. read more

A lot of barbers hate working with my hair cause i have crazy mediterranean curls and the hairs are thick and unruly. my solution back home was to go to an african-american barber. and it worked out here in CA too. he didnt complain at all about working with hair that has some texture, he told me more texture makes for a better fade. fun conversation the whole time i was there, i felt welcome and well taken care of. the fade is bomb AF too. i'll be back in 2 weeks for sure. read more
