Finally got to try Da Shrimp Hale and I have to say it was pretty good but a little pricey. I dined alone but if two people shared, the price may be a little better. I got the peel and eat 1 pound of shrimp with garlic butter with medium spice. The garlic butter was good but I couldn't really taste any spice. I got the Cajun fries as a side and while a little salty, it did have good spice. They have other items besides shrimp and next time I do get the chance to visit, I would like to try the crab. read more

my man and i decided to try this spot out for a dinner date. we decided on the combo and chose 3 seafoods (2 times shrimp, and a "crab cluster" as they called it). we only got two halves of a potato, 5 sausages, 2 corns. the fries were seasoned well, but it didn't feel like enough for two people. i believe we paid about $45 for the combo, but it was on the smaller side. they ran out of the garlic butter sauce the night we had went, which was okay with us. items run out all the time. however, we aren't big fans of spices, so we had to settle with the only sauce they had that night which was the "all of da kine" sauce. we got mild and it was pretty spicy to us. on top of that, my boyfriend's prime rib plate did not come out at all even though that was the first thing we ordered before the combo. it was weird because our server asked us how he wanted it cooked, but when the food came out, all we got was the combo. we looked at the receipt and his plate wasn't on there at all. we just shrugged our shoulders and promised each other to cook seafood at home. maybe we came on an off night, maybe we just got a bad batch. sigh. read more

My husband likes to go there for steak. I always enjoyed their crab, but tonight I was really disappointed. This evening we went for dinner around 7 and walked in to sit down. Although there was an open clean table they said we needed to sign in as they had a wait list. (We were #3) As I looked around there were at least 4 tables that were not yet cleaned. And one open seating for 4. We waited over 30 minutes to be seated but they were obviously short handed as the tables sat there dirty. Needed something quick to eat. Walked through and checked out the open mall. There were numerous places to eat and decided on this place. I mean if in Hawaii you have to try some sort of fish. Ok so once again i came to a place rate 4 stars or more and was very disappointed. We came on a Sunday around 3 with a group of 7, they had us wait outside for 20 mins or so for our seats. There is no bathroom inside the restaurant only in the courtyard. We order the crawfish, clams, shrimp all in the all da kine flavor as well as chicken tenders for my little ones. The crawfish has very bland flavor. Idk if its because I'm from CA and I've just had so much better (HnJ). Also the crawfish itself seemed small without much meat. The shrimp was sweeter but also still very bland. And pretty much the same with the clams. The chicken tenders looked like they came from a frozen bag and tasted like it too. The service was ok. I am glad we went at the right time (about 6pm) it started to get really busy on a Saturday dinner time. They only had about 3-4 waitresses & couple cooks but the Menu is super simple. We went here before our drive to Haleakala. Faster service and quick in response. You get what you see on the pics or online. The corn was tasty so is the shrimp or Calamari. I wish I ordered the combo instead to try more. The best thing about this place is the proximity. It saved us lot of time after groceries in Wholefoods. Came here because I was missing Boiling Crab. It is obvious that the taste will never be comparable to boiling crab but the price is what makes it worth it. I have eaten here serveral times. I have tried almost everything on there menu and can without a doubt say that your money is well spent here. I have tried the combos and the individual dishes. It just depends on whether you want to wear your food or be able to eat with a fork. The combos are great for 2 or maybe even 3 people to share you can get them with different spice levels and even chose what you want. Then they have there fried dishes with catfish, calamari,shrimp, and I believe chicken. Those are good as an add on or if your not really hungry. The gumbo is pretty good some might find it a little salty. For being on Maui I will take it. The prime rib and opakapaka dinners are very well done for a place that seems to do more fast food style food. The service is usually prompt and friendly even on busy nights. It's a nice place to stop if you are headed to the movies or a show somewhere close. Popped in to grab some lunch after a doctor's appointment and was really pleasantly surprised by how good it was. My selections: fresh clams, cajun, K shoots (high spice level), and red potatoes. Throw it all into a bag, steam it, and enjoy- hard to go wrong with that. Being our 1st time there we had no idea what to expect or what to order. He decided on the Prime Rib special that they serve every Friday night & I decided on shrimp and potatoes with garlic butter - no spice (I don't like spicy). The staff was nice enough to furnish me with butcher paper to cover the desk and they foolishly gave me multiple sets of cutlery. I may have shamefully pretended I alone was not going to eat a meal intended for a family. To be clear, I did not offer to share with any of my employees, nor would I have if they had asked. This was that good. Sure, I may have felt like dying after consuming that much food, and maybe I swore I would never attempt such a feat again. After spending 8 days on Maui, this place is the worst place we've eaten. The server had a stink face the whole time taking our order which started off our dinner with bad vibes. After ordering we immediately regretted coming here but we thought maybe the food would be worth it. Boy were we wrong. They advertise a "combo" special but it really is a way to take your money. $40 for 1.5lbs of seafood. Yes, you read it right, only 1.5 lbs! In CA, you get double that! The entire order contained 13 shrimp (supposed to be 1 lb but I doubt it), 8 mussels (supposedly 1/2lbs), 6 THINLY sliced pieces of sausages, 1 small potato sliced in two, and 2 pices of corn. THAT'S IT. You can even see the table through the bottom of the bag which gives you an idea of how little they give you. We tried to adjust our order to make it a full 3lbs of seafood instead of the combo special to make it more worth the money, but they refused to help us, even though we were willing to spend more. It's a shame that our last meal on Maui is this place because it would have been nice to leave on a happy note and with full bellies. read more
