Great Family owned restaurant in the neighborhood. Our neighbors told us about Da Claudio and raved about it so we had to try it. We were not disappointed! When I think of Da Claudio I think of lasagna. I always say I will try something else but make do with just tasting everyone else's entree because I absolutely love the lasagna. It is not like any other I've had. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and you are greeted with a smile when you enter. The drinks are fantastic and you can't go wrong with anything you order. If you love Italian cuisine, it is a must. Sadly, this establishment is a bit hidden due to location, but we found it looking for it. Inside is a large open space which I expect more at a cafe or bistro, but is very well lit and from most seats you can watch your food ne prepared in the kitchen. Our meal of choice was due to limited time or else wed have definitely gotten an appetizer, along with secondi & dessert. Looking over the menu may be a little confusing to some, that is if it's you're first time experiencing italian cuisine. You will find that they use fresh ingredients and site the source of their proteins and vegetables. I advise familiarizing yourself with dishes, and viewing the menu in advance so that you know what you want, the staff also have no issue explaining. I chose the chicken milanese with an arugula salad lightly dressed in olive oil and parmesan cheese. The chicken was so tender you could cut it with your fork, but the arugula, as fresh as it was, made the dish. My girl friend has a lamb pasta dish, a first for me, but no regrets. The pasta, made on site, is tossed in the lambs juices and other spices, maybe olive oil. If you are a fan of lamb this is a great choice. I'm glad I found good quality restaurant in my neighborhood. All the dishes are well prepared. Since I'm not a big fan of heavy and creamy food but gnocchi and speck in Asiago cheese here is an exceptional. I also love eggplant parmigiana which is so light and not oily as other places and I don't feel guilty having it. For dessert, Mascarpone and berry is the best I have ever had. This wasn't just dinner. It was an experience. Quite possibly the best service we've ever received. Our kids split the lasagna. We shared a Caesar salad along with the spaghetti carbonara and the calamarata. Both were great, but the carbonara was our favorite. Finished the meal with a tiramisu, which was perfect for 2-4 people to share. Eating during happy hour was nice for discounted beverages. Tried both the Moretti and the Montauk IPA. Not too much going on in lower Manhattan on a Sunday night, but we wanted to try something in the area after our visit to the Jewish Heritage Museum (Dear NYC ID free museum memberships, I love you). Enter Da Claudio with its 4.5 overall Yelp rating, hayyy. The space was larger, airier and more modern than I had expected. There's one large room encompassing all of the tables, booths, the bar, and an open kitchen. I liked the vibe. We had several servers, so we were very well attended to, and everyone was super friendly. The owner even stopped by our table several times; at one point he even helped our leftovers get boxed up. We ordered the pollo alla diavola (whole fried Amish chicken for two), which came with a side (we chose grilled veggies). The dish was basically fried chicken with a slightly spicy, savory yellow sauce on the side. I was expecting it to be a bit spicier, as 'diavola' usually signifies. Shockingly, my favorite part of this dish was actually the veggies, which had been grilled with a bit of oil and salt. The green beans, especially, were delicious with that little bit of charred flavor. Side note about the Amish chicken: I wondered... Does Amish chicken cluck at the modern conveniences enjoyed by the urban chicken, raised on a rooftop in Brooklyn? Does he wear a straw hat on his little chicken head? Does Amish chicken go on rumspringa? I don't have any answers, but regardless, please note that the chicken does not reheat particularly well. The size of this would've been sufficient for a full meal, but we also had the gnocchi di melanzane (eggplant gnocchi) with asiago cheese and speck (a type of prosciutto -- I didn't know what that was). Yep, this dish was IT. Asiago cheese is awesome. But I would recommend getting it along with another dish and sharing the two, as it starts to seem quite rich by the final bites. We had drinks, too. The cocktail menu was pretty darn inventive, so I decided to try one of those and settled on the "Punta Ristola", made of cognac, vanilla pumpkin puree, lemon, cinnamon oil, and egg white. Really enjoyed it, and appreciated that I could make out distinct flavors without feeling that they clashed. I also had a Moretti, an Italian beer, which wasn't really my style. We had a positive experience here. Food: definitely recommend the steak dish. For the price, definitely not bad at all. Friend calamari appetizer was amazing, too. Love this restaurant! Been here many times and the ambiance is great. The people who frequent this place are far from pretentious, which is nice. The staff is great and they're very accommodating. My only problem is that when it gets very busy, the waiting staff forgets to come by as often so if you're in a hurry when it's busy, it's going to be frustrating. Happy hour is great--good wine and some complimentary bites to go with it. Their menu is great and locally sourced so it changes often. Came here for a work lunch, our party of 3 was seated right away, the staff was attentive and prompt with filling our glasses, bringing out the bread, inquiring about menu questions and taking our orders. Me and the second person got the penne alla sorrentina from the prefixed lunch option (which includes a soup or salad, a pasta entree, and cup of tea or coffee). Unfortunately, our food took a long while to come out, the cesar salad was underwhelming and lazily served (super large pieces of romaine) and the pasta was a bit too al dente for my personal taste but the sauce was good, basic and light but good. I totally agree with the other 3 star review, service was really bad for us. Not only did we feel ignored while other tables were tended to I feel like our girl gave me complete attitude on multiple occasions. At one point she said she would be right back after she opened some wine for a table, okay...then she continued after that to take orders for two other tables. When I had to flag her down again after that she gave me complete attitude. WHY? Just apologize and we can move on....We litterally then placed our order and I asked for a glass of wine the next time she came around...she then had the nerve to ask me with full on attitude, "so do you want it like now, just really just when I come around again?" The host was prompt to seat us and take our coats, our waitress was attentive and gave us great recommendations. We ended up splitting the arugula salad which was light fresh and the dressing was so good! My mom had the black linguine which was squid ink pasta, head-on prawns, and spicy tomato sauce. I came here for dinner with my girl. De Claudio has a really nice vibe and the service was pretty good. The food was just alright tho. For our appetizers, we got the meat platter, prosciutto wrapped around cantaloupe and the fried platter of seafood and veggies. The meat platter is pretty subpar. I wouldn't recommend it. The cheese isn't pretty hard and the variety of meats is pretty basic. The prosciutto however was really good and went well with the fruit. The fried stuff was standard but good. For our entree, we ordered the gnocchi and the lamb Raghu. The lamb dish wasn't that appealing. The lamb was minced and the pasta was so tough to chew. The gnocchi, to keep pg, tastes bad. Just had our office holiday dinner party here. It was great, from the atmosphere to the food. Who knew that an unassuming front door would lead to such a great dinner and this time we didn't just have to rely on the company we came with to enjoy our time there. On a business trip I was recommended by my concierge to stop by here for a really nice dinner. The ambiance and decor is really nice, dim lighting, top notch white table setting. I opted to sit at the bar since I had a long day of travel and wanted immediate service. Tara was my bartender, very lively and talkative but didn't overdo it, she was my favorite part of this entire experience. I started with the Insalata di Cesare for $15.00...whoa! For my entree I ordered the Gnocchi Squash. This is the first time I've had Gnocchi, simply due to the fact that it seems like it would be really doughy, heavy and filling...$20.00. The dish came like 45 minutes later...what the flip? I kept asking where my dish was seeing as how it was towards the end of the night and there were only a handful of patrons. First bite...blah! It was really dry and flavorless. I asked for some cream or Alfredo sauce to get this dish out of the Nevada desert sands. Dominic came up to me asking why I wanted sauce, I politely told him that the dish was dry and needed some Umph. I could have, and should have, looking back sent it back since it took him an eye roll and another 20 min. to come back with my request. Still...blah...never again. Deuces De Claudio! They take reservation - a plus when you have a large crew dining with you. And the happy hour menu is offered throughout rather than just bar seating (like most places nowadays). The decor inside made it feel like it was two separate restaurants, with two different styles of furnitures. Both quite elegant so it didn't trouble me much. The happy hour drinks and appetizers are decent and made them more affordable. Avoid the fried seafood platter though. It came out a little too greasy and with more vegetables than the seafood itself. For the main dish, order the black linguini. It came with 4 grilled prawns. The sauce is arrabiata style so a bit on the spicy side which is to my liking. Without this dish, it would have been an average 3 stars. I'd come back just to get this again. This place is tucked in a random corner in Fidi in lower Manhattan and was hard to find. However, I'm so glad there's a decent Italian restaurant in Fidi! This place was a pleasant surprise. It's a low-key casual, modern Italian place with good service and locally sourced Italian food. It seems like they're trying very VERY hard to combine traditional Italian cuisine with modern/Fidi aesthetics. I saw things on this menu I haven't seen since I went to Italy a few months ago (and I eat a lot of Italian...). Our waiter also spoke in an Italian accent which was cute. We had an appetizer special with burrata over a mix of poached pears, arugula and mushrooms. A really savory start to what would ultimately be a very filling meal. Had the Gnocchi with spring vegetables ragu - there was bacon in this! Beware vegetarians, but otherwise it a large portion and very delicious And the Fusilli with lamb ragu. This yelp page raves about this dish and the praise is well-deserved. IT. WAS. FANTASTIC. Perfectly al dente and the lamb ragu was braised with a lot of flavor. For dessert, we had the ice cream cake, which was slightly disappointing - it was essentially a strawberry gelato topped with a graham cracker crumble on both sides. All in all, a really good place for a very filling, traditional Italian meal, a lot of vegetarian options on the menu (but double check with your server that they don't add pieces of bacon, etc in them!).
