Stopped in for lunch based off Yelp reviews and were glad we did. This is real deal Indian home cooking. We had the lamb curry, palak paneer, and garlic naan. It all came with saffron rice. Everything was wonderful, fresh and wonderfully spiced. They also had some specials of the day and after seeing them go out, wished we had more room since they looked great as well. It takes a bit of time, but totally worth the patience as it seems everything is scratch made to order. You do get everything in Styrofoam dishes with plastic cutlery but I can forgive that because of the yummy flavors and generous portions. I wish someone would open a place like this closer to the far North Scottsdale area - I'd eat there every week! read more

Love this place. Has become our goto takeout joint on those lazy/too busy weekends. My wife is a vegetarian and I am carnivorous so this is the perfect compromise. I ordered the palak paneer to go and it was delicious! I asked for medium level spiciness and it had enough heat without being overwhelming. Rice came with the meal, whereas some other Indian restaurants charge separately for it. It was enough food to have leftovers for lunch the following day and it was under $10. After checking out the itemized receipt they sent me, I called to ask about the charges, they lied about that they charged and then refused to refund the overcharge. As a person who has just discovered Indian cuisine I hope my opinion carries some weight with those who are longtime purveyors and with the novice. First off, the staff is so very polite and welcoming. When I explained that I wasn't sure what I wanted because I haven't had Indian food but once or twice, they asked some questions and made a few suggestions. They highly recommended a spinach curry type dish with paneer and garlic naan. I did not know what paneer was but I'm the adventurous person so I agreed. I am so glad I took their suggestion! The flavor was outstanding and was piping hot. The paneer has the promised texture and complimented the other flavors and provided some body to the dish overall. The garlic naan was fresh and tender on the inside and game with just the right amount of garlic. Came to try on a friends' recommendation what a nice surprise. Not much to look at outside but the food oh boy. Never saw samosas with beef in them before and these were nice still with the curried potatoes but included nicely spiced ground beef. Had to have the naan and got the onion garlic naan great flavor. This is the worst Pakistani restaurant (named Indian restaurant) I have seen. We ordered chicken biryani and they gave us left over chicken tikha masala or butter chicken mixed with rice. Chicken 65 was the worst. The lady at the counter look at you to check if you are from India or Pakistan and make her face if you forget to tip. Not a single customer was there and I do not know why I went there. Will never go there. We threw the food in garbage and will never go there again. read more

I normally always eat chicken tiki masala but told the lady at the register that I wanted to try something different, and something spicy . She kindly recommended the anchari murgh. I also ordered some garlic naan. While waiting for my food there was almost a constant flow of people picking up to-go orders. I though "this is a good sign." We ordered idly and it was definitely microwaved .. when I complained about it , then the person there just asked us to wait 10 minutes without letting us know what they are going to do about it .. when I asked them if I could speak to someone else, then he called another person from the kitchen who just told me that he gave the same idli to a different table and they never complained.. this is definitely not the right way to respond ... This restaurant's Yelp page says it's open and they certainly accepted our order and payment 5 hours in advance. But when the delivery person arrived to pick up our order, she found "OPEN" signs except a little notice on one door that they decided to close today. I went in and ordered something off the menu that was 8.99. He charged me for 13... I thought it was weird but I didn't say anything. I'm then standing there looking around they have a baby sleeping on the couch behind the counter. The ground is disgusting it's just so gross in there I think I they live there. I could see In the kitchen it looked so gross. I know Indian food smells but it smelt like a dead animal In their with a combo of sweaty men's locker rooms. Four stars for me means I would go back. Admittedly, my standards may be lower than the regular city dweller as I live in a location that has exactly two Indian restaurants-- and they're helluva overpriced. We wanted to try Saffron but they were closed for some special event, so we went to the nearest Indian place which was this one. Hole in the wall, open late, super. They advertise themselves as specializing in biryani. So... we got chicken tikka masala (the gold standard for me), paneer butter masala, chicken vindaloo, chicken biryani, samosas, and naan. The samosas were alright- potatoey just the way I like them but they were a little salty. Chicken vindaloo was delicious and definitely something we would order again. Tikka masala good-- Im a little fussy about my chicken and I would have liked to know the meat was a mixture of dark and white-- I prefer white meat but the dark meat was edible (thats big coming from me). The paneer was alright- I felt the curry was underseasoned and ended up mixing it with either of the other two curries we had. Chicken biryani fine, nothing special but I honestly havent had too much of this specific entree to really know. As for the naan, I've tasted far better but they were soft and tasted fine. Wish there were roti options. Anyway, I'd recommend this for a quick Indian fix. Maybe my opinion would change once I taste a few more Indian places in the area. For now, this is far better and cheaper than anything we have in Santa Fe. read more

My husband and I have eaten at this Indian restaurant many times. Not once in all the years we've been going there have we had a bad meal. The lamb is exceptional, the palak paneer is the best I've ever had! The naan with Tamarind sauce is outstanding. We were in the area and this place has a great review from Yelp!, so we went in expecting great food. We had the mixed pakoras (crispy vegetable). They are okay. Then we each had a Biryani and they were good. The portions were also big. I could only eat half, so we asked for containers to put our leftover into. Since we also ordered a garlic naan and it never came, we asked for the naan to go. When I got home, I couldn't believe the gave me a burnt naan! Needless to say, I am throwing that out. Their take on vindaloo does not match with my, or most other restaurants, take on the dish. It's not traditional, or even modern vindaloo by most definitions. There's no sour, there's no heat, it's basically bland and yeah that's the key dish I try every new restaurant on. The onion pakora was excellent, good value but there's always a but. The two sauces green chutney, and tamarind? come in tiny cups that aren't big enough to dip but a corner in, and finicky so I ended up wearing it. I was highly disappointed by the size of the lamb Korma it had 5 small pieces of lamb in a very thin curry sauce, while the flavor itself wasn't bad, it was not enough to share even though we got biryani also. The biryani was not my favorite either. There's better options in the area so unfortunately I don't think I'm planning on going back which is a shame as it's so close to home. We stopped coming here over a year ago for many of the same reasons that other reviewers have mentioned. They continuously lower the quality of their food and it tastes like they reheat food from a day or two prior. We've been going to Indian Palace on bell road which has been a much better experience in case anyone is looking for alternates. The lunch buffet there is a nice assortment. read more

This is the most authentic Indian food I have tasted so far. All the food is very fresh. I had the chicken tikka masala which was very flavorful and cooked perfectly. The portion size was perfect and the staff was nice. I had the paneer, garlic and plain naan. To call the plain naan plain doesn't do it justice. The naan was amazing; light fluffy and crispy. Owner has conveniently changed his prices and website and take away menu does not reflect the prices . For every food item , he is conveniently charging 1- 3 $ more and does even bother to tell the customer that the prices are changed . It is only when you ask for the bill that you notice that he is charging more . Put doubts in your mind regarding his honesty and integrity. I will not go there again . I will rather patronize other Indian restaraunts like Hyderabadi Rasoi and Biryani Bites who are doing more honest business. read more
