We had a terrific dinner down here in Little Italy on a perfect spring weather night in NYC. Sat outside on a midweek evening when it wasn't too crazy crowded as compared to weekends here. We decided to try Amici and glad we did. Nice service, solid food, reasonable prices (for the area), and good portions. Cozy and clean restaurant. Antipasto Freddo to start, Spaghetti Bolognese, and Gnocchi Pesto as our mains. All prepared well and very tasty. They also had good happy hour drink specials going on which we took advantage of. Highly recommend Amici! The staff is wonderful and so attentive. The food is excellent, too. I generally avoid Italian (as, being half Italian, I can make some great dishes at home) because it often disappoints - especially in tourist areas - but Amici's food is genuinely on point. The pasta is fresh and al dente so I fully recommend ordering a plate, along with any other apps or entrees that tickle your fancy. The space is cozy but efficiently set up, and you also have the option to sit outside (though I like sitting inside). Amici restaurant is an Italy eating experience in NYC. I do judge restaurants by the fried calamari, this was golden light and still crispy , a total delicacy. The risotto three fungi and the chicken parmigiana, were both perfectly tender, the mushrooms in my risotto are to die for, yes ! I am still here, I found here a fellow Ecuadorian super professional waiter, also the manager, Gulian, is such a kind gentleman with soft manners that you would think he is french ‍ but no, he is half Italian. We picked this place in part based on other Yelp! reviews, and of course it was in Little Italy. I made a reservation for 6:30 pm via OpenTable. Confirmed the reservation. We get there about 6:20 pm and are greeted by a guy out front with a Russian accent, smoking a cigarette, who bids us welcome and asked if we're there for the "group" for which I initially responded yes, because I thought he had asked about a reservation. My bad. After clarifying, we are gestured to enter, but at the same time the guy's countenance turns more bleak as he realizes something is wrong. The "group" is huge. 3 x tables of 12 each for about 36 people. And they didn't realize that they had other reservations so they didn't have a table for us. They effectively chased out two woman finishing some wine and I felt bad (Ladies, if you happen to read this, I'm sorry). So we were seated. It was loud. The large group had been seated but they were still getting drinks to them. We were given tap water. About *twenty* minutes later, a waiter had the foresight to bring us some bread. Nothing at all special, likely from Whole Foods or something. No menus. No beverages. No wine list. It is clear that the small bar, and small kitchen have NO way to cope with the fact that somehow they have to deliver meals to 36 people simultaneously, plus the remainder of us guests in the "gutters." Another overpriced and mediocre tourist trap. We got the chicken parm and spaghetti bolognese. Despite an empty restaurant, it took us 30 minutes for 2 dishes. The ingredients are straight out of your budget supermarket with horrible box pasta and $1 dollar canned tomatoes. The chicken was even burnt in some places. The worst part is a mandatory 20% gratuity! By the way, it's illegal to not disclose mandatory gratuity and we poured over their menu looking for it. Even when you pay your meal on the pocket card swipers, it asks for an additional tip. Avoid this place at all costs, even if there's no other options. read more

The first thing you notice on the way into Amici is how refreshing little Italy is compared to Chinatown. Chinatown is loud, dirty, stinks, and is full of scam artists and criminals. It's zero fun to be there. In little Italy they have the streets closed to traffic and people are strolling the streets and the smalls are amazing. Amici doesn't look fancy or nice. The sign is just white with bold red letters. The tables are sticky and small. The dining are is tiny. But the service and food are good and the prices are ok. We started with the meat balls. Very good for an all beef meatball. They should go with a 3 meat version. It's clearly superior. I had the veal parm. It's as good as it gets. The red sauce is a bit too sour on the side of pasta, but the pasta was cooked well. Wife and daughter both had the pasta fettuccine. My daughter had red sauce, my wife had garlic butter and white wine. The seafood was really plentiful and my wife's pasta was a master class in texture and saucery. Tiramisu was delicious. read more

We were served cold bread while waiting for our entrees. I didn't mind the bread being a bit colder than room temperature. However, my friend said it was disappointing that it wasn't warm. The food was tasty. The pasta was al dente. The sauce tasted fresh and was very flavorful. I also got tons of cheese and fresh cracked pepper. I've been here maybe 10 times over the last 20 years. It used to be called Amici II. A lot of restaurants sustain excellence for only a brief time, and as personnel changes, so does the quality. I can tell you that this place stands the test of time. This evening, I had an AWESOME red sangria with one of the finest Spaghetti Bolonese that I've ever had. I tried a slice of pepperoni pizza that my friends ordered. It was nice and soft, very good. If there is one thing I would improve, it's the bread. Every table gets a basket and oil and vinegar is already present. The bread isn't bad... but it's served room temperature. The butter, if you ask for some, it's served right out of the refrigerator. I expect better bread--even though it's free--from a restaurant of this caliber. Still though, I won't remove a single star. The service made up for it. Very nice folks working here. read more

I've found it - the best aglio e olio in town! It's such a simple dish that leaves no room to hide. The smallest shortcoming (raw garlic, undercooked pasta, overseasoning, etc.) can be disastrous. Fortunately, Amici's rendition is absolutely perfect. It is very garlic heavy but the garlic is cooked down perfectly resulting in an extremely flavorful, almost sweet, umami taste. The pasta was also cooked to perfection - al dente but still slurpable, just how I like it. They were generous with the portion, as well as with the complimentary sides of bread and freshly grated cheese. As close to what you can find in Europe as you can get! Considering this place on Mulberry Street in Little Italy, it does cater heavily to tourists but don't let that deter you. I actually think it's an underrated spot - it doesn't have the flashiest sign or trendiest menu but it's just damn good food at a relatively reasonable price. The Penne Alla Vodka was one of the BEST dishes I've had in a loooooong time & the Tri Colore Insalata was also a refreshing and delicious! This place is right in the heart of little Italy. The staff were super friendly and kept checking in us every few minutes to make sure we didn't need anything. They have a very intimate family like atmosphere in there resturant. I got the penne vodka and added the Italian sausage. It was pretty good. It was a decent price paid under $200 for an appetizer, 3 main courses, and 2 desserts. The only thing I did not love was that the restaurant adds an automatic 20% gratuity fee. Stopped on Mulberry St to grab some dinner. I was skeptical at first as this was on the main strip and as you know, restaurants on the strip can be touristy. There was no wait so I took a stab at it. We got there a little early but they seated us immediately (they had the table ready). Service was super fast. The fresh bread was delicious. The arancini were super yummy. Crispy but moist inside. We ordered 3 entrees to share and it was the perfect amount of food since we couldn't take leftovers. The chicken francaise was the best I've ever had. Super lemony in a good way. The penne vodka was fantastic, plain and simple. The gnocchi pesto was also super yummy and creamy. I'm not a big gnocchi fan but I loved this. Anytime we needed something, the servers helped immediately and didn't rush us even if they got busy. The location is a bit small and the bathroom is tiny but totally worth it. Stopped by here a couple weeks ago after spending an afternoon in NYC. The parking was a little tough...but manageable. Heard about Amici's so we decided to stop in. Glad we did. We got the cold antipasto with an assortment of cold-cuts and vegetables. Also got some roasted peppers with cheese. Plenty for 2. Fresh and tasty. We got a bottle of Merlot for the meal and of course it was fine. Prices vary...but not too bad. We started our meal off with a couple salads. A caesar salad and a tri-color salad. Both plentiful and tasty. For the main course My Girl ordered Gnocci with Pesto and I got Vitello Sorrentino(Veal). Both dishes were very good. We enjoyed our meals very much. Good service...fair price. We both skipped dessert and had a couple espressos and called it a Night. We will be back soon. When on Mulberry St. NYC you should try and check this place out.
