Other options might be tempting, but none of that have that punch of natural umami that the anchovies bring. There's another spot on 162nd that a lot of people like because of all their combinations and options, but this spot is as close to authentic Korean style you can get. It has chucks of oysters and you can control the spice level which is a big brownie point for me since I can't stand it when it's overly spicy. The sundubu stew is one of my favorite Korean stew and I'm glad I found a place that make it so delicious and it's perfect for cold winter days. My cousin ordered the Seafood Kalguksu which had tons of different types of seafood in it and it comes with noodles. The seafood pancake was delicious and tasted so fresh. I love how the restaurant had the dainty, modern setting even from outside. Whenever I pass by 162nd street, I will often glance on this restaurant with gusto. Finally, my friends and I were able to try this restaurant. Miss Kim and all her very friendly staff were nice and sweet from the beginning till end. Excellent food, service and ambiance! I feel a little ashamed that I, as a Korean-American, who loooooves sujebi, had not heard of this place until last summer. After trying it for the first time then, I've since always tried to come back here as often as I'm able to. Their portions are large, their kimchi is top notch, and of course, their sujebi is amazing. Service also happens to be very prompt and attentive, so that's a definite plus as well. I've taken my parents and my SO here several times, and they like the offerings here quite a lot as well. Come here early because this place is always super packed!! Me and my boyfriend came around 2PM on a Tuesday and there was a huge line of people waiting to be seated, once we tasted the food it all made sense. Super crispy korean pancakes --we ordered the bacon pancake and fish cake kalguksu to share and both were packed with flavor and came as huge portions. The kimchi and pear side dishes that came with our meal were super fresh tasting and I would go back solely for that kimchi! The seafood pancake was so crispy and so full of flavor. I've had seafood pancakes at probably over a dozen restaurants in Queens but this place had the best one. I was overcoming a horrible sinus infection and I still thought it was super tasty, even not being able to completely taste everything. The noodles and fried dumplings are good (I have ordered most of the noodles on their menu and it has been consistently good). The only downside with the noodles is that it makes the soup very starchy and eventually the noodles will suck all of the soup so don't even think about taking it home. The soondubu was not great - very salty and no vegetables - only clams and egg and I prefer to have vegetables in mine. 0 stars for service and it felt that way the last time I was was there but everyone deserves a second chance. Place was pretty empty and our party of six had to sit in the back by the restrooms. Started ordering and waitress had a look on her face like I was asking too many questions and bothering her. Asked for tea and the busboy had the same look on his face. Starting to think the facial expressions were part of their uniform. Food came quickly and when we finished eating, ask for some boxes to take leftovers including the kimchi which I forgot to mention was pretty good and made to my liking (not too sour). They are pretty efficient during your wait - they give you a menu and when you're the top on the wait list they take your order before you're seated. The seafood pancakes are super popular and HUGE!! $18 and good to split between 8-10 people. We didn't order it because there were only 2 of us and it was too pricey. Ordered the seafood kalguksu (their homemade noodles - 2 types) in a spicy broth and soondubu kalguksu (noodles with tofu). About $13/14 per bowl. HUGE BOWLS, like 2 meal servings. The seafood pancake was DELICIOUS. Super thick and soft. It was creamy and not too seafoody. The bonito flakes? move on top and make it very instagram worthy. The noodles were not great. I got the beef bulgogi soft tofu sujebi and my bf got the fish cake soft tofu sujebi. The noodles were varying in thickness so some parts were very chewy and others were soft. I enjoyed the thick chewy parts. However they were also very short, making it difficult to pick up with chopsticks. My friends tried different bowls of kalguksu and the noodles were like linguine. We found that the sujebi bowls are filled with less noodles and a lot of tofu. And the kalguksu to be filled with the noodles and less of the tofu. Flavor of the beef bulgogi was ok. Flavor of fish cake was bland. Adding the "m" sauce provided on tables helped a bit. Overall, the pancake was really good and would be the only reason I'd come back. They weren't oily and still had a crunchy crust which was perfect! The noodles were huge portions as well- soondabuk noodles were fresh, hand cut with good consistency and texture. Very homey Korean spot. The venue gave out cozy modern and minimalist coffee shop vibes with its wooden support beams and benches. It was crowded on a weekend evening, so that was a great sign. The staff was friendly and the food was prepared quickly. The pajun or Korean-style pancakes are popular here. My party and I had their seafood and bacon oko pajun, which is also served with bonito flakes and okonomi sauce. Similar to Japanese okonomiyaki. This was served on a sizzling hot platter and all we had to do was cut it into even pieces. There was a decent amount of batter/toppings per slice and everything went well with the okonomi sauce. Definitely recommend. I also had a bowl of their beef bulgogi soft tofu sujebi and I wasn't fond of it. I thought this dish was bland and I didn't enjoy it. The broth, the meat, nothing was flavorful. The noodles, however, were very thick, filling and mochi-esque in texture. Similar to udon noodles. Aside from the sujebi, I enjoyed my first visit here. Wow, i dont even know where to start. A friend recommended this place and said their pancakes were the best he'd had. I took his word and gave it a try. Came on a Saturday lunch time, 1pm, there was a short like, two parties of two ahead of me, but the lady took my name down. I didnt have a plan b, so of course we waited. It is a small restaurant, no more than 12-15 tables. Its not too small but its not one of them restaurants you can loiter around or really take your time eating, especially not during the prime time hours. We waited outside, and when we were next, the lady came outside to get me, had us stand by the door, handed us menus and said we can order first. My friend warned me the pancakes were going to be very big and he was not kidding. We looked at the other tables, they were ginormous. The hardest part was choosing the entree. We thought about ordering a noodle each but looking at other couples and parties of 2, they all seemed to have the same game plan, one pancake and one noodle, and thats what we decided on. We ordered the seafood & bacon pancake and beef tofu noodle soup, with the knife cut noodles. We only waited less than 5 mins after she called us in. Once sat, a waitress brings a small clay pot with kimchi inside it and proceeds to cut the cabbage with scissors. that was so awesome, so fresh. It was one of the best kimchis ive ever had. it was not spicy, it was more sweet than anything. i cant eat spicy so this was perfect for me. next time, im going to ask if they sell it. its THAT good. they also provided this pickled dish, not sure if its sliced pear or apple, but it was good. vinegary and sweet. delicious, i would buy that too!!! The pancake finally arrives and boy it was huge. They instructed us to use the bottle with the P label, for pancake sauce, which tasted like a combination of soy sauce and some sugar. It was amazing. It was light, not doughy like many places, airy, crispy and not greasy at all. They load up the pancake with fillings, so every bite has some sort of seafood, veggie or bacon. Next came the beef tofu noodle soup. It didnt look anything spectacular but it was very flavorful, it was not too spicy (though i told her to make it medium), so my kind of soup. It was a tofu based soup, and you get to choose your type of noodle, the traditional noodle or the knife cut. We chose the knife cut. It reminds me a little of rice cake, but better, more texture. But if you like rice cake, you should get the knife cut noodles. I think every party that eats there doggy bags. Dont recall any one leaving empty handed. We ate about 2/3 of the pancake and barely finished the noodle soup, we left about a small bowl amount. Its not that we didnt want to finish it, it was just way too much food, eventhough its only 2 items. I am so glad we didnt order a noodle each. Bulgogi and seafood noodle soup broth is just boiled tap water. Then they put in waterever you ordered with a ton of noodles and tofu. There is no flavor to the tap water broth except from what you ordered. So we got boiled seafood and boiled bulgogi. The main ingredient was starchy noodles. This makes starch water broth. There were noodles clumped together that did not cook through, hard and unedible. The soup broth had absolutely no other flavor but starch from the noodles that were boiled in it. They think spice is a flavor here and it is the only flavor in their soup. News flash its a condiment that brings heat and red color to water not much flavor. I do not recommend the kimchi at all. It was overly rotten sour flavor with tons of spice again no flavor. I like heat the kimchi was floating in red hot sauce but did not bring the heat or flavor. Disappointed to say the least. Service was subpar in the restaurant and the wait staff does not speak english. They cater to a large Korean local it is a social gathering spot for quick bites on a limited menu. They did refuse to let me doggy bag the kimchi we ordered and pointed to the numerous signs stating kimchi for sale and wanted me to buy more kimchi. It was not worth it. I requested a container no less than 5 times and was refused. Only when I started asking why in their Korean language did they finally just relent and accepted that I would not purchase kimchi to go and brought over a small container. As a person who loves noodles, I've been wanting to try out this spot for so long! This is the first time I've had kalguksu and I had lots of high hopes as many of my friends have raved about this place. We ordered for takeout & we got the seafood kalguksu, little neck clam kalguksu and the beef bibim guksu. Let me start of by saying they gave each meal a side of kimchi but it wasn't one of those small little containers, we each got almost an 8oz size of kimchi for each person. We didn't pay extra for it and we were so pleasantly surprised and now I have extra kimchi for my next meals. Our noodle soup broths we're still so hot even after being out for almost 20mins. Usually with any noodle soup I bring home, I almost always have to heat the broth up because it's not warm enough but this was not the case. They also don't skimp on the toppings, our noodle bowls came with plenty of seafood. The noodles themselves are delicious, nice and bouncy, not too doughy and you can still taste the nice light broth with the noodles. I have to go back to eat in person so I can try the paejeon and other things on their menu! This place is perfect on a cold day as the hot soup will warm your body right up. read more

My husband and I first experienced Daesung Korean Noodle as a random find through UberEats and were BLOWN AWAY by everything we ordered: mandoo, kalguksu, and the bacon pajeon with hot peppers. I had never experienced that level of care in packaging/delivering noodles and jeon before (they have a special aerated box with a heating tray that keeps the jeon crispy), and the flavor of everything we ordered was so exceptional, even for Foodie Mecca Flushing. That being said, we were soon cut out of their delivery range, which was devastating, so we recently made the trip in person. The restaurant itself is so modern and cute, very minimalist but with personal unique touches and clean decor. The staff members are beyond welcoming and friendly. They all collectively greet you when you enter and leave the establishment. The food is what takes this place over the top though. Their jeon is incomparable to any other I've ever tasted (including in Korea), and their noodles have the perfect texture and seasoning. I would frequent this place weekly if it was a little bit closer but will definitely be making the trek as often as possible regardless of the distance. It's well worth it. read more
