Very rude. My son and I went in for dinner. It was Friday night and we did not have a reservation which was our mistake. We stood for at least 10 minutes at the reservation station with several waitress walk by us and ignored us. Finally the hostess came over and asked if we had a reservation. When I said no she gave me a look and said she would try to fit us in. There were several open tables. The icing on the cake was a party of three came in and interrupted and said they just called and could they be seated. The hostess was super nice to them and seated them immediately I am not ok with such rude behavior. Went to Dads all set to have delicious halibut (don't eat meat) and it is no longer on the menu. They have 2 salmon dishes on the menu but, they were out of salmon. They substituted cod which was just OK. The people in our party that had steak loved their meal. Disappointed in one of my favorite places! read more

Dad's Bar totally surprised me--in the best way. I came in hungry and left absolutely blown away by the steak. It was cooked to perfection, seasoned just right, and seriously rivaled steaks from high-end spots. You can tell they know what they're doing back there. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, exactly what you want in a small-town bar. Locals were chatting, drinks were flowing, and the service made you feel like family. We dined here June 26, 2025. My wife ordered the 6 oz fillet medium and I ordered the 8 oz fillet medium along with the half mashed potatoes and a trip to the salad bar. The salad bar was pretty good, there was the typical salad fixings along with cottage cheese, macaroni salad, and another similar salad that I found quite good. All the items on the salad bar were fresh. The steaks took a very long time to arrive and unfortunately they were much closer to well done than medium. Since it had taken so long already we decided not to send the steaks back. The half smashed potato was smashed to the point of being shipped, it tasted okay but we both wished we had ordered the baked potato. All in all an extremely mediocre meal. read more

I always spit our meals and they were wonderful by charging us a little extra for two salads, two separate side dishes and two breads. The amount of meat was huge and great tasting. It was our anniversary so they included commentary cheese cake. We will be back. read more

We're from SoCal and for the past four years, every time we've passed through Thayne, we have visited Dad's Bar & Steakhouse. We have been to pretty much every restaurant between here & Afton, and it is, without a doubt, the best restaurant with the best food--no competition. Period. The staff are always friendly and very helpful; the salad bar is incredibly fresh (and very clean); the portions are massive considering the price, and the steaks are phenomenal. Always cooked perfectly and super delicious. You can choose to eat in the "steakhouse" which is a smaller room with several tables and the salad bar, or you can choose to eat in the bar area which is a bigger room with more tables, a bar (obviously), and a stage for live music. We've dined in both areas. The live music is always really great. We really enjoy Dad's and will continue to visit when stopping through. read more

A great restaurant for local eats, especially for meat and seafood lovers. A must order for this place will always be the Prime rib. They have hefty servings so make sure to come with an empty stomach. One thing to try that ISINT listed on their menu is the Cake!! One of the best slices of cake I've ever had was from Dads Bar! They make it in house and it is amazing, I had the pistachio coconut cake and it was mouth watering amazing. A perfect finish to my amazing meal, just wish they had it listed on the menu so I could save room for dessert! Service was a bit slow, but they seemed to be short/understaffed at the moment. Regardless, the staff were very kind, friendly, and helpful. Cute on the inside and very homey feeling. 10/10 spot to stop! read more

The drinks are weak. The food is bland. But they have "add-ons" like a rub to pad the bill ( as if it weren't expensive enough). Appetizers: Calamari was tender but flavorless. The bacon wrapped scallops were rubbery and salty. Entrees: Prime rib looked great, but had zero flavor, son's filet was tender ( added the rub and mushrooms) and it was good but not worth $45. Daughters filet was bland, my chicken was meh. Check total for 4 people was $220 excluding drinks and no dessert. My advice - go elsewhere. Drive the extra 15 miles to Flying Saddle, or even Juan's Taco House. Don't waste your money here. Best part of the evening was the salad bar ....nuff said. read more

Last year I wrote a five star review for Dad's bar and steakhouse. However, when we returned this year, things had definitely changed! The person who sat us needs to be trained in customer service as she was very short and unwelcoming! The same person was also our waitress and had what appeared to be two young children with her at work. I'm sure this distracted her from doing her best job possible When I tried to order the chicken fingers that were so amazingly wonderful last year, I was told I could not order them. They are only on the child's menu now. In the past, I had always been able to order from the child's menu, but she was quite rude about it this year. I explained to her that I would be happy to pay the adult price, but she would not allow that When I attempted to order hot tea, she acted like it was a difficult task because she had to go heat hot water for me However, once again, my husband had their chicken with artichoke topping, which was delicious! Since I was unable to order what I wanted, we just decided to share his meal! Hopefully the owner or management will be able to train the server. She has to better understand how to provide greatcustomer service. read more

This place is a local icon. Been here for forever. In my 50 years of eating here, we've only had a bad meal once. The prime rib is what they are known for, but it's all pretty damn good. This is truly a Country Landmark. Very impressive the cleanliness, fresh salad bar, full bar, band, steak cooked to perfection. My husband had the end cut prime rib with a homemade horseradish sauce and I ordered the top sirloin black and blue. He ate all of his prime rib and his loaded baked potato. My steak was wonderful the rub had just a hint of heat that was calmed down by the blu. I would highly recommend this eatery if you are looking for a country atmosphere with great food and drinks! Finding good food in this part of the world is far tougher than it ought to be. I'd had an unpleasant dinner in Yellowstone two nights before and a sad and genuinely disappointing dinner down the street the night before. I was getting tired of crappy dinners. So we figured we'd try Dad's, a place that we'd somehow never tried in the several trips we've made to western WY. We were stunned! Positively giddy with stupification. Yes, the layout of this place is odd, in the back half of a bar. And yes, we had to wait for nearly half an hour on a weekday. But the service was friendly, the food was groan inducingly good and the portions were very generous. The steak was huge and the pulled pork sandwich.... also huge. We ordered both and split them among our clan of four. We sat there carving and munching and whimpering as we quietly rolled our eyes in delight. It was delicious and made far more delicious by the horrible meals we'd had at nearby restaurants. Dinner finally done we wrapped it up with tasty though not especially lava-packed lava cake. Dinner at Dad's vastly improved my night and restored my faith in the good sense and culinary acumen of the people of Wyoming. read more

Went to Dad's last night without a reservation. My mistake. When greeted by the first server, we explained our mistake and she replied no problem I will see what I can do to seat you. While we waited for her to find a table, a second server came to us and asked if we had a reservation, to this we replied no. She then told us they were booked up and that they would not be able to serve us. We asked if we could be served a steak at the bar, to which she said no. Do you have to be a local and have a dinner reservation in order to get the dinner menu? We walked in on a Friday night around 6pm, no reservations. Was seated at a table for 2 right away. The restaurant wasn't packed but there were some reserved signs on larger tables. Took a bit for someone to come over and we were only given a bar menu for dinner choices. Our waitress ended up being a bar tender and when I asked what was on tap, she said she didn't know and would have to check. We asked if there were any specials or a dinner menu and was told that the restaurant was full so only the bar menu was available. Everyone around us had actual dinner. We ended up ordering a couple of drinks and an appetizer of calamari, which took a very long time to get. When it came we weren't sure if it was calamari or mozzarella sticks, but at least they arrived hot. The place was nice inside, although the table we got seated at was for 2 and seemed to be 4'Lx2'W. Needless to say we were very disappointed in the overall interaction and dining experience. read more

I've been a regular visitor to Star Valley for about 25 years. In all that time I have never stopped in Dads. This year I heard they had a new owner and the place has been remodeled so I talked my family into a visit. I really wanted to like this place, especially as I heard from a local that the food was good and they served a tasty prime rib! We arrived just last 7 and a large group was in the bar area listening to live country music and appeared to be wrapping up dinner.... looks good so far! The dinning room is in the back and was half full, we waited for 10 minutes to be seated and another 10 before getting a drink order offered and another 10 before our dinner order was taken( uh oh). The only prime rib available was cooked to medium but I plowed ahead anyhow. And the results are..... Prime rib. Meh nothing special bland and barely warm the horseradish was good Baked potato. It was fine but no extras like bacon bits or chives just sour cream and butter Fresh veggies. I got 5 sad looking and mushy mini carrots Roll I think it was a Kings Hawaiian roll from a package Salad bar. Another patron called it "the best in the valley". I'd been following Dad's on Facebook for over a year so when I was in town to visit some longtime residents of Thayne they took us to Dad's so I could see what the fuss was about. I'd driven over 1800 miles and just wanted a good meal. We arrived mid-afternoon, around 3 or 4pm and a few people were there, maybe 10 not counting staff. No one greeted us so we looked for a table. We had to ask after seeing little signs on tables that said reserved. We were told they were booked with reservations. OK, fine, no biggie. We asked about a to go order and the bartender said he could do it, but some rude man sitting at the bar said no, the kitchen was too busy. I don't know who the rude man was, but I suppose he's the owner. To him I say great job. Not only did you refuse to serve us, one of the people in our party is an 82 year old US Military Veteran. So, sorry we didn't fit your bar vibe and weren't good enough to get carry out. We ended up having excellent meals at Graze and Flying Saddle Resort, places I probably wouldn't have tried if Dad's was more hospitable. Get some signs that say you're reservation only so others don't waste their time. Or better yet, if you're thinking of trying Dad's just don't waste your time read more

It's Christmas time in Star Valley, WY and we have had our annual staff party here for the past 8 years. We call ahead and get reservations and pre-order how many prime ribs we will be having. We like to eat around 6 to try to avoid the holiday rush. This is the best steak house in the valley and we enjoy this yearly tradition. Our prime rib was cooked to perfection and we had the choice of rice/fries/baked taters. The garlic toast and cooked carrots are delish but our very favorite is the salad bar. It is fresh and has a great variety. The restroom is located inside the bar so if you have children under age, it gets a little sketchy! :) We had a table of 11 and were automatically charged the gratuity. Watch closely, as you may not notice this addition! ---Tips and Tricks--- Get there early and order the end cut prime rib. Extra flavors and crispness is the best. Got the filet mignon which was amazing. Asked for rare to medium rare and got medium rare. Do not know if this is a common occurrence (cooking on the more well side). If you want the prime rib you MUST order when you get the reservation. Wish I had known. Molten lava cake was for 2 or more people, would recommend. Although the ice cream was meh. read more

I came through town to visit family and we stopped in for drinks after dinner. The place is a local dive bar but people were friendly to us. There was a live band that played covers of country songs. I found out the owner was the drummer. Couples were 2stepping to the band. It was a lot of fun. I wouldn't give 5 stars for this usually but what really impressed me was how attentive the staff were. My drink never got below 1/4 empty before the bartender came over to my table. Definitely coming back next time I visit. read more
