Definitely get your entree with saffron rice, it's so tasty! The plate comes with green salad. They have an assortment of different salads you can upgrade to for $2.50 more. They have gyros, very huge serving. It's made to order so expect a wait for that. I've tried a few of their smoothies and enjoyed them. Da Spot offers catering also. Opened 2/27/18 at the Lanai @ Ala Moana! Still some operational kinks to work out, but the price is good and the food is great! Some familiar favorites like the Moroccan chicken and Egyptian Chicken Curry come as mini, regular, and combo. The Mini is a smaller serving and the Combo comes with two entrees (and if I remember correctly) one of the "deli" salads which are the heftier cold items as you enter the line. Mini and Regular sizes come with two scoops of rice and the complementary garden or green salad with a choice of dressing, not bad for $6 and $8 respectively (hope they keep the prices). Food is generally Mediterranean with a local influence and a couple of Thai curries and a cheese steak with mozzarella??? Da Spot is an inviting place to try out Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine without the snobbish attitudes of a haute restaurant serving high price ethnic food. I came in for lunch today and ordered a combo to go and another combo plate to dine in. The take out plate had Chicken Curry and Chicken Moroccan. The dine in plate had the Chicken Parmesan and the Chicken Gara Marsala. Both plates came with complimentary yellow or brown rice and lettuce salad. Yup, I really wanted to test out the food here. As you know, there is a different experience when you dine in versus take out. Usually, take out food is cold and cooked over done by the time you start eating. Whereas if you dined in, you expect the food to be steaming and be able to soak in the atmosphere of excited foodies like myself. The food is served a la carte style and no warmers under the tray. I know this because as the server scooped my chicken curry into the plate, no steam escaped. So don't expect your food to be piping hot when you receive it. The over all taste was inviting without the spicy after taste you get. The Gara Marsala had a bold taste of cinnamon followed by an after taste of some nut. The Chicken Parmesan was a refreshing taste of tomatoes with gooey cheese. The Chicken Curry is of the Thai variety--with peanut butter and other spices. The Moroccan Chicken looks like shoyu chicken but firmer in texture. I am happy that this place use thigh meat instead of the dry chicken breast meat that most health food places use. Our go-to spot when we want good-tasting, healthy, not-so-expensive food. We're surrounded by lots of fast food and plate-lunch places. Down-to-earth is the next closest, albeit doubly expensive, healthy food place. Most every plate we get is yummy. You get a choice of brown or saffron rice (which we always get), an entree, and a side green salad. You can sub your salad for a different pasta salad, tofu salad or veg @ extra charge. The bf likes the eggplant... I, the pesto pasta. They have specials sometimes. They cost a couple dollars more but can be a wonderful find. There's also an extensive menu of shakes and they even have an acai bowl. You could eat here everyday for a month and not repeat anything. The bad thing is they are right up the street from us so we go all the time... Or maybe that's a good thing? The line wasn't too long. The menu was big. This is a order and seat yourself place. I was eyeing the smoothie menu. 30 something flavored smoothie...gosh, it looks so good. I ordered the Egyptian chicken with brown rice and salad with papaya dressing. Also got the #25 Amazon Wave smoothie: haupia and acai sorbet, soy milk, mixed berries and strawberry. The chicken sauce was kind of salty but good. Chicken was soft and tender. My friend said the dressing doesn't taste papaya-ish, more like a thousand island flavor. It doesn't really bother me. Great tasting food 4 stars. Love their baklava 4 stars and delicious curries. we ordered the beef giro a 4.5 stars. Very meaty and a meal in itself. On the Covid downside 1 Star. Staff didn't wear masks properly because noses were exposed. Our order taker was very pleasant and helpful but his gloves were dirty. Luckily he didn't touch any of the foods. But he did use the same gloves to ring up the purchase and swipe the credit card. Management should educate staff more about wearing their face masks properly. How in the heck have I not reviewed Da Spot? This place may possibly earn the award of my favorite restaurant in all of Oahu. You heard right, Da Spot is phenomenal and you're missing out if you haven't made your way over here. The number one reason this place is the best around: You simply cannot find a dish of food so tasty, so filling, and so healthy for such a reasonable price. Mini plates start at $6, and this includes 2 scoops of saffron rice, a scoop of salad, and one of the basic entrees. You WILL leave this place filled and happy. Dishes include a variety of Mediterranean foods like their Moroccan chicken, various curries that may be Thai or Indian, or even Eggplant Parmesan. There are numerous salads you can upgrade to if you choose not to get the green salad, but I suggest staying with the free green salad and getting the papaya dressing. Aside from these stellar meals, they offer smoothies that start at $3 for decent sizes, and they are phenomenally delicious. There are a few dessert options as well. Da Spot makes great to-go food. I don't like eating in restaurant unless it's a super nice day since the place is open air with no AC and can get a bit muggy. Parking is around corner and a small (worthwhile) walk away. Da Spot is a fairly unique food joint that we go to often, especially after a hard workout. Located in Moiliili on King street, it serves all sorts of Mediterranean foods and has a health oriented focus. The interior is very open and often has live music playing. In the back is a sort of cafeteria style counter where you go down the line choosing your type of rice, salad and meats from a fairly large selection of choices. They also serve all kinds of smoothies which you can customize however you like. I've tried most of their dishes but some of my personal favorites are the cajun chicken and braised lamb shank. They frequently have some rather unconventional salad dressings as well such as papaya seed and watermelon. If you're looking for more you can always grab a piece of baklava or any of their other pastries on the way out. My husband and I frequent Da Spot at least once a week and we normally have nothing to complain about. Service is usually great and so is the food. Today, after we both had challenging days at work, we decided to pick up dinner from Da Spot. We were greeted by a worker who asked us what we wanted. We told him 2 combo plates no rice - all salad, and asked that we get our salads in containers. He gets 2 plates, goes to the salad bar and I said, "Can we get it in containers?" He looked at us and said, "Yeah, containers..." After filling the first plate, I said again, "Containers." He grabbed two small containers for the dressing and said, "Yeah I know, containers" while he continued to fill the second plate with the salad. My husband went to him and said, "Can we have the salad in containers?" He threw the salad filled plate on top of the other salad filled plate, got a container and filled it up with salad and dressing. He came back and said, "You still want combo plates?" After saying yes, he started to serve us our entree choices, throwing the food in the plates causing it to splash all over - then meeting us at the cashiers asking if that's it. With a small container of salad, I asked why we were only getting one when we ordered 2 combo plates, both all salads. He said he squashed it all into the container and I said, "No...we always get..." and without finishing the phrase, he was making his way to make us a smaller container of salad. I told the worker, "I have NEVER been treated or served like this when I've come here..." to which he said, "All our combos no rice, just salad is in a plate!" To which I responded, "Do you think we want our salads drenched in our curry?" He looked at me and wittingly answered back, "Well sorry." We paid for our food and for the first time ever, left no tip while we carried our dripping plates to the car. One of my favorite Mediterranean food places to visit. They offer a selection of many curries, salad, entrées, etc. with quick service and their curry includes very flavorful spices and seasonings. The Egyptian curry and lemongrass coconut chicken are definitely one of my recommendations and go-to options. I love the variety of dishes they make, my favorite is the egyptian curry. the reason why i gave this restaurant a 3/5 is because the meats come out a bit undercooked, specially chicken. the first time we went here my food tasted so good, but my friend noticed that her chicken parm was undercooked. upon seeing that, i cut the chicken up from my remaining egyptian curry and found the same thing. i had thought it was just a one time mishap, as i do understand the importance of getting meals out asap due to a huge influx of customers. but we've gone there a total of three times and the result is still the same and i end up having stomach aches right after the meal. we've stopped going here, which is unfortunate because i really fell in love with that egyptian curry. other than that, the staff is very welcoming and the restaurant is always breezy due to the location. read more

Service/Ambiance/Price: Service is super fast because the food is all pre-made and served cafeteria style. The people working were friendly. The ambiance is very casual - kinda just looks like a large garage and it is open air, seat yourself. I ate their food at a conference and they catered it, the food was amazing, there was chicken, fish, rice, salad, and brownies. EVERYTHING was soooo amazing, so I've been going there every week since because I go to school at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa and I work there as well so its so convenient for me to go here because there times are awesome and the prices can't be beat. There's free parking down the road, which is amazing because parking in the area where they're located sucks. I still need to try their smoothies, but they're so affordable small is $3 medium is like $4 and large is $6. They have mini plates for $6 and large is like $8 and combo plates are $10. I might be a little off on the prices, but its around there. There's so much variety to chose from here I still need to try a ton of stuff, but I love their chicken the most, so that's what I've been normally getting. The space they have is huge and can accommodate a ton of people. There's no air-conditioning though so its kind of hot inside. I'm not sure if there's a bathroom of not, but I love this place. Stopped in for a late lunch on Friday, 6-8-18, with my friend. I ordered the Moroccan Chicken Plate. In my opinion this chicken dish was overly sweet. The rice was mushy and the temperature overall was that it was cold, like it was sitting out and not at the correct temperature. It needed to be heated up. I've tasted better. The salad that I had on the side, needed a little more citrus. On the positive side, the customer service was great, the portions were generous, my friend enjoyed her chicken curry dish, although she asked me if her chicken was cooked, because it was a little pinkish in the middle.
