If they removed their posters and added some decor to the windows they'd get a lot more business. read more

Unfortunately, the food was not that good and the service was the worst! I placed and waited for my order patiently for at least 20 minutes. The girl placed my order on the counter and went to the register and helped several other dine in people and also people picking up other to go orders. She looked over me while I was still standing there waiting. I had to ask her for my order. When I brought the food to my family, the food was cold and didn't taste good. Ordered takeout, 3 different ramens (black garlic, mapo tofu, and shio) and chicken katsu for our family of four. The food was inedible. Seriously, dried ramen from the supermarket is better than this. We tossed the black garlic and mapo tofu ramens after a few bites. The black garlic broth was oddly bitter, and the mapo tofu ramen had absolutely no taste. It was like drinking thick, warm water. Customer service was SHIT! We (family of 3)waited for 45 minutes to only receive our 4 piece gyoza and water!! Also, during those 45 minutes of waiting, we witnessed people that got there 10 min AFTER us receive their water, gyoza AND their entrées!!! Tried to get the servers attention and she said "wait" and kept walking. We decided to leave. All the server could say was "oh sorry" That is NOT good customer service. How about "please let me check on your food and I'll make it STAT" or "can I offer a discount?" NOTHING. "Oh sorry" does NOTHING for customer service. This place was HORRIBLE. I should have read the yelp reviews before stepping into this place... but oh well... Maybe consider changing the name of the establishment to Daiichi Fried Rice. It was about the only decent dish on the menu. Also, how this place has the same # of stars as Menya le Nood is beyond absurd. Our party had the following: 1 tantan + gyoza + fried rice combo 1 tonkotsu 1 beef curry Noodles overall were very overcooked. Some may like it that way, but i think the general prefence is just slightly undercooked, washed in cold water, and drained. Tantan missed the mark for me, but was still not the worst. I would have been able to finish it. It did not have that spiciness from chili pepper oil, but rather shoyu based soup mixed with chili pepper powder or doubanjiang. Tonkotsu was almost inedible. When I order pork broth, I always expect them to have some pork odor to it, but not as strong as tonkotsu broth here. One would think if it has such strong odor, it would be really creamy, but as suggested by many others who left reviews it was surprisingly watery. The menma they use also had really weird after taste and odor, which affect the broth. Eggs are not your typical yolky ajitamago, but almost like a boiled egg. At least they got the color right! Beef curry was meh. It tastes awfully similar to curry house mix. The beef was overcooked and tough. Fried rice was actually pretty good. Had wokhei and mix of sweetness, savoriness, and saltiness. Very simple, but well made. Credit where credit is due. Overall, it's a good place to go if you miss local ramen shops we had before all these authentic Japanese style ramen-yas like Wagaya, Menya, Golden Pork etc were founded. it's new! there's a discount during their opening weeks. prices are reasonable, considering the nose-bleed high rent they must have to pay to Bishop Estate. for an add'l. $1, you can order other ramen styles: tan tan, tonkotsu, zasai, black garlic, curry. gyoza is big & fat -- yummy! their menu is very similar to Ramen Ya, their competition with more locations, but Ramen Ya has not-Japanese owners (ramen is a Japanese word) & a usual brusque (curt, snappy) manner among the wait staff, even over the phone, that irks some folks. is that perceived brusqueness cultural only? or maybe the hired help & owners couldn't care less how customers perceive them? Daiichi offers udon also for all their ramen offerings. sometimes udon "hits the spot" -- their fatness reminds me of sumo wrestlers. their broth is much better than Ramen Ya & isn't overpowering the way that many dead serious/one-shop ramen eateries (Manichi, Wagaya, et al.) make their broths. i peeked into the kitchen, their cooks were young males from Japan (the waitresses too), not the assorted ethnic cooks you'll see at some other eateries. like other ethnic groups, tradition is very strong among Japanese, esp. when it comes to food preparation. condiments on the table are labeled ! which is a rarity. tossed salads are available which nicely complement meat side orders if you're t r y i n g to eat healthier & avoid carbs/oil. read more

Very unhappy first time visit. They forgot the curry sauce for the chicken katsu curry order. I called them and told them they forgot to put in the curry sauce. They said that they would give me a chicken katsu curry plate the next time for free, I told them that I am coming now and would like the free chicken katsu curry plate now, they said OK. When I arrived they tried to just me the curry sauce, I told them I would have asked them to deliver it if they were going to only give me the curry sauce (the drive for me was 20 miles roundtrip). Finally they agreed to give me a chicken katsu curry plate. Forgetting the curry sauce caused my party to eat at different times and basically ruined the entire experience of sharing a takeout meal together, it also completely destroyed the mood for the evening. The pieces of chicken katsu were not nice pieces at all, more like bits and pieces, cut maybe 1/4" thick. The ramen's were also overcooked by quite a bit, was not able to finish. Overall, we did not enjoy the meal at all. What a first time experience. They need to do a lot better on quality control. read more

Love this new spot in Kahala. Take out or dine in. Great food with excellent service. A lot of choices on the menu, you can order ramen, udon, delicious gyoza or numerous curry plates. I heard this ramen was Sapporo style ramen. Wow, as a person who lived in Hokkaido I was excited. But sadly the noodles were very over cooked and when I lifted them for the first anticipated slurp...it broke apart like mush. Ramen is not supposed to be cooked that way. So I figured rookie cook got the time wrong or just doesn't know. But my ramen broth tasted like a hint of Won Ton Min type broth. My son and wife's ramen noodles were over cooked too. I guess we expected Nihon ramen, rather than expensive Saimin. What a waste of what looked like good noodles. Honto na Sapporo ramen ja nai! I'll take instant Ichiran or Sapporo ramen...sorry Daiichi, go to Manichi Ramen on Kona Street and learn from them. read more

I ordered the tan tan, gyoza, fried rice combo. The service was incredibly fast and hot and ready to eat. Overall, pretty solid ramen. This is not the top-tier ramen, but more of a local Hawaii-style curry house ramen. A place where you can get good food fast and ready without breaking your bank account. Yes, there are places with better ramen but the quality here, combined with the affordable price and VERY quick service, is top notch. They sat us, party of 6, right away. Waters hit the table almost immediately. They took our order and the food came out so quickly I was impressed. The quality of the food for how cheap it is, is amazing. Highlights of the meal were the chicken katsu and Black Garlic Ramen. We all ate and all got very full, while thoroughly enjoying the flavor of the food. very good food. ordered the combo black garlic ramen and gyoza. the gyoza was perfectly fried, and the ramen broth was rich and the noodles were nicely springly. it seems that they take a lot of pride in the homemade broth, based on the many posters around the place, and it lives up to the hype. good portions and all at a readonable price! ambiance: perfect honestly. went on a friday evening and it wasn't too crowded or totally empty. i noticed there was classical music playing and it made me feel very relaxed and kept the place classy. the decor is cute and minimalist with obvious asian influence. everything was very clean and neat and well put-together. i noticed that the plates and bowls have the logo on them (pictured) cute touch. my only criticisms: the menu provided upon seating did not include drinks/desert options. They're open for dine in and takeout during covid. My husband and I shared the calamari curry and tantan ramen for lunch the other day.
