This is one of my long time favorite spots in the city! Discovered it about 10 years ago. Perfectly nestled in the central Richmond neighborhood, blocks away from the stunning Baker Beach. It's a cute and small spot but still spacious. They now have some outdoor patio seating as well which is lovely on a sunny day. The service is always a hit. My first visit to Hard Knox Cafe was to their now-defunct 3rd Street location. I liked it a lot, but it wasn't until recently when I was able to try their delicious food again at their Richmond restaurant. I was blown away, not only by the food but by the service. I ordered the blackened catfish with coleslaw and black eyed peas and rice. The fish melted in my mouth, and everything tasted flavorful without being salty. I also tried the fried chicken and collared greens off another person's plate, and they were amazing too. The fried chicken in particular was tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. All the items we ordered were also not greasy or overly heavy, a trait Southern food can sometimes lean toward. Flavors were bold yet clean. The service was so friendly. They came by often to refill our coffee and soda, and they even asked if we wanted to take some to go. So nice!
