Was in the neighborhood and felt like a quick bite. I remembered that a friend had recommended San Remo and stopped in. The back dining room was closed, so we sat in the front where there are a few small tables. We ordered a large pie, well done, half mushrooms and half clams. I asked if they use canned mushrooms (I wouldn't have ordered it if they did), but they use fresh mushrooms which they sauté and prep before topping the pizza. I was pleasantly surprised to see such a beautiful pie delivered to our table. If it tastes as good as it looks, we're in business. Well, I wasn't disappointed. It actually was pretty fantastic. Cool guys working at the counter. Great little spot for a good slice. I'll be back to dine in the restaurant area and check out some of the other offerings. One of my friends recommended to stop here for a quick bite before we were to attend an art fair on Cortelyou road. She used to live here and this was the pizza place she frequented. We were a group of five and wanted mostly Caesar salads and an order of Calamari. The place was packed and we wanted to ensure in the back; pre COVID there was waiter service but now it was closed off. The staff were nice enough to open it up for us. We ordered at the counter: one large Caesar, one Caesar with chicken, one with salmon and an order of calamari. The orders took a bit but were busy reminiscing about the neighborhood and this restaurant. We enjoyed the Caesar salads but found the Calamari a bit tough. My friend still believes the pizza is outstanding; I did see many pies being made and prepared for delivery and pick up. They did look very good. Overall, I would recommend if you want traditional old school restaurant but can't recommend ordering the calamari. Mangia! I love San Remo. It's another favorite of mine in the neighborhood and it's been a cornerstone of authentic New York pie for as long as I can remember. They have a wonderful variety of pies. My favorites are the grandma slice (middle piece) and the tomato/basil (it's very garlicky). They also offer other American-Italian fare: rice balls (smothered in red gravy), zeppoles, mozzarella sticks. It's wonderful for a casual slice, or if you'd like to sit for a while, San Remo has a pleasant dine-in section (and if you don't mind the colorful Brooklyn characters). There's always a lot of love here. That said, the best way to judge a NYC pizzeria is by their plain red slice. San Remo's plain cheese is just above average. Pleasantly saucy. Thin crust (ever so slightly doughy). Cheese is decent (not particularly special but a decent balance of salt and mild, milky sweetness). But if you want to jazz it up, they have lots of other really wonderful options for all kinds of pizza lovers. You'll pay above average prices for above average slices. It def ain't Two Bros, but it won't break the bank (hopefully). As it is a neighborhood favorite, try to avoid the post-school rush of parents and kids looking for some above average comfort food. And be sure to double-check your order, as some details may get lost in the rush hour sauce. Next time you're thinking about ordering from Dominos, maybe check out San Remo instead. read more

I don't know who's reading this but hopefully this helps you to make a decision on whether to go to San Remo or not. I personally would not order from this pizzeria o go here again. I used to go here for slices when my daughter was younger but have never had their pasta. The pasta I just ordered is stale. I also ordered garlic Knox and they are also stale, dry flavorless and hard. I've had garlic know from most local pizzeria and never have I had a hard knot. Well you may be asking why give them 2 stars, I ask myself the same but I do not have an answer. If it wasn't 88 degrees I would have gone to my new Italian gem but it is too hot out for my liking. I gave this place one star because there is no way to give zero star. The reason for zero star is the two young boys that continue to harass, ridicule me, and spit out racial slurs at me. I've spoken with the older guy, Tony, and he said they are young and stupid but they will stop but they have not. I asked Tony for the manager's contact info which he claimed that he didn't have. I've been searching online for the customer service or manager or something but nothing came up. I went in to pick up some pizza last night, and they continued to harass and ridicule me. I've been patronizing this place for the past 30 years. Around last summer, they seem to have employed these two short young boys, one speaks English well, and the other very little. In October 2020, I spoke with Tony and the one of the boys who speaks English well that in this country, people don't say those racially charged, derogatory remarks, and ridicule people based on their race because it is considered a racial discrimination, disrespectful, and harassment. These boys need to learn that they should not call an African-American person a "negro", and an Asian person a "chink". By continuing to employ these boys and/or allowing the racial discrimination, racially charged ridicule, and harassment to continue, I find San Remo irresponsible not educating their employees. I will talk with Tony one more time, and if the boys continue to harass me, I will file complaints with appropriate authorities. Times are tough for everyone. We must behave better, help each other, and not hurt other people like these boys do. read more

Pizza is not just PIZZA, especially if your from Brooklyn. This is one of the best Pizza spots this side of Brooklyn BECAUSE they actually season their sauce. Many other spots in the neighborhood don't season the sauce making for a very bland pizza slice. They slices aren't overly oily either. The pasta was just bad. Over-cooked pasta and bland flavors. How can sausage have no flavor? Just a mushy bland mess. My husband and I moved to the area less than a year ago from an old Italian neighborhood and boy do we miss the Italian food. So far we haven't found a single place to fill the Italian void for us. Lo Duca is the only good slice we've had but unfortunately they don't deliver and it's not nice enough atmosphere to make you want to eat there. I have been a patron at San Remo for the past decade and change and am so horrified at what I just witnessed - I watched an entitled staff member double park his car, preventing someone from getting out of a parking space, and when she complained that she was blocked in, he laughed at her and immediately got his friends hanging out at the restaurant taunt and scream insults/profanities at her, completely unprovoked. The store owner did nothing to stop the harassment - this is not acceptable of any establishment, and I am ashamed to see this happen in my neighborhood. I have been letting it slide that quality of the pizza has really gone down hill with the pandemic since I've known many of the folks behind the counter for years (the crust has gotten soggy, the toppings weren't as fresh, and the delivery regularly arrives cold), but this is completely unacceptable to treat customers in such a dehumanizing manner. Ordered a large brick oven pizza with sausage, a spinach roll a cheese steak and a tiramisu. The total was $55.53 with tax and delivery fee. The order arrived on time although when the delivery guy took the box out of the warmer bag, I noticed that it was kinda cool. No biggy right, that's what a toaster oven is for. The problem came when I opened the box, there was no sausage and the pie didn't look like what I ordered. They offer a Grandma Pizza, Sicilian Pizza along with the Brick Oven and regular round pies (What the "F" ???). None of these pies have any sort of description by the way. Maybe it's me but what got looked like a Sicilian Pizza and not the picture of the Brick Oven pie I wanted. Anyway, a call to Grub Hub got me a refund for the missing sausage ($4.50) and the Tiramisu ($5.00) As far as the taste, It's a damn good pie, I just don't like that style pizza. read more
