An amazing eclectic place with fantastic food. Greeted with amazing atmosphere and quickly made food. Their meat is ground in house. Bacon is fantastic. They make their own hot sauces as well and both are amazing. The Dads BLT is better than any I have had. Bacon, tomato compote, cucumbers, and horseradish cremé on Frenchbread. We ordered a cheese burger, add bacon, with smoked Gorgonzola. Perfectly executed, had great structure. Every component was amazing from bun to sauce. Two big thumbs up. For a casual breakfast or lunch, Dad's is my new Anacortes favorite. Funky & fun. No printed menus...everything is posted on the every-changing blackboard, so no menu stagnation. The cheeseburgers are delicious and the homemade buttermilk pancakes (thin & frisbee-sized, like crepes) are addictive; the homemade biscuits are insane. The waitstaff is friendly without being in your face; they consider this place their home, so if you're the type who cops an attitude, you just might get some attitude in return. Sometimes closes early if business is slow, so if arriving in mid-afternoon, better call to make sure they're not ducking out early. If you're in a hurry to catch a ferry, better let them know when you walk in the door cuz things sometimes get backed up. Unfortunately, only open for dinner on Fridays. During winter months, they close at 2:00 Mon-Th. If you're looking for institutional meals, this ain't the place (thank gawd). read more

After a weekend of sad food options on the islands, we were super excited to have a fabulous meal in Anacortes. We tried the hash (with brisket and veggies per our servers recommendation that was fabulous!), Carolina tacos, fried rice, and dad's plate (more basic breakfast)-they were all fantastic!! Fast, friendly, delicious food, cool decor, what more could you want? The giant pancake is very crepe style, which is awesome, since pancakes are generally way too filling. It was a Take Your Wife to Work Day for my husband so after his meeting it was lunch time. Now I have only eaten at another restaurant in Anacortes and it's really good. Dad's was "Stupid Good!!" It's small and you best get there early for lunch or you won't get a seat. We got lucky and got a table. The menu is on a chalk board. It's BIG and hard to decide if it's your first time there. I narrowed my choices to Dad's Plate, kinda breakfasty or the Bacon Cheeseburger. Our server recommended the burger since the brisket is ground in house, they make their own bacon-in house- In fact, they make ALL of their meats in house; the cheese is local as well as the buns & veggies. OMGOSH!! Hubs got the open faced roast beef sandwich. OK, let me warn you...when you get the table don't get in a hurry. If you don't have time for your fresh cooked food--don't go; it's not an in & out place. But if you want to enjoy FRESH HOMEMADE tasty goodness--this is THE PLACE! Our food came and it was GLORIOUS! Seasoned potato wedges were a lovely surprise with my burger. I do believe this burger is in the TOP 3 best burgers I have ever eaten in my life! The sandwich was so good-I did get a bite and OH MY! I love me some brown gravy!! Hubs has had the meatloaf is exceptionally tasty, but it wasn't on the menu so I must go again and see if it is there. My daughter and I stopped here for a quick breakfast before boarding the ferry to Canada. We did not realize Dad`s doesn`t do quick. We had 40 minutes before we had to leave for the ferry, so we ordered basic breakfast items. It was very early and it was not busy. They also had 3 cooks working the grill. She, had a breakfast sandwich and I eggs and ham. After 35 minutes I asked to have them put in boxes for takeout. They seemed to be insulted and continued to take their time. We got our food just in time to make the ferry. As we ate our cool and soggy breakfast on the boat, we both agreed, the food was even pretty good cold and with soggy toast. So, if you have a lot of time to kill, you will probably get a really good meal at Dad's. read more

Visiting friends and went to Dad's for a late lunch. The group had a ham & cheese w/fries, two Franco/Mexicans: french toast w/a blue cheese stuffed, roast beef wrapped jalapeno & a Greek salad. I was told the french toasted was fantastic, soft, thick cut slices of of light bread w/ the pepper in a thin, crispy slice of beef. The salad was unusual in that it had cucumber, kalamata olives and a mustard based potato salad. Although both components were good, I was not enamoured with the combination. On the way out we saw but didn't taste test the gorgeous cupcakes. Our waitress sent our order in wrong and profusely apologized. Poor woman had been at the emergency room with a sick baby. We took our mother there yesterday for her 88th birthday. She had the breakfast sandwich for lunch, and we had some other sandwiches. The portions were very fair, the quality of the ingredients was top notch. I had the beefsteak BLT with their house made bacon. It was a delight. This is a very busy place and it could have used one more server. We had to track down someone for more water, but it wasn't that big of a deal. It's just nice to not have to track down someone when you would rather spend time with the birthday girl. We recently had lunch here and we loved it. The only thing I am not crazy about is the chalkboard ordering system. Where it is placed if there is someone in that seat in front of it I feel like we are standing in the middle of their conversation. It also makes it hard to read the entire thing. If you chance upon Anacortes between the dawning of the day and the mid-afternoon rush, do yourself a favor and hit up Dad's. Fletcher is on the ball. The coffee is local, and excellent, and my cup never emptied. They make the sausage. They grind the meat for burgers. They make the bacon. Biscuits were choice, the gravy delectable: thick, without being heavy. The eggs were perfectly over medium. Right up until the last bite, I was debating ordering more. These were as good as anything I've had south of the Mason-Dixon, and they're just down the road from home. I'll be coming back, and singing Dad's praises to the corners of the country. read more

Like many reviewers, my wife and I were eager to Dad's Diner. We went in for breakfast on a weekday morning to a nearly empty house. Nice decor with lots of old pictures on the walls, and enough globes to outfit all the classrooms in a large school district. Our first problem with Dad's is there are no table menus. The menu is simply a chalkboard on the wall above the tables upon which the various choices are scribbled. I don't mind that kind of menu if I'm at a fast food burger joint, but not at a diner. It makes you feel like you have to rush to make your decision so the next person in line can have a crack at it. And the poor folks sitting at the table under the chalkboard must feel as though they are on display. I'm sorry, but I like to sit at the table and study the menu before I make my choice. We finally ordered and the service was good. Great coffee!! We didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive. I ordered the sausage and eggs and my wife had the brisket hash. The potato chunks on both plates were totally overcooked and salty. My wife's "hash" consisted of totally overcooked potatoes with a few chunks of fatty brisket thrown in, and a drizzling of some kind of sauce on top. Her eggs were way overcooked as well. The jam for her toast, which you have to request because it's not at the table, came in a sample cup. We estimated there was maybe a tablespoon to use on four pieces of toast. My sausage and eggs were abysmal. Along with the overcooked potatoes came a totally dry and flavorless sausage patty. The homemade biscuit was tough, as if the heated it up in a microwave. This was probably the first time I have never finished a breakfast at a restaurant. Look, if you want to call yourself a diner, then be a diner. Put menus on the tables, serve hash browns instead of over baked potatoes chunks, have an unlimited supply of jam available, and serve meat that's worth eating. I gave two stars only because the place looks great on the inside, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the coffee is great. All you have to do is serve food that justifies the prices you charge. read more

We had high hopes for Dad's. We usually stop for lunch at Calico Cupboard but decided to give Dad's a try instead. Upon entry, we were greeted with hearty smiles and the impression of a good lunch ahead. Our waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable of the menu. We settled on a burger, Salad and bbq sandwich. Our mouthes were watering. And that's where they stayed, for forty minutes till we were served. Two dishes came out first and the last 5-10 minutes later. The waitress excused the lateness due to a large 6 top table served before us. I don't consider 6 a large table but what do I know. The meal was ok and probably would give the food 3.5 stars but the fact that we waited so long left a bitter taste and hence two stars. read more

Found this place on a whim via Yelp. I can see why it has so many stars. I wanted to take a moment to compliment their gluten free menu. We ordered a breakfast sandwich on their gluten free brioche. The bread is outstanding! They're able to make just about everything gluten free. It's so cool to have such an inclusive menu. The service is outstanding!
