We never stray far from our usual choices either. The tempura platter is fresh and crispy and delicious-- my favorite! The GOZEN, even with the price hike, is a good deal. The Yelpers have spoken! And they're right... this is a great find in our Moiliili neighborhood. No frills. Just delicious Japanese food at affordable prices. One woman runs the entire dining room, so don't take offense if she turns walk-ins away. She's literally server, food runner, busser, and manager in one. Parking is in the driveway prior to entering the restaurant. The stalls reserved for Hana no Sato are the half dozen stalls closest to the entrance. Ample menu selection of curry, ramen, gyoza, tempura, chirashi, and sushi. The broiled salmon was perfectly prepared with a side of miso soup, two-piece gyoza, mac salad, hard boiled egg, and pickled vegetable for $13. Tempura was well battered with a soy drizzle. Chirashi bowl was freshly made with assorted seafood. For dessert, order the Anmitsu- an assortment of all the desserts combined- coffee jelly, matcha shiratama, warabimochi, and whipped cream. Growing up surrounded by all these familiarity and not the localized version of Japanese cuisine this was quite comforting and know why this place has been around while others surrounding this Moili'ili area came and gone. Hana no Sato is a cozy spot right on S King Street just before the Elementary School which is close to a busy traffic area but with lots of street metered parking it's very accessible. Dining area is quite small with many filled with regulars I understand you're able to make reservations to secure a spot is nice and great when it's important. Came here to have dinner with Terry who already has been here a few times is nice knowing that she has an idea what I'd like and gosh she sure didn't disappoint at all. Though they do have teishoku menu items many are ala carte style which is nice and shareable though I must warn you that it's quite a generous portion and the service is really fast so I'd suggest to order a few and add on as you go. We did start with Agedashi Tofu (yummy and perfect!), Chicken Karaage (Crispy and flavorful) came with a small salad, Fried Salmon (Probably my favorite) cooked crispy and seasoned to perfection, Small Sashimi Platter (Fresh and beautiful) and a couple of small sushi rolls (natto and ume cucumber). I had a wonderful experience here. I had passed by this restaurant many times and noticed it was always busy, so today I decided to stop by with my son. My kids get very hungry right after school, and our food expenses had been adding up and becoming stressful. This place was very affordable and truly helpful for us. It has a casual, comforting feel--just like a traditional Japanese set-meal restaurant. I was a bit unsure about the $9 ramen, but it turned out to be quite good, and my son was very happy with it. I ordered the goya champuru for $10, and it was delicious as well. The Japanese staff seemed very busy, but they were all kind and pleasant, which made the experience even better. The restaurant's atmosphere is relaxed and casual with fun Japanese decor and pictures of the menu posted around. Gives off your neighborhood Japanese spot vibes. Seating-wise, there's a decent amount for pairs, families, or larger parties. We had a bigger group, so lots of coordination was done, which we appreciated! Recommend calling in advance if you have a bigger party. We found the service to be so kind and efficient. With a large group, they did a wonderful job managing our seating, orders, requests, and so forth. Thank you to everyone for my meal and the wonderful company! The Takoyaki was yummy and I enjoyed the Grilled Mackerel Gozen. There was so much food in the gozen, I was so stuffed and needed a takeout box. Prices are super reasonable, but with how busy they're getting, that might not last forever. They don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own. Really homey, local, Japanese food at a great price. We tried to drop in on a Friday night and the restaurant was completely full. We didn't have a reservation, but we were told we could come back in around 20 mins to get a table! I would definitely recommend making a reservation since the restaurant is quite small and is popular :). When we came back we were immediately seated and the lady running the restaurant took our order pretty quickly. We ordered the chicken karaage, ahi poke bowl, gyoza and agedashi tofu. Both entrees also came with miso soup. My favorites from what we ordered were the agedashi tofu and the fresh poke. I could tell the ahi was really fresh on my poke bowl! Having a back story on how we find a place as this, is always an adventure. Some older friends were eating at local place, and a group on the next table were looking at the dish the waitress brought (off menu) and interests arose, then talk story happened ; ) . Wow! It was a very busy night! The restaurant was packed (3 large parties) and only one server. I think because it was so busy, it was very noisy. She's was very nice and pleasant and certainly did her best to accommodate everyone The food was reasonably priced and ok. The chirashi bowl was only $19 but my husband thought, not enough fish. Maybe next time get the platter. The tempura platter was ok, but next time get just the shrimp tempura and I thought the Mabo tofu ramen was too oily so next time get a different ramen. If the lady hadn't been so nice I probably wouldn't consider trying again. We found parking in the street, but they say there's 8 stalls in the back. Dinner, including trip was $60 for 2 of us I'd give them another try. read more

I am not a long time customer like some reviewers, but I am becoming a fan. I came across it somewhat by accident; we have a PO box at the Moiliili post office for a little while, so we keep seeing this banner for $9 ramen when we go to get our mails and one day I asked my wife "can we go eat there?"; and now I am hooked! Everything is good there! I love Japanese food, and their food is so good. I have not been to Japan yet but the wife said it's pretty close. I will take that as a Yes! I have a good number of items on the menu; my favorites are Grilled saba, Champuru ( pork stirred fried with bitter melon), tonkatsu curry, assorted tempura, etc. My wife loves their shabu salad. I can go on and on, but everything is great! The place is small but the service is so friendly and warm. There is a small shared parking lot in the back, and there are some metered parking spots nearby. Tried this place because we were celebrating a couple birthdays. Although the place is small, they were able to accommodate all 12 of us. A friend made a reservation in advanced. There's plenty of street parking out front during weekday lunches, and they have a few spaces in the lot behind. Bathrooms are located outside via key. The menu had a great variety and I appreciated the pictures on the wall that depicted the menu items. The downside for me at least - was the wait. I was one of the last people to receive my food. We were there for almost two hours. I received my food maybe the last fifteen minutes of our time there. Our group was one of the first ones there for lunch, but it seemed like most groups got their food first and most of our table. I ordered Mapo Tofu with rice. Three co-workers and I went to Hana no Sato on the Makai side of King Street, a little past University Avenue. It's a small space and their food is highly regarded. We each had the Hana no Sato Gozen, which is their take on a teishoku meal ... You choose one main dish from the bento section and your meal includes miso soup, a green salad, a platter of four side dishes (mac salad, two gyoza, 1/2 soft boiled egg, tsukemono, chawan-mushi, two shrimp tempura and two pieces of mochi for dessert. It's a LOT of food and a "steal" at $17.50. Three of us ordered the ginger pork while our fourth opted for chicken karaage. The main dish costs $13 with just rice and miso soup so for $4.50 more you get so much more. The food is well prepared and seasoned appropriately ... I really enjoyed my meal and was so stuffed that I passed on dinner. I believe that the Gozen meal is limited in quantity so early diners are rewarded. Highly recommended! read more
