This review is mostly for their private catering service services, which is held on the top floor of the restaurant. I was invited to attend a private service here (for a repast). It feels a little strange for me to write this review, given I was there for a bigger purpose. However, it's still a restaurant that serves food and I have opinions, so I guess this review is still appropriate. I would say this place comfortably seats 50 people. The food was good and they also have options for coffee/tea and an open bar. My favorite items were the garden salad and baked salmon dish. The staff were also very friendly and efficient throughout the event. Given that this location is only a three minute walk from the church that I was attending service for, I think it's a great option for anyone that wants to host post church related events. The stairs are pretty steep though so I don't think it's ADA accessible. However, maybe there was an elevator that I may have missed . I'm not too sure. read more

Based on the previous reviews, we thought this place would be at least decent family style Italian. After we learned the wait at Il Leone would be 45 min., we walked a block to Da Nonna. It was 8:20p and the place was empty, clue #1. When you enter, it looks like a slice shop, but there is a dining rooms with tables and booths in the back. We ordered a Caesar salad, Pasta w/Bolognese, Spinach Lasagne, and a Chicken wrap. Everything tasted like it was poured out of a jar - the Caesar dressing dressed thick like glue, the red sauce over the bolognese and lasagne. Wow! There are so many decent places to eat in Park Slope, this place is a shame. There was some kind of beeping alarm in the dining room that no one bothered to turn off the entire time we were there. Great local takeout and huge portions. i was a little shell shocked originally by the prices considering the casual atmosphere but then the portions came out and I changed my mind. it's actually a great deal for the price because the portions are so huge, more family style! You can see in the photos I sent to my fiancé I even put my fans as reference I couldn't believe the portions. Been going here for more than 10 years. The pizza is usually OK. But Please do not wear scent if you are serving food. I don't want to smell your cologne/perfume on my bag, paper plate, and pizza while I'm trying to eat. I don't like to have a sneezing fit because I'm allergic to it. Came here on a Friday to celebrate my dads 70th birthday. The staff here is always friendly and welcoming. I've been coming here for years and constantly order catering from them. The food is always fresh and delicious. There has not been one dish where I can say I didn't like it. Everything is so delicious. As soon as we were seated, our server brought out their delicious focaccia bread. For starters, we ordered fried calamari, mozzarella sticks, and fried shrimp. The calamari was fried perfectly, nice and crispy. The kids enjoyed their mozzarella sticks. The fried shrimp were delicious. I would have like to see a tartar sauce option for the shrimp, but other than that, a squeeze of lemon is just right on the shrimp. For our main entrees we ordered chicken rollatini with a side of penne a la vodka, Frutti di Mare in red sauce, Pesto with grilled chicken, Penne a la vodka with grilled chicken, chicken parmigiana, side of grilled chicken Caesar salad and grilled octopus from the specialty menu. Everything was delicious. The octopus was cooked to perfection. It was nice and tender bursting with flavors. For dessert, we ordered ice cream and the chocolate mousse cake. The cake is delicious. On a quiet hilly avenue of Park Slope Brooklyn resides this beautiful quaint little Italian eatery, dishing out some of the most wholesome, delicious cooking in the neighborhood. I had been eyeing this place for a while, so when my date a number of weeks ago asked - where would you like to go? I couldn't think of a better opportunity to sample what's been on my radar. I will say this review is for their pesto pasta - it is creamy, and it is dreamy. I love the depth of the sauce, I love the little bites of whole pine-nuts. I love how the sauce glues on to the pasta and every crevice. I love the sauce to pasta ratio because as a pesto enthusiast nothing is more disappointing than not enough green goodness coating your pasta. This is hands down one of my favorite pesto pasta dishes, and I frequently order it on delivery too! Adding broccoli rabe or grilled chicken only elevates this amazing dish. We ordered a Margherita and Meat Lovers pizza. Definitely different than what I've had in California. The sauce is something else (in a great tasty way!) My friend also wanted to order the meat lovers pizza. Now, I'm not usually a fan of pizza with tons of meat toppings but I wanted to try it out of curiosity and I'm so glad I did because it was probably the best meat lovers pizza I have ever had. Ill start by saying that I cant speak on the drinks or ambiance of this place because I ordered takeout and did not dine in. Typically when you dine in the hospitality and service is a big factor in your overall experience. That being said, takeout or not the food was very very unpleasant. I ordered the vodka rigatoni with chicken cutlet, sautéed broccoli, and garlic knots. Nothing and I mean nothing, had flavor. Ok the garlic knots were just ok but honestly I did not taste any garlic, if anything it was a cool piece of warm bread. But the biggest disappoint was the pasta, I mean completely unseasoned no real flavor, not even a tomato red sauce flavor just nothing. The chicken cutlet was probably even worst, not only was it hard but it didn't have any taste, not even salt just super disappointing . The side of broccoli may have been the biggest waste of money, $12 and it was stale with a slightly sour taste, which is probably the only flavor I got from it anyway, where was the garlic??? The smell of the sauce that wafts out of this place constantly makes it really hard not to go here more often. Now let's be clear, this isn't your neighborhood slice place. Those are gonna be Manhattan prices and honestly they're not that great. But there's plenty of places to get great, classic slices. Here you go for the pies. It's not the cheapest but it's better priced than a lot of places out there. And they PILE on the pepperoni. You're gonna get that classic, greasy slice but just 8 of them. Lately we threw on some artichoke as well. Really, really solid and less oily. Their garlic knots are up and down. I've had them when they're incredible and I've had them when they're pretty below par. But the pies never, ever disappoint. This should be a four star review. Da Nonna Rosa has been my go-to pizza delivery place in the ~ 10 years I've lived in South Slope and Windsor Terrace and it probably will remain so. The pizzas are terrific - thin and delicious crust, excellent and well distributed toppings, and generally quick delivery times (although they conveniently tend to "not have my apartment number," and make me come downstairs even when I order via Seamless, which is annoying when I'm tipping 20% plus. But whatever.) They're a little pricier than most in the neighborhood, but the pizza has always been worth it to me. I've branched out beyond pizza occasionally and have enjoyed their heroes (eggplant parm is second only to Russo's in the hood) and pastas are also yummy and generously sized. However, last time I ordered a side of broccoli with garlic and oil to go with my pizza Arrabiata (which was excellent, per usual) and while I enjoyed the well cooked and delicious broccoli, once I'd finished eating I noticed a shard of GLASS at the bottom of the empty container. Absolutely unacceptable. I'm taking a break for now but will inevitably be back because they are the best for this style of pizza in the neighborhood, but I'll be 100% sticking to pizza only from now on. read more

We sat in a booth toward the back of the dining room Water and Bread Basket along with menus arrived at table a few seconds after we ere seated. Coffee was fresh and piping hot. Dirty Shirley was tasty and warmed you up a bit. The vodka drink was nice as well. Pasta and Bean soup came in a nice size bowl and came piping hot and was filling. Da Nonna Rosa Lasagna was meaty and perfectly made. Tasty n Flavorful 2 orders of Chicken Francese with penne pasta...as usual nice tender chicken and the sauce was well balanced with the pasta. I really love their pizza, I do. I just can't order here anymore. They charge $4 and $5 extra for toppings on HALF the pizza. It's like $6 for full toppings so if you want to split, forget about it. A little criminal and can easily turn a $30 pizza (already expensive) into a $50 pizza for no damn good reason. I hope they reconsider this in the future and let people customize halves of pizza and not go broke! read more

Their Grandma pie (the Nonna) is the best I've had. Ordered it last night. Crispy flavorful crust, bursting with garlic and love. Yeah, it's pricy, but it's also, squisito, gustoso and appetitoso! My Italian Grandmother came to Ellis Island from Bari, Italy many years ago. I never saw her eat pizza. She was actually grumpy as hell, but her lack of pizza may have been the reason. The appetizers like the fried calamari and rice balls fine - deep fried! But the pasta is as boiled beyond Al dente and sort of mushy. Came here for a friend's birthday. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is very casual, typical restaurant vibes nothing too fancy. I ordered the Salmon Calabrese, and I have to say it was a very delicious meal. The zest mixed with a savory salmon was really refreshing. I have to say I think Da Nonna Rosa makes the best standard New York slice in our area. Sauce is great, cheese is just the right amount so it doesn't slide off when you pick it up, crust is thin and crispy while remaining tender. We had a complicated order recently and needed early arrival so we ordered the evening before. Sure enough, upon arrival of one of our guests, we discovered they would not eat any of what we'd pre-ordered so we called a few minutes before they opened to see if we could add an additional item. They couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating, and the delivery came both quickly and piping hot. We will definitely order from Da Nonna Rosa again in the future. read more

It was some time in May when I came across this lovely pizzeria and bought a Margherita slice and fell in love. Since then I've been going back for my pizza fix....lol. Can't speak to the dine-in experience but delivery was disappointing. The food was relatively bland; mostly not bad, but not spectacular. However one item specifically - the butternut squash salad - had an extremely off putting sour odor and taste. We were concerned about potentially a spoiled squash and had to just discard it. I always love coming to this family-run, family-owned business in the heart of the Park Slope area. While my friends and family usually meet up here in the Fall and Spring to enjoy the hearty soups and entrees, this visit we enjoyed the amazing selections of fresh summer salads and shared their stellar meatball and arancini apps with our salads, which was the absolutely perfect combo along with a chilled glass of wine. Great for date night, family luncheons or gathering with friends.
