The chicken bone in thighs are HUGEEE, a 2 pc plate is definitely a sufficient portion. The fried chicken is some of the best, juicy inside and super flaky and crispy outside. The spicy garlic sauce is perfectly sticky and has great flavor. The mac salad is creamy and includes potato. I'd rate the CPC plate 6/5 - DA BOMB! We also got a spam musubi, which was delicious, good spam to rice ratio and yummy sweet sauce. 5/5 musubi. I also tried their DHK bowl which is a huge bowl including poke, kalua pig (or lau lau), seaweed salad, and lomi salmon. I liked that it was an option to try a little bit of everything. The ahi poke was super fresh, with minimal sauce. The seaweed salad was sweet and not very fishy. The kalua pig was tender. The lomi salmon was probably my least favorite because it was pretty salty. I love this place. If you order 1 thing get the Chili Pepper Chicken. A unique blend if spices and sweetness. Crunch and crispy is freaken fantastic. Let me put on though they got that real hawaiian poke. The spicy garlic tuna is so good. The DHK bowl has both kalua pork and poke it is divine. Then there lemonade is so refreshing. Because of this, the chicken gets a five out of 10, with so many great chicken places here in Orange County, and in California for that matter, there is so much competition and other alternatives that you can get that know how to properly brine and seasoned their chicken meat. An online reviewer on YouTube gave this one of the highest praises, which set my expectations probably too high, but, I stand by my review on the Chicken. Also, the macaroni salad is extremely bland, and seems like a waste of calories. The shredded cabbage that the chicken sits on top of, which is one of my favorite things to eat in Hawaiian places and places like this, as the cabbage really soaks up all the chicken drippings and everything, was very bad tasting. It tasted like the bag that it was obviously stored in. Obviously very unfresh and unappealing. I understand, it's hard for a restaurant to keep their cost down, but keeping cabbages on hand and slicing them daily and putting day dots on them is not a hard thing. I worked at restaurants and this is very lazy of this establishment. The cabbage is horrible. This also led to the coleslaw being not worth ordering for four dollars. A big letdown and a big disappointment. Also, I ordered both kinds of chicken, and I couldn't tell the difference between the Peppa Chicken and the other. Also, we got the food to go, and they rapid tightly in paper bags, which makes it sweat, and it ends up being less crispy than it normally would. So this has to do with their stand at the Heritage of Aloha event this weekend (Saturday) in Santa Fe Springs. I had bookmarked this place but after my experience with their foodstand, I'm hesitant to try their brick and mortar store. So the HoA event started at 10 am. People started lining up for their stand around 9:45 am. They didn't open at 10...or 10:15 or 10:30. I finally asked they said 15 more minutes. 10:45 came and went. We finally heard 5 minutes until opening at 10:55 am. 11 am came and went. They finally opened at 11:10 am. When I finally place more order, they didn't have the smoked meats or port musubi. What a let down. So I had to order the Kalua Pig and Spam Musubi. When I asked how much longer it would be for the smoked meat, the "auntie" said at least 30 minutes to an hour...which means in Hawaiian...sometime later today maybe before we close. Food wise, it was okay. Nothing special. Definitely not food worthy of going to their store. And they didn't even provide utensils when I picked up my food. Note to whoever runs this at events. If you're not going to open until 11 am (an hour after the event begins) at least put a sign out. And if you're not going to have certain food items ready an hour after you open, do better and be more considerate to the customers who had been waiting over an hour and now walked away disappointed. read more

We've been coming here for years, and it had been awhile since our last visit. We were in the area and my husband was craving Lau Lau. Unfortunately, it's not served mid week. However, she did offer to make it with a 50 minute wait. We were headed to the beach, so that was not an option. Instead we ordered the 3pc Chili Peppa Chicken plate which comes with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad. Although the chicken was still delicious, the chicken pieces were a lot smaller and the prices a lot higher. The food was ready fairly fast. This is Da Hawaiian Kitchen. Interior Inside is a small hallway leading up to the counter. There is a lot going on with multiple pictures on one wall, hand written menu on the other, and a large whiteboard with more menu items behind the register. It's a lot to take in so you'll have to take a moment to orient yourself. Once you decide what you want you'll order the food, pay, and wait outside for your number to be called. Seating There is no interior seating and outside only has two picnic tables with umbrellas to provide shade. If you're lucky you'll get those seats, although the umbrellas only cover so much. You'll see lots of people taking food home or eating on their cars where there's shade from a tree just a little ways away in the parking lot. Price For Hawaiian food, it's a bit expensive. For example, their popular fried chicken sandwich, the CPC Sandwich, is $8.64, their Loco Moco is $17, and their plate lunches can range from $16-24. Food I found all the food to be filled with flavor and fresh. Even though you see their poke on display when you receive it the fish is tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Served over rice and the sweet and briny flavors become accentuated bursts of tastiness in your mouth. The CBC Sandwich is crispy, rich in flavor with their spicy garlic sauce, and the brioche bun just continues the whole package of tastes. The different textures all work well, just as the different flavors do. It is harmony in each bite. The crispy crinkled fries are also a wonderful textural bite. Seasoned with salt and this will remind you of afternoon's after school with friends while listening to KROQ. Make sure to ask them for sauce to dip it in. The Loco Moco is massive and delicious. An island favorite, their version is memorable as they actually season their beef patties, an oversight many other loco mocos are guilty of. Smothered in their brown gravy over three scoops of rice, a combo macaroni/potato salad, and eggs anyway you like this is an island dish that'll fill you up completely. Came here because I heard good things but only got a plate of disappointment. I got the 2 piece boneless cbc in spicy garlic and it was so overpriced and bland. The chicken pieces themselves were paper thin so you're basically eating fried batter. The chicken was fried hours ago and had no crunch. It wasn't even warm. The rice was whatever, a little old and soft so there was no bite to it. The mac salad was alright. It was new to have potato in it for me. Service was alright too. Only 2 tables outside so we ended up eating from the truck bed. Overall, disappointed in the chicken. Not sure why you would offer old pieces that's been fried hours ago when it isn't that difficult to just freshly fry for order. For $20 I'll rather eat at mcdonald. Loco Moco: it was standard but I ordered the eggs over easy and one egg was over hard and another closer to over medium. Combo Plate with CPC (spicy garlic) and kalua pig: the CPC was soo crispy and good. Not spicy at all though. If you like Zippys KFC, you'll like the CPC. The kalua pig was dry and a little saltier. I've had food here plenty of times and never felt this way before! My friend who ate the chicken tenders got food poisoning the following day. A little mumbly, but nice. As for the chicken itself, it seemed to be made fresh. It was supposed to be the garlic fried chicken, but none of us (7 in our party) could even taste the garlic. It was mostly just crispy skin, with with some sweetness to the flavoring. Sadly, I can't say this is even in my top 5 places to get fried chicken. Outside of the crispy skin, it was pretty bland. And as for the price... is it worth it? No. I would definitely say no. Maybe it was off day, but I'm not sure how one can justify paying about $100 for 18 pcs of bland fried chicken. I like how they have potato mac salad (as opposed to plain mac salad) so you can enjoy a bite of potato between your pasta. The salad isn't as mayo heavy as other mac salads as well. The tuna in the poke was cut in beautiful large cubes and so fresh; you can't compare it to any sashimi grade tuna from the grocery store. The crisp and the portions were insane. In this economy the value proposition is crazy. First off,  I want to warn you that not all items are available daily.  If you want the loco moco that everyone raves about, it's only available: Thursday, Saturday,  and Sunday.  This was a huge disappointment for me when I came today, which was Friday.   Their special today was kalbi ribs.  Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but it doesn't hit the same when you're craving to eat something... you come all the way from SF to try it, only to find out it's not available today.  I'd have to come back tomorrow.  I was just disappointed because you know how you can taste it in your mouth already, and then the feeling of eating something else just falls short.     It's our first time here, and I personally give this place a 3.5 stars.  This is for the disappointment of loco moco and the nice lady who helped me FORGOT to put the seaweed salad with my order.   I saw her pack it in the container.  I thought she put it in with the drinks, but we got to the hotel room only to find out it wasn't there.      This place has been around for 15+ years.   They had another location in Newport Beach that closed down during covid.  It's a small place inside,  enough to order and look at the menu.  They have pictures of customers around the wall. They have outdoor seating.       We had: 1.  Kalbi short ribs special:  It was flavorful and tender.   Mac/potato salad is amazing.  This was something that was not really raved about.  It was perfectly flavored and not salty. 2.  Bone out CPC chicken all rice - Chicken was meaty with a crunchy crust.     I guess I'll have to come back next time to try the Loco moco, lau lau, and kalua pork and cabbage.  I didn't even notice until after the fact that they possibly made their own drinks like the li hing mui lemonade. read more
