Unfortunately, the sides were underwhelming, just mac and cheese and some shredded cabbage, which didn't add much to the dish. The service was... interesting. After ordering from the kiosk, I went to pick up my food and asked for a fork. The staff told me they didn't have any. That was a bit surprising....was I supposed to eat it with my hands? TLDR: Good food, but service could have been better. Da Nani Pirates is located in Kahului, super close to the airport & other stores as a part of the food truck lot with other eats! We had the calamari, the ahi tacos, & the pulled pork sliders. The Calamari was tender & the fry was perfect, but it was a bit difficult to chew which made it #3 of our 3 plates. We also had the pulled pork sliders with Guava buns & that was #2! It was tasty, but my favorite part of the dish was the curly fries & the house sauce (tasted really really good inside the pork sliders themselves). Our FAVORITE dish was the Ahi Fish Tacos! The Macnut & pepper crust on the Ahi was amazing & the portions of the veggies & fish was perfect for us. ALSO for the price you pay for the tacos, you're definitely getting a good amount of Ahi. We also got this with Ono on the side; the tacos were definitely our #1!! In terms of the seating area, if you want to dine at the food truck lot, there are plenty of tables available, but do keep in mind that there are pretty massive flies that may land & take interest in your food ;) Though the food was delicious, our overall experience with Da Nani Pirates was more on the negative side because of the customer service. When asked about the menu for clarification, our cashier/server seemed extremely aggravated and annoyed, making his responses pretty unhelpful in answering some of the questions we had. Additionally, my husband did want some extra protein on our tacos, so we clicked the "extra ono" option on the screen. When he got our receipt, he called out my husband's name and passive aggressively said, "dude you know that Ono isn't Ahi" and proceeded to speak to him in a condescending tone. I would've given Da Nani Pirates a 4/5 just based on food, however I do believe that customer service is paramount and I always reserve that one star just for customer service. Enjoyed some rather tasty ahi tacos last night from Da Noni Pirates (DNP) food truck. The ahi was fresh. lightly seared and sliced. It was served as a set of three on a soft taco with veggies and sauces. They are located in the food truck parks near the Costco. DNP is part of Maui's vibrant food truck scene. This food truck is located at the food truck hub near Costco. Probably my favorite mac salad of the trip, and I tried a lot of mac salad. I ordered the pork sliders, and opted for mac and rice instead of fries. It was all really good! The guava bun was excellent and soft, while offering a sweet aspect to the savory dish. They have a huge menu, and the fries are curly. They were really good! The ahi slider also received rave reviews from our group, as did the tacos! There's seating throughout the compound here, just picnic tables. First come first serve. Also, ordering is through a kiosk. Something I'd never seen before, but made life so easy! We were looking for something to eat and saw all the food trucks and decided to try it out. It was so good, we went back right before catching our flight back to LA! I ordered the battered fish sliders. They were delicious! The sauce it came with really set this fish sandwich a part. The fish was so fresh, and not greasy at all. I also tried the ahi tuna sliders. It was my first time trying ahi tuna and the tuna was soooo fresh and good. They come with seasoned fries that were honestly perfection. My wife got the hurricane chicken plate - the sauce was horrible along with the portion, doesn't compare to what is displayed. I got the Kalypso burger - the batter to fish ratio was ugh, there was HAIR in the battered fish, the guava bun, BRUH, it was dry as hell, I literally ate the bottom half of the bun and threw the rest out because it wasn't enjoyable. Idk if we will eat here again. While we were waiting, the cook was on his phone, while handling the food, when I say handling, plating and shit so that was a red flag. Unsanitary as fuck. I have been to their Kihei location a hamdful times in the past. I was in the mood for some fish n' chips a few months ago and decided to give their Kahului location a try as well. This food truck is located at the new food truck lot by the Costco and Krispy Kreme intersection stop light where a number of other food trucks are available. Their sister businesses, Tsunami Burger, Aloha Thai Fusion, and Kraken Coffee are located here as well. There's ample parking available and the great part is they've added in covered tables to enjoy your meals at. As far as the food truck goes, their menu is pretty much exactly the same with salads, sliders, tacos, wraps, plate lunches, pupus and more. I ordered the fish n' chips and it was ready within 10 minutes. The portion was very generous with a bed of curly fries on the bottom and topped with 4 large pieces of fish. It came with their 2 sauces, a tartar sauce and their mango BBQ sauce. The mango BBQ is what sets their fish n' chips apart from the everyone else. Unfortunately, the fish n chips kind of fell flat altogether. It seems that the recipe has changed from what I could tell? The batter of the fish tasted different, was a different texture, and just didn't have that "wow" effect from all the previous times I've visited their Kihei location. I was a little disappointed, but I just added salt and vinegar, which I never had to do previously because the mango bbq sauce made up for everything and was so good. Tell me why the minute I touch down in Maui, everywhere I look on the yelps, people are talking about Seared Ahi? I love sushi. But Tuna isn't really my go to. I'm more of an Unagi or Salmon guy. But recently Da Nini's changed my perspective completely. We had just got off 5 hour flight from Cali. We be hungry. What's easy? Especially when you are trying figure out your life? DoorDash silly. As I'm checking what's available in DoorDash and checking Yelps I kept seeing Ahi Taco's everywhere. It was so much that I felt like that universe was telling me what I had to ordered. Yep. I ordered the Seared Ahi Tacos. Now if you love Sushi, I HIGHLY recommend them. This is basically the fusion of Mexican food with Sushi. You have the sesame crusted but yet super freshness of the fish. Then you throw it in these tortillas made from scratch. But then you finally add some leafy greens, fresh cilantro and the finale...Wasabi Lime Crema. This dish is a masterpiece. Even if you aren't a seafood but appreciate Steak, this might be your gateway into Seafood. The Ahi is traditionally prepared like you would a tri tip or any other kind of steak really. You want to taste all the juiciness and flavor of the meat so cooking less is more. Not to the extent of Sushi but definitely close. I believe it is cooked(I could be wrong) but not long which really makes you appreciate the fish. I get it Maui. I get Hawaii. I would expect you to have some bomb fish dishes. Prices seem fair to me too. I'm on an island. Theres like no taxes here which is beside the point. I think people that complain about prices must have never been to California. These Tacos could easily push past the $20.00 mark. The tacos are big and you get 3. I feel like for the price in California you would only get 2. And don't hit me with this, "oh the place around the block sells way better at ____ price." Are they Ahi Taco's? Are they at least twice the size of Street Taco's? This is seafood and on top of that its fresh and a favorite on the islands. Respect the cuisine. The food truck group near Costco offer variety and good taste and usually in pretty good time. My wife had a tasty chicken pasta bowl from Pele's and I went to one of my favorites, Da Nani's. Today I chose the pork sliders on the guava passion fruit bun with pineapple barbecue sauce and crispy tasty Cole slaw on top. The two sliders make a great lunch. We had one delicious dinner thanks to this permanent food truck in Whaler's Village. We ordered the fish of the day salad, which at the time was Ono, the crispy fish tacos and the kids grilled cheese sandwich with an extra side of curly fries. The food did take about 15 minutes or more to come out but the food was fresh and hot and flavorful. The ono was cooked well and came with a very large portion. The salad it was on was delicious with feta, macadamia nuts and the most amazing creamy dressing. The tacos were also amazing with a large portion of fish, good condiments and another great creamy green sauce. My daughter loved the grilled cheese and the curly fries have a great seasoning to them and were addicting and perfectly crispy. Friendly staff.
