Second and last time here. Service was very poor. Had to keep bugging the waitress for my friend's entree and it was served after we had already finished ours. No apology, no explanation. Da Shin was recommended to us by friends of ours. We were sold on the fried noodles that come out when you first sit down. We went on Christmas Eve and the place was packed. We walked in without a reservation and instead of getting berated by the hostess, she was surprisingly friendly and told us we would be seated as soon as possible. After a very short wait (less than 10 minutes) we were seated. Out came the fried noodles, water, and tea! The waitress, who was really busy, came around to apologize for the wait and "bribed" us with more noodles, which we quickly accepted. The wait to place our order was really very short - but it was nice of the staff to be so attentive to their customers! The food was delicious and tasted very fresh - unlike many Chinese restaurants whose food tastes like it was cooked that morning and just heated up before coming out. We ordered a few items off of the Farm to Table menu that uses items that come from Hillside Farm, just down the street in Media. We loved that they would have such a creative and unique offering - this is clearly not your run of the mill Chinese place. The good: excellent, friendly, attentive staff; freshly cooked delicious food; good prices; nice, clean interior. Don't let the fact that its in a strip mall dissuade you from trying it out! Outstanding for vegetarians! We did take out; The vege sweet & sour chicken and the vegetable lo mein were very well done. Edamame was decent too. It can be tough to find vegetarian Chinese, so this was a welcome surprise. Very friendly staff as well. read more

I love Chinese food and have eaten it since I was a kid. My family also loves Chinese food. Once my mom wanted Chinese food but I said, "I ate Chinese food yesterday." Mom replied, "So what, the people in China eat Chinese food everyday." Basically, my family has eaten a lot of Chinese food and Da Shin is one of our most favorite places for this cuisine. Everything dish is excellent but I find the sauce on the Egg Foo Young to be really awesomely delicious. The atmosphere is casual with very pleasant decor. The restaurant is nice and clean. Love this place. It's a hidden gem. I get their chrispy calamari every time and it's wonderful. I've tried quite a few other entrees there and haven't been disappointed. One of my kids moved near here, so we went Yelping for good Chinese food. Great reviews, so we gave it a try. We have since been back another half dozen times or more -- I thought I had already written a review. Da Shin is exactly what it appears to be: an outstanding neighborhood Chinese restaurant. It's not a sophisticated, ultra-expensive, ultra-fancy place. Key points: --Huge menu. Some Thai and Japanese dishes, too. --A large, gluten-free menu (needed for one of my kids). Need something glutinous made GF? No problem -- ask. If it can be done, it will be. Other special requests? No problem. --Friendly and efficient service. In particular, the owners (husband and wife, I think?) are unfailingly pleasant and helpful. --Reasonable prices for the portion size. --Spotlessly clean -- not always a high priority in Asian restaurants. Pleasant decor, comfortable. So, let's say 4 stars for the food and prices, and an extra star for the service and atmosphere. I'm very pleased. read more

We found the service very friendly. My wife and I took my grandmother here for dinner and at 96-years old, she is a bit slow. The waiter knelt down to ask about the very specific order she wanted. We also have a 15-month old who the staff all played with. Good food, service and location make this a must-go when we take our grandmother out to dinner. read more

I would have given Da Shin 3 stars as the food is really OK, but it used to be so much better. Five to ten years ago we would order Da Shin on a weekly basis. Now, we try once every six months and is always leaves us wanting. Rather generic Chinese food. The last time we ordered take away the portions were smaller, so it is now overpriced and mediocre. This restaurant has a good reputation with the locals, and I've eaten in here before and the food was pretty good but... Went this past Sunday, and they looked pretty disinterested. The food was horrible! Shrimp Pad Thai had canned baby shrimp in it and it was rancid! Noodle dish tasted like it came out of a package, full of salt! Asian chicken salad was thrown together with wilted lettuce and tough chicken. The key lime pie tasted as though it "turned" and went bad. The place was empty and the service was non-existent. This was one of the worst experiences i've had dining out. Totally unacceptable from start to finish. Bad night? maybe, but food/service this bad doesn't get a second chance from me. read more

We just finished our last dinner from Da Shin. The hot & sour soup was neither; I had to add apple cider vinegar & pepper to make it so. The BBQ 'babyback' spare ribs were burnt and HUGE, and tough. Babyback ribs are small & tender, but pork ribs, if cooked properly are tender. These all had a crunchy burnt outside...B liked the sesame chicken, but has had better, even at Da Shin. It's a pity, because our very first meal there was terrific, but no subsequent time has lived up to our introduction. read more

I ordered the house special soup as an entree. It was tasteless and the broth was, essentially, water. I sent it back. No one apologized or asked me if I wanted something else. So, I left hungry. Tried this place for the first time tonight. This will definitely be our go-to Chinese restaurant. Service was fast and very friendly! The menu had a decent variety although not as extensive as some Chinese places can be. Da Shin probably offers about 10 types of poultry, 10 beef, 10 seafood, vegetarian, etc in addition to their house specialties. Inside is large dining room, which is clean and well lit. My kiddos shared orange chicken, my husband had Seafood Combination, and I had seaweed salad followed by Shrimp and orange salad. Very delicious food:). We had the sechwan (sorry about spelling) eggplant is perfect!!! The eggplant melts in your mouth and they don't fry it which is lovely!! The general tso chicken was very tender not dry at all. The pineapple fried rice was very tasty. We enjoyed everything very much!! It all tasted homemade which we appreciate. The prices are good. We ordered take out but the restaurant is very nicely decorated and SPOTLESS which to me shows a great attention to detail!! There were even children's books set up in the waiting area to read. The staff were all very kind and thoughtful. I was early to pick up and they were very sweet and brought my food out to the car (without me mentioning anything) Bc it was late and my kids wanted to wait in the car. My only con was that the food wasn't spicy at all. We ordered 2 spicy dishes as mild and they definitely could have had more spice. read more

We love this place. From the accommodating staff to the delicious food DaShin is wonderful. I especially appreciate the amount of vegetarian options available. Tonight I had the Vegetarian General Tso's Chicken which was AWESOME! Not only was it delicious, it was presented beautifully. First time here in awhile, and there seems to have been a change in ownership or management. Wife had rib-tips which were very good. She had Orange beef, which she apparently enjoyed. I had the hot and sour soup, which was very good. The Spring roll was something I wouldn't order again. I ordered the Red Curry chicken extra spicy. I like very spicy food, this wasn't spicy at all. Other than not being spicy, the dish was excellent. I could have given them 5 stars because the FOOD IS VERY GOOD, but the SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. We found this Chinese restaurant in our neighborhood using Yelp, and, as usual, we were not led astray. The service is friendly and excellent. The food was fresh and tasty. The scallop dish my DH got was just-right spicy, not bland, and the scallops were tender and sweet. My orange shrimp salad was a wonderful blend of flavors. My son's beef fried rice was made, as he requested, "without vegetables", and was delicious without being too greasy. The waitress made us laugh when she brought it and exclaimed "with extra vegetables!". Parking is plentiful. This will be our new go-to neighborhood Chinese restaurant. read more
