Back again, and I am convinced that I need to visit more frequently! Lunch with one of the grandkids. The lunch special offers lots of choices and we each find ours. Alex is having the Teriyaki Chicken Lunch special, I, the sashimi lunch special. Miso soup comes with each and the main servings are generous. My sashimi was excellent. Tuna, Salmon, Red Snapper and more filled the plate. Fresh and delicious. Alex's teriyaki, the same. Perfectly cooked and well portioned chicken served with salad, California Rolls and more. Feels like I found a gem seeing as how most restaurants are closed on Mondays around the area. They have a wonderful lunch special any 3 rolls for 16.95$ including BOTH miso soup and salad. For this time around I ordered the California roll, spicy kani and avocado rolls. Side note if you prefer hand rolls over regular rolls you have that option. That was definitely a unique take. The miso soup was delicious and had plenty of tofu unlike other spots who skimp out. I loved that the salad had fixins like tomatoes, cucumber, red cabbage and shaved carrots instead of just plain lettuce. Now the sushi was delicious! We're NYC sushi snobs and in typical snob fashion we assume that local sushi joints outside of NYC won't be too fresh. Finally popped into Niji and happy to say they proved us wrong. Got multiple rolls -- from the basics to the special rolls and everything was really delicious. Nothing was fishy or seemed unfresh. Sushi Niji is conveniently located at the edge of town. Nice quiet spot to meet with a friend for lunch or dinner. I usually get the Chef's Special Rolls and they have yet to disappoint! Sushi Niji is a small sushi spot in Dobbs Ferry. Their spicy tuna roll (not as spicy as Sushi Mike's), shrimp tempura roll, peanut avocado roll, salmon sushi, and lunch box specials are my favorites. They are currently doing takeout and delivery only as their dining room is closed due to Covid. Their delivery times are quick & they know their customers and their orders, however, they are not overly friendly no matter how many times you go there. We like Sushi Niji and order from here semi-frequently. The people there are nice, orders are on-time (we usually do pick-up) and the food is completely solid. We typically stick to rolls and they're fresh, reasonable portions that make us happy. We've ordered appetizers in the past and feel these are a bit lackluster -- the cold soba noodles, while delicious, are a pitifully small portion (for almost $9!). I'd order them in the future if it wasn't more than like 5 bites worth. Definitely worth a try, but stick with the sushi and rolls. read more

Mixed feelings about this place. I really wanted to give this place like 2.5 stars, but being the nature of things this past year with the pandemic and all, and the fact that restaurants are struggling, I decided to bump up the review to 3. I only dined in there once about ten years ago. I don't remember anything standing out about the restaurant back then. However, I recently decided to order delivery from them and I ordered about $100 worth of food. The plus is that the food came pretty quick. We ordered a chicken teriyaki bento box, chicken and shrimp hibachi, and various rolls. I was very disappointed with the chicken teriyaki- it was undercooked and under seasoned. It's like they literally just poured teriyaki sauce over boiled chicken. The chicken and shrimp hibachi was also extremely underwhelming. Don't expect classic hibachi style- it was literally like a lighter teriyaki sauce version and it was super watery. Don't expect them to give you any of those dipping sauces they give at hibachi restaurants either. It was straight soy sauce from this place. They should not advertise that they do hibachi if they can't do it the right way. The rolls were decent, not the best I've had but not terrible either. We also ordered shrimp shumai and some other dumplings. Regular. Nothing outstanding. I much prefer the other Japanese places in the vicinity. They still have pretty good reviews on Yelp though, which is a little baffling to me....but to each is own I guess. I probably won't be ordering from them ever again, unless every Sushi place in the area shuts down and I'm desperate. Good luck to them though. read more

I love it here. Clean, quiet, not crowded. Very nice people. Sushi was fresh and melt in your mouth. I had tuna avocado,Alaska roll and spicy tuna or spicy salmon roll. I like the naruto rolls too. All delicious. Put avocado in and I love it. They know my order. It's kind of funny. I guess I order the same thing. I don't eat eel or some of the more exotics so it's Tuna and salmon and sometimes yellowtail for me. It's all great. Free sake with order over 20 dollars. The brown rice is different and delicious. It has red and black rice. They said it is heathy for the heart and lungs. I need all the help I can get! This is healthier for me to eat. I still like my pizza and BBQ. But I am here at least twice a week. Lunch special is fantastic. I liked the Atmosphere here. I will be back again and again. Or they will deliver it all to me! read more

The quality of the food here has steadily gone downhill during the last 5 years. Today I had sushi in which all the different kinds of fish were absolutely tasteless. I shouldn't have to drown them in soy sauce and wasabi to make them have a taste. Also, one piece of salmon sushi was so thin in the middle that the rice was poking through. The previous time I ordered from them, the salmon was absolute mush. I had to take it back, and even the second batch wasn't normal. Their appetizer portions are shrinking (hijiki and spicy salad, for example) but prices keep rising. I live a minute away from this restaurant, so I'm not a tourist passing through who happens to catch a good meal. This is the last time I'll order from them. Even if it's inconvenient that Sushi Mike doesn't deliver, and it's more expensive, I'll walk the 3 extra blocks to pick up food. I've ALWAYS gotten absolutely fresh, flavorful food there. read more

The rolls, sushis and sashimi are definitely tasty looking , appetizing, delicious and filling. My fave is the dragon roll and chiratsi , made and freshly served. Sushi Mike's was closed so we went here instead. The place is smaller, more minimalist, and gives off a traditional Japanese vibe as opposed to the more modernly nautical-themed Mike's. But that isn't reflected in the food, which is just as trendy as Mike's but significantly less tasty. The special rolls are pretty small. Sashimi selections were nothing special, although they were presented beautifully. The a la carte sushi menu is also a little expensive (you only get 1 piece of sushi per order). The food is fine for what it is, which is your standard suburban New York area Japanese place. For something a lot more incredible, go over to Sushi Mike's. read more

The lunch specials are a great value with soup, salad, entree so we're able to do a lot of sharing.
