One of the Best Hawaiian BBQ Spots I've Tried! A friend finally brought me to his favorite Hawaiian BBQ spot (I guess he decided to stop gatekeeping ), and I'm so glad he did! I ordered the 2-Piece Boneless Chicken Plate with the spicy garlic sauce, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The chicken was incredibly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. The seasoning paired perfectly with the spicy garlic sauce, making every bite delicious. The rice was cooked perfectly, and the creamy mac salad had a nice peppery kick that complemented the meal really well. My only minor complaint was that the chicken was just a tad salty, but it wasn't enough to take away from the overall experience. The two women working the register were friendly, welcoming, and professional, greeting everyone with big smiles. The dining area inside was spotless, there was plenty of indoor seating, and parking was easy with lots of available spaces it was very clean! If you're looking for flavorful Hawaiian BBQ with crispy, juicy chicken and excellent customer service, this place is definitely worth a visit. I'd happily come back again. 9/10! read more

My family and I have been going to Da Hawaiian at their old location for quite some time, and we absolutely loved their chicken. Recently, we found out that they moved to a new location, which is actually a lot closer to us. We ordered our usual (2 chili peppa boneless combo plates of spicy garlic and garlic), but sadly, it just wasn't the same. The chicken wasn't as crispy as before, and it hardly had any flavor. Today I tried this restaurant for the first time. The restaurant is clean and the staff very friendly. For lunch I had the Loco Moco with an over easy egg on it. As I was reading my emails and eating I noticed one of the hamburger patties tasted different. Kinda chewy, kinda off tasting. As I was looking at them, I noticed a lot of pink and red meat. Possibly not cooked all the way through. Overall it was ok, but I don't think I'll return. Apparently theres other reviews regarding undercooked food just an FYI. I visited because I heard a lot of good things about this place. I ordered a lunch plate combo with the CPC & Kalbi and a garlic butter shrimp plate. I paid around $50 in total. Kinda pricey but I was stoked to try something that was recommended heavily. However, it took 50 minutes for my food to come out. I watched 6 customers that ordered after me get their food. Ridiculous. When I got the food, they gave me a free spam musubi as an extra for the long wait time. The CPC was really good I think that lived up to the hype. I felt a bit snubbed that it only came with one thigh. I wish it came with two. I was not a big fan of the kalbi. I feel that they put way too much sugar in the marinade. It felt like biting into candy. Garlic butter shrimp was decent. I'm bummed this had to be my first experience. I really wanted to like this place. Clean establishment, simple decor, friendly staff. Portions are good, food definitely tastes home cooked. Sauces are delish. Not overly sweet like a lot of Hawaiian chain restaurants. Finally got to the new location, I phoned order for a 3 pc CPV combo and was told order would be ready in about 20-25 minutes. I made my way there, parking lot is really small and limited, the restaurant itself is big, way bigger than the old location. For saturday around 130pm, place was slam packed. I waited another 10 minutes before they called my ordr. The 3pc CPC still tasted bomb, super crispy and flavorful. The flavors were so good!! I really enjoyed both plates. I would definitely recommend trying a little bit of everything. It's usually 50/50 on whether the pork will be dry at a place or not, but it was easy to eat!! It can be a little bit of a wait when it's busy so just keep in mind! I love this place. If you order 1 thing get the Chili Pepper Chicken. A unique blend if spices and sweetness. Crunch and crispy is freaken fantastic. Let me put on though they got that real hawaiian poke. The spicy garlic tuna is so good. The DHK bowl has both kalua pork and poke it is divine. Then there lemonade is so refreshing. We've been coming here for years, and it had been awhile since our last visit. We were in the area and my husband was craving Lau Lau. Unfortunately, it's not served mid week. However, she did offer to make it with a 50 minute wait. We were headed to the beach, so that was not an option. Instead we ordered the 3pc Chili Peppa Chicken plate which comes with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad. Although the chicken was still delicious, the chicken pieces were a lot smaller and the prices a lot higher. The food was ready fairly fast. They moved locations to across the street from Ocean View High School. Whenever we wanted to order something, they would say, "We are out of that..." out of Portuguese sausage, out of laulau, out of kalua pig. Well, coming from Hawaii, fried chicken wasn't the popular food staple. More like huli huli chicken was if we are talking chicken. They have Kalbi, which is Korean BBQ and teriyaki which is Japanese. Whenever we go, even when they were on Adams, they never have anything we want from the menu. So we end up leaving. On the plus side... They have authentic Hawaiian style poké rather than weird corn, quinoa, and carrot shreds or whatever Mainland-palate poké typically has. They also have indoor seating as opposed to their last location, which is a plus. Thankfully, there are plenty more Hawaiian restaurants around when Da Hawaiian Kitchen is just down to fried chicken...The Loft has fried saimin, Maui BBq has laulau, Ry's Poké Shack is authentic poké (he is from O'ahu) in downtown, L&L on Beach is a Hawaiian chain from Hawai'i and sells portuguese sausage musubi. So this has to do with their stand at the Heritage of Aloha event this weekend (Saturday) in Santa Fe Springs. I had bookmarked this place but after my experience with their foodstand, I'm hesitant to try their brick and mortar store. So the HoA event started at 10 am. People started lining up for their stand around 9:45 am. They didn't open at 10...or 10:15 or 10:30. I finally asked they said 15 more minutes. 10:45 came and went. We finally heard 5 minutes until opening at 10:55 am. 11 am came and went. They finally opened at 11:10 am. When I finally place more order, they didn't have the smoked meats or port musubi. What a let down. So I had to order the Kalua Pig and Spam Musubi. When I asked how much longer it would be for the smoked meat, the "auntie" said at least 30 minutes to an hour...which means in Hawaiian...sometime later today maybe before we close. Food wise, it was okay. Nothing special. Definitely not food worthy of going to their store. And they didn't even provide utensils when I picked up my food. Note to whoever runs this at events. If you're not going to open until 11 am (an hour after the event begins) at least put a sign out. And if you're not going to have certain food items ready an hour after you open, do better and be more considerate to the customers who had been waiting over an hour and now walked away disappointed. read more

EXCELLENT hawaiian food. Their chili peppa chicken (CPC) is to die for. The plate comes with mac salad and rice. The chicken bone in thighs are HUGEEE, a 2 pc plate is definitely a sufficient portion. The fried chicken is some of the best, juicy inside and super flaky and crispy outside. The spicy garlic sauce is perfectly sticky and has great flavor. The mac salad is creamy and includes potato. I'd rate the CPC plate 6/5 - DA BOMB! We also got a spam musubi, which was delicious, good spam to rice ratio and yummy sweet sauce. 5/5 musubi. I also tried their DHK bowl which is a huge bowl including poke, kalua pig (or lau lau), seaweed salad, and lomi salmon. I liked that it was an option to try a little bit of everything. The ahi poke was super fresh, with minimal sauce. The seaweed salad was sweet and not very fishy. The kalua pig was tender. The lomi salmon was probably my least favorite because it was pretty salty. I'd rate the DHK bowl a 3/5. Their new menu seems to be focused on CPC chicken with only a few other options. I came here 30 minutes before they closed, which wasn't the brightest idea but I needed something quick and close. I ordered a plate of the garlic shrimp with a side of the garlic chicken and the shrimp was great. The sauce and rice had wonderful flavor, but the star of the show which was the garlic chicken was not fresh. Unfortunately, the chicken tasted as if it sat out for quite some time. It had a very hard and stale crunch, not an airy crispy crunch that I was hoping for. I didn't think a shopping plaza occupied predominately by Target and its parking lot would feature some amazing Hawaiian food on the outskirts of this space. Located in a tiny sliver of a space in a row of other small businesses is a delicious restaurant serving some incredible Hawaiian food better eaten to go or on your car (yes, on, not in). This is Da Hawaiian Kitchen. Interior Inside is a small hallway leading up to the counter. There is a lot going on with multiple pictures on one wall, hand written menu on the other, and a large whiteboard with more menu items behind the register. It's a lot to take in so you'll have to take a moment to orient yourself. Once you decide what you want you'll order the food, pay, and wait outside for your number to be called. Seating There is no interior seating and outside only has two picnic tables with umbrellas to provide shade. If you're lucky you'll get those seats, although the umbrellas only cover so much. You'll see lots of people taking food home or eating on their cars where there's shade from a tree just a little ways away in the parking lot. Price For Hawaiian food, it's a bit expensive. For example, their popular fried chicken sandwich, the CPC Sandwich, is $8.64, their Loco Moco is $17, and their plate lunches can range from $16-24. Food I found all the food to be filled with flavor and fresh. Even though you see their poke on display when you receive it the fish is tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Served over rice and the sweet and briny flavors become accentuated bursts of tastiness in your mouth. The CBC Sandwich is crispy, rich in flavor with their spicy garlic sauce, and the brioche bun just continues the whole package of tastes. The different textures all work well, just as the different flavors do. It is harmony in each bite. The crispy crinkled fries are also a wonderful textural bite. Seasoned with salt and this will remind you of afternoon's after school with friends while listening to KROQ. Make sure to ask them for sauce to dip it in. The Loco Moco is massive and delicious. An island favorite, their version is memorable as they actually season their beef patties, an oversight many other loco mocos are guilty of. Smothered in their brown gravy over three scoops of rice, a combo macaroni/potato salad, and eggs anyway you like this is an island dish that'll fill you up completely. Laulau was perfect, so much leaves, so moist, taste was on point!!! CPC was so crispy and the taste was lick the fingers!!!! Mac salad was just like home. Of course the rice was just right. We also had Lilikoi lemonade and lihing mui guava lemonade omg!! We took home some fresh made sourdough bread and also the Furikaki Chex mix Service was awesome, staff was so sweet. Only 2 tables outside so we ended up eating from the truck bed. Overall, disappointed in the chicken. Not sure why you would offer old pieces that's been fried hours ago when it isn't that difficult to just freshly fry for order. For $20 I'll rather eat at mcdonald. The workers were all super sweet and nice, letting us try some of their liloki lemonade and punch. We arrived maybe 20 minutes after they opened so there was no line and we received our food pretty quickly. They do not have seating inside, but they have tables with umbrellas outside. When it's hot like it was today, going early and sitting under the umbrellas really help. Loco Moco: it was standard but I ordered the eggs over easy and one egg was over hard and another closer to over medium. Combo Plate with CPC (spicy garlic) and kalua pig: the CPC was soo crispy and good. Not spicy at all though. If you like Zippys KFC, you'll like the CPC. The kalua pig was dry and a little saltier. Their Mac salad is unique, better than the traditional Hawaiian Mac salad imo. & the portions were a decent size. I'd come back and get the CPC again.
