We were excited to try Mama's on 39th. The menu has a solid range of options and spotting Thrifty's ice cream was a fun surprise since it's become so hard to find since Rite Aid closed. We were seated right away and the staff was friendly, which was a great start. Unfortunately, the food didn't hold up. I ordered the ham burrito with tater tots inside and found it pretty flavorless. Thank goodness I got a side of gravy, otherwise I'm not sure I could have gotten through it. My partner's chicken sandwich in a lettuce wrap was equally disappointing. Her highlight was actually the homemade potato chips, which were a nice touch. We had been looking forward to coming back with our dog since it's a pup friendly spot, but given how the food landed, we likely won't make the trip back. The concept is fun and the vibe is welcoming but the kitchen just needs to bring more flavor to the plate. read more

Came on a Thursday morning, and no wait. Plus, kids eat free on Thursdays! Husband got the peanut butter Nutella pancakes which was yummy! Pancake was a big size and comes with 2 stacks. It went well as dessert after my dish. I got the breakfast sourdough melt which was also delicious, crunchy, and very filling! Definitely good enough to share as well! One could say it's an average American breakfast diner, but my daughter got a kids dish (not pictured) that included 1 pancake, scrambled eggs, and a sausage, and she practically finished it! What a fun place. I had seen Mama's on 39 before but never had the opportunity to stop by. I am so glad we did. My friend recommended it and so we decided to go check it out. It was on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was buzzing with activity. There were plenty of people sitting at the bar, and a lot of the tables had multiple people in their parties. We got seated right away, and it only took moments for our server to come by and ask us about drinks. We both ordered a couple ice teas and water, and enjoyed the ambiance. One of the nice things about this place is it definitely has a hometown vibe to it. Like seriously, you feel like you are in someone's home rather than a restaurant. The food came to the table very quickly, and it was very delicious! My friend had the tuna melt and a side salad, it looked huge! You definitely get your bang for the buck here! I opted for something slightly lighter, so I ordered the half Caesar salad with chicken. Chicken. Let me tell you something, I'm glad I ordered the small cuz I can't imagine how huge this salad would be as a large! The chicken breast on top nearly covered the entire bowl of salad! And it was absolutely delicious. The service was top notch, the ambiance was great, and the food was outstanding! They even had some party going on in the back, with just added to the excitement of the place. And on the way out, I noticed they had a thrifty ice cream shop right in the restaurant! This is such a great spot. We had no idea it was here, and thanks to Yelp, we found it and are so glad we did. It's got a super cozy breakfast vibe. There is a bar, full of people chatting, and lots of seating and booths. They had some TV's around, if that's what you're into, but it doesn't feel at all like a sports bar. It's just cozy. The whole menu is available all day. And it is a BIG menu. Everyone will find something they like. We got the basics: pancakes, eggs and bacon and then a BLT with an egg added. The sandwich has great quality bread. It wasn't cheap flimsy bread. The aioli on it was flavorful and clearly not from a jar. I opted for the house made chips. They were light and crispy and fantastic. The portions of everything are pretty big! A great value. I love they have a caddy with all the things including ketchup, hot sauce, syrup and S&P. I hate having to ask for each of those. Especially at a breakfast spot. They are known for their Bloody Mary. I opted for the bubbles in a michelada. The flavor was great. My husband also got the chicken and waffles but he got the chicken breasts. I got the pesto pasta and they were running a special where the pasta was half off and half the portion which was perfect for me. Our drinks were also delicious - we got nonalcoholic drinks. Service here was great and the staff were very attentive and friendly which was appreciated. Food portions are massive, so you will likely be needing to factor in a nap once you're done stuffing your face here. My friend got the loaded biscuit breakfast skillet which was super good (I stole a couple bites when he wasn't looking). I ordered their pot pie, which was decent but slightly underwhelming. It's more of a bechamel soup with biscuits on top than a pot pie with your typical crust. I guess I'll give them creativity points for utilizing their biscuits in this fashion, but it didn't stick the landing. They have an extensive menu and, from the pictures on Yelp, it looks like there's a lot more food options that'll hit the spot so I'm definitely up to check this place out again to try their breakfast/brunch items as I'm sure they'll deliver like that loaded biscuit skillet did. read more

Met my girlfriend halfway and decided to give this spot a try since it had so many solid reviews--and yep, they lived up to the hype. It came with home potatoes that were perfectly seasoned and freshly crispy--no soggy vibes here. It also came with a biscuit (which I skipped since I'm not a biscuit fan), but it's there if you're looking for extra carbs. Wait time was exactly 15 minutes from when we checked in and provided our birthday celebrant's name to the hostess. Our waiter Eric C. was great. Thank you Eric! First time at Mama's On 39 so he went over the menu with us and informed us of Mama's specialties. Our order consists of appetizers and main dishes. They were Carne Asada Fries and Korean BBQ Pork Tots for appetizers. Both appetizers had good portion sizing for our party of 5. We still had leftovers. Carne Asada Fries were crispy, cheesy with guacamole and salsa. The Korean BBQ Pork Tots were crispy yet mushy inside. It was flavorful and the pork was tender and not overcooked. For the main dishes we ordered from Mama's Specialties. Tutt's Fried Chicken, Monte Cristo, Penne Pesto, Old Fashioned Benedict and Weezie's Wonder Waffle along with Cafe Mocha and Americano. Tutt's Fried Chicken was delicious. 2 huge deep fried chicken breast. Crispy on the outside but tender and not overcooked on the inside. The roasted potatoes were a good pair to Tutt's Fried Chicken. This meal also came with vegetables such as onions, green, red and yellow bell peppers. The roasted potatoes were not too salty which we enjoyed. Took my best friend here for her birthday and we enjoyed our visit! The portion size is MASSIVE! Definitely worth the price you're paying. The menu is extensive and a bit overwhelming, but if you're not indecisive, it's a great place with many options! My friend enjoyed her ginormous burrito, and same with me and my country fried steak and eggs. I also ordered a regular cappuccino. We were accidentally given a coffee instead of the cappuccino at first (didn't correct because I don't like confrontation! ), but our waitress was very kind and apologized for the mix up and let us keep both. Ambiance is very homey, I recommend joining the waitlist in advance so your table is ready when you arrive. My only complaint would be that the steak was a bit too fatty and tough for my preference. The breading and gravy were phenomenal though! I really enjoyed the side of pancakes; they were so fluffy and light! I wish I had caught our servers name. (Front eight top table at 7:30 pm, April 25th) He was very nice and had such a great attitude. Hubby and I had slider appetizers and split a half salad. Really tasty. Son had a pesto pizza. He's a food and loved it. Almost son-in-love had a chicken parm sandwich...loved it. Bride-to-be had wings and salad. All good. Mommas is a great location if you're looking for a good meal at a reasonable price. The hostess service was a little subpar, however. They have a waiting list that you join, but it felt pointless at times because other diners who walked in after us were seated first. In my opinion, the hostesses need to do a better job of properly keeping track of the waiting list. This is definitely something that should be worked on, as it takes away from what would otherwise be a great dining experience. That being said, I do recommend this restaurant for the food and overall atmosphere. The servers are what make up for the hostesses' mishaps by providing much better service and attention to detail. It can get a bit loud due to all the TVs inside, but after a while you hardly notice it. Overall, I recommend this location -- just be mindful of the hostess experience when checking in. If you get here early enough, you can walk in. Otherwise, there can be a long wait to be seated, but you can always join the yelp waitlist ahead of time. As soon as we were seated, we could place our order. We each needed a bit more time, but our server was extremely attentive and kind. They do not lack service here. Everyone was on it all of the time! My friends started out with bottomless mimosas and I had the designated driver mocktail. Absolutely loved the designated driver mocktail. It's just juices and pineapple syrup so it was expensive for what it really is, but it was good. Bottomless is worth it if you are going to have 2 or more mimosas. We also started out splitting the bacon cinnamon Hawaiian rolls. The toasted Hawaiian rolls with cinnamon and frosting were absolutely delicious. I could see the bacon, but could not taste it in any bite besides the difference in texture. Bacon wasn't even needed for this treat really. I had the old fashioned Benedict and my husband had Melissa's steak benny. I enjoyed my benedict as the eggs were poached perfectly and there was plenty of ham. The biscuit used for my meal was their mamas bacon biscuits, but again couldn't taste any of the bacon. Just a regular, kinda dry, biscuit. Didn't really matter because their hollandaise was delicious and hid the dryness of the biscuit. The potatoes were okay, not too cooked or crispy as I usually like. My husband really enjoyed his steak benny though! The mushrooms and caramelized onions really added a lot of flavor.
