A walkable distance from the One World Trade Center hidden between the streets of Theatre Aly & Park Row. If you don't know the FiDi area like me, most likely you wouldn't be popping in here unless you were super hungry. Everyone seems really friendly and nice, but there was a tiny hiccup that definitely affected my overall experience. When ordering, they got put in one of the pasta incorrectly and did not do much about it. I really wanted the black linguine but instead, it was replaced by the trofie baby octopus... I usually would let it go, but I couldn't because it was the least favorite of all the dishes I tried. If I had the charred octopus as an appetizer, why would I get a pasta dish with octopus!? On the bright side, the filei with lamb rago and spaghetti carbonara were all on point. Not gonna lie but this restaurant had it all. Good food, good service, and great price!!! My bf came here on a Monday night for a casual dinner and found this place. Honestly I wasn't expecting anything special but I was so wrong. We ordered the soup of the day, the wagyu beef lasagna and alle vongole pasta. We didn't know that the soup of the day was cold (so ask if you aren't sure!) so we sheepishly had to ask the waiter to warm it up or else it was just repulsive to eat. As Asians, we rarely eat food cold so it wasn't appetizing :( the waiter was more than happy to help us out and even apologized more than we did! He brought out bread for us with an olive oil spread and checked up on us a lot. Mr. Cook the waiter is THE BEST!! Next up was the lasagna--honestly the best lasagna I've ever had!!! It's not overly saucy like other lasagnas and focuses more on the meat than the tomato sauce. I loved how the pasta was cooked too. The vongole is a seafood-type pasta with clams and that was very yummy as well. Loved the sauce and there's a lot of clams :) Such a great experience here!! OK, so I'm a New Yorker at heart. Grew up here, love it here, and when I had the opportunity to come back and show a friend some of the highlights, we ended up in the Financial District. Yelped a few places and ended up at Da Claudio because of the reviews. We were greeted very quickly and the trendy place, we noticed was LOUD. Like, annoyingly loud where you couldn't hear each other from across the small table. It wasn't a huge place, so I'm guessing it's the high ceilings or something that made the noise just echo and amplify. Whatever the cause, it was just too loud. Way, way too loud. I expect that from a nightclub, not a restaurant that holds 50 people. What made it worse was our server, Rita, was so soft spoken and couldn't be bothered to answer our questions on the menu (which was largely in Italian and hard for us to understand). Mind you, I know her name was Rita only because it was written on the receipt, not that she did any type of introduction. Again, I'm a NY'er and there's a difference between being from "NY" and just being inattentive... and I think we all know when you are in the service business, being inattentive and/or rude doesn't make your customers (or your tips) eager to please. It was as if she couldn't be bothered and we were turned off by this. After muddling through the menu, we decided on some basics, I got the ravioli and a salad and my friend ordered a salad and pasta with meat sauce. His house salad looked great. My salad was (I don't remember the name) but some greens with some pecans and was supposed to have some kind of spicy sausage in it. Well, it didn't. The salad was bitter and was forgettable. After a few fork fulls, I was done. The ravioli I had was the star of the show. It tasted fresh and the sage that was made with it, really made the flavor pop. Rita, however, was non-existent and never came by to check on anything. My friend said his pasta was fresh but "bland." I'm a desert person, so I was hoping that desert would be a star, but it fell short. I had some type of a chocolate crusted "pie" served with a scoop of what was supposed to be cheese flavored ice-cream. The pie tasted like it had sat for a bit and the ice-cream tasted like an "off-vanilla". My friend had the tiramisu and said he's had better tiramisu at chain restaurants. That being said, our bill was nearly $150, which is typical for NY, but what wasn't typical was the lack of flavor and overall "experience." Starting cheese and salami platter was of low to medium quality, salad was mediocre, the calamarata pasta was not so good, the lasagna were ok to good, the papardelle were ok. Located in the financial district, it's very close to the WTC (a walkable distance/short Uber ride). Definitely my favorite Italian restaurant and more superior than the ones in Little Italy, in my opinion. We had a hard time finding this place because the sign doesn't really stand out and the location is kind of hidden in a way. However, upon walking in, I loved the ambience of Da Claudio's. It's a little dark if you come here in the evening, but very romantic with the lighting and candles. It's a place where you can hold a conversation with people because the background music isn't obnoxiously loud. Despite the Italian comic strip art they had hung up on the walls, it wasn't childish at all. The waitress was super friendly! Very attentive service, where she made sure our glasses were always filled and would ask us if we needed anything or if everything's okay. At the end of our meal, we were given complimentary chocolate biscotti, which were absolutely delicious! We started off with the Fritto Misto, which is fried calamari, shrimp, fish, zucchini, and lemon with spicy aioli for dipping. The flour/fried part did not overpower the main ingredient--vice versa. I ordered the spaghetti carbonara. The smoked pancetta added a lot of flavor to the pasta in every bite. Very filling. I also tried the squid ink linguine, which is probably my favorite and a must-try from here! When the dish first arrived, you could smell the potent scent of squid. While staying in the area for a work conference, I stumbled upon this place. I was warmly welcomed into the restaurant. Then, Tara at the bar helped guide me through all my choices with accurate descriptions of the wine, a suggested artichoke app, and out of 5 different options steered me to the Gnocchi. The food! Seriously the food was SO great. The Gnocchi was melt in your mouth and balanced with the fresh flavorful pesto. I was torn between the Moose and Tiramisu, Tara guided me to the Chocolate Moose and I did NOT regret it. The overall experience of the fresh flavorful food, service, and ambiance was perfect. So happy Claudio and Linda had reopened after Barazini and glad to see they had a chance to take a break and visit Italy this summer! Overall the food was fresh and tasty. The octopus sadly was not charred but simply grilled. The combo with potatoes, tapanade and capers gave it good flavor. Pasta with lamb ragu was tasty, though minced lamb cut differently (shred perhaps) would have been better. Caesar salad was tasty with parmesan chips as a nice touch. Price point too high at $15. Salad was enough to share , though a tad too much dressing. Service was uneven as single server for all tables with one in training. All fixable though, as finished app plates remaining on table, no offer for parm cheese etc.. Leonardo bus boy was fantastic. My boyfriend and I came here for lunch after seeing all the glowing reviews. Unfortunately, I was surprised at how poor the service was for such a high rated restaurant. Everything was fine in the beginning. We were eating our appetizer when the table next to us got seated. As we were waiting for our entrees we were surprised when the table next to us received their dishes before us; mind you, the restaurant at this point was just about to start the lunch rush (we had placed our orders when there were only two other tables in the restaurant). We were a bit surprised, but waited patiently as we weren't in that much of a rush. After 20 more minutes, I turned around and looked at our waiter about 3 more times seeing if he'd take a hint. Nope, we had to flag someone down and remind them. I think we might've been forgotten, as two other tables who got seated long after we did started receiving their entrees... When our pastas arrived, I can tell my carbonara had been sitting out because the sauce had congealed on top, and the sauce was also broken and the eggs had scrambled. The flavor was nothing special, I've had better carbonara day other restaurants in LA. And to top it off, I don't think our waiter checked up on us not once. We've had to flag someone any time we needed anything. I really wanted to like this place, but the lack of service put a bad taste in my mouth, even after trying to be patient and understanding. Very impressed by this little Italian/contemporary American place in the FiDi area. Service was very efficient and friendly. Food was absolutely delicious: I ordered the linguine nere (black linguine) with prawns in spicy tomato sauce. The linguine was just the right texture and its savoriness mixed with the sweet-spicy background of the tomato sauce was perfect. I also really appreciated how the prawns were sliced open, making it super easy to extract the meat and not make a mess. They also have a great selection of wine. I ordered a glass of Riesling from the "sweet and fruity" section-it was marvelously crisp and refreshing! Prices were also very reasonable for the quality of the food and the environment was relaxed yet classy. Definitely a winner! Great for lunch. Been here a while, traveling from San Francisco and wanted good food and service most of all. Let's start by saying the service was top notch...! To follow was the drinks, which where very pleasing. Ordered our food and along came bread and olive oil. Once our food arrived I have to admit we where all so pleased. AND the food was DELICIOUS!!! The lasagna was something I would love to have once more before I leave, my fiancé had the fish and our daughter had the spaghetti. Everything from start to finish was spectacular. After a day of showing some friends around downtown Manhattan, I thought I would try this place based on the positive reviews on Yelp. However, I wish I had paid more attention to the health violations posted on Yelp regarding improper handling of their raw foods. I ended up trying what seemed like their most popular dish on Yelp, their squid ink pasta, and suffered from severe food poisoning! I suspect it was related to the shrimp in the squid ink pasta. In one of their Yelp health violations, they had an issue where "smoked or processed fish was held above 38 °F" which I failed to have noticed when I was reading their Yelp reviews. Sadly, I will NOT be coming back here, as the food was not worthy of nausea and BAD stomach pain for a few days. read more

Da Claudio's is an inviting space that has delicious food and drinks. I've been here a few times with friends after work and it always delivers. Yesterday, we sat at the bar, and what was supposed to be just a drink or 2 turned into nearly 5 hours. You never feel rushed, the food is delicious and fresh (everything from the grilled octopus and crostini's to the black ink pasta and the salads), and the service is excellent. The bartender Gabriel, who really was more of a mixologist, after asking what type of base liqueur I most liked, created drinks for us that weren't on the menu. We named it the Serendipity, so be sure to ask for it if you like gin, pomegranate and mint. If I were to make one suggestion it would be to play music that was a tad more lively , but that's just one person opinion. This place is a real gem in the financial district. read more

I visited this restaurant with a couple of my friends. I had heard good things so made a reservation. I was greeted warmly, the service was attentive and charming, and the food was good. However, the next day I felt incredibly sick; like not-able-to-get-out-of-bed sick. I got terrible, terrible food poisoning. I have a long history working in kitchens and food service, so I know these things can happen. I wanted to let the restaurant know so I gave them a call. A man answered the phone and I asked simply, "hello, is the manager available?" He said no, so I went to say "I am not mad or anything, but wanted to let you know..." and I was immediately disconnected from the call. I called back and the same person answered, I immediately said "I am not angry, and know these things happen, but wanted to let your team know that I ate there last night and got terribly sick from my dish." He responded, angrily, "no, you didn't get disconnected, and don't call again!" and hung up on me (again). I really wanted to like this place. It's right next to work and I wanted to have a place to bring coworkers for dinner and happy hour. I wish they would have listened to me and had some empathy and a desire to improve, but instead, they just treated me rudely and didn't even inquire about which dish made me sick (the squid ink pasta with shrimp; the table shared everything else but that's the only thing I had alone). Due to the way that I was treated by the man on the phone, I will not be coming back, and I will not be recommending this restaurant to my friends and colleagues. If you decide to go anyways, I suggest steering clear of the seafood. I'm not sure if it was the pasta or the shrimp, but something there ruined my day, and as soon as you pay your bill they no longer value your health or good service. read more

There was a lot of food and very good. My coworker said the linguine was so delicious and she polished it off in record time. We then ordered the torte and the "beignets" that the waiter recommend. Those "beignets" were creme puffs NOT beignets. I was quite disappointed by that because I'm not such a huge fan of creme puffs and would have opted for something else. My coworker said the torte was just okay. Basically, DONT TRY THE DESSERTS. Stick with the pastas. The ambiance was quite funky - it was swanky yet there were comic posters as decorations. We ordered the black linguini with prawns and the meat and cheese platter for 2, this was just a quick stop for cocktails and and a "snack". The meat platter was good. But here's my gripe, which will explain the 4 star rating instead of 5. We were literally the only patrons, yet it took a long time for our food to come out, like 30-40 mins. There were at least 5 wait staff employees and 3 ppl in the kitchen, I think this needs improving. They did apologize, some problem with the meat slicer, I guess. Found this hidden gem based on all the fab Yelp reviews after visiting the One World Observatory. I was in the mood for some good authentic Italian cuisine and this place def didn't disappoint. Started off with the frito misto which was fried calamari and shrimp and absolutely delicious. For our main the BF and and I went for Garganelli which we both enjoyed. Pasta was cooked to perfection and the wagyu beef with the Parmesan cheese was flavorful. We were too full for dessert so next time I'd consider skipping the appetizer to taste their Tiramisu. I was looking on Yelp for a great date restaurant near the financial district and found this place. I got a reservation for 7pm and my gf and I strolled in a few mins late and they didn't say anything. Yay. As for the ambience, nice and upscale and modern with some classic twists. The service was fairly good, although we did wait awhile for our main course and the check took a bit of gesturing as well. The food itself was overall good but not excellent. The bread basket they did was cool especially how they make the olive spread and hand you a wooden spoon with the handmade spread - probably the coolest way of doing bread you can think of. The salad was also good and special shoutout to the cocktails which were mixed to perfection. Dessert of chocolate with ricotta was also perfect and melted in your mouth. Negatively though, I think for the price they charge your entree needs to be seasoned perfectly. My lasagnette with ragu, despite being locally sourced and pasta made on site, needed lots of salt and black pepper to save it from being bland as did my gf's.
