I had a wonderful experience here. I had passed by this restaurant many times and noticed it was always busy, so today I decided to stop by with my son. My kids get very hungry right after school, and our food expenses had been adding up and becoming stressful. This place was very affordable and truly helpful for us. It has a casual, comforting feel--just like a traditional Japanese set-meal restaurant. I was a bit unsure about the $9 ramen, but it turned out to be quite good, and my son was very happy with it. I ordered the goya champuru for $10, and it was delicious as well. The Japanese staff seemed very busy, but they were all kind and pleasant, which made the experience even better. I am not a long time customer like some reviewers, but I am becoming a fan. I came across it somewhat by accident; we have a PO box at the Moiliili post office for a little while, so we keep seeing this banner for $9 ramen when we go to get our mails and one day I asked my wife "can we go eat there?"; and now I am hooked! Everything is good there! I love Japanese food, and their food is so good. I have not been to Japan yet but the wife said it's pretty close. I will take that as a Yes! I have a good number of items on the menu; my favorites are Grilled saba, Champuru ( pork stirred fried with bitter melon), tonkatsu curry, assorted tempura, etc. My wife loves their shabu salad. I can go on and on, but everything is great! The place is small but the service is so friendly and warm. There is a small shared parking lot in the back, and there are some metered parking spots nearby. What a cozy little Japanese food gem! I used to live right down the street and never knew Hana no Sato was here. So to my surprise, when Li Y., brought us here--I was in for a treat! The restaurant's atmosphere is relaxed and casual with fun Japanese decor and pictures of the menu posted around. Gives off your neighborhood Japanese spot vibes. Seating-wise, there's a decent amount for pairs, families, or larger parties. We had a bigger group, so lots of coordination was done, which we appreciated! Recommend calling in advance if you have a bigger party. We found the service to be so kind and efficient. With a large group, they did a wonderful job managing our seating, orders, requests, and so forth. Thank you to everyone for my meal and the wonderful company! The Takoyaki was yummy and I enjoyed the Grilled Mackerel Gozen. There was so much food in the gozen, I was so stuffed and needed a takeout box. I rarely get saba shioyaki so it was a nice change, I loved how rich, smoky, and slightly salty it was. I also enjoyed the other sides like the chawanmushi! Everything tasted good and it was nice to have a variety. I'd recommend the gozen to all! Hana no Sato was a superb destination of choice. Nothing fancy--just solid, tasty Japanese home cooking. The kind of meal you'd get from your grandma, not a celebrity chef. Super warm friendly service too. Chill vibe with about 10 tables,. I've been a couple of times lately and really liked the Saba and Shio Ramen. For a small spot, the menu's got a lot going on--ramen, udon, curry, bentos, all the usual suspects and more. Prices are super reasonable, but with how busy they're getting, that might not last forever. They don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own. I love this place! Been coming here for years and it never disappoints. We'll only when it's too crowded lol One of the best grilled Salmon bentos/teishoku I have had and you can't beat their prices for Japanese food. Great place for a Yelp get together! I had the saba bento which was delicious. It came with rice, miso soup or salad, macaroni salad, gobo and carrots, tsukemono, half a boiled egg and two gyoza. Really homey, local, Japanese food at a great price. We tried to drop in on a Friday night and the restaurant was completely full. We didn't have a reservation, but we were told we could come back in around 20 mins to get a table! I would definitely recommend making a reservation since the restaurant is quite small and is popular :). When we came back we were immediately seated and the lady running the restaurant took our order pretty quickly. We ordered the chicken karaage, ahi poke bowl, gyoza and agedashi tofu. Both entrees also came with miso soup. My favorites from what we ordered were the agedashi tofu and the fresh poke. I could tell the ahi was really fresh on my poke bowl! Having a craving for some good ole comfort Japanese or Okinawan food. Stopped by here after suggestions from multiple persons. Now stop by regularly whenever I am getting that craving. Love this casual, neighborhood restaurant. Come as you are. Have tried many of the dishes here. Usually gravitate to the goya champuru. Sometimes some takoyaki or grilled fish. Almost always get the complete gozen set. Service always friendly and efficient. Parking is easier on weekends or evenings (Saturday and Sunday) when the meters are free and right infront of the restaurant. There is also a parking lot with entrance BEFORE the restaurant. Wow! It was a very busy night! The restaurant was packed (3 large parties) and only one server. I think because it was so busy, it was very noisy. She's was very nice and pleasant and certainly did her best to accommodate everyone The food was reasonably priced and ok. The chirashi bowl was only $19 but my husband thought, not enough fish. Maybe next time get the platter. The tempura platter was ok, but next time get just the shrimp tempura and I thought the Mabo tofu ramen was too oily so next time get a different ramen. If the lady hadn't been so nice I probably wouldn't consider trying again. We found parking in the street, but they say there's 8 stalls in the back. Sunday, lunch... found street parking... Took mom to Hana No Sato. Moms 1st time there... Told her this is where the salmon bento came from. So, she looked over the menu... Wonderful little place serving homestyle Japanese food! Portions are just right, food is delicious, pricing is reasonable. Parking can be difficult (this time we SCORED with street parking right in front), but it's worth the struggle. It's a small eatery, so reservations are a good idea. This place honestly makes the best shab shab salad. They have been open for years and were quite busy today. Because of this, they were a bit louder than I would have liked. Tried this place because we were celebrating a couple birthdays. Although the place is small, they were able to accommodate all 12 of us. A friend made a reservation in advanced. There's plenty of street parking out front during weekday lunches, and they have a few spaces in the lot behind. Bathrooms are located outside via key. The menu had a great variety and I appreciated the pictures on the wall that depicted the menu items. The downside for me at least - was the wait. I was one of the last people to receive my food. We were there for almost two hours. I received my food maybe the last fifteen minutes of our time there. Our group was one of the first ones there for lunch, but it seemed like most groups got their food first and most of our table. I ordered Mapo Tofu with rice. Three co-workers and I went to Hana no Sato on the Makai side of King Street, a little past University Avenue. It's a small space and their food is highly regarded. We each had the Hana no Sato Gozen, which is their take on a teishoku meal ... You choose one main dish from the bento section and your meal includes miso soup, a green salad, a platter of four side dishes (mac salad, two gyoza, 1/2 soft boiled egg, tsukemono, chawan-mushi, two shrimp tempura and two pieces of mochi for dessert. It's a LOT of food and a "steal" at $17.50. Three of us ordered the ginger pork while our fourth opted for chicken karaage. The main dish costs $13 with just rice and miso soup so for $4.50 more you get so much more. The food is well prepared and seasoned appropriately ... I really enjoyed my meal and was so stuffed that I passed on dinner. I believe that the Gozen meal is limited in quantity so early diners are rewarded. Highly recommended! read more

This friendly and fast service little café has pretty reasonably priced Japanese food by Oahu standards. The hamachi sashimi was excellent, 5 good slices of extremely fresh fish, with equally fresh daikon and ogo for $11. The scallop was not quite as good a deal - sweet and fresh but for $12, the 5 small see-through slices were somewhat disappointing. Takoyaki was just ok, not much octopus to be found. Shoyu ramen had a pretty classic broth, though the mini curry you can add for $3 outshone the ramen - we might return for this and perhaps try the tonkatsu curry. Finally, the fried rice bento had pretty good fried rice but the rest of the bits were forgettable and I prefer gyozas pan fried over deep fried. All in, I would neither rush back nor avoid it. I suspect we'll eat here again and try some other items. $75 for family of 4. read more

I love a restaurant that makes food taste especially home cooked and warm for the soul. The food is simple and classic and also importantly affordable and you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I got the pork cutlet bento with miso soup ($13) this time and Takoyaki ($6) as an appetizer. The Takoyaki was hot and crispy and I love to watch the bonito flakes dance in the steam, and the portion of octopus in there was very nice too. The pork cutlet had a perfect crust, yummy sauce, and way more little side items than I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise, so every bite of my meal was a little combination of different things every time. The miso soup was also good! Service is very friendly and courteous and I believe my waitress was the owner, I see her often and it's always a pleasant experience. I can imagine many college students coming down here from UH to get some comfort food that isn't too heavy on the stomach. In total, my bill only came out to like $20 before tip. Ordered the aburi shimesaba appetizer and inari. It was really good. One fillet of saba was served at room temperature with lemon, grated ginger and green onions. I can't find this anywhere else in Hawaii, I usually just see grilled saba which can be a little dry. Or sometimes there's saba sushi at certain restaurants but I find it over cooked in Hawaii. This one was seared on top and lightly cooked, perfect in my opinion! There are 8 free parking stalls in the back, I believe it's shared amongst other restaurants / businesses on this block. Parking signage is there, just turn in before Dagon Restaurant. One way in and out. Metered street parking is also available. Came here for lunch as I prepare to depart Hawaii for the long term. Today's special was an excellent steak plate so we immediately ordered that, we also ordered Yaki udon and some Natto maki. The steak came with a ponzu-oroshi dipping sauce. The steak was tender and flavorful and was great with our noodle plate. The yakiudon was flavored with katsuobushi and pork. I came in by myself for a little solo lunch and I'm so glad that I stumbled into Hana no Sato- there was even another person eating alone which made me feel more comfortable. I was looking for a relatively cheap and fast meal between meetings and Hana no Sato delivered on those bases. I was drawn in with their $9 ramen advertisement outside but I actually ended up getting their eggplant mapo tofu which came with rice and miso soup- and I also added their house salad. The food came out quickly and reminded me of fast-casual spots in Japan. The eggplant mapo had a bit of a curry base with ground meat and fried eggplant on top. It was really homey and filling, not spicy at all. My only complaint is that the rice was a bit dry and I'm guessing wasn't very fresh. The salad and miso soup was simple and the perfect addition to my more heavy mapo main dish. With prices, and laid-back atmosphere- I can see this spot being very popular for University students and staff! read more

We stopped by near 8pm when they close, and they happily sat us at a clean table. We were served within minutes after the order. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and well cooked. The waitress was very pleasant and polite, checking in on us several times. Their menu is affordable for Japanese food. My friend ordered Hana no Sato Gozen set that included miso soup, rice, gobo, daikon, potato salad, tossed salad, fried chicken, steamed egg, tempura, 1/2 boiled egg, rice, and mochi for dessert.
