Not sure if marinated would've made the meat taste better but either way still a small quantity and poor service throughout since the moment we walked in. I always enjoy my experience at Kum Sung BBQ because of the cozy atmosphere, great food and excellent service. Once I sat down, the staff brought a variety of delicious side dishes. If you come at lunch time, they have a nice list of lunch combos to choose from. The staff also checks up on you if you need anything else. There's plenty of parking outside and only a three-minute walk from the Murray Hill Train Station so the location is great too. Kum Sung is a solid KBBQ experience overall. I had never had Korean-style duck before, so it was a nice change from standard beef/pork. The duck tasted leaner than other forms of duck I've had, but it was flavorful and pretty tender. We also got the garlic samgyupsal, which was decent; however, the garlic marinade didn't really add much to the meat, and it basically just burned off and got stuck on the grill. We walked in and were seated quickly. The menu had a lot of good bbq options as well as soup and cold noodle dishes. We ordered the haemul kalguksu and sul-leung tang. Immediately after ordering the server brought over lots of banchan which was nice. There was salt, pepper, and a spice on the table to adjust your dish to your liking. Sul-Leung tang was very simple flavor wise but the noodles were well cooked and it was an enjoyable dish that felt good for you. The haemul kalguksu was a little spicy and well flavored with bouncy, more chewy noodles. In addition to the banchan served at the start of the meal we also received 2 small yogurt drinks with the bill. The interior is clean with no frills decor. We wanted to try a KBBQ that's off the beaten path...I think we'll stick to the beaten path from now on. We read some reviews and it seemed ok to us. I like how many reviewers stress that the marinated meats are not too sweet which is true and the meats are fantastic. What Kum Sung really lack is overall speed. It was just the two of us and we ordered their "black bean" seafood pancake which was different and nice. It had a really nutty flavor to it. The bon chon was very humble which was fine but it apparently only Korean patrons got kimchi cabbage. Our food took forever to come out and it wasn't even a full house. I timed approximately 20 minutes...for seafood pancake and a cold noodle broth. We did notice that if you ordered from the KBBQ menu, you got your food almost instantly. But 20 minutes for a pancake and cold noodle broth is just waaaaay too long. There are good things going for Kum Sung BBQ but they have a lot of issues that shouldn't be issues at all. I came to Kum Sung BBQ because I wanted to try Korean style raw marinated crabs for the first time. My friend convinced me to order the Naengmyun + LA Galbi combo as well because she said the restaurant is known for their cold noodles. She ordered the Sunji Haejang Guk because she likes hot soups mixed with rice. The blue crabs tasted fresh, so it paired nicely with the rice, but due to the soy sauce marinate it was definitely on the salty side. The Naengmyun was super chewy and the broth was a mixture of sweet, tangy, savory. Delicious! I was given vinegar and Korean mustard on the side to add to my liking. My friend said the Sunji Haejang Guk (ox blood with pieces of beer and vegetables in beef broth) was light and she liked how they provide spice on the side so customers can adjust per preference. Other than the dishes we ordered, we were provided with an abundance of bonchon (side dishes). I enjoyed the variety and how traditional the side dishes are (as opposed to just kimchi or picked radish that more modern Korean places give). This is more of a traditional Korean restaurant and the staff was very nice. My friend spoke Korean to the staff, but they made sure to explain and made me feel included. Haha. read more

Came here with my boyfriend yesterday around 7:30 and had to wait over 30 minutes to get seated! This block is really poppin with outdoor dining. I liked that they separated the tables- the restaurant next door literally had people on top of each other. We ordered the mul nengmyun, gamja tang, and two orders of the duck bbq (minimum 2 orders) Nengmyun- broth was very icy, refreshing and delicious. The noodles are very chewy. Gamja tang- would probably pass on this next time. Usually this dish is cooked for a lot longer that the meat falls off the bone. The broth was also fishy- maybe they put anchovies..?? Duck bbq- GOOD. But pricy. Two orders of this isn't really that much, for two people. I was introduced to this restaurant through the Seated app. They have a 2 BBQ order minimum if you want to eat BBQ. Initially my game plan was to try the duck BBQ and the grandfathers kimchi bulgogi, but turns out they come in different pans so you can't combine grandfathers kimchi with meats that are cooked on the flat grill pan. Instead, we got the duck BBQ, garlic marinated pork belly, and soy marinated crab. Pros: The banchan selection was A++. The ssamjang was delicious. The pork belly was excellent! The soy marinated crab (ganjang gejang) was delicious with a side of rice. Not fishy at all. The grilled garlic that came with the duck was bomb. Our waitress was very sweet, and I love not having to grill my own meat. Amazing ventilation. I was shocked that I didn't smell like KBBQ at all after leaving. Love that they gave a little Yakult drink with the bill. Cons: The duck bbq wasn't as duck flavored as I was expecting. Fun to try but I'll probably stick to my basic beef and pork cuts next time. I've come here several times because even my extremely picky Chinese parents enjoy it. First of all, the amount of banchan is INSANE. Like we were scrambling to eat it because it wouldn't all fit on our table. I would come here just for that tbh. Their signature dishes are their kimchi bulgogi and grilled duck. The duck was honestly just okay, not as flavorful as I expected. I really like the kimchi bulgogi though, the sourness really complements the fatty beef. The staff is really sweet despite us not speaking Korean, and also gave us some complimentary spicy raw crab that was delicious! Not fishy at all and while very spicy, was such a treat. I will definitely be back to try their soy marinated crab. Also their naengmyun is bomb. Get it. Alright full disclosure: I'm not a fan of overly sweet things and Koreans tend to put sugar in everything. Also I wanted to try nengmyen not knowing what to expect. The broth didn't personally fit my preference but my lord those arrow root noodles were super chewy in a good way. I just personally prefer savoury flavors for my noodles and broth. Wouldn't be fair to leave a lesser review based on my personal preference this could be an amazing nengmyen but I wouldn't know. It was definately interesting, the broth was sweet (argh), a little savoury (yay), and little sour (meh). Personally not for me. I need to come back for the bbq and pork belly for sure. So my rating is going to be based off the golden standard of all korean places: the bonchan (free side dishes). Every bonchan was 10/10. Holy crap that was unexpected. They end the meal with a complementary korean brand yakult (yogurt drink part of every asian kid's childhood). Came here with a friend for outdoor dining. Honestly, for what the restaurant business has been going through, they have surprised me with outstanding food and service. Been here a few times, and last night, the food quality was exceptional. I've been going here many times for takeouts and sometimes dine in, and to my surprise, the food quality has been consistent. Which is very rare to find these days. Got the naeungmyun and galbi special plus daegu jungol. my friend and I loved that the jungol wasn't too spicy and overtly seasoned. Another trip to Flushing as I was craving some good naeng myung on New Years Day. I know, it's a little weird because usually naeng myung is only served in the summer because it's cool and refreshing. But I'm glad they have naeng myung here as a stable and it was delicious! You can tell this is a small, family owned and operated restaurant. The lady/owner was saying hi and chatting at almost every table. It was New Years Day so the lady took our order basically told us we should also get an order of dduk guk to share per tradition. We also ordered Halabuhji Kimchi Bulgogi in addition to naeng myung and dduk guk. So once again, the lady told us we ordered too much food so she would just give us one portion of naeng myung and split for us. She felt like a mom to me, in a very good way. I mean when was the last time you go to a restaurant and people tell you you ordered much food?! Anyways, everything was delicious. I actually haven't had that kimchi bulgogi before, it was surprisingly good. You just have to eat the beef fast or it'd get overcooked. Naeng myung here could be the best I've had. Broth was perfectly balanced sweet and sour, plus a bit spiciness. Noodle itself was chewy in the right way. After we finished, the desert is the traditional Korean sour milk (I really don't know how to describe it or what it's called), and it's one of my favorites! Once again, the downside is to find a street parking spot, especially given Hahm Ji Bach is practically two doors down and it's popular. Wow! It's been a while since I had authentic Korean bbq! I can't go back to the other places anymore. Our friends placed the order of naenmyun (so refreshing and I heard their soup is homemade), marinated duck (perfectly cooked), raw crab (deliciously paired) and this bbq kimchi rib eye (best on the menu). The trick is to eat the rib eye wrapped in kimchi then slurp the refreshing cold noodle. The service was also amazing. We got seated right away and they checked in on us frequently. I came on a sweltering day because I was craving naengmyun. I've heard a lot about their naengmyun and this place is actually famous for it! Naengmyun is Korean style cold noodles with beef, a pickled veggie and a boiled egg. Their naengmyun did not disappoint. They have a special which is not on the menu but posted on the walls of the restaurant. I ordered the naengmyun with dduk galbi. Their dduk galbi is a mixture of galbi with tofu. They taste really great together. The naengmyun noodles were chewy and the broth was very refreshing. My friend had their potato stew which I thought was just ok. Absolutely one of my favorite Korean spots in Flushing! There are probably 5-6 tables outside so maybe you might want to call ahead on weekend nights. The must-order here is Halabuji Kimchi Bulgogi. Note that there's a minimum of 2 orders of this (so $50) but it's totally worth it! The kimchi is freshly pickled and the bulgogi is one the best slices I've ever had. The broth coming from the beef and kimchi is amazing. LA Galbi and Seullong-tang are kind of the same as other nearby restaurants. I ordered through Grubhub at night on Sunday, May 1st and spent around $30.99 for pork belly, $17 for kimchi stew, and $18 for dwenjang jjigae. I was so excited to have a big hearty meal but when it arrived, I was so disappointed. I was flabbergasted at first, like seriously? Did they mess up or is this how they're going to play me? I don't even have to explain if you look at the photos (I did not touch the food prior to taking the photos). I felt scammed out of my money; how can a restaurant do this and think it's okay?? I literally counted because that's not the serving size I would expect at any kbbq restaurant for $31. I've never experienced this from any Korean restaurant. This is fraud and they should be ashamed that they could even fill the containers to half or even less than half and send it away. It looked so unappetizing, like someone ate from the containers already and decided they wanted to give away their leftovers. Heat wave season is a-comin'! Which means your belly should start prepping itself for a coooool summer of Vietnamese bun, Chinese liang mian/liang pi, Japanese hiyashi chuka/soba and Korean konggooksoo/naengmyun. Oh, bless the cold noodle. Bless it dearly. The naengmyun (literally, "cold noodle") is served with finely crushed ice still floating in the bowl. There are 4 options (consisting of varying levels of broth/spiciness) x 4 types of noodle to choose from: - nurup (elm starch) - chik (arrowroot starch) - momil (buckwheat, similar to Japanese soba) - ogapi ("shrub of araliaceae"???) (I'd assume most if not all of these noodles are gluten-free. The momil noodles - like soba - may have some wheat added in.) I'd been dreaming of the best naengmyun I've ever had (in Seoul, alas), and this one didn't come close. But it's good, and definitely the coldest noodle you'll find for those sweltering days. The broth for the mul-naengmyun (the watery variety of naengmyun) is refreshing, lightly sweet and sour. Because it's in the restaurant's name, I chose the chik/arrowroot noodles - somehow one of the less interesting options, but unrelentingly slippery, springy, and fun. The whole thing is topped with thin slices of sweet pear, radish, cucumber, half a hard boiled egg, some gochujang, and just a cursory amount of beef. Be aware that if you order naengmyun, the banchan (side dishes) are much more basic than if you get Korean BBQ. We received: cold fried potato patties, a limp salad, pickled radish, mung bean jelly dressed in soy sauce, and a mug of warm broth each. Though this place specializes in naengmyun, at least in name, they serve a large variety of other noodle dishes. Next time, I'll go for one of the stranger noodle starches in bibim-naengmyun form (unlike the mul-naengmyun, the "bibim" variety is based in a thicker spicy sauce and meant to be mixed up). read more

The waitresses are very friendly old korean ladies. They were very mindful and conscious of their customers. For example, I came here with my sister and my mother - they served my sister and I iced water while giving my mother hot tea! They also did other small things to go out of their way to further accommodate my mother which i thought was very considerate and nice. While every table has the setting for korean bbq, many people including us opted for just ordering other dishes. The noodle dishes were very large and good. Kum Sung serves by far one of the best mix of banchan I've tasted in Queens. The soy sauce marinated raw crab and fried potato slices are included. The gamjatang tasted great with rice, but did not have enough broth so we asked for more and the server gladly provided. Thumbs up to the service!
