    Unsatisfying cornbread
    Binh P.

I really love red beans and rice, but I think I'd rather get it from Popeyes. Their version is pretty peppery, but I found the rice mushy and the sausage and meat to be a bit gummy. And the cornbread muffin that comes with it was not very appetizing. It looked a little anemic, and honestly, I think if they just use a Trader Joe's boxed mix it would've tasted better.

Beignets with ube cream and chocolate cream
    Kate T.

Their beignets are so so good, and I dare say are even better than the ones we had in New Orleans! The beignets by themself are already a 10/10 -- piping hot, crispy outside, soft inside, and perfectly balanced between sweet and fluffy. But the ube cream leveled it up to 12/10! It was an absolute dream to eat. Highly recommend.

    Shrimp Po-boy

Great po-boy, had the shrimp one and it was delicious, highly recommend coming here. On top of a delicious meal the service was excellent. I'll be coming back for more soon!

The catfish is fire. I found them at sparks social. I don't know if they are always there but im gonna have to find out cause I'm gonna be back soon. It was pretty fast considering the time it takes to fry the fish. Sit and get a glass of wine or beer while you wait.

Crawfish Etouffee with Sausage over Rice

This was my second time dining here, and once again, everything was absolutely delicious! The food was consistently flavorful, just as amazing as my first visit. The service was excellent, attentive and friendly. The prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Definitely a place I'll keep coming back to!!

Go visit your local eatery at Southern comfort food. Enjoy yourself, cause I know I did here in Hercules where the south comes to ya

Met the staff at the Hercules cultural fair in Hercules, California. I enjoy a good catfish plate cooked very well in season. Excellent food I will visit the main restaurant on fourth Street pretty soon. It's good to have some hometown cooking here from the south which I am from Louisiana Houston, Texas area living in San Francisco Southern comfort is what I look for when I eat that good food. Mr. Lionel is an awesome man. It was good talking to him and will continue to hopefully be friends in the future

This place is so good! I stumbled across it when I was at Parklab gardens. The worker was super nice and let me sample the crawfish etoufee. It was so good so I had to try the full thing! I can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu.

BBQ Oxtails "Da Bomb"! Nice one cuz!! Wishing you both Evelyn and Lionel nothing but the Da Best!!!

I'm not the biggest calamari fan, but it comes with a lot of calamari and it's pretty good as well. Onto the pasta, my favorite used to be the Spicy Rigatoni but the Shrimp Scampi is just perfect! It's so heart warming and heavy, it's such an interesting pasta. The shrimp is also very good and they provide a few pieces and it's not too much, or too little. The service is also great, they consistently check in to make sure you're helped and have everything you need. The environment is also very nice, the seating ranges from outside with or without heaters, inside at either tables or booths and also a bar. My personal favorites are either the booth, indoor table or outdoor seating on a sunny day. This place is will forever be an SF staple and I can't wait to celebrate more birthdays here.

The atmosphere here always sets a great mood for a celebration. The service was a bit of a mixed bag. When our waiter came over, I asked for some recommendations to help guide our choices, but was just met with a somewhat indifferent, "Well, what are you looking for?" It wasn't rude, but it felt a bit uninspired for a special night out. On the upside, the kitchen was relatively prompt. They did accidentally forget one of our items, but to their credit, they corrected it and brought it out incredibly fast once we mentioned it. Food-wise, everything was really good! We shared a great spread across the table: Chicken Piccata: Bright, savory, and perfectly tender. Lasagna: Rich, classic comfort food done right. Fettuccine Alfredo: Creamy, decadent, and delicious. Spicy Rigatoni: Had a fantastic kick and great texture. Overall, the food absolutely delivered, and it's a wonderful location. With just a tiny bit more warmth in the service department, it would have been a flawless 5-star evening. We'll definitely be back for the pasta!

I had a delicious hot roast beef sandwich covered in gravy. It was one of the most comforting dishes I have ever had. I remember coming to Tommy's many times over the last two decades and trying everything from their oxtail stew to their meatloaf to their lasagna. Everything here is good! On my most recent visit I got to try their lamb shank with boiled potatoes and carrots. The lamb shank perfectly fell off the bone and the fat melted in your mouth. The gravy was very flavorful. The only thing I found underwhelming were the potatoes as they could've cooked a little longer. The service at the counter is always very good and quick! These guys have been working this counter for a long time. The place still feels a little like a dive bar, but that's all part of the charm of this historical eatery.

Good wine and cocktail selection from the bar. I would pass on their burgers though which are mediocre. What makes this place 5-stars is the service and ambiance. Some of their staff have been there for several years, which is a testament to how well the restaurant is run. Since it's along the Embarcadero and close to Fisherman's Wharf, a lot of tourists tend to wander in. And this is probably why their website says there's a strict dress code. But I feel comfortable coming here in shorts and a t-shirt. The staff is always welcoming. I also go to the Los Altos Grill which is the same restaurant as Hillstone. Hillstone is a nice, intimate, relaxing spot on the Embarcadero. A little further on down the road from the main hustle and bustle where the big artery streets and Embarcadero meet, so a bit calmer and a bit easier to find parking around here. In many years of patronizing this spot, I've only had good experiences. Great atmosphere, service, and food. Classic yet modern. Lovely bar area and beautiful booths. Just the right degree of dim, romantic lighting. Always an interesting mix of locals, tourists, and corporate meetings for people-watching. The drinks and food are always excellent. Full bar and a very respectable wine list. Food-wise, we've tried all kinds of things, and everything's been great, but definitely start with the artichokes. For dessert, the chocolate pot de crème is a must. Get two or three of these, don't be shy, and you can thank me later. I don't believe I've been to other Hillstone locations, but you can't go wrong with this one. Before or after, you can take a walk along the beautiful SF waterfront. Enjoy!
